Regalia Gold after HDFC's May 2026 changes
Regalia Gold is HDFC Bank's mid-premium card, a step above the entry cards and below the metal Infinia and Diners Club Black. It earns Reward Points, opens lounges in India and abroad, and gives vouchers at spend milestones. It is active and open to new applicants.
The big news is earning. Until 15 May 2026 it was 4 points per ₹150; now it is 5 per ₹200. That look like more but works out a little less: ₹30,000 of spend used to earn 800 points (₹30,000 divided by 150, times 4) and now earns 750 (₹30,000 divided by 200, times 5). Any amount under ₹200 earns nothing now.
What decides your return
- Where you redeem. A point fetch ₹0.65 on the Exclusive Gold Catalogue, ₹0.50 on flights and hotels, and only 15 paise as cashback since 1 November 2025.
- The lounge rule. From the quarter that began on 1 July 2026, the 3 domestic visits a quarter need ₹60,000 of spend in the quarter before.
Other 2025 and 2026 changes
The 15 May 2026 notice also added Boarding Edge (upload a boarding pass on SmartBuy and pick any 2 of a spa, an Uber airport transfer, hotel dining or a room upgrade each calendar quarter), a 1.75% markup on rupee payments abroad and a ₹199 reissue fee. The welcome benefit moved from Club Vistara Silver and MMT Black to Swiggy One and MMT Black Gold, HDFC doesn't say on what date.
What Regalia Gold costs to hold and to use
You pay ₹2,500 to join and ₹2,500 at each renewal, with GST on top. At 18% each payment become ₹2,950 (₹2,500 plus ₹450). HDFC bills the first-year fee, with GST, on the 120th day after the card is issued. Add-on cards are free.
The waiver needs ₹4 lakh of retail spends within the 12 billing cycles of your anniversary year, roughly ₹33,334 a month (₹4,00,000 divided by 12 is ₹33,333.33). A household that put groceries, shopping, travel and bills on this card usually reaches it; a flights-and-weekends user often won't.
Revolving costs 3.75% a month, 45% a year, plus GST. Leave ₹50,000 unpaid for 20 days and the interest come to about ₹1,233 (20 times ₹50,000 times 45%, divided by 365). The late fee follows HDFC's slabs, from ₹100 on a bill of ₹101 to ₹500 up to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000, plus GST, and only after 3 grace days.
Foreign currency spends carry 2% plus GST, well below the 3.5% on HDFC's entry cards. There is no fuel surcharge waiver on this card, so the pump surcharge stays with you, and fuel earn no points either.
The usage fees are bank-wide: 1% on rent, on wallet loads and skill gaming past ₹10,000 a month, on utilities past ₹50,000 a month, on app-paid education and on a single fuel bill above ₹15,000, each capped at ₹4,999. Cash withdrawal costs 2.5% or ₹500, whichever higher, with interest from day one, and over-limit is 2.5% (minimum ₹550) only if you opted in.

