Customer Care Number — NBFC, Bank & Insurance Support Contacts
Verified customer care numbers, WhatsApp channels and grievance email IDs for India's major NBFCs and loan apps, banks and insurers — each checked against the company's own official contact or grievance page, not a directory listing. Below the tables: what support can actually resolve, the three-step escalation ladder that ends at the RBI Ombudsman, and exactly what to do in the first hour after a fraud.

Before you dial: the fake customer care number trap
Searching for a customer care number is itself one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance. Fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings, social media replies and comment sections — so the number you find may belong to a scammer rather than the company.
The script is consistent enough to recognise. You call the number, someone answers with the company's name, and within minutes you are asked to do one of four things: install a screen-sharing or "support" app, share an OTP "for verification", make a small "refund processing" payment, or confirm your card and CVV details. Every one of those requests is fraudulent. No bank, NBFC or insurer in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing session, and no legitimate refund requires you to pay first.
One current change is worth knowing because it cuts both ways. Under an RBI directive, Indian banks are migrating to exclusive .bank.in domains — SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara, Union Bank, IndusInd and IDFC FIRST have all moved, and several of their email addresses moved with them (customer.care@icici.bank.in, care@pnb.bank.in and cs.ho@bankofbaroda.bank.in, among others). The upside is that a verified .bank.in address is hard to spoof, so it is becoming a reliable authenticity signal. The risk during the transition is the mirror image: fraudsters are registering look-alike domains and counting on customers not knowing which address is genuine. If a message asks you to act on a domain you do not recognise, stop and reach the bank through the number in the table below or inside its app.
Three habits make you effectively immune. Get the number from the app or the official website — RBI's digital lending rules require every regulated lender to display customer care and grievance officer details inside the app itself, which is the one place a fraudster cannot edit. Never call a number from a search snippet you have not verified against the company's own domain. And never accept inbound help: if someone calls or messages claiming to be support, hang up and call the official number yourself. The tables on this page are published with the official source link beside each entity precisely so you can verify rather than trust.
What customer care can actually fix — and what it cannot
Calling the right number matters less than calling the right level. Front-line customer care is built for transactional problems and resolves them quickly: EMI debited twice, a payment not reflecting, a statement or interest certificate needed, a due date or auto-debit mandate change, KYC updates, a closure or no-dues certificate, foreclosure figures, or a card block after loss. For these, one call or one email with your account number usually settles it within a working day.
Front-line support is structurally unable to resolve a different class of problem: disputed charges the system shows as valid, a loan you say you never took, credit-bureau reporting errors, harassment by recovery agents, mis-selling, or a refusal you believe breaches regulation. Those need the Grievance Redressal Officer — a named official every RBI-regulated lender must appoint and publish — and, if they fail, the Ombudsman. Recognising which category your problem falls into saves weeks: repeating a structural complaint to front-line agents produces polite call-closure tickets and no resolution.
The three-step escalation ladder for banks and NBFCs
India's grievance system is a ladder, and each rung must be climbed before the next one opens. Skipping a rung is the most common reason complaints are returned unheard.
Step 1 — Customer care, in writing. Raise the issue on the official helpline, app or email, and insist on a complaint reference number. A phone call with no reference number did not happen as far as every later stage is concerned. Follow any call with an email restating the facts, so the timeline exists on paper. The clock that matters starts here.
Step 2 — The Grievance Redressal or Nodal Officer. If there is no resolution, escalate to the named GRO published on the lender's website and in its app, quoting the reference number, the dates and what you are asking for. The regulated entity has 30 days from your original complaint to resolve it.
Step 3 — The RBI Ombudsman. If 30 days pass without reply, or the reply does not satisfy you, file free of cost through the RBI's complaint management portal at cms.rbi.org.in, or via the contact centre listed in the helplines table below. The Integrated Ombudsman Scheme covers banks, NBFCs, credit information companies and payment system participants under one roof — no lawyer, no fee, and awards are binding on the regulated entity. Complaints already in court or beyond one year from the lender's reply fall outside it, which is another reason to start the paper trail early rather than after months of phone calls.
Insurance grievances run on a separate ladder
Insurance complaints do not go to the RBI. The path begins with the insurer's own Grievance Redressal Officer, whose details appear on every policy document and on the insurer's website — and the insurer is required to acknowledge and dispose of the grievance within defined timelines. If the response is unsatisfactory or absent, the complaint moves to IRDAI's Bima Bharosa grievance portal (the successor to IGMS), which registers and tracks the complaint against the insurer.
