Swiggy Ornge, the card that replaces the old Swiggy HDFC card
Swiggy and HDFC Bank launched two new co-branded cards in March 2026, Swiggy Ornge and Swiggy BLCK, according to a press release carried by Business Standard on 12 March 2026. Ornge is the cheaper of the two and the one this page cover. It is active and open for applications.
If you hold the original Swiggy HDFC Bank card, this matters to you directly. HDFC's upgrade FAQ, published on 3 November 2026, says the old card is being phased out and cannot be kept. Holders are being moved to Ornge or BLCK in phases until March 2027, and anyone who don't respond is migrated to Ornge.
The card in four facts
- 5% cashback on the Swiggy app (food, Instamart and Dineout) and a long list of online brands and categories, up to ₹1,500 a billing cycle.
- 1% on other eligible spends, up to ₹1,000 a billing cycle, so at most ₹2,500 a statement.
- ₹500 plus GST to join; from the second year the ₹500 annual fee go away on ₹1.5 lakh of yearly spends.
- Cashback is credited straight against your statement balance, no points to convert.
HDFC's 15 May 2026 change to points counting does not touch Ornge, since it pays rupee cashback. The 1.75% markup on rupee payments abroad and the ₹199 card replacement fee from that date do apply. HDFC's product page lists Mastercard golf benefits, which point to the Mastercard network, though the page doesn't say it outright. We have not reviewed Swiggy BLCK in full.
Swiggy Ornge fees and charges
HDFC publishes Ornge's fees only in its MITC, there's no separate fees page. The joining fee is ₹500 plus GST, or ₹590 at 18% (₹500 plus ₹90), billed on the 120th day after issue. From the second year the ₹500 annual fee is waived if you spend ₹1.5 lakh in a year. That's ₹12,500 a month (₹1,50,000 divided by 12), which is not a big ask if Swiggy and online shopping already goes on this card. Add-on cards are free.
If you pay late or revolve
Interest is 3.75% a month, 45% a year, plus GST. Even a small ₹10,000 balance left for 45 days cost about ₹555 (45 times ₹10,000 times 45%, divided by 365), more than a full month of cashback for most light users. The late fee is set by the bill: ₹500 on ₹501 to ₹1,000, ₹750 on ₹5,001 to ₹10,000, rising to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000, plus GST, once 3 days pass after the due date with the minimum unpaid.
Cash, forex and other charges
- Cash withdrawal: 2.5% or ₹500, whichever is more. On ₹5,000 the 2.5% is only ₹125, so you pay the ₹500 minimum, and interest from the same day.
- Forex markup: 3.5% plus GST on foreign currency spends, and 1.75% on rupee payments to overseas-registered merchants.
- Fuel: no surcharge waiver on this card and no cashback.
- Bank-wide 1% fees: rent; wallet loads beyond ₹10,000 a month; online gaming beyond ₹10,000 a month; utility totals beyond ₹50,000 a month; education through third-party apps; single fuel bills beyond ₹15,000. Every one stop at ₹4,999.
- Over-limit: 2.5%, minimum ₹550, only with your opt-in. Replacement card: ₹199.

How Ornge cashback works, with three spenders
The 5% list is long. It covers all eligible Swiggy app spends (food orders, Instamart and Dineout) plus Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Cleartrip, BookMyShow, Uber, PharmEasy, Croma, Vijay Sales, Reliance Digital, Netflix, SonyLIV, Prime, Hotstar, Paytm Travel, Ixigo, Yatra, EaseMyTrip and ibibo, and whole merchant categories like apparel, pharmacy, pet care, personal care, travel and hotels and electronics. The 5% is capped at ₹1,500 a billing cycle, which you reach at ₹30,000 of such spends (₹1,500 divided by 5%).
Everything else eligible earns 1%, capped at ₹1,000 a cycle. Nothing is earned on fuel, rent, wallet loads, jewellery, government payments, gift cards, EMI, gaming or education. Swiggy Money wallet and Swiggy Liquor is left out of the 5%.
There's no conversion step: one rupee of cashback is one rupee off your bill, and HDFC states no redemption fee and no expiry for it. That's a real edge over Millennia, which charge ₹50 plus GST each time. The welcome benefit is a 12-month Swiggy One membership on activation, and Mastercard golf adds 12 free lessons and 4 green-fee rounds a calendar year.
| Each month | Light ₹12,000 | Typical ₹30,000 | Heavy ₹70,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5% categories | ₹5,000 gives ₹250 | ₹16,000 gives ₹800 | ₹36,000 gives ₹1,500 (capped) |
| Other spends at 1% | ₹7,000 gives ₹70 | ₹14,000 gives ₹140 | ₹34,000 gives ₹340 |
| Cashback a month | ₹320 | ₹940 | ₹1,840 |
| Cashback a year | ₹3,840 | ₹11,280 | ₹22,080 |
| Fee from year two | ₹590 | Waived | Waived |
Light: ₹3,000 of food orders and ₹2,000 of Instamart earn ₹250, other spends ₹70, so ₹320 a month and ₹3,840 a year. But ₹12,000 times 12 is ₹1,44,000, just under ₹1.5 lakh, so the ₹590 fee applies and the net is ₹3,250. Put ₹500 more a month on the card and the waiver is yours.
Typical: ₹8,000 on Swiggy and Instamart, ₹6,000 on Amazon and Myntra and ₹2,000 on Uber make ₹16,000 at 5%, which is ₹800. Add ₹140 from the rest for ₹940 a month and ₹11,280 a year, fee waived.
Heavy: 5% of ₹36,000 would be ₹1,800, but the cap hold it to ₹1,500, so the last ₹6,000 is better on another card. With ₹340 from 1% spends it's ₹1,840 a month, ₹22,080 a year, inside the ₹2,500 statement limit.