Points, their value and three spending profiles
The base is 5 Reward Points per ₹200 of eligible retail spend. On the Gold Catalogue that is ₹3.25 back per ₹200 (5 times ₹0.65), about 1.6%; on flights and hotels ₹2.50 (5 times ₹0.50), or 1.25%; as cashback just ₹0.75 (5 times 15 paise), or 0.375%. Vouchers give up to ₹0.35 a point. Points last 2 years, and each catalogue redemption costs ₹99 plus GST. HDFC doesn't publish this card's SmartBuy accelerated rates, and its pages don't name the network.
Myntra, Nykaa, Reliance Digital and Marks & Spencer earn 5X, online or in store. HDFC caps the 5X points at 5,000 a month across these brands together, while base points carry on without cap. Reading 5X as five times the base, a ₹200 spend there earn 25 points.
Grocery, insurance, utilities and telecom are each capped at 2,000 points a month, UPI at 500. Fuel, rent, government, wallet loads, EasyEMI, app-paid education and gaming earn none. Milestones: a ₹1,500 voucher for each calendar quarter with ₹1.5 lakh of spends, and a ₹5,000 SmartBuy flight voucher at ₹5 lakh a year plus another at ₹7.5 lakh. In the table, points are spend divided by 200, times 5 (times 25 at the 5X brands).
| Monthly spend | Light ₹30,000 | Typical ₹60,000 | Heavy ₹1,20,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Myntra, Nykaa and similar at 5X | ₹4,000: 500 points | ₹6,000: 750 points | ₹10,000: 1,250 points |
| Grocery | ₹8,000: 200 points | ₹10,000: 250 points | ₹15,000: 375 points |
| Other eligible spends | ₹18,000: 450 points | ₹44,000: 1,100 points | ₹90,000: 2,250 points |
| Value at ₹0.65 a point | ₹8,970 | ₹16,380 | ₹30,225 |
| Milestone vouchers a year | None | ₹11,000 | ₹16,000 |
| Fee with GST | ₹2,950 | Waived | Waived |
Light. 500 plus 200 plus 450 is 1,150 points a month, 13,800 a year, or ₹8,970 at ₹0.65. ₹3.6 lakh a year (₹30,000 times 12) misses ₹4 lakh, so the ₹2,950 fee stay: net ₹6,020. As cashback the same points are worth ₹2,070 (13,800 times 15 paise), less than the fee.
Typical. 750 plus 250 plus 1,100 is 2,100 points a month, 25,200 a year, ₹16,380. Quarters of ₹1.8 lakh (₹60,000 times 3) earn four ₹1,500 vouchers (₹6,000), and ₹7.2 lakh a year (₹60,000 times 12) gets one ₹5,000 flight voucher. Fee waived, total ₹27,380.
Heavy. ₹5,000 of the ₹1,20,000 is fuel and earns nothing. 1,250 plus 375 plus 2,250 is 3,875 points a month; the 5X bonus is just 1,000 of them (50 blocks times 20 extra), far below the 5,000 cap. That's 46,500 a year, ₹30,225, plus ₹6,000 of quarterly vouchers and both flight vouchers (₹1,20,000 times 12 is ₹14.4 lakh), so ₹46,225.

Regalia Gold eligibility, documents and applying
HDFC sets the bar fairly high here. Salaried applicants should be 21 to 60 with gross monthly income above ₹1.5 lakh, or above ₹1 lakh for government employees. The self-employed need to be 21 to 65 and show an ITR above ₹18 lakh a year. Indian nationals only. The bank's FAQ word it as net monthly income while the eligibility section say gross, so if you are near the line, assume the stricter one.
HDFC does not publish a document list for this card; its general guidance asks identity, address and income proof, and existing customers may not need them. Apply online from the card page or at a branch. If HDFC says no, its FAQ suggests waiting six months before reapplying.
What the bank will weigh
- Your income against the floor, and the limits you already hold elsewhere. The RBI's 2025 card Directions want a limit set only after counting other lenders' limits.
- Your credit score. Experian treats above 750 as generally good, CRIF treats above 700 as good.
- Your consent. HDFC can't issue the card, or upgrade an existing one to it, without your explicit consent.
A rejection must come with specific reasons in writing, and approval stays the bank's decision.

Is Regalia Gold the right HDFC card for you?
It works best for a salaried professional spending ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh a month across shopping, groceries and travel, who flies a few times a year and redeem on the Gold Catalogue or SmartBuy flights. At that level the fee disappears, the quarterly vouchers pile up and the lounges stays unlocked.
It is a poor fit if you only ever take cashback. At 15 paise a point the base return falls to 0.375%, which make it worse than most entry cashback cards. It is also weak for people whose large spends are fuel, rent or wallet loads, all of which earn zero.
The trade-offs are real. The May 2026 change shaved about 6% off base earning (50 fewer points out of 800 on ₹30,000), lounge access now depend on last quarter's spend, and points expire in 2 years. On the other side, 2% forex beats HDFC's entry cards by a clear margin, and HDFC's 2026 to 2027 group policy names Regalia Gold for air accident cover of USD 125,000 and emergency medical cover abroad of USD 18,750. For an occasional traveller that is quite useful thing to have.
Pros
- Points are worth ₹0.65 each on the Gold Catalogue, about 1.6% back on base spends
- A 2% forex markup, against 3.5% on HDFC's entry cards
- 3 domestic lounge visits a quarter plus up to 6 Priority Pass visits a year
- A ₹1,500 voucher each quarter with ₹1.5 lakh of spends, and ₹5,000 flight vouchers at ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh a year
- The renewal fee is waived on ₹4 lakh of retail spends in the anniversary year
Cons
- Cashback redemption pays only 15 paise a point since 1 November 2025
- The 15 May 2026 change to 5 points per ₹200 cut base earning by about 6%
- Domestic lounges need ₹60,000 of spends in the previous quarter
- No fuel surcharge waiver and no points on fuel
- Most salaried applicants need gross monthly income above ₹1.5 lakh
