INFINIA Metal Edition: what it is and who gets it
You don't apply for Infinia; HDFC Bank invite you. The bank's page says it will assess eligibility and tell you personally if you qualify, and it publish no age or income rule. So this review mainly discuss about people who already hold the card or have an offer in hand and wonder if the fee is worth it. The card is active; HDFC's pages don't name its network.
What sets it apart
- Earning. 5 Reward Points per ₹150, counted in multiples of ₹150. HDFC's 15 May 2026 notice moved most points cards to per ₹200 but said plainly there is no change for Infinia.
- Point value. Business Standard reported in February 2026, citing HDFC's website, that a point is worth ₹1 on SmartBuy flights, hotels, Apple products and Tanishq vouchers. The HDFC documents we checked don't state it. At ₹1, 5 points per ₹150 is about 3.3% (5 divided by 150).
- Lounges. Unlimited in India, and unlimited abroad through Priority Pass, for primary and add-on cardholders.
- Interest. 1.99% a month, about half the 3.75% on most HDFC cards.
Changes from 2024 to 2026
- 1 October 2024: Apple redemptions limited to one product a calendar quarter, Tanishq to 50,000 points a quarter.
- 1 July 2025: insurance spends capped at 10,000 points a month, earlier it was 5,000 a day.
- January 2026: Business Standard reported a cut in the SmartBuy voucher multiplier from 5X to 3X, and redemption limits from February of five a month and ₹2 lakh a statement cycle. HDFC's own documents doesn't confirm these.
- 15 May 2026: 1.75% markup on rupee payments abroad, ₹3,500 to reissue a metal card.
- 1 July 2026: SmartBuy brand vouchers capped at 3,000 accelerated points a month.
Infinia Metal fees, and the charges HDFC leaves blank
Joining and renewal are ₹12,500 each, plus GST. At 18% the tax is ₹2,250, making ₹14,750 a year. Cards sourced before 18 October 2021 stay on older terms, ₹10,000 plus taxes, waived on ₹8 lakh.
The waiver needs ₹10 lakh in the 12 months before renewal, about ₹83,334 a month (₹10,00,000 divided by 12 is ₹83,333.33). Now the twist. Welcome and renewal benefits are 12,500 Reward Points each, given on fee realisation. If a point fetch ₹1 as reported, paying ₹14,750 brings back points worth ₹12,500, so a paid year really cost about ₹2,250, basically the GST. HDFC ties those points to the fee being paid, so a waived year should not be expected to bring them.
Revolving costs 1.99% a month, 23.88% a year, plus GST. A ₹1 lakh balance left for 30 days runs up about ₹1,963 (30 times ₹1,00,000 times 23.88%, divided by 365). On a 3.75% card the same balance would cost nearly double.
Some charges simply aren't published for this card. The MITC excludes Infinia Metal from its late payment table, from the cash advance fee and from the over-limit charge, so the bank does not publish those figures for it. A returned payment costs 2%, minimum ₹450, capped at ₹4,999 for Infinia.
Forex is 2% plus GST. Fuel gets a 1% surcharge waiver on fills of ₹400 or more, up to ₹1,000 a statement cycle. HDFC's usual 1% fees on rent, wallet loads, gaming, large utility bills and app-paid education still applies, each capped at ₹4,999. Add-ons are free and no redemption fee is charged.

How Infinia points add up
Base earning is 5 points per ₹150. On SmartBuy, HDFC's rewards portal, you can earn up to 10X for a limited period under SmartBuy's own terms, with accelerated points capped at 15,000 a month; brand vouchers within that are limited to 3,000 a month from 1 July 2026. At a full 10X a ₹150 spend earns 50 points, 45 of them extra, so the cap fills at about ₹50,000 of SmartBuy spend (15,000 divided by 45, times ₹150).
Caps elsewhere: insurance 10,000 points a month, grocery 2,000, utilities 2,000, telecom 2,000 and UPI 500. A statement cycle tops out at 2,00,000. Fuel, rent, government, wallet loads, EasyEMI, gaming and app-paid education earn nothing. Points lasts for 3 years.
Flights and hotels on SmartBuy can be paid up to 70% with points, capped at 1,50,000 points a calendar month including airmiles. Turkish Miles, Accor and Avianca LifeMiles convert at 2 points to 1. Cashback is allowed up to 50,000 points a month, but HDFC doesn't publish its value. The welcome pack also has a first-year Club Marriott membership.
| Monthly spend | Light ₹60,000 | Typical ₹1,50,000 | Heavy ₹3,00,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| SmartBuy hotel at 10X | None | None | ₹30,000: 10,000 points |
| Grocery | ₹7,500: 250 points | ₹15,000: 500 points | ₹19,500: 650 points |
| Utilities | ₹3,000: 100 points | ₹6,000: 200 points | ₹10,500: 350 points |
| Everything else eligible | ₹49,500: 1,650 points | ₹1,29,000: 4,300 points | ₹2,40,000: 8,000 points |
| Points in a year | 36,500 with renewal points | 60,000 | 2,28,000 |
| Fee | ₹14,750 paid | Waived | Waived |
Each figure is spend divided by 150, times 5, and values assume the reported ₹1 a point on SmartBuy travel. Light: 250 plus 100 plus 1,650 is 2,000 points a month, 24,000 a year, plus 12,500 renewal points because ₹7.2 lakh (₹60,000 times 12) misses the waiver. 36,500 points against the ₹14,750 fee leave about ₹21,750.
Typical: 500 plus 200 plus 4,300 is 5,000 points a month, 60,000 a year, around ₹60,000 on flights. ₹18 lakh of spend (₹1,50,000 times 12) waives the fee, so no renewal points, but you still come out ₹2,250 ahead of paying.
Heavy: the hotel booking earns 200 blocks of ₹150 times 50, or 10,000 points, and its 9,000 accelerated points (200 times 45) sit well under the 15,000 cap. The rest adds 650 plus 350 plus 8,000, so 19,000 a month and 2,28,000 a year. Converted to partner points at 2 to 1, the same pile become 1,14,000.

