White Reserve at a glance
White Reserve is Kotak's premium milestone card, a metal card that pay you in lumps each time your yearly spend crosses a line, rather than a little on every swipe. The lines start at ₹3 lakh and go up to ₹100 lakh, and what you collect is White Pass value, a rupee balance spent on Kotak's White catalogue of brand vouchers, flights and hotels.
It costs ₹12,500 plus GST to join and the same every year, with the annual fee waived once retail spends reach ₹10 lakh in a year. Some cards are held through a Kotak programme, and for those the waiver last only while the programme eligibility holds. There's no online Apply button: the card is tied to programmes such as Privy League and Private Banking, and its RuPay variant is arranged through customer care or a relationship manager. The primary network isn't named on any Kotak page we read.
What to weigh first
- Your yearly spend. At ₹10 lakh the value is ₹20,000 and the fee goes, so the card returns 2%. At ₹6 lakh you'd have only ₹5,000 against a bill of ₹14,750 with GST.
- Travel. Unlimited domestic and Priority Pass lounges for primary and add-on cards, no published spend condition, and a 2% mark-up abroad.
- Bills. The fees Kotak puts on rent, utilities, education, fuel, wallet loads and online gaming on its other cards are all waived here, a thing very few card does.
Status and recent history
The card is active. Kotak itself was barred by the RBI from issuing fresh credit cards on 24 April 2024, and the bar was lifted on 12 February 2025, so new White Reserve cards are possible again. The only dated change on the card page is guest lounge charges moving to USD 35 per visit from "01st October", with no year given, which leave readers guessing. Kotak had 48,86,687 credit cards outstanding in RBI's September 2026 table (provisional). The full range is on our Kotak Mahindra Bank credit cards page.
White Reserve fees, line by line
Joining fee ₹12,500, annual fee ₹12,500, GST extra on both. At 18% that's ₹14,750 each time (₹12,500 plus ₹2,250). Add-on cards cost nothing, and since this is a metal card the waived replacement charge is worth more than it look.
The ₹10 lakh waiver
The renewal is waived on ₹10 lakh of retail spends in a year, which is ₹83,333 a month (₹10,00,000 divided by 12). The same ₹10 lakh also crosses the second milestone, so reaching it does double work: the fee goes and ₹20,000 of value arrive. Finish the year just short of it and you pay ₹14,750 while holding only ₹5,000.
Interest and penalties
- Interest: 3.5% a month or 42% a year, Kotak's lower band, with up to 51 days interest-free when the previous bill was paid in full.
- Late payment: Kotak's standard slabs, from ₹0 when ₹100 or less is due up to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000, charged if you pay nothing or less than the minimum by the due date. On ₹30,000 outstanding it is ₹1,100.
- Cash advance: 2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500, with interest from the transaction date and 18% GST on the fee and the interest. ₹40,000 of cash costs ₹1,000 in fee (2.5% of ₹40,000) plus ₹180 of GST on it (18% of ₹1,000).
- Over-limit, card replacement and cash payment at a branch: all waived.
- Auto-debit return: waived as per the MITC, though the Key Fact Statement print 2% of the bounce amount (minimum ₹450, maximum ₹5,000). We follow the MITC, but keep the account funded anyway.
Spend fees and forex
This is the card's quiet strength. Rent, utility, education, fuel, wallet-loading and online skill-based gaming fees are all waived, where most Kotak cards charge 1% on rent and above set thresholds on the others, and the White card charges 2% on rent. The forex mark-up is 2%, and dynamic currency conversion is also 2%. On ₹2,00,000 of spends abroad that is ₹4,000 (2% of ₹2,00,000) plus GST, against ₹7,000 at Kotak's 3.5% rate.
Fuel gets a 1% surcharge waiver on fills of ₹400 to ₹7,500, up to ₹4,500 in an anniversary year as per the MITC, while the card page says calendar year. Using the full ₹4,500 would need ₹4,50,000 of fills a year (₹4,500 divided by 1%), which hardly any family spend on fuel.

How White Pass value is earned
There is no rate per ₹100 here. Kotak adds up the spends settled in each card anniversary year, and when the total crosses a step it credit a fixed rupee amount. The grid in Kotak's MITC:
| Spend reached in the year | Value added | Running total | Total as share of spend |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹3 lakh | ₹5,000 | ₹5,000 | 1.67% |
| ₹10 lakh | ₹15,000 | ₹20,000 | 2% |
| ₹20 lakh | ₹22,000 | ₹42,000 | 2.1% |
| ₹30 lakh | ₹24,000 | ₹66,000 | 2.2% |
| ₹40 lakh | ₹26,000 | ₹92,000 | 2.3% |
| ₹50 lakh | ₹28,000 | ₹1,20,000 | 2.4% |
| ₹75 lakh | ₹63,000 | ₹1,83,000 | 2.44% |
| ₹100 lakh | ₹67,000 | ₹2,50,000 | 2.5% |
The last column is the running total divided by the spend, so ₹5,000 on ₹3,00,000 is 1.67%, ₹42,000 on ₹20,00,000 is 2.1% and ₹1,83,000 on ₹75,00,000 is 2.44%. The richest slices are at the top: the ₹25 lakh from ₹75 lakh to ₹100 lakh bring ₹67,000, which is 2.68% on that extra spend (₹67,000 divided by ₹25,00,000). ₹2,50,000 is the most a year can give.
