What the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC card is
This is HDFC Bank's co-brand card with Marriott Bonvoy, the hotel group's loyalty programme. It earns Marriott Bonvoy points instead of HDFC points, moves them to your Marriott account after each billing cycle, and its real draw is a set of Free Night Awards. The card is active and HDFC is taking applications. It costs ₹3,000 plus GST each year and, unusual for HDFC, there is no spend at which the fee go away.
It's meant for someone who already stays at Marriott properties for work or holidays and would actually use a free night. If you have never booked a Marriott hotel, most of what this card offer will go waste on you.
The parts that matter
- Free nights. One Free Night Award each anniversary after the renewal fee is levied, and up to three more for crossing ₹6 lakh, ₹9 lakh and ₹15 lakh of eligible spend in an anniversary year. Each award covers a standard room up to 15,000 points and lasts 12 months.
- Earn rates. 8 points per ₹150 at Marriott hotels charged directly and at Marriott retail stores, 4 per ₹150 on travel, dining and entertainment, 2 per ₹150 on most other things.
- Lounges. 12 visits a year in India and 12 outside, for primary and supplementary cardholders but not their guests.
The October 2026 change, and the gaps
From 1 October 2026, new primary cardmembers get the welcome Free Night Award, 10 Elite Night Credits and Silver Elite status only after the annual fee is levied. Before that, cardholders got them on a ₹500 transaction within 90 days or on the fee levy, whichever came first. HDFC don't name the card's network, and we found no insurance cover, so neither of them are a selling point.
Marriott Bonvoy HDFC card fees and charges
The joining fee and annual fee are ₹3,000 each with GST extra, so you pay ₹3,540 (₹3,000 plus 18%, or ₹540) every year you hold it. HDFC bills the first-year fee on the 45th day after issue, sooner than the 120th day it uses for most cards. The MITC shows NA against the waiver, so no spend target remove the fee.
What a normal spender gets for the fee
Since the fee can't be waived, the real question is whether the renewal Free Night Award is worth ₹3,540 to you. If a night at a Marriott you'd book anyway costs more than that, the card has paid for itself before you count a point; if you'd never book that hotel, it hasn't. The first milestone night needs ₹6 lakh a year, ₹50,000 a month (₹6,00,000 divided by 12), which is a lot for most salaried households but realistic for someone who put business travel on the card.
Add-on cards are free, and a supplementary cardholder also get the lounge visits, so an add-on for a spouse who travels with you is worth having.
Interest and default charges
Interest is 3.75% a month, 45% a year, plus GST. A ₹50,000 hotel bill carried for 20 days costs about ₹1,233 in interest (₹50,000 times 45% times 20, divided by 365), so pay in full. A late fee of up to ₹1,300 plus GST applies only when the minimum due is unpaid 3 days past the due date.
- Forex: 3.5% plus GST. A ₹1 lakh trip abroad costs ₹3,500 in markup plus ₹630 GST (18% of ₹3,500), ₹4,130 in all. Rupee payments to merchants abroad also carry 1.75% from 15 May 2026.
- Cash advance: 2.5% or ₹500, whichever is higher, with interest from the withdrawal date.
- Fuel: no surcharge waiver, no points, and 1% on any single fuel payment above ₹15,000.
- Rent 1% a transaction, capped at ₹4,999. Utilities above ₹50,000 a month, and wallet loads or gaming above ₹10,000 a month, each attract 1%.
- Railway tickets 1% plus GST; reissue ₹199; over-limit 2.5%, minimum ₹550, only with your consent.