How people end up with Infinia Metal
By invitation only. HDFC says it will assess your eligibility and inform you personally if you qualify. There is no published age, income or document list, and no public application form, so you can't apply for it the way you would for Regalia Gold or Diners Club Black Metal.
What triggers an invite isn't published either. What we do know is the rules every bank follow. Under the RBI's 2025 card Directions, HDFC must assess credit risk on your own financial means and count the limits you hold with other lenders. On Experian's 300 to 900 range, anything over 750 counts as generally good.
If an invitation arrives
- The bank can issue the card, or upgrade your existing HDFC card to it, only with your explicit written or digital consent.
- If a card is activated and billed without consent, the bank must reverse the charges and pay a penalty of twice the amount reversed.
- You should get a one-page Key Fact Statement showing interest and charges. Check it, since the MITC leave several Infinia charges blank.
- Not activating within 30 days mean the bank must seek OTP consent, and close the account free if you don't confirm.
There is no form or request button for it on HDFC's site, the decision and the timing of any invite stays with the bank.

Who should keep Infinia, and who shouldn't
The person who gains most spend ₹1.5 lakh or more a month, flies several times a year, and books those flights and hotels through SmartBuy. For them the fee is waived, lounges are unlimited for the whole family on add-ons, and every ₹150 earns 5 points that, at the reported ₹1, is more than double the base return of Regalia Gold.
If you were invited but spend below ₹83,334 a month, it is still reasonable to hold, the 12,500 renewal points covers most of the fee. What makes no sense is holding it for cashback, since HDFC doesn't publish that value, or for shopping outside SmartBuy only.
The trade-offs are about control. Apple redemptions are one a quarter, Tanishq is capped, SmartBuy rules can change for a limited-period programme, and the press has reported extra redemption limits that HDFC's documents doesn't show. The MITC also leave the late fee and cash advance fee unstated. HDFC's group insurance covers 'Super Premium' cards without listing which ones, so we don't count any cover as a benefit of this card. Value it on points and lounges alone.
Pros
- 5 Reward Points per ₹150, about 3.3% back if points are worth the reported ₹1
- 12,500 points on each fee payment, worth ₹12,500 at the reported value, against ₹14,750 with GST
- Unlimited lounge access in India and abroad for primary and add-on cardholders
- Interest of 1.99% a month against 3.75% on most HDFC cards
- Points stay valid for 3 years and no redemption fee is charged
Cons
- Invite only, with no published eligibility or application route
- The ₹1 point value comes from a press report, not an HDFC document
- Apple redemptions are limited to one a quarter and Tanishq to 50,000 points a quarter
- Late fee, cash advance fee and over-limit charge are not stated in the MITC
- SmartBuy brand vouchers are capped at 3,000 accelerated points a month from 1 July 2026
Infinia Metal against three premium alternatives
None of these three is invite-only, which matter if no invitation has come your way.
HDFC Diners Club Black Metal Edition
Diners Club Black Metal shares Infinia's 5 points per ₹150 and 1.99% interest, costs ₹10,000 plus GST, and is waived at ₹8 lakh. It is open to salaried applicants with net monthly income above ₹2.5 lakh. Limits are tighter: 75,000 points a statement cycle and 75,000 a month for flights and hotels, against Infinia's 2,00,000 and 1,50,000.
Axis Bank Magnus
Magnus also costs ₹12,500 plus GST but needs ₹25 lakh for a waiver. It earns 12 points per ₹200 up to ₹1.5 lakh a month and 35 per ₹200 above that, transferring 5 points to 2 partner miles. Domestic lounges need ₹50,000 over 3 months, forex is 2%, and salaried applicants need ₹24 lakh a year.
AU Zenith+
Zenith+ costs ₹4,999 plus GST, waived at ₹8 lakh. It earns 1 point per ₹100 at ₹1 a point, so 1%, and 2 per ₹100 on travel, dining and international spends. It gives 16 domestic and 16 international lounge visits a year, 1.99% interest, and forex of 0.99% falling to 0% on 1 December 2026.
Who should pick which
- Infinia, if invited and you redeem on SmartBuy travel.
- Diners Club Black Metal, if you want a similar earn rate and can apply on income.
- Magnus, only for very heavy spenders who transfer to airlines.
- Zenith+, for frequent foreign spends at near-zero forex and a much smaller fee.