Some spends never count: personal loans, cash advances and withdrawals, fees and charges, balance transfers, EMI transactions, demand drafts and service charge transactions. Kotak's June 2025 list of merchant codes excluded from rewards may take out more, so ask Kotak which of your regular bills counts.
Spending the balance
The balance goes on Kotak's White catalogue for premium brand vouchers, flights and hotels. The card page also says it can be taken as cashback, but Kotak doesn't publish that rate for White Reserve, and no redemption fee is published either. The balance stays usable for 90 days after each anniversary cycle and then the wallet resets to zero, so a redemption plan matter. There's no welcome benefit listed; the extras are a lifestyle concierge, Club Marriott membership and 2 free golf rounds a month for the primary cardholder.
The three cases below assume all the spend counts towards the milestones.
Light: ₹50,000 a month
| Item | Working | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly spend | ₹50,000 x 12 | ₹6,00,000 |
| Highest step crossed | ₹3 lakh | ₹5,000 |
| Annual fee with GST | Below ₹10 lakh, not waived | ₹14,750 |
| Net for the year | ₹5,000 minus ₹14,750 | Minus ₹9,750 |
Another ₹4,00,000 of spend in the year would have brung ₹15,000 more and removed the fee, a swing of ₹29,750 (₹15,000 plus ₹14,750).
Typical: ₹1,00,000 a month, ₹15,000 of it abroad
| Item | Working | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly spend | ₹1,00,000 x 12 | ₹12,00,000 |
| Highest step crossed | ₹10 lakh | ₹20,000 |
| Annual fee | Above ₹10 lakh | Waived |
| Mark-up on spends abroad | ₹15,000 x 12 = ₹1,80,000, x 2% | ₹3,600 |
| Mark-up saved against 3.5% | ₹1,80,000 x 3.5% = ₹6,300, minus ₹3,600 | ₹2,700 |
From year two that's ₹20,000 of White Pass value and ₹2,700 less mark-up, while year one nets ₹5,250 after the joining fee (₹20,000 minus ₹14,750). The return is right at 2%, and it would stay there until ₹20 lakh, so extra spend between the steps earn nothing new.
Heavy: ₹4,00,000 a month
| Item | Working | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly spend | ₹4,00,000 x 12 | ₹48,00,000 |
| Highest step crossed | ₹40 lakh | ₹92,000 |
| Return on spend | ₹92,000 divided by ₹48,00,000 | 1.92% |
| Annual fee | Above ₹10 lakh | Waived |
| Gap to the ₹50 lakh step | ₹50,00,000 minus ₹48,00,000 | ₹2,00,000 more brings ₹28,000 |
This is where timing pays. Pulling ₹2,00,000 of planned spending, say a holiday booking, into the same anniversary year lift the total to ₹1,20,000, and that ₹28,000 is 14% on the extra ₹2,00,000. Year one, even with the joining fee, nets ₹77,250 (₹92,000 minus ₹14,750).

Getting a White Reserve card
Kotak doesn't publish who qualifies for White Reserve. There's no age band, no income figure, no list of cities and no Apply button online, even though the White card one step below do publish its criteria. Here is what the bank does say.
- The card is linked to Kotak programmes such as Privy League and Private Banking. If you are in one, your relationship manager is the person to ask.
- The RuPay variant is requested through customer care or your relationship manager, either at issuance or at renewal.
- Kotak's usual online route (name, phone number, PAN and Aadhaar, then Video KYC and a virtual card) is how its other cards are sold, White Reserve is not on it.
Documents
Kotak's standard list covers identity proof, age proof, address proof, income proof or employment details, and a PAN card. A programme customer may already have most of these on file with the bank, but don't assume it, ask.
How Kotak decides
Under the RBI's 2025 card Directions Kotak must assess your own financial means and count the limits you already have with other lenders. A card can be issued only with your explicit consent and unsolicited upgrades are banned, so White Reserve should reach you as an offer you accept, never as a card that simply arrive in the post. If you're refused, the bank has to give the reasons in writing, and approval stays Kotak's decision.
