Scapia Federal Credit Card Review: Zero Forex, Coins Only for Travel
The Scapia Federal Credit Card, issued by Federal Bank with the travel app Scapia, has no joining or annual fee and a 0% forex mark-up. Visa spends earn 10% back in Scapia Coins and travel booked on the Scapia app 20%, but at 5 coins to ₹1 that is about ₹2 and ₹4 per ₹100, usable only on Scapia bookings. The charges in this review come from Federal Bank's November 2024 MITC, so check the current MITC before you apply.

What the Scapia Federal card is
Scapia is a travel booking app, and this is its co-branded credit card issued by Federal Bank. It arrived in June 2023 on Visa, with no joining fee, zero forex mark-up and rewards paid as Scapia Coins. Since 12 June 2025 it also come as a RuPay card, so you get a Visa card and a RuPay card on one limit and one statement, and the RuPay one can be linked to UPI.
The headline numbers need a translation. "10% rewards" on Visa spends sound huge, but rewards are converted into coins on the statement date and 5 coins are worth ₹1. So 10% is about ₹2 back per ₹100, and 20% on travel booked in the Scapia app is about ₹4 per ₹100. Coins can be spent only on bookings in that app.
What matters most
- No fee, no forex mark-up. Nil joining and annual fee with no spend condition, and 0% on foreign currency spends, per Federal's November 2024 MITC.
- Coins tied to one app. You use coins for flights, stays, buses, trains, visas and experiences on Scapia, up to the full booking value as Scapia says. No travel, no value.
- A ₹20,000 spend door for lounges. Domestic lounge access, or the airport dining, shopping and spa option, open only after ₹20,000 of spend in a billing cycle.
A word on the documents
Federal Bank's current MITC and Key Fact Statement, version 11 dated 30 April 2026, and its own Scapia page were behind a bot check and could not be read. The fees and charges in this review comes from the November 2024 MITC that Scapia hosts, and the rewards from the cardholder agreement last updated on 27 February 2026. Please read the current MITC in the app before you apply, since any change in it is unknown to us. We also found no insurance cover in any document we read.
Status and changes
The card is active. Airport Privileges came in the 2024 Monsoon Release at 72 airports, the RuPay card on 12 June 2025 and add-on cards, up to three, on 5 November 2025. The February 2026 agreement brought 1% fees on rent and on large utility and fuel spends, and it took insurance, utility, telecom and cable out of rewards. Scapia now has three issuing partners, Federal Bank, BOBCARD and, since 3 September 2026, Axis Bank; this review covers only the Federal Bank card.
Fees and charges, from the November 2024 MITC
Everything in this tab comes from Federal Bank's November 2024 MITC unless said otherwise. A newer version exists, dated 30 April 2026, so treat each figure as something to confirm, not a final word.
Membership fee and add-ons
Joining fee nil, annual membership fee nil, and no spend condition for either. That is a real lifetime-free card, not a waiver you have to earn. Add-on cards, up to 3, arrived in November 2025. Scapia says they come at no extra cost, but no Federal Bank document we read state the add-on fee, so ask before you add family members.
GST applies on fees, interest and charges. The MITC says it is CGST plus SGST when your communication address is in Kerala and IGST elsewhere, and the rate on card charges is 18%.
Interest, minimum due and a worked example
Revolving credit costs 3.75% a month, 45% a year, from the transaction date. The interest-free period is up to 48 days, with the due date up to 18 days after the billing date. The minimum amount due is 5% of the total due, at least ₹200, plus EMIs, GST, charges, interest and fees.
The MITC's own example show how quickly it adds up. On a ₹10,000 bill with ₹7,500 paid late, interest is ₹357.53 on ₹10,000 for 29 days, ₹6.16 on ₹2,500 for 2 days and ₹24.66 on a new ₹4,000 purchase for 5 days. Add a ₹600 late fee and ₹177.90 of GST and the total charges are ₹1,166.26. Once a balance is carried, new purchases lose the interest-free period too.
