L&T Finance PLANET Loan App Real or Fake? Lender, Costs, Red Flags

Yes, the L&T Finance PLANET app is real. The personal loans it leads to come from L&T Finance Limited, an RBI-registered NBFC that RBI counts among India's largest lenders. This is not a fly-by-night loan app.

Real and safe are two separate questions, though. The lender is regulated, but leaving a loan early can cost up to 5%, and the app's 4.7 rating is padded with templated reviews. Before you apply, check one thing: that the app, the caller and the Key Fact Statement (KFS) all point to L&T Finance itself.

Quick answer

  • Real company: L&T Finance Limited of Mumbai publishes PLANET on Google Play. Its parent is Larsen & Toubro Limited.
  • Regulated lender: RBI's register of NBFCs as on 30 September 2026 lists it at entry 3885, in the Upper Layer.
  • Mostly a servicing app: L&T's own list says PLANET redirects new personal loan applicants to a web journey.
  • Big-lender pricing: 10.50% to 24% a year, a fee of up to 4% plus taxes, and up to 5% to close early.
  • Two things to doubt: many recent five-star reviews look templated, and fake callers use the L&T name.

Who runs PLANET and who lends the money

On Google Play the app is called "L&T Finance : PLANET Loan App". The developer is L&T Finance Limited, based at Brindavan in Kalina, Santacruz East, Mumbai. Its parent company is Larsen & Toubro Limited.

In December 2023, L&T Finance Holdings merged its lending arm, then also named L&T Finance Limited, into itself. The holding company took the name L&T Finance Ltd. from 28 March 2024. That's why RBI's register shows it as "Formerly: L & T Finance Holdings Limited".

There's no separate tech firm in the middle. L&T Finance owns PLANET and lends from its own books. Its personal loan co-lending sheet also names one partner NBFC, Newtap Finance, entry 4922 in RBI's register. We couldn't see which loans, if any, it co-funds.

PLANET isn't only for personal loans. It also serves two-wheeler, home, business, rural and farm loans. For a new personal loan, though, L&T's list of digital lending apps says PLANET passes you to its web journey.

Is L&T Finance RBI registered? Six checks you can repeat

An app can't hold an RBI licence. The lender does. So the real test is L&T Finance Limited, and whether it claims PLANET as its own app. We ran these checks on 4 November 2026.

  1. Read the lender's name. Your offer letter and KFS should say L&T Finance Limited. If they name someone else, ask why before you sign.
  2. Search RBI's NBFC register. We used the edition with data to 30 September 2026, issued on 15 October 2026. L&T Finance sits at entry 3885, under RBI's Mumbai office, in the ICC class and the Upper layer.
  3. Match the company number. The register gives CIN L67120MH2008PLC181833. The same CIN is printed at the foot of L&T Finance's website.
  4. Check RBI's Upper Layer list. RBI's press release of 6 August 2026 names L&T Finance among the 2026-27 Upper Layer NBFCs. That group faces stricter rules than smaller lenders.
  5. See if the lender names the app. L&T's digital lending disclosure lists PLANET, package com.ltfs.d2c, as its own app. RBI's directory of lending apps wouldn't load for us, so try that one yourself.
  6. Look for RBI action. We found one: a ₹2.50 crore penalty in October 2023, covered below.

Our walk-through on how to check if a loan app is RBI approved shows each site step by step.

What an L&T Finance personal loan costs

L&T Finance publishes its rates and charges, but its own pages don't always match. Here is what we found as of November 2026, and where we found it.

One line at the top of the fees page says the fee is up to 3%. The table under it says 4%. Plan for 4% until your KFS says otherwise.

The Play listing has a worked example. You borrow ₹10,00,000 at 12% a year for 48 months. A 2% fee of ₹20,000 comes off, so ₹9,80,000 reaches your bank. The EMI shown is ₹26,445.

The usual EMI formula gives about ₹26,334 for those terms, so the listed figure looks a little high. The ₹9,80,000 also leaves out GST on the fee. Only the KFS counts.

