Axio is what Capital Float became, and Walnut with it. The app on Google Play is listed as an income and expense tracker — it reads your transaction SMS and builds a spending picture — with credit products layered on top: a personal loan, Walnut Prime, and pay-later lines including Amazon Pay Later.
Behind it sits a genuine NBFC, CapFloat Financial Services Private Limited, and, since RBI cleared the deal in 2025, Amazon as owner. That makes Axio one of the better-capitalised lenders in this category. It also makes the gap between its app-store copy and its own published charges harder to excuse.
Axio Loan Reviews
The app holds 4.5 stars from about 2.64 lakh ratings with over 1 crore downloads, last updated 15 July 2026. Read that score carefully: most of it is about the free expense tracker, not the loan.
What users praise:
- Automatic SMS-based expense and bill tracking, with budgets and spending graphs — comfortably the most-praised feature.
- That it is free and needs no account linking.
- Amazon Pay Later and checkout EMI convenience for existing users.
What users complain about, in 2026 reviews:
- Transaction detection breaking — missed transactions, or the same transaction counted several times, with reports going unanswered.
- Balances not updating after a debit, with no way to correct them manually.
- Export and reporting features breaking after updates.
- Loan friction — one reviewer reported being unable to change a system-generated personal loan amount before disbursal.
- Disbursal delays, with repeated bank-statement requests and shifting promises.
- Limits cut after good behaviour — an Amazon Pay Later limit blocked after the customer prepaid and closed a personal loan.
No RBI penalty or enforcement action against either entity surfaced in this check, which is absence of evidence rather than a clean bill.
Axio Loan Safe or not?
Safe as a lender. Less safe as a source of accurate pricing, which is an odd thing to have to write about a company this size.
What checks out:
- The brand is the NBFC. CapFloat lends; Axio Digital runs the app as its service provider. No mystery counterparty.
- Amazon ownership, completed after RBI approval and reported in September 2025, which brings capital and scrutiny.
- A full legal library: schedule of charges, interest rate model policy, fair practices code, grievance redressal policy and a published GRO details document.
- Named officers at both the NBFC and the LSP, with an ombudsman route.
- Co-lending partners named openly: Karur Vysya Bank, Poonawalla Fincorp, Vivriti Capital, Aditya Birla Finance and South Indian Bank.
What to weigh against it:
- The app store understates the cost. Play says 14% to 35% a year, a processing fee "up to 2% (+GST)" and tenures of 6 to 36 months. The Schedule of Charges dated 2 July 2026 says 17.5% to 42%, up to 4% plus GST, and 6 to 48 months. Someone budgeting from the app-store copy would underestimate their loan.
- An unreconciled rate cap. The interest rate policy states personal-loan rates "were capped to 30% on the 11th of November 2024", while the same policy's product table and the current charges schedule still publish 42%.
- A restrictive prepayment regime. Locked until the 12th EMI, then a maximum of 20% of outstanding principal once every six months, with 4% plus GST to foreclose inside the first year.
- Penal charges accrue daily at 24% a year on the overdue amount for personal loans.
- Support routes into chat. The published policy says calling the helpline moves you to WhatsApp with live agents, which suits some people and frustrates others.
The rule that protects you everywhere: no genuine lender asks for an OTP, PIN or card details, and none asks you to pay a fee by UPI before disbursal. Axio deducts its processing fee from the loan. Anyone calling as "axio" and demanding an advance payment to release money is running a scam.

Axio Loan is RBI Registered or not?
Yes, through its own NBFC — and the structure here is cleaner than most.
- CapFloat Financial Services Private Limited is the RBI-registered NBFC and the lender of record, CIN U65993KA1993PTC074590.
- Axio Digital Private Limited, formerly Thumbworks Technologies, is a wholly owned subsidiary acting as the lending service provider and recovery agent. It is not itself a lender.
- Co-lenders may fund part of your loan: Karur Vysya Bank, Poonawalla Fincorp, Vivriti Capital, Aditya Birla Finance and South Indian Bank are named as partners.
- Amazon completed the acquisition of the business after RBI approval, reported in September 2025.
Axio does not publish its certificate of registration number on the pages we could read, so we record the registration as entity-level rather than number-verified.
Verify any lender yourself, in two minutes:
- Search "CapFloat Financial Services" in RBI's list of registered NBFCs on rbi.org.in.
- Look for the app in RBI's Digital Lending Apps directory under Citizen's Corner.
- Read the Key Fact Statement: it names your lender — which may be a co-lender — and carries the APR and every charge.
- Check who the recovery agent is. Here it is disclosed as Axio Digital, which is unusually transparent.
