What ICICI Bank’s interest rate card tells you

ICICI Bank starts everyone at 8.50% and moves the ceiling instead. On its standard card the top of the range rises with loan size — 9.40% up to ₹35 lakh, 9.65% above ₹75 lakh for salaried borrowers — and self-employed applicants carry 0.15% more at every slab. Its special rates for scores of 750 and above hold you at 8.50%, or 8.60% if you’re self-employed and below 800. ICICI is also one of the few banks to publish fixed rates by term: 8.90% to 9.15% to fix for 37 months, rising to 10.90% or more to fix for the whole loan.

Ranked by published starting rate, ICICI Bank comes joint 34th of 48 — joint 17th within the 19 private banks we track. At 8.50%, ICICI Bank’s starting rate sits 3.25 points over the RBI repo rate of 5.25%. Between the bottom and top of ICICI Bank’s published range, the EMI on ₹50 lakh over 20 years moves by ₹4,199 a month — which is why the band you land in matters more than the headline.

How to land near the bottom of ICICI Bank’s range

  • If you’re self-employed with a score of 800 or more, ICICI’s special rate fixes you at 8.50% — the same as a salaried borrower — instead of a standard range that can run to 9.80%.
  • Look at where your loan amount falls against the card’s size brackets before you settle the figure. Being just across a bracket boundary can change your rate, in either direction.
  • Get at least two written quotes before you commit. Lenders move more readily against a real competing offer than against a rate you’ve read online.
