Reviewed by BankCreds App Review Team· App Review Analysts Updated 4 November 2026

Tata Capital is the Tata group's lending company, and its Tata Capital Loan App & Wealth app sells and services personal loans next to home, vehicle and business loans. The money comes from Tata Capital Limited itself, an RBI-registered NBFC in the Upper Layer, and the cost to check first is leaving early: foreclosing within 12 months of payout costs 6.5% of what you still owe. The website lists ₹40,000 to ₹35 lakh over up to 6 years at 10.99% to 33% a year, with an APR of up to 45% and a processing fee of up to 5% plus GST. The Play listing quotes different limits, so below we set the two side by side, check RBI's records and read what users have reported recently, as of November 2026.

Our Ratings

Disbursal speed 3.5/5

Tata Capital promises approval instantly or within 48 hours and a payout that usually takes 24 hours, though a few reviewers describe signed loans that were not paid out.

Interest & cost 3.0/5

A 10.99% to 33% band is normal NBFC pricing, but an APR of up to 45%, a 5% fee, documentation charges and 6.5% foreclosure push the real cost up.

App experience 2.5/5

The app holds 4.4 stars overall, yet recent reviews are dominated by login failures after version 2.6.6 and missing foreclosure options.

Customer support 3.0/5

Named grievance officers with direct phone lines and a 7-working-day escalation rule, offset by reviews of automated, chargeable calls and slow foreclosure letters.

Safety & transparency 4.0/5

An Upper Layer NBFC that lends directly and lists its own app, though its Play data safety notes sharing installed apps and precise location, and data can't be deleted.

Loan Details & Charges

Loan Amount ₹40,000 to ₹35,00,000
Interest Rate 10.99% to 33% a year
Tenure 12 months to 72 months
Processing Fee Up to 5% + GST
Late Payment 3% per month on the defaulted amount (annualised penal charge of 36%)
Foreclosure 6.5% of principal outstanding if foreclosed within 12 months of first disbursement, 4.5% after 12 months. Part-prepayment is free up to 25% of the disbursed amount over the tenure; above that 6.5% (first 12 months) or 4.5% of the part-prepaid amount. No prepayment penalty in the 3-day cooling-off period; loan cancellation charge 2% of the facility or ₹5,750, whichever is higher.
Bounce Charges ₹600 per instrument per instance; mandate rejection service charge ₹450 if a new mandate is not registered within 30 days

Eligibility Criteria

Age 21-58 years
Min Income ₹20,000 per month
CIBIL Score 725+
Employment Salaried (private company, public sector or government organisation), with at least 1 year at the current job and 2 years' total experience (personal-loan page; the application-process page says one year's experience and six months in the current job). The small-loan page also mentions business owners, pensioners and housewives, but no criteria for them are published.
Documents PAN (mandatory) or Form 60; photo ID (Aadhaar, voter ID, passport or driving licence); address proof (Aadhaar, utility bill, passport or rent agreement); latest 3 months' salary slips; Form 16 for the last 2 years; last 3 to 6 months' salary-account bank statements; employment ID card or offer letter

What It Actually Costs

Loan amount ₹5,00,000
Tenure 24 months
Monthly EMI ₹24,006
Total interest ₹76,144
Processing fee ₹11,800 (2% = ₹10,000 + 18% GST of ₹1,800), deducted upfront
Total repayment ₹5,76,144

This uses Tata Capital's own Play example: ₹5 lakh for 2 years at 14% with a 2% fee. You'd receive about ₹4,88,200, less any documentation charge and stamp duty, but repay EMIs on the full ₹5,00,000. At the 33% ceiling with a 5% fee, the EMI would be ₹28,734 and the fee ₹29,500.

Pros

  • The lender is Tata Capital Limited itself, an Upper Layer NBFC on RBI's register and part of the Tata group
  • Large tickets: ₹40,000 to ₹35 lakh on the website, repaid over up to 6 years
  • One charges page shows the rate band, the APR range and every fee, updated in October 2026
  • Part-prepay up to 25% of the disbursed amount free, and a 3-day cooling-off with no prepayment penalty
  • A named retail grievance officer and Principal Nodal Officer, each with a direct phone line

Cons

  • Foreclosure costs 6.5% of the principal outstanding in the first 12 months and 4.5% after that
  • APR can reach 45%, and fees stack: up to 5% processing plus GST and up to ₹1,999 documentation
  • Late payment costs 3% a month on the overdue amount, an annualised 36%, plus ₹600 per failed payment
  • The Play listing and the website disagree on amount, tenure, APR and fee, so only your KFS counts
  • Recent reviews report login failures after app version 2.6.6 and no foreclosure option inside the app