Exit costs are where the money adds up. In L&T's own example, closing a loan with ₹5,00,000 still owed costs ₹25,000 plus taxes. Miss a ₹10,000 EMI and you pay ₹200 plus taxes for that month.

Watch for insurance too. L&T's terms call it voluntary, and Play says it raises your EMI.

Why some people think L&T Finance is fake

L&T Finance is not a fake lender. Still, a few things make people wary.

  • Reviews that read like a script. Since late October 2026, most new five-star reviews are one-line praise of PLANET's menus and layout. They come from different names and never mention a loan.
  • Ads that overpromise. The Play listing talks about a "personal loan without cibil". Yet the eligibility page wants a score of at least 700.
  • A thin data label. On Play, the data safety label claims the app collects nothing about you. L&T's privacy policy says PLANET can use your location, calendar, the apps on your phone and transaction SMS.
  • An RBI fine. In October 2023, RBI fined the then lending arm ₹2.50 crore. It had charged higher penal and annual rates than borrowers were told, without notice. That was a penalty, not a ban.
  • Rejections with good scores. Some reviewers say they were turned down with scores of 771 to 780. Lenders refuse for many reasons, and that alone doesn't make one fake.
  • Offers from other apps. About 19 partner apps sell L&T loans, so an L&T offer may reach you through a name you don't expect.

What is normal? A KYC check, a credit pull, an e-mandate for EMIs and a fee taken from the payout. None of these is a sign of a scam.

What borrowers say about PLANET

On 4 November 2026, PLANET showed 4.7 stars from 2.15 lakh reviews and over 1 crore downloads on Google Play. It was last updated on 3 November 2026. The App Store version had 4.6 from 11k ratings.

We read the 1,500 newest Play reviews, from 3 October to 3 November 2026. Of those, 1,382 gave five stars and 63 gave one. From 22 October to 2 November, 207 of 376 reviews were short, polished lines about menus and layout.

Earlier in October, the same stock phrases kept repeating under different names. "Perfect app" showed up 17 times and "super great app" 16 times, and 151 reviews landed on 4 October alone. We don't know who posted them. We call the pattern inorganic, not proof of paid reviews.

The detailed one-star reviews say more. The repeat complaints:

  • EMIs paid early that didn't show, then a second auto-debit try or a ₹500 bounce charge
  • login, OTP and "unable to fetch" errors around EMI dates
  • about 100 reminder calls before a ₹1,200 due date, as one user wrote on 2 November 2026
  • foreclosure money paid, but the loan still showing as open
  • a borrower told 10.2% on the phone who later found a higher rate

There is praise too. One long-time customer wrote of financing 5 to 6 vehicles with L&T Finance.

How to spot a fake L&T Finance app, agent or call

Big lenders get copied the most, and L&T Finance says so itself. Its fraud page warns that fake loan apps promise quick money and may give no address or contact details. These checks keep you on the right side.

  • Install from Google Play only. Look for "L&T Finance : PLANET Loan App", package com.ltfs.d2c, by L&T Finance. Ignore APK files sent over WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS.
  • Never pay a fee in advance. L&T's fraud page says real lenders take the fee out of the loan, not before it. Its loan terms say every payment must be in the company's favour.
  • Skip personal UPI IDs. Pay EMIs through PLANET, your e-mandate, L&T's website or a branch. Nobody genuine needs money sent to a person.
  • Keep card details private. L&T's advisory says it will never ask for your full debit card number or the CVV.
  • Dial numbers from L&T's own site. The care line is 1800 268 0000. A 2022 reply on Play gave 7264888777, which no current L&T page lists.
  • Test odd links. L&T runs a link checker on its Sachet with Sachet microsite, launched in December 2025.

If a caller claims to be from L&T and pushes you to act fast, hang up and ring the care line yourself.

What to do if something goes wrong

Save screenshots of your KFS, receipts and bank statements. Then climb this ladder.