Late fee slabs
| Statement balance | Late fee |
|---|---|
| Less than ₹100 | Nil |
| ₹100 to ₹500 | ₹100 |
| ₹501 to ₹5,000 | ₹500 |
| ₹5,001 to ₹10,000 | ₹600 |
| ₹10,001 to ₹25,000 | ₹750 |
| ₹25,001 to ₹50,000 | ₹950 |
| More than ₹50,000 | ₹1,000 |
Cash, forex and fuel
- Cash withdrawal: 2.5% of the amount or ₹500, whichever is higher, plus 3.75% a month interest from the day of withdrawal with no interest-free period. Cash limit is up to 10% of your card limit. A ₹10,000 withdrawal costs ₹500, because 2.5% would be only ₹250.
- Forex mark-up: 0%. Spending ₹1,00,000 abroad on a card with a 3.5% mark-up would add ₹3,500 (3.5% of ₹1,00,000) plus GST; here it adds nothing.
- Fuel: 1% surcharge waiver on transactions up to ₹5,000, maximum ₹500 a month, and fuel earns no coins.
- Over-limit 2.5% of the excess, minimum ₹500. Card reissue ₹200 plus GST. A dishonoured auto debit costs 2% of the payment, minimum ₹450.
- EMI conversion: 16% a year, ₹99 plus GST processing, and 2% plus GST to foreclose, minimum ₹100.
Convenience fees on rent, bills, fuel and wallets
The February 2026 agreement charges 1% plus GST on rent, capped at ₹3,000 a transaction before GST. Paying ₹25,000 of rent by card therefore costs ₹250 plus ₹45 GST, ₹295 in all (1% of ₹25,000, then 18% of ₹250). Utility, telecom and cable spends over ₹50,000 in a billing cycle, add-on spends included, draw 1% capped at ₹3,000 a transaction, and so does fuel over ₹50,000 a cycle.
Two points the documents doesn't settle. The November 2024 MITC charges 1% plus GST on wallet loads, up to ₹3,000 a transaction, but the February 2026 agreement lists fees only on rent, utilities and fuel. And for utilities the MITC says over ₹50,000 "in a month" while the agreement says "in a billing cycle". The current MITC would settle both, check it.

Scapia Coins: earning, value and limits
| How you pay | Reward rate | Value at 5 coins = ₹1 |
|---|---|---|
| Travel booked on the Scapia app | 20% as coins | About ₹4 per ₹100 |
| Visa card, purchases of ₹20 and above | 10% as coins | About ₹2 per ₹100 |
| RuPay card including UPI, eligible spends above ₹500 | 5% as coins | About ₹1 per ₹100 |
| Visa purchases below ₹20, excluded categories | Nil | Nil |
No cap is stated on any of these rates. Rewards gets turned into coins 1:1 on the statement date, and coins are used on the Scapia app for flights, hotels and stays, buses and other services, at 5 coins for ₹1. No redemption fee is stated in the documents read.
Where the documents disagree
- RuPay minimum: the agreement says rewards come on spends of more than ₹500, while a Scapia blog says ₹500 or more. A payment of exactly ₹500 may or may not count.
- Utility coins: the agreement excludes utility, telecom and cable spends entirely, but the Scapia blog lists only utility and telecom bills above ₹20,000 a month as ineligible. We follow the agreement in our sums and count nothing.
What earns nothing
The exclusion list is long: money transfers, rent, cash withdrawals, EMI transactions, education and school fees, gift cards, card repayments, crypto, fuel and fuel surcharge, wallet loads, insurance, utility, telecom and cable, government services (MCC 9099 to 9999), some business services (MCC 7399, 7311, 7372, 7538, 7392) and financial institutions (MCC 6051, 6012, 6011). It also names "forex transactions" without defining them, so check in the app whether a card spend abroad earn coins before you count on it.
Expiry and other rules
Coins have a 36 months validity. They are nullified if the card is not used for more than 365 days and lost when you close the card. Scapia sets the coin value and can change it with one month's notice. The issuer documents carry no welcome or milestone benefit; offers inside the Scapia app vary from time to time.
Light user: ₹15,000 a month on Visa
| Monthly spend | Working | Coins |
|---|---|---|
| ₹11,000 shopping, dining and groceries | 10% of 11,000 | 1,100 |
| ₹2,500 electricity and mobile bills | Excluded | 0 |
| ₹1,500 fuel | Excluded | 0 |
| One year | 1,100 x 12 | 13,200 |
| Rupee value | 13,200 ÷ 5 | ₹2,640 |
With no fee to pay, the ₹2,640 is all gain, but only once you book travel worth that on Scapia. Spend stays below ₹20,000 a cycle, so lounges stay closed for this person.