Interest rates, fees and the prepayment trap
From the Schedule of Charges dated 2 July 2026 — the document to trust:
| Product | Amount | Rate | Tenure | Processing fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal loan | ₹30,000 – ₹4,00,000 | 17.5% – 42% p.a. | 6 – 48 months | Up to 4% + GST |
| Walnut Prime | ₹10,000 – ₹5,00,000 | 14% – 36% p.a. | 3 – 36 months | Up to 2% + GST |
| Amazon Pay Later | Variable limit | 0% – 24% p.a. | — | 1% + GST |
| axio Pay Later | Variable limit | 0% – 24% p.a. | — | Up to 3% + GST |
| Xiaomi Easy Finance | Variable limit | — | — | Up to ₹599 |
Other charges that matter:
- Penal charges (personal loan): 24% a year, charged daily on the overdue principal. No separate late fee.
- Late fees (pay-later products): slabs — nothing on dues of ₹200 or less, then ₹125, ₹300, ₹350, ₹450, ₹800 and ₹1,000 as the due rises past ₹20,000.
- Foreclosure (personal loan): 4% of outstanding principal plus 18% GST on that charge, within the first 12 EMIs.
- Part-prepayment: barred until the 12th EMI, then capped at 20% of outstanding principal, once per six months.
- Walnut Prime foreclosure: nil.
- Documentation fee: up to ₹1,000 plus GST, and an SI dishonour charge of ₹800.
The prepayment rules deserve a second read. On an unsecured consumer loan, a 12-EMI lock-in plus a 20%-per-half-year cap is restrictive, and it is the single term most likely to surprise a borrower who comes into money and wants out. Work out what the loan costs to completion using our EMI calculator, and assume you will run it to term.
Eligibility, documents and disbursal
- Residency: Indian resident. No published city list; offices in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Pune.
- Documents: PAN (mandatory), Aadhaar, address proof, a selfie, and bank details for the e-NACH mandate.
- KYC: OTP-based eKYC, DigiLocker or CERSAI.
- Auto-debit: an e-NACH mandate is mandatory for most products.
- Disbursal: "within 10 minutes" is claimed; reviews describe longer waits with repeat document requests.
- Not published: minimum income, employment type and credit-score cut-offs.
Before you accept an Axio offer
- Price it from the Schedule of Charges, not the app-store description.
- Ask which rate applies to you and get it in writing — the band is 24.5 percentage points wide.
- Check the loan amount before disbursal; reviewers report system-generated amounts that cannot be edited.
- Confirm the foreclosure and part-prepayment terms for your specific product.
- Fund the EMI account a day early — penal charges here accrue daily, not as a one-off fee.
- Save the Key Fact Statement. It names your lender and binds the pricing.
How axio compares with the alternatives
axio sits between two worlds: a pay-later line you use at checkout, and a personal loan you draw as cash. They price very differently, and picking the wrong one is the most common mistake here.
- Against a credit card. A card charges nothing if you clear the statement in full, and about 36% to 42% a year if you revolve. axio's pay-later products run from 0% on merchant-subvented offers to 24% a year, with fees of 1% to 3%. For a purchase you will clear within a month, a card is usually cheaper; for one you want to spread over six months at a subvented 0%, axio can be cheaper.
- Against a bank personal loan. A salaried borrower with a good score can often get 11% to 16% from a bank. axio's personal loan starts at 17.5%. If a bank will lend to you, that gap over 36 months is substantial.
- Against other app lenders. axio's ceiling of 42% is high, but its floor is lower than most app-based competitors, and it does not charge the daily-rate penalties some of them do. Its penal charge accrues at 24% a year on the overdue amount rather than as a flat weekly fee.
- Against Walnut Prime, its own product. Walnut Prime carries no foreclosure charge and a lower fee cap. If you expect to repay early, ask whether you qualify for that instead of the personal loan.
The other thing worth planning for is a limit being cut. Several reviewers describe an Amazon Pay Later limit blocked after they prepaid and closed a personal loan — counter-intuitive, but common across lenders whose scoring reads early closure as reduced engagement. If your limit disappears, ask support in writing for the reason, check your credit report for an error, and do not open several new applications in quick succession: each one adds a hard enquiry and makes the next lender more cautious.
Verdict: should you take an Axio loan?
For an existing Amazon Pay Later or Walnut user with a clean record, Axio is a reasonable, well-backed option, and its disclosure library is better than most competitors — everything we have criticised here came from documents the company itself publishes.
Two things should shape your decision. First, budget from the 17.5% to 42% band in the schedule, not the softer numbers on the app store, and insist on your actual rate before accepting. Second, treat the loan as one you will run to term, because the prepayment lock-in and the 4% foreclosure charge make early exit expensive in the first year. If you want flexibility to repay early, Walnut Prime's nil foreclosure charge or a lender with free prepayment will serve you better — compare options in our loan app reviews.