  1. Care team. Ring the toll-free 1800 268 0000 between 9 am and 6 pm (closed on national holidays). Email works too: customercare@ltfs.com. The WhatsApp line, +91 7378333451, sends statements and NOCs.
  2. Grievance officer. Email gro@ltfs.com, addressed to Mr. Vinod Varadan, or ring 1800 1020 476 on weekdays.
  3. Principal nodal officer. Escalate to Mr. Amit Dimri at pno@ltfs.com or 1800 1038 712.
  4. RBI. No fix after 30 days? File a complaint on RBI's Integrated Ombudsman portal, cms.rbi.org.in, or call 14448.
  5. Fraud. If someone posing as L&T took money or threatens you, call the cybercrime helpline, 1930, straight away.

L&T says its grievance process also covers its call centres and partner apps. All these numbers sit on our L&T Finance customer care page, and our customer care directory lists other lenders.

Should you use L&T Finance PLANET?

L&T Finance may suit you if:

  • you're salaried, aged 21 to 58, with a credit score of at least 700 and take-home pay of ₹25,000 a month or more
  • you need a big sum, up to ₹30 lakh, over as long as 72 months
  • you plan to keep the loan to term, so exit charges won't bite

Look elsewhere if:

  • you need less than ₹50,000
  • you may clear the loan early and want low exit charges
  • you want an app that rarely trips up on payments

Before you accept, get a second quote from another large lender and compare the APR and exit charges. Tata Capital, Bajaj Finance through Bajaj Finserv, and Aditya Birla Capital all appear on the same RBI Upper Layer list. Ratings and full terms are in our full L&T Finance review, and you can compare more lenders on our loan app reviews page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the L&T Finance PLANET app real or fake?

It's real. L&T Finance Limited, a Mumbai NBFC whose parent is Larsen & Toubro, publishes PLANET on Google Play and lends the money itself. Its own list of digital lending apps names PLANET. We found no RBI ban or Play removal. The one RBI action on record is a 2023 fine over how it disclosed and changed rates.

Is L&T Finance registered with RBI?

Yes. RBI's register of NBFCs for 30 September 2026 shows L&T Finance Limited at entry 3885, under the Mumbai office, with CIN L67120MH2008PLC181833. RBI also names it in the 2026-27 Upper Layer, the group of large NBFCs that face tighter rules. Make sure your KFS names L&T Finance Limited as the lender.

What does an L&T Finance personal loan really cost?

Interest runs from 10.50% to 24% a year under L&T's rate model, and Play lists an APR of 11% to 26%. A fee of up to 4% plus taxes comes out of the payout. Closing early costs up to 5% plus taxes, and a late EMI up to 2% a month. Your KFS shows your exact APR.

What is the L&T Finance customer care number?

The toll-free number is 1800 268 0000. It answers from 9 am to 6 pm, seven days a week, apart from national holidays. You can also email customercare@ltfs.com or message +91 7378333451 on WhatsApp. For complaints, the grievance officer's line is 1800 1020 476. Don't trust a "care number" from an ad or a stranger's message.

What should I do about fake L&T Finance calls or harsh recovery calls?

If a caller wants an upfront fee, an OTP or card details, hang up, since L&T says it never asks for card details. If genuine reminder calls feel like too many, note each date and number and write to gro@ltfs.com. For threats, or money lost to a fake agent, call 1930 at once.

How do I cancel or close an L&T Finance loan early?

Within 3 days of payout, you can exit with no prepayment penalty. After that, cancelling or foreclosing costs up to 5% of the principal left plus taxes. A part payment costs up to 5% of the amount paid. PLANET lets you foreclose a personal loan in a few steps. Ask for your NOC once it closes.

Why does PLANET send me to a website for a personal loan?

That's how L&T has set it up. Its list of digital lending apps describes PLANET as a servicing app. For a personal loan, it sends you on to L&T's web journey. The loan still comes from L&T Finance. Once the money is paid out, you manage EMIs, statements and NOCs inside PLANET.

Can I get an L&T Finance loan through other apps?

Yes. L&T lists about 19 partner apps and sites that bring it personal loan customers, including IndiaLends, Paisabazaar, CRED, PhonePe, Google Pay and Amazon. In each case L&T Finance is still the lender, so its rates, charges and grievance officer apply. Check that the KFS names L&T Finance Limited.