Our Verdict

If you want a large, regulated name behind your loan, Tata Capital is a safe pick. It lends from its own books as an Upper Layer NBFC, it's a subsidiary of Tata Sons, its own list of digital lending apps names the Tata Capital app, and it publishes a four-level complaint ladder with a named retail grievance officer and Principal Nodal Officer. We found no RBI penalty against it in our searches. The price is NBFC money, not bank money. Rates run from 10.99% to 33% a year and the website's APR goes up to 45%, before a processing fee of up to 5% plus GST and documentation charges of up to ₹1,999. Leaving early hurts: 6.5% of the principal outstanding in the first 12 months and 4.5% after, with only 25% of the loan free to part-prepay. The app is also in a rough patch, with a wave of login complaints since the 2.6.6 update in late October 2026. It suits salaried borrowers aged 21 to 58 who earn ₹20,000 a month or more, have a score near 725 and plan to keep the loan to term. Ask for the APR and the foreclosure schedule in your Key Fact Statement before you sign.

Who Tata Capital suits

Salaried borrowers aged 21 to 58 with at least ₹20,000 a month in income
People with a credit score of 725 or more who want the lower end of the rate band
Borrowers who need a large loan, up to ₹35 lakh, spread over up to 6 years
Anyone who prefers a big, branch-backed NBFC from a known group to an app-only lender

Look elsewhere if

You may repay early: 6.5% foreclosure in the first 12 months can wipe out the interest you save
You're not salaried, since Tata Capital publishes eligibility rules only for salaried applicants
You need to manage the loan in the app right now, given the login complaints since the 2.6.6 update

Not sure the app is genuine? Is Tata Capital real or fake? How to check it yourself

Things to Watch

  • Leaving early is expensive: 6.5% of the principal outstanding if you foreclose within 12 months of payout and 4.5% after, and anything above 25% of the loan prepaid in part costs the same rates.
  • Tata Capital's own figures disagree: ₹40,000 to ₹35 lakh, up to 6 years, an APR of up to 45% and a fee of up to 5% on the website, but ₹5,000 to ₹10 lakh, 12 to 84 months, a maximum APR of 26% and fees from ₹1,499 on Google Play. The Play example's total repayment is also printed with a digit missing.
  • The app's Play data safety section says it may share precise location, installed apps, phone number and financial info with third parties, and that data can't be deleted.
  • Since the 2.6.6 update in late October 2026, many reviewers say they can't log in or open the app, and older reviews describe foreclosure letters taking days and a customer care line that is charged and automated.
  • Fraudsters use the Tata name: Tata Capital's fraud advisory warns of fake representatives and websites, and police in Gurugram arrested a gang offering loans in Tata Capital's name, as reported by ThePrint (PTI) in April 2024.

How to Apply for Tata Capital

  1. 1

Check you fit the basic bar

Tata Capital's published bar is salaried, aged 21 to 58, earning ₹20,000 a month or more, with a score of 725 or above preferred.

  2. 2

Apply in the app or on the website

Enter your basic details, then pick a loan amount and tenure from the offer shown.

  3. 3

    Finish KYC and the e-mandate

Complete your personal details and KYC, upload income documents if asked, and set up the e-mandate for EMIs.

  4. 4

Read the sanction letter and KFS

Check the APR, the fee deducted from the payout, any insurance (it is optional) and the foreclosure schedule before you confirm.

  5. 5

Get the money and keep the cooling-off in mind

Payout usually takes 24 hours after you accept. You have 3 days from disbursal to cancel and prepay without a prepayment penalty.

Documents Required

PAN card (mandatory), or Form 60
Photo ID: Aadhaar, voter ID, passport or driving licence
Address proof: Aadhaar, a utility bill, passport or rent agreement
Latest 3 months' salary slips and Form 16 for the last 2 years
Last 3 to 6 months' salary-account statements and an employment ID or offer letter

What Real Users Say

The app shows 4.4 stars from 1.16L reviews and 50L+ downloads, last updated on 13 Oct 2026. It also serves vehicle, home and business loans, so many reviews are not about personal loans. Short one-word five-star posts are common; we saw no burst of identical text.

Recent Play reviews are split. Many long-time users like the app for checking loans and paying EMIs, but since late October 2026 one-star reviews have piled up about the app not opening or not accepting registered numbers after the 2.6.6 update.

What users love

Positive reviews mention easy use and fast payouts, with one naming a helpful loan officer; most other five-star posts are a single word such as good or nice.

Common complaints

Login and OTP failures, the app stuck on its splash or permissions screen, no foreclosure or part-payment option in the app, foreclosure letters taking up to 10 days, EMIs debited twice, a charged and automated helpline, rates seen as high, and one claim of insurance added without consent. Tata Capital replies to most reviews asking for details by email.

