What the HDFC Millennia card is, and who it is for
Millennia is HDFC Bank's everyday cashback card for people who buy most things on their phone. It pays 5% on ten named merchants (Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber and Zomato) and 1% on other eligible spends. The cashback come as CashPoints, and one CashPoint is worth ₹1 against your bill. The card is active and HDFC is taking applications. Its pages don't name the card network or list any insurance cover.
Three things decide its value
- The caps. Each bucket stops at 1,000 CashPoints a calendar month, so only the first ₹20,000 of merchant spend count at 5% (₹20,000 at 5% is ₹1,000).
- The redemption fee. HDFC charge ₹50 plus GST each time you take CashPoints as statement credit.
- The quarterly milestone. ₹1 lakh of net spends in a calendar quarter earns a ₹1,000 gift voucher or one domestic lounge visit. It is the only lounge route left.
What changed from 2024 to 2026
- 1 August 2024: the ₹50 redemption fee begin, with new 1% charges on rent, big fuel and utility bills and app-paid education. From 1 September 2024 wallet loads, EMI and app-paid education stopped earning.
- 1 July 2025: the rent fee cap moved to ₹4,999 a transaction, and 1% fees arrived on wallet loads and online gaming above ₹10,000 a month.
- 15 May 2026: most HDFC points cards switched to earning per ₹200 instead of per ₹150, but Millennia's cashback rates was left as they were. The 1.75% markup on rupee payments abroad and the ₹199 reissue fee did apply to it.
Millennia fees and charges, with GST added
The joining fee and the renewal fee are ₹1,000 each, and GST is extra. At 18% that adds ₹180, so you pay ₹1,180 in any year the fee applies. HDFC levies the first-year fee on the 120th day after issue, and paying it bring 1,000 welcome CashPoints, which roughly cancels the fee but not the tax.
The waiver. Spend ₹1 lakh in the year before renewal and the next fee goes. That is about ₹8,334 a month, since ₹1,00,000 divided by 12 is ₹8,333.33. Anybody using it as main card crosses that easily, groceries and two bills does it alone.
Interest and late fee. Revolving costs 3.75% a month, or 45% a year, plus GST. Carry ₹20,000 for 30 days and the interest is about ₹740 (30 times ₹20,000 times 45%, divided by 365). The late fee runs from nil on bills up to ₹100 to ₹1,300 on bills above ₹50,000, GST extra, and it is charged only if the minimum due stay unpaid 3 days past the due date.
- Cash advance: 2.5% of the amount or ₹500, whichever is higher, with interest from the day of withdrawal.
- Forex: 3.5% plus GST. Rupee payments abroad or to merchants registered overseas carry a 1.75% markup since 15 May 2026.
- Rent: 1% a payment. Wallet loads (not PayZapp) and online gaming: 1% once the month crosses ₹10,000. Utilities: 1% when the calendar month tops ₹50,000. Each is capped at ₹4,999.
- Fuel: 1% on a single fill above ₹15,000, capped at ₹4,999. Fills of ₹400 to ₹5,000 get a 1% surcharge waiver, up to ₹250 a statement cycle.
- Education through apps such as CRED: 1%, capped at ₹4,999; paying the school directly is free.
- Add-on cards are free. Over-limit use costs 2.5%, minimum ₹550, only with your consent. A replacement card is ₹199.

How Millennia earns, and what a CashPoint is worth
It is 5% at the ten merchants and 1% elsewhere, each capped at 1,000 CashPoints a calendar month and counted in multiples of ₹100. So a ₹99 coffee earn nothing and a ₹350 order earns on ₹300. Small print: SmartBuy or PayZapp payments get only 1% even at the ten merchants, Uber gets 5% only on MCC 4121, and gift cards or vouchers never get 5%. Fuel, rent, government, wallet loads, EMI, gaming and app-paid education earn zero.
Against the statement, 1 CashPoint is ₹1, with a minimum of 500 and a maximum of 3,000 a month. On SmartBuy flights, hotels or the catalogue the same point fetch only ₹0.30. Every cashback redemption costs ₹59 (₹50 plus 18% GST), which is 11.8% of a 500-point redemption but under 2% of a 3,000-point one. Points lapse after 2 years.
| Per month | Light | Typical | Heavy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 merchants at 5% | ₹5,000 earns ₹250 | ₹12,000 earns ₹600 | ₹25,000 earns ₹1,000 (capped) |
| Other spends at 1% | ₹10,000 earns ₹100 | ₹24,000 earns ₹240 | ₹55,000 earns ₹550 |
| Yearly cashback plus vouchers | ₹4,200 | ₹14,080 | ₹22,600 |
Light, ₹15,000 a month. ₹250 plus ₹100 is ₹350 a month, or ₹4,200 a year. Quarters of ₹45,000 (₹15,000 times 3) miss the milestone, but ₹1,80,000 of yearly spend (₹15,000 times 12) clear the waiver easily. Two redemptions a year cost 2 times ₹59, or ₹118, leaving ₹4,082.
Typical, ₹36,000 a month. ₹600 plus ₹240 is ₹840 a month, or ₹10,080 a year. Each quarter is ₹1,08,000 (₹36,000 times 3), so four ₹1,000 vouchers add ₹4,000, making ₹14,080 with the fee waived.
Heavy, ₹80,000 a month. 5% of ₹25,000 would be ₹1,250, but the cap stop it at ₹1,000, so the last ₹5,000 belongs on another card. Add ₹550 from the 1% bucket: ₹1,550 a month, ₹18,600 a year, ₹22,600 with vouchers. The 3,000-a-month redemption limit forces about 7 redemptions (18,600 divided by 3,000 is 6.2), so ₹413 in fees (7 times ₹59).