One rule is specific to this card. Kotak lets a customer hold only one active White or White Reserve card, and no White Pass value is given if more than one is held. If you already carry White, ask to change the card rather than applying for a second. Kotak's 24x7 card line is 1800 4100; more contacts are on our Kotak customer care page.

Who White Reserve suits
This is a card for people whose yearly card bill runs into tens of lakhs. From ₹10 lakh up the fee disappears and every step returns 2% or more, climbing to 2.5% at ₹100 lakh, while rent, utility, education and fuel payments go through without the 1% or 2% that other Kotak cards adds. A family that pays school fees, rent and holidays on one card gets both things together.
Frequent flyers also gain. Unlimited lounges extend to add-on cards, so a couple or a family travelling together all walk in, which can be worth more to some households than the milestones themselves.
Skip it below ₹10 lakh. ₹5,000 of value against ₹14,750 is a loss, and lounges alone rarely justify that. Skip it if you want cash, since the cashback rate is unpublished. And if you tend to forget dates, the 90-day window after each anniversary is a real risk, because unused balance is not carrying into the next year.
Trade-offs
The card rewards bunching your spends. A big purchase that posts just before the anniversary can cross a step; the same purchase a week later start the next year's count from zero. Between the steps your extra spend earns nothing, so a year ending at ₹19 lakh pays the same as one at ₹10 lakh. Against that, there are no category rules to learn, no per-transaction caps, and the fee waiver comes free with the second step.
Pros
- Milestone value rises to ₹2,50,000 at ₹100 lakh of yearly spends, a 2.5% return
- Annual fee waived on ₹10 lakh of retail spends a year
- Unlimited domestic and international lounge visits for primary and add-on cardholders
- Rent, utility, education, fuel, wallet and gaming fees all waived
- Over-limit, card replacement and branch cash payment charges waived
- 2% forex mark-up against 3.5% on most Kotak cards
Cons
- No White Pass value at all until spends reach ₹3 lakh in the anniversary year
- ₹12,500 plus GST to join, and the same every year below ₹10 lakh of spends
- Unused White Pass balance lapses 90 days after each anniversary cycle
- Cashback redemption rate not published for White Reserve
- No published eligibility and no online application
- Insurance covers not published
White Reserve against three cards in the same fee band
All four cost about ₹12,500 a year, so the choice comes down to how each one pay you back. The table on this tab shows fees, lounges and forex in a row; the notes below cover the earn.
HDFC Bank Infinia Metal
The HDFC Infinia Metal is invite-only, with a joining and renewal fee of ₹12,500 plus taxes, the renewal waived on ₹10 lakh of spends in the 12 months before the renewal date. It earns 5 reward points per ₹150, and up to 10X on HDFC's SmartBuy portal within 15,000 accelerated points a month. HDFC's own page that we read gave no point value; a Business Standard report put it at ₹1 on SmartBuy flights and hotels. Lounges are unlimited for primary and add-on cards in India and abroad, and the mark-up is 2%.
ICICI Bank Emeralde Private Metal
The Emeralde Private Metal is also by invitation and tied to your ICICI relationship, at ₹12,499 plus GST, with that year's fee reversed once you spend ₹10 lakh in it (the card page words it as a waiver for the next year). It earns 6 points per ₹200, and a point is worth ₹1 on flights, hotel vouchers and select brands, ₹0.6 on other catalogue items and ₹0.4 as statement credit. It also gives 12,500 points when the joining and annual fees are paid, unlimited lounges for primary and add-on cards, and a 2% mark-up.
Axis Bank Magnus
The Axis Magnus costs ₹12,500 plus GST, waived only at ₹25 lakh of eligible spends. It earns 12 EDGE REWARD points per ₹200 up to ₹1.5 lakh a month and 35 per ₹200 above that, with 5X on Travel EDGE, and moves points to airline and hotel partners at 5 points to 2 miles. Priority Pass lounges abroad are unlimited, but domestic visits need ₹50,000 of spends in the previous 3 months. Axis asks ₹24 lakh a year of income, and the mark-up is 2%.
Which way to go
At ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh a year, a points card usually pays more. ₹12 lakh on Emeralde Private Metal earns 36,000 points (₹12,00,000 divided by 200, times 6), worth ₹36,000 on flights and hotels before its exclusions and category caps, against White Reserve's ₹20,000, if you can get the invitation. White Reserve pulls level higher up, where its steps get richer, and it is the only one here that waive rent, utility and fuel fees. Magnus suit very heavy monthly spenders who transfer to airlines, and Infinia suits HDFC customers who book through SmartBuy. Lighter spenders should look at Kotak's own Kotak White card, or browse airport lounge cards and the credit cards hub.