Marriott Bonvoy points, free nights and three spending profiles
Points are counted per ₹150. Hotels in Marriott Bonvoy, charged directly, and Marriott-branded retail and online stores earn 8 points per ₹150 up to ₹10 lakh of such spend a month (Homes and Villas excluded). Travel, dining and entertainment, by the network's merchant codes, earn 4 per ₹150 up to ₹5 lakh a month, and every other eligible non-EMI spend earn 2 per ₹150. Above the monthly ceilings the rate falls back to 2.
Grocery earns 2 per ₹150 only up to ₹1.5 lakh a month (2,000 points), nothing above, while insurance premiums earn with no cap, which is rare on a HDFC card. EMI payments, online gaming, fuel, wallet and gift card loads, cash, rent and government payments earn zero.
What the points are worth
HDFC publishes no rupee value. Points move to your Marriott account after each billing cycle, which can take up to 12 weeks, and are redeemed under Marriott Bonvoy's rules. They don't expire as long as you earn or redeem once every 24 months. The best yardstick is the Free Night Award, a standard room up to 15,000 points. Earning 15,000 at the base rate takes ₹11,25,000 of spend (15,000 divided by 2, times ₹150), which shows why the anniversary and milestone nights matters more than the points.
The Anniversary Special Offer, running 1 October to 30 November 2026 for those who enrol by 10 November 2026, add 15,000 points on ₹1.5 lakh of spends or 30,000 on ₹2.5 lakh.
Three worked examples
Points are counted over a renewal year, next to the Free Night Awards each profile earns, against a ₹3,540 fee.
| Per month | Light | Typical | Heavy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marriott hotels (8 per ₹150) | Nil | ₹4,500: 240 points | ₹15,000: 800 points |
| Travel, dining, entertainment (4 per ₹150) | ₹9,000: 240 points | ₹21,000: 560 points | ₹45,000: 1,200 points |
| Grocery (2 per ₹150) | ₹6,000: 80 points | ₹9,000: 120 points | ₹15,000: 200 points |
| Other spends (2 per ₹150) | ₹15,000: 200 points | ₹25,500: 340 points | ₹60,000: 800 points |
| Points a year | 6,240 | 15,120 | 36,000 |
| Yearly spend | ₹3,60,000 | ₹7,20,000 | ₹16,20,000 |
| Free Night Awards | 1 (renewal) | 2 (renewal and ₹6 lakh) | 4 (renewal, ₹6, 9 and 15 lakh) |
Light, ₹30,000 a month. ₹9,000 of dining and travel gives 240 points (₹9,000 divided by ₹150, times 4), ₹6,000 of groceries gives 80 and ₹15,000 of other spends 200, so 520 a month and 6,240 a year (520 times 12). ₹3,60,000 a year (₹30,000 times 12) is well short of ₹6 lakh, so the only free night is the renewal one. That night must be worth more than ₹3,540 to you, because the 6,240 points are less than half of one 15,000-point award.
Typical, ₹60,000 a month. ₹4,500 of hotel stays at 8 per ₹150 is 240, ₹21,000 at 4 is 560, and ₹9,000 plus ₹25,500 at 2 give 120 and 340. That is 1,260 points a month and 15,120 a year (1,260 times 12), just over one top award. ₹7,20,000 a year (₹60,000 times 12) crosses ₹6 lakh, so this person gets two Free Night Awards. Two nights and about a night's worth of points against ₹3,540 is where the card start to look good.
Heavy, ₹1,35,000 a month. ₹15,000 at Marriott hotels earns 800, ₹45,000 of travel and dining 1,200, and ₹15,000 plus ₹60,000 at the base rate 200 and 800, so 3,000 points a month, 36,000 a year (3,000 times 12). At ₹16,20,000 a year (₹1,35,000 times 12) all three milestones fall, the most HDFC allows, so with the renewal night that's four Free Night Awards plus points for 2.4 more top awards (36,000 divided by 15,000). No monthly ceiling comes close.

Who can get the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC card
The income bar sit high here. Salaried applicants should be 21 to 60 years old with a net monthly income above ₹1 lakh. Self-employed applicants should be 21 to 65 with an income tax return above ₹15 lakh a year, which is ₹1.25 lakh a month (₹15,00,000 divided by 12), so in practice the self-employed need to show more. The card is only for Indian nationals.
HDFC doesn't publish a document list for this card. Its general guidance is proof of identity, address and income, and existing HDFC customers may be spared from submitting them again. Apply online through the card's Apply Now button or at a branch; the bank says a branch visit isn't needed.
How HDFC assesses you
Meeting the income line is the start, not the decision. The RBI's 2025 Directions ask HDFC to judge your repayment capacity from your own financial means and set the limit after looking at all the credit you hold with other lenders. A strong bureau record helps: on the 300 to 900 range, Experian counts above 750 as generally good. If HDFC turn you down, it must tell you the specific reasons in writing.
- Expect a one-page Key Fact Statement with the application, listing interest and charges.
- After approval, a dedicated concierge line for Marriott Bonvoy HDFC customers, 1800 309 3100, runs from 9 am to 9 pm.

Is the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC card worth ₹3,540 a year?
For a Marriott regular, usually yes. A person who stay at Marriott hotels several times a year, charges those stays at 8 points per ₹150 and spends about ₹60,000 a month in total collects two free nights a year and a fair pile of points, plus 24 lounge visits (12 in India plus 12 abroad). For a travel card that's a lot of return on a modest fee.
For everyone else it's a hard sell. Without a waiver you pay ₹3,540 a year whether you use the card or not, the points have no fixed rupee value, and the free nights only help if you would have stayed at a Marriott anyway. Someone wanting flexible travel value is better with a card that let them move points to several airlines or book through a portal.
Watch the timing too. Cardholders who join from 1 October 2026 wait for the annual fee, levied on the 45th day, before the welcome night arrive. And as the network isn't stated, check the card is accepted where you travel before relying on it abroad, where the 3.5% markup applies anyway.