Who can get the Millennia card and how to apply
Salaried applicants need to be 21 to 60 with gross monthly income above ₹25,000. Self-employed applicants should be 21 to 65 with an income tax return above ₹6 lakh a year. The eligibility section of the page show a different and much higher figure for the self-employed, but the card FAQ says ₹6 lakh. You must be an Indian national.
A second FAQ, for a 'Millennia Credit Card New', gives 21 to 40 years and ₹35,000 net monthly income, so fresh applications may face a tighter filter than the main table suggest.
HDFC does not publish a separate document list for this card. Its general guidance is identity, address and income proof; existing customers may not need them again. Apply online from the card page or at a branch; the bank's FAQ say a branch visit is not mandatory. Before you sign, ask for the one-page Key Fact Statement with the rate and charges.
What the bank looks at
- Your own income and the limits you already hold with other lenders, which the RBI's 2025 card Directions require a bank to weigh.
- Your credit score. Experian calls above 750 generally good on its 300 to 900 scale.
- No RBI rule fixes a minimum age or income. The decision is HDFC's alone, and a rejection must come with specific reasons in writing.
Millennia: eligibility and documents

| Income (salaried) | Gross Monthly Income > ₹25,000 |
| Income (self-employed) | Page reads 'Income: ₹26 lakh per annum' (probably a page error); the page FAQ says ITR > ₹6 lakh per annum |
| Other conditions | Indian nationals. The page FAQ for 'Millennia Credit Card New' gives age 21 to 40 and net monthly income > ₹35,000 (salaried) or ITR > ₹6 lakh (self-employed). |
| Documents |

Pros, cons and who Millennia suits
Mostly a card for the online crowd. The person who gain most spends ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 a month on the ten apps and crosses ₹1 lakh a quarter overall. A household that orders on Swiggy, shops on Amazon and Myntra and takes Uber to office fits the list almost exactly, and collects both the full 5% and the voucher.
Skip it if you travel abroad often: 3.5% forex plus GST erases cashback and there's no standing lounge. Skip it if rent is your largest bill, since rent earns nothing and costs 1% on top. And if one store alone takes well over ₹20,000 a month, a store card with a bigger cap suits more better.
The real trade-off is effort. Pay on the merchant's own app and not on SmartBuy, keep an eye on both caps, and batch the redemptions so the ₹59 stays small. Very much value is lost by people who redeem every 500 points the moment they arrive. Do those three things and Millennia gives a clean 5% where it counts. Ignore them and it behave like a 1% card that charges a fee.
Pros
- 5% back on ten widely used apps, worth up to ₹1,000 a month on ₹20,000 of spend
- A CashPoint is worth ₹1 against the statement, so the value is easy to read
- The ₹1,000 renewal fee is waived on ₹1 lakh of yearly spend, about ₹8,334 a month
- A ₹1,000 voucher or a domestic lounge visit for every quarter with ₹1 lakh of spends
- 1,000 welcome CashPoints when the joining fee is paid
Cons
- Every statement-credit redemption costs ₹50 plus GST
- Both cashback buckets stop at 1,000 CashPoints a calendar month
- No standing lounge access since 1 December 2023
- Foreign currency spends carry a 3.5% markup plus GST
- Fuel, rent, wallet loads and every EMI transaction earn nothing
Millennia against three similar cashback cards
All three pay about 5% online. Where it applies and how big is the cap, that is the thing which differs.
CASHBACK SBI Card
The CASHBACK SBI Card costs ₹999 plus GST and pays 5% on any online spend, capped at ₹2,000 a statement cycle, plus 1% offline capped at another ₹2,000, so ₹4,000 in all since 1 April 2026. Filling the online cap takes ₹40,000, because ₹2,000 divided by 5% is ₹40,000. Renewal is reversed on ₹2 lakh a year.
Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card
The Flipkart Axis Bank card costs ₹500 plus GST. It pays 7.5% on Myntra and 5% on Flipkart and Cleartrip, each capped at ₹4,000 a statement quarter, and 4% at Swiggy, Uber and PVR uncapped. The waiver needs ₹3.5 lakh, and its lounge visits ended on 20 June 2025.
Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank Credit Card
HDFC's own Swiggy Ornge card costs ₹500 plus GST and has a wider 5% list, the Swiggy app plus many online stores and categories, capped at ₹1,500 a billing cycle. Its 1% is capped at ₹1,000. Cashback lands on the statement with no redemption fee stated.
Who should pick which
- Millennia, if your spends sits on its ten merchants and you want the quarterly voucher.
- SBI CASHBACK, if you shop across many sites and would outrun Millennia's cap.
- Flipkart Axis, if Flipkart and Myntra are your main stores and ₹3.5 lakh a year is realistic.
- Swiggy Ornge, if food delivery and Instamart lead your month.