Eligibility and how to get Swiggy Ornge
Ornge has the lowest income bar of the six HDFC cards we review in this section; Millennia, the next lowest, asks ₹25,000. Salaried applicants should be 21 to 60 with net monthly income above ₹20,000. For self-employed people the age band is 21 to 65 and the yearly ITR should be above ₹6 lakh. You need to be an Indian national.
HDFC doesn't publish a document list for this card, so plan on the usual identity, address and income proof; HDFC Bank customers may not have to provide them again. New applicants can apply online from the card page or at a branch. Existing Swiggy HDFC cardholder doesn't apply at all: the bank's upgrade FAQ moves them across in phases until March 2027.
How a co-brand card is decided
- HDFC, not Swiggy, decides who gets the card. Under the RBI's 2025 card Directions, the partner only markets and distributes it and cannot see your transaction data.
- HDFC is also liable for delivering the advertised cashback on time, so a missing credit is a complaint for the bank.
- The bank checks your own income and existing limits. Experian sees above 750 as generally good, CRIF above 700.
- A rejection have to come with the specific reasons in writing.
Approval is entirely HDFC's call. HDFC also issues cards against a fixed deposit, with no income proof or credit score needed, a limit of 90% of the deposit and a minimum FD of ₹15,000.

Who Swiggy Ornge suits, and who it doesn't
It's built for the person who order food two or three times a week, buys groceries on Instamart and does a fair share of shopping on Amazon, Flipkart or Myntra. For them ₹16,000 to ₹30,000 a month of 5% spends is easy, the cashback arrive without any redemption hassle, and the fee disappears from the second year. Young earners just above the ₹20,000 income bar, who can't yet get Regalia Gold, gets a lot from it.
It doesn't suit frequent travellers. HDFC lists no lounge benefit or insurance cover for Ornge, and 3.5% forex plus GST is costly price for foreign spends. Fuel users also gain nothing, as there is no surcharge waiver and no cashback on fuel.
The main trade-off is the cap. Past ₹30,000 of 5% spends in a cycle you earn nothing more there, and the total can't pass ₹2,500 a statement. So a heavy spender should split cards. Another quiet point: the 5% list follow merchant codes, so a small local pharmacy or pet shop may or may not land in the 5% category depending on how it is coded.
Pros
- 5% cashback on Swiggy food, Instamart, Dineout and a long list of online brands
- A ₹1,500 cap on 5% cashback, filled only at ₹30,000 of spends a cycle
- Cashback is credited against the statement with no redemption fee stated
- Low ₹500 fee, waived from the second year on ₹12,500 of spend a month
- Income bar of ₹20,000 a month for salaried applicants
Cons
- No lounge access listed
- 3.5% forex markup plus GST on foreign currency spends
- No fuel surcharge waiver and no cashback on fuel
- Total cashback stops at ₹2,500 a statement cycle
- The first-year fee of ₹590 with GST is not waived
Swiggy Ornge versus three food and online cashback cards
Food delivery cards come in three flavours: wide 5% lists like Ornge, short merchant lists like Millennia, and big category rates with small caps. Here's how they stacks up.
HDFC Millennia
Millennia costs ₹1,000 plus GST, waived at ₹1 lakh. Its 5% covers ten merchants including Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon and Flipkart, capped at 1,000 CashPoints a calendar month, with 1% elsewhere capped the same. It adds a ₹1,000 voucher or lounge visit on ₹1 lakh a quarter, but each statement redemption costs ₹50 plus GST.
HSBC Live+
Live+ costs ₹999 plus GST, reversed above ₹2 lakh of yearly spend. It pays 10% on dining, food delivery, grocery, shopping and utilities, capped at ₹1,200 a month, so the cap fills at ₹12,000 (₹1,200 divided by 10%). Other spends get 1.5% without cap, though Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra count at 1.5% too. Forex is 1.99%, but it needs ₹6 lakh a year salary and a listed city.
Kotak Cashback+
Cashback+ has a ₹750 plus GST fee, waived on ₹2 lakh. It gives 5% on online food delivery, online grocery and online entertainment, and 3% on fuel, all sharing a cap of ₹750 a billing cycle, with 0.5% elsewhere. Its minimum redemption goes from 100 to 500 points on 1 December 2026.
Picking between them
- Swiggy Ornge: a wide 5% list and the biggest cap of the four, ₹1,500 a cycle.
- Millennia: if you want a quarterly voucher or a lounge visit and spend ₹1 lakh a quarter.
- Live+: if dining and groceries under ₹12,000 a month and a lower forex rate matters.
- Cashback+: if you want fuel included and spend less overall.