The third rung is the Insurance Ombudsman, a free forum with offices across India that hears policyholder disputes on claim repudiation, delays, premium and policy servicing, within monetary limits and time bars — typically one year from the insurer's final reply. Bring the policy document, the claim number, the insurer's written rejection and your correspondence trail; claim disputes turn on documentation more than argument. For health claims specifically, the hospital's discharge summary and the itemised final bill decide most cases, which is why keeping originals matters from the day of admission.
If you have been defrauded: the first hour matters most
Money moves through mule accounts within minutes, so recovery odds fall sharply with every hour. Work this order, in parallel rather than sequentially if someone can help you:
- Call 1930, the national cyber-crime helpline, and register the incident at cybercrime.gov.in. Early reporting is what allows the transaction chain to be frozen downstream.
- Tell your bank immediately using the verified number in the table below — report the unauthorised transaction, block the card or account access, and note the reference number. Under RBI's customer protection framework, reporting an unauthorised electronic transaction promptly — within three working days — limits your liability to zero for third-party breaches. Delay shifts loss onto you.
- Preserve evidence: screenshots of messages and calls, transaction IDs, UPI reference numbers, the number that called you, any app you were asked to install.
- Change credentials from a clean device — net banking, UPI PIN, email — and uninstall any remote-access or "support" app you were persuaded to install.
- Follow up in writing with the bank's grievance officer if the provisional credit or investigation stalls, and escalate to the RBI Ombudsman after 30 days.
One caution that saves second losses: after a fraud, victims are frequently targeted again by "recovery agents" who promise to retrieve the money for an advance fee. No genuine authority charges you to recover defrauded funds. Deal only with 1930, the cyber-crime portal and your bank's official channels.
Recovery-agent harassment and illegal loan apps
RBI's rules on recovery conduct are specific: agents may not call before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m., may not use threats, abuse, intimidation or public shaming, and may not contact people from your phonebook to embarrass you. Blanket access to your contacts and photo gallery is itself prohibited for digital lenders. If any of this is happening, you are dealing either with a regulated lender breaching its obligations — complain to its GRO, then the RBI Ombudsman, with call logs and screenshots attached — or with an entity outside the regulatory perimeter entirely.
For unregistered operators, report on the RBI's Sachet portal and to 1930 / cybercrime.gov.in. Two facts are worth knowing when the threats begin: a debt to an unregistered lender carries no credit-bureau consequence, and morphed images, contact-list shaming and threats are criminal offences regardless of whether you owe money. Warn your contacts that fabricated messages may reach them, keep every screenshot, and do not pay to make harassment stop — payment marks you as responsive and invites escalation. Our instant loan guides carry the full checklist for identifying a legitimate lender before you borrow.
Writing a complaint that actually gets resolved
Grievance teams process volume, so the complaints that move fastest are the ones that need no clarification. Include, in this order: your name and account or loan number; the date and reference number of the original complaint; a factual sequence of what happened with dates and amounts; what you are specifically asking for (reversal, correction, closure letter, bureau update); and attachments — statements, screenshots, the Key Fact Statement or policy document. Keep it to one page and leave adjectives out; a dated, specific narrative is far more effective than an angry one.
Two operational habits do the rest. Always follow a phone call with an email summarising it, so verbal assurances become written record. And keep every reference number in one place — the Ombudsman and the Insurance Ombudsman both begin by asking what you complained about, when, and what the entity said in reply. Households that keep that file resolve disputes in weeks; those that rely on memory and call histories usually do not resolve them at all.
NBFC & loan app customer care numbers
Support contacts for the NBFCs and lending apps covered on BankCreds, verified against each company's own contact or grievance page on 2026-09-13. Where a field shows "—", the company does not publish that channel publicly — use the official site link or the in-app support section instead of any number found elsewhere.
Bank customer care numbers
24x7 helplines, official WhatsApp banking numbers and grievance email IDs for India's major banks, verified from each bank's own customer-care page on 2026-09-13. For card loss or an unauthorised transaction, call first and email second — the call timestamps your report. Note that most of these banks have moved to .bank.in domains, and some email addresses changed with them; the addresses below are the current official ones, not the older .com versions still circulating elsewhere.
Insurance customer care numbers
Helplines and grievance contacts for major life, health and general insurers. For a hospitalisation, call the insurer or TPA helpline before admission where the treatment is planned — pre-authorisation is far smoother than a reimbursement claim assembled afterwards. Our health insurance guide covers the full claim process.