Typical user: ₹40,000 a month with a few trips
| Monthly spend | Working | Coins |
|---|---|---|
| ₹20,000 on Visa: shopping, dining, groceries | 10% of 20,000 | 2,000 |
| ₹5,000 travel on the Scapia app (₹60,000 a year) | 20% of 5,000 | 1,000 |
| ₹6,000 UPI payments above ₹500 | 5% of 6,000 | 300 |
| ₹2,000 small UPI payments under ₹500 | Below minimum | 0 |
| ₹4,000 bills and insurance, ₹3,000 fuel | Excluded | 0 |
| One year | (2,000 + 1,000 + 300) x 12 | 39,600 |
| Rupee value | 39,600 ÷ 5 | ₹7,920 |
The fuel surcharge waiver adds ₹30 a month on ₹3,000 of fills (1% of ₹3,000), so ₹360 a year (₹30 x 12), for a total near ₹8,280 (₹7,920 + ₹360). Visa spend alone is ₹25,000 a cycle (₹20,000 + ₹5,000), so the lounge condition is met whichever reading of the combine rule is right.
Heavy user: ₹1,00,000 a month, rent on the card
| Monthly spend | Working | Coins |
|---|---|---|
| ₹50,000 on Visa | 10% of 50,000 | 5,000 |
| ₹15,000 travel on the Scapia app (₹15,000 x 12 = ₹1,80,000 a year) | 20% of 15,000 | 3,000 |
| ₹15,000 UPI above ₹500 | 5% of 15,000 | 750 |
| ₹15,000 rent | Excluded, fee ₹150 + ₹27 GST | 0 |
| ₹5,000 bills and insurance | Excluded | 0 |
| One year | (5,000 + 3,000 + 750) x 12 | 1,05,000 |
| Rupee value | 1,05,000 ÷ 5 | ₹21,000 |
| Less rent fees | ₹177 x 12 = ₹2,124 | ₹18,876 |
Putting rent on this card cost ₹2,124 a year and earn no coins, so the heavy user is better paying rent another way and keeping the ₹21,000. If one of their Scapia bookings is an international flight of ₹40,000 (homepage) or ₹50,000 (May 2026 blog), they also get up to ₹2,000 back in coins at an international terminal in India. Spending ₹1,50,000 abroad saves ₹5,250 against a 3.5% mark-up card (3.5% of ₹1,50,000), though we count no coins on it given the forex exclusion.
Scapia Federal: higher-reward categories

Eligibility and how to apply
We couldn't find the primary applicant's age, income or residence rules on any Federal Bank or Scapia page that we could read, and Federal Bank's own card page was blocked by a bot check. So we don't state criteria here and we don't guess them. Same for documents, no readable page lists them.
What is clear is the route. Federal Bank's co-brand cards that we read are applied for only through the partner's app, so for this card you apply on the Scapia app. Add-on cards, up to 3, can go to family members above 18: spouse, brothers, sisters, parents and parents-in-law, and Scapia also mention children aged 18 and above.
What the bank must do
Federal Bank is the issuer and makes the credit decision; Scapia only markets and services the card. Under the RBI's 2025 card Directions the bank has to assess your credit risk on your own independent means, set the limit after counting all limits you hold elsewhere, give you a one-page Key Fact Statement, and put any rejection reasons in writing. The same rules say a co-brand partner cannot see your transaction data, and the issuer is liable for delivering advertised rewards on time.
For an app-only journey, KYC is the main hurdle to cross over. RBI's KYC rules let banks verify you by Video KYC, treated the same as meeting in person, and an account opened with only an Aadhaar OTP e-KYC can be used for term loans up to ₹60,000 a year, not for a revolving card. So expect a Video KYC call, or a full KYC, as part of the process.
Credit score and support
Experian India scores run from 300 to 900, and above 750 is generally seen as good; CRIF puts its good mark above 700. Neither bureau's guide means approval, the decision stay with Federal Bank. The November 2024 MITC gives the Scapia Federal helpline as 1800-296-1199.

