Chola One is real. It's the lending app run by Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited, a Chennai NBFC on RBI's register, and Chola lends the money itself. No unnamed partner sits between you and the lender.

Whether it's safe is a different question. The lender is regulated, but the price needs care. Interest on the Play listing runs from 14% up to 36% yearly, and Chola keeps a fee of 4% to 6% before payout. Before you accept, find one line in the Key Fact Statement (KFS): the net amount that will reach your bank.

Quick answer

  • Real company: Chola, part of the Murugappa Group and incorporated in 1978, owns and runs Chola One.
  • RBI registered: Chola sits in the Upper layer of RBI's register of NBFCs as on 30 September 2026.
  • Lends directly: CholaOne App is listed by name on Chola's digital lending partners page.
  • Not cheap: Play shows rates of 14% to 36% and an APR of up to 45%. A fee of 4% to 6% plus GST comes on top.
  • Service gaps: recent reviews complain about slow payouts and emails nobody answers.

Who is behind Chola One, and whose money is it?

Chola One belongs to Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited, usually just called Chola. The company was set up in 1978 as the finance arm of the Murugappa Group. It says it works from 1098 branches across India.

Here, the app owner and the lender are the same company. Chola's FAQ says it "developed and owned" the app. Its digital lending page then lists CholaOne App under the lender's own name. Many small loan apps work another way: a tech firm runs the app, and an NBFC you've never heard of lends.

The app has two jobs. New users can apply for a personal loan. Existing customers use it to manage other Chola loans, such as business, home and property loans. That's why some Play reviews are about other Chola loans, not personal loans.

Chola also lends through other apps. For personal loans, its partner list names BankBazaar, KreditBee, Stashfin, Freo, Navi, MoneyView and Fibe. A Chola loan taken on one of those apps follows that platform's journey, not Chola One's.

Watch the names, too. Cholamandalam Financial Holdings is a separate holding company in RBI's list. Chola Connect, Chola PRO and Gaadi Bazaar are other Chola apps, not this loan app.

Is Chola One RBI registered? Five checks you can do yourself

You don't have to take our word for it. Here is how we checked, step by step.

  1. Search RBI's NBFC list. Open the list of registered NBFCs on the RBI website and look for "Cholamandalam Investment and Finance". We found it at serial number 1547, under the Chennai office, in the register as on 30 September 2026.
  2. Match the company number. RBI's list gives the CIN L65993TN1978PLC007576. The same number is printed at the foot of Chola's website.
  3. Read the lender's own page. Chola's Digital Lending Partners page names CholaOne App as its own app. It also lists the partner apps it uses.
  4. Try RBI's app directory. The RBI home page links to a directory of digital lending apps. It wouldn't load for us on 4 November 2026, so we couldn't see the listing there.
  5. Check the Play developer. The real app is published by Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company Limited, with a Chola Crest, Guindy, Chennai address. Inside the app, read the sanction letter and KFS before you sign.

Our guide to checking whether a loan app is RBI approved covers the same checks for any app.

Chola One interest rate, fees and charges

Chola publishes its terms in three places, and they don't fully agree. The table shows each figure and where we read it, as of November 2026.

So what does that mean in rupees? Take ₹1,00,000 over 24 months at 18%, the rate in Chola's own Play example, with the lowest 4% fee. The fee and GST come to ₹4,720, so about ₹95,280 reaches your bank. The EMI is about ₹4,992, and you repay ₹1,19,818 in all.

At the top of the policy range, the picture changes fast. At 30% with a 6% fee, the same loan's EMI rises to about ₹5,591, and only ₹92,920 arrives. Your offer will sit somewhere in that band, so the KFS figure is the only one that counts.

Two more rules are easy to miss. Chola's standard loan terms want written notice at least 21 days before you close a loan early. You can leave without a foreclosure charge only in the cooling-off period stated in your loan schedule.

Why some people say Chola One is fake

Most "fake" claims come from service problems, not fraud. Still, a few things on Chola's own pages can confuse a careful borrower.

  • Rates that don't match. Play says up to 36%, but Chola's policy caps these loans at 30%. The website calculator also puts 2.25% a month next to 14% a year.
  • A sample that doesn't add up. In Chola's sample on Play, a ₹3,00,000 loan carries total charges of ₹10,846. A 4% to 6% fee on that amount would be higher.
  • A wrong download button. On Chola's own Chola One page, the download pop-up points to the Gaadi Bazaar app instead. Search Google Play by name and developer.
  • A permission mismatch. On Google Play, the app's Data safety section lists SMS as data that may go to other companies. Chola's privacy policy says it reads SMS only to catch OTPs.
  • A sharp rise in complaints. Chola's annual report shows 21,036 customer complaints across all its loans in the year to March 2026, up from 5,113 a year before.