How Tata Capital Compares

vs Bajaj Finserv — Another large NBFC with big-ticket personal loans; get both Key Fact Statements and compare the APR and foreclosure lines, not just the starting rate.

vs Aditya Birla Capital — A group-backed NBFC rival for salaried borrowers; worth a quote if Tata Capital's offer lands near the top of its band.

vs Poonawalla Fincorp — A comparable NBFC personal loan; check whether its exit charges are kinder than Tata Capital's 6.5% in the first year.

vs L&T Finance — A large NBFC that also sells personal loans through its own app; compare its fee and prepayment terms side by side with Tata Capital's.

How we tested

Checked in November 2026. On 4 November 2026 we read Tata Capital's personal loan, rates and charges, eligibility, documents, application, grievance, partner and fraud advisory pages, its digital lending partner list and its grievance policy. We checked RBI's NBFC register as on 30 September 2026, the app's Play listing and data safety section, and the newest Play reviews. RBI's Digital Lending Apps directory would not load and we did not take a loan, so live offers and payout times are unverified.

Tata Capital Customer Support Details

For a personal loan, start with the retail line, 1860 267 6060, open 9am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, or email customercare@tatacapital.com with your loan account number. Tata Capital calls the line toll-free, but some reviewers say they were charged and stuck in an automated menu, so email leaves a better trail. No fix within 7 working days? Escalate to the retail grievance officer, then the Principal Nodal Officer, then RBI's Ombudsman after 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tata Capital safe and RBI registered?
Yes. Tata Capital Limited appears in RBI's list of registered NBFCs as on 30 September 2026 at serial 7610, under the Mumbai regional office, as a non-deposit-taking Investment and Credit Company in the Upper Layer. It's a subsidiary of Tata Sons, and its own list of digital lending apps names the Tata Capital Loan App & Wealth. We found no RBI penalty against it in our searches, as of November 2026.
What does a Tata Capital personal loan really cost?
The rates page lists 10.99% to 33% a year and an APR of 10.99% to 45%. On top come a processing fee of up to 5% plus GST, taken from the payout, documentation charges of up to ₹1,999 and stamp duty. Tata Capital's own example, ₹5 lakh for 2 years at 14%, gives an EMI of ₹24,006. Late EMIs cost 3% a month.
How much can I borrow from Tata Capital, and for how long?
The website says ₹40,000 to ₹35 lakh, repaid over up to 6 years. The Play listing for the app says ₹5,000 to ₹10 lakh over 12 to 84 months, and the small-loan page mentions 18 to 36 months. Your real limit depends on income, existing EMIs and credit score, so go by the sanction letter and Key Fact Statement, not the advert.
Who is eligible for a Tata Capital personal loan, and what documents are needed?
The published criteria are for salaried applicants aged 21 to 58, earning at least ₹20,000 a month, with 1 year in the current job and 2 years' total experience; a score of 725 or more is preferred. You'll need PAN, Aadhaar or another ID and address proof, 3 months' salary slips, Form 16 for 2 years and recent salary-account statements.
What is the Tata Capital customer care number, and how do I complain?
For retail loans, call 1860 267 6060 between 9am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday, or email customercare@tatacapital.com with your loan account number. If there's no answer within 7 working days, escalate to the retail grievance officer, Ms. Francyna Dias (022 6968 2393), then the Principal Nodal Officer, Ms. Sona S. Gaharwar (022 6968 2392). After 30 days unresolved, go to RBI's Ombudsman.
Can I foreclose a Tata Capital personal loan, and what does it cost?
Yes, but it isn't cheap. Foreclosure within 12 months of the first payout costs 6.5% of the principal outstanding, and 4.5% after that, plus GST. You can part-prepay up to 25% of the disbursed amount free over the loan's life. Within 3 days of payout there's no prepayment penalty. Reviewers say the app has no foreclosure button, so request a foreclosure letter by email.
How do I file a complaint against Tata Capital?
Work the escalation ladder in order. First, raise the complaint with Tata Capital support (customercare@tatacapital.com) and insist on a written complaint reference number — a call with no reference number effectively did not happen. If it is unresolved, escalate to the grievance redressal officer at SeniorCRORetail@tatacapital.com. The regulated entity has 30 days to resolve it. After that, you can complain free of cost to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in — no lawyer is needed, and the decision is binding on the lender.
How do I stop harassment calls from Tata Capital recovery agents?
RBI's rules on recovery conduct are specific: agents may not call before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m., may not use threats, abuse or intimidation, and may not contact people from your phonebook to shame you. Blanket access to your contacts and photos is prohibited for digital lenders. If this is happening, save the evidence — call logs, screenshots, recordings — and complain to the lender's grievance officer (SeniorCRORetail@tatacapital.com), then to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in if it continues. If the app is not a regulated entity at all, report it on the RBI Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in) and to the cyber-crime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in. Harassment, morphed images and contact-list shaming are criminal offences regardless of whether you owe money.