Who should get Scapia Federal
This card is best for a person who already travel a few times a year and doesn't mind booking through one app. For them the maths are easy: no fee, about ₹2 per ₹100 on Visa spends, about ₹4 on Scapia bookings, 0% forex abroad and lounge access once a cycle crosses ₹20,000. Our typical user ends up with close to ₹8,280 a year in travel value for paying nothing.
It's not for people who want money back on the statement. Coins only buy Scapia bookings, they lapse if you stop using the card for over 365 days, and Scapia can change their value with a month's notice. Families who put rent, insurance and bills on a card will also see very much less coins than expected, since all of those earn nothing.
The trade-offs
The upside is simple and rare: a lifetime-free card with zero forex and an earn rate that beats most no-fee cards, if you travel. The downside is uncertainty. Scapia's pages disagree with each other on whether Visa and RuPay spends combine for the ₹20,000 lounge condition: the homepage says combined, the February 2026 agreement says spends on one variant can't be combined with the other. They also differ on ₹40,000 or ₹50,000 for the international airport benefit and on whether utility bills earn coins.
Add to that charges taken from an MITC of November 2024. None of this are a reason to avoid the card, but read the current MITC, and to be safe, put ₹20,000 a cycle on one variant.
Pros
- Nil joining and annual fee with no spend condition
- 0% forex mark-up on foreign currency spends
- 10% in Scapia Coins on Visa spends of ₹20 and above, about ₹2 per ₹100
- 20% in coins on travel booked on the Scapia app, about ₹4 per ₹100, with no cap stated
- Domestic lounge access, or airport dining, shopping and spa credits, after ₹20,000 of spend in a billing cycle

Cons
- Coins can be used only for bookings on the Scapia app, at 5 coins to ₹1
- Under the cardholder agreement, no coins on rent, fuel, insurance, utility, telecom, wallet loads or education fees
- Coins lapse if the card is unused for more than 365 days, and Scapia can change their value with one month's notice
- Charges here come from the November 2024 MITC; the current April 2026 MITC could not be read
- No published eligibility, document list or insurance cover
Similar no-fee and low-forex travel cards
Few cards match a 0% mark-up with no fee, so we are comparing it with one card who does and two that come close.
IDFC FIRST Select
The IDFC FIRST Select is also lifetime free, and its forex mark-up went to zero on 9 September 2026. But since 26 October 2026 international spends earn no points, so abroad it saves the mark-up only. In India it earns 3 points per ₹200 at ₹0.25 a point, about 0.375%, and 10 per ₹200 on dining, travel and your birthday, about 1.25%. It gives 1 domestic airport lounge visit a quarter if you spend ₹20,000 in the previous month, and it asks for ₹12 lakh of yearly income. Add-ons cost ₹499 plus GST.
MakeMyTrip ICICI Bank
The MakeMyTrip ICICI card charges ₹999 plus GST, waived from the second year on ₹3,00,000 of spend. It earns myCash worth ₹1 each, 6% on MakeMyTrip hotels, 3% on flights, holidays, cabs and buses there, and 1% on domestic spends elsewhere. Its forex mark-up is 0.99% until 9 November 2026 and nil from 10 November 2026, when international spends outside MakeMyTrip also stop earning. Lounges are 2 domestic visits a quarter after ₹75,000 of quarterly spend and 1 international visit a year.
IndusInd Bank Tiger
The IndusInd Tiger has no joining or annual fee in IndusInd's MITC and gives 2 domestic lounge visits a quarter plus 2 Priority Pass visits a year with no published spend condition. Its points grows with the yearly spend, from 1 per ₹100 up to ₹1,00,000 to 6 per ₹100 beyond ₹5,00,000, at ₹0.40 each. The forex mark-up is 1.5%, so ₹1,00,000 abroad adds ₹1,500 (1.5% of ₹1,00,000) that Scapia would not charge.
Which to choose
Pick Scapia Federal if you will book on Scapia and want both zero forex and rewards that beat 1%. Pick FIRST Select if you are earning ₹12 lakh a year and want a bank-run card with wider redemption. MakeMyTrip suits people loyal to that app, and Tiger suits someone who values lounges without spend tests over forex savings.