None of this makes the app fake. Chola is a large, registered NBFC, and we found no RBI penalty on it in our searches. These are reasons to read every number before you accept.

What borrowers say about Chola One

On 4 November 2026, Chola One rated 4.0 on Google Play from 42.7K reviews, with 10L+ downloads. The iOS app rated 3.4 from 336 ratings. The Play app was last updated on 22 October 2026.

The newest reviews, from October and early November 2026, split sharply. Many five-star posts are one or two words, like "good" or "nice". Some thank a named staff member, which can mean an agent asked for the review. A few five-star ratings even carry complaint text.

The one-star reviews are longer and more specific. People describe payouts stuck after approval and less money credited than they expected. Others mention bounce charges after paying on time, repeated reminder calls and slow foreclosure letters or NOCs. These are user reports, and we couldn't check each one, but the same themes keep coming back.

How to spot a fake Chola One app, agent or call

Big lenders get copied a lot, and Chola says so itself. Its public notice warns that people pretending to be Chola or Murugappa Group staff send fake sanction letters and ask for deposits or fees.

  • No upfront fee in cash or to a person. Chola says it never asks customers to pay a processing fee in cash or into an individual's bank account. The real fee shows up in your KFS, not as a side payment.
  • No OTP, PIN or password. Chola says it will never ask for these. Anyone who does is not Chola.
  • Check the caller's number. Chola's awareness poster says official calls from banks and NBFCs come from numbers starting with 1600.
  • Only the Play app. Install Chola One from Google Play, published by Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company Limited. Ignore APK files sent on WhatsApp or SMS.
  • Check any collection agent. Chola publishes a D2C collection agency list. Ask an agent for the agency's name and match it before you pay anything.
  • Repay only through official routes. Use the app or the auto-debit you set up, never a personal UPI ID.

Should you use Chola One?

It can suit you in a few cases:

  • You're salaried, a professional or a sole proprietor and want a lender with a long record.
  • You already have a Chola loan and see a pre-approved offer in the app.
  • You need ₹10,000 to ₹3 lakh and want up to 60 months to repay.

Look elsewhere in these cases:

  • You have a strong credit score and want a smaller fee.
  • You might close the loan early, since foreclosure costs 4% of what's left.
  • You need quick answers from support.

For a second quote from a big lender, compare Bajaj Finserv, Tata Capital or SMFG India Credit. For our scores, read our full Chola One review, or browse all our loan app reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Is Chola One real or fake?

Chola One is real. Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited, a Murugappa Group company set up in 1978, owns the app and lends through it. Chola's lending partners page lists CholaOne App under its own name. Fakes do exist, mostly as impostor calls and sanction letters. So install only from Google Play and never pay a fee to a person.

Is Chola One approved by RBI?

RBI registers lenders rather than approving each app. Chola One's lender, Cholamandalam Investment and Finance, appears at serial 1547 in RBI's register of NBFCs as on 30 September 2026. We couldn't open RBI's app directory, so check it yourself. Also confirm that your KFS names Chola as the lender.

What is the real cost of a Chola One loan?

The Play listing shows 14% to 36% a year, while Chola's policy gives 10% to 30%. On top sits a processing fee of 4% to 6%, with 18% GST, taken from the payout. A ₹1,00,000 loan at 18% for 24 months costs about ₹19,818 in interest. Late EMIs draw 30% a year on the overdue sum.

What is the Chola One customer care number?

Call 1800 102 4565 or 1800 123 4565, both free to dial. The lines are open Monday to Saturday between 9:30 am and 6:30 pm. The Play listing also gives a separate support email for personal loans. Never use a number from a search ad or a WhatsApp forward. Our care page lists every contact Chola publishes.

What should I do about harassment or fake calls in Chola's name?

First check the number. Chola says official bank and NBFC calls start with 1600, and it never asks for an OTP or PIN. For rude or repeated recovery calls, complain to Chola in writing and escalate to the Grievance Redressal Officer. If you lost money to an impostor, call 1930 at once.

How do I close or cancel a Chola One loan?

To close early, give Chola written notice at least 21 days ahead. You then pay the principal, any interest due and a 4% charge on what's left. To exit without that charge, use the cooling-off period in your loan schedule. Afterwards, ask for a no dues letter, since reviewers say these can take time.

Why did I get less money than my Chola One loan amount?

The fee and GST come out of the loan, which is why Chola works out its APR on the net amount paid to you. With a 4% fee, a ₹1,00,000 loan pays out about ₹95,280. Some reviewers also mention insurance added to the loan. Chola is a registered insurance agent too, so check the KFS for any add-on before you accept the offer.
