Chola One is the personal loan app of Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company, a Murugappa Group NBFC registered with RBI, so the money comes from Chola itself rather than a partner. The catch is price: the 14% headline is only a floor, Chola's Play listing runs to 36% a year, and a 4% to 6% fee plus GST comes off before the loan reaches you. We read Chola's own pages, its rate and charges policy, the loan terms, the app's Google Play listing and its newest reviews. Here's what a Chola One loan of ₹10,000 to ₹3 lakh really involves as of November 2026, and where the fine print bites.

Our Ratings

Disbursal speed 3.0/5

Chola advertises a loan in 15 minutes, but its own FAQ allows more than 24 hours and recent reviewers describe waits of days.

Interest & cost 2.5/5

The 14% floor looks fair, but rates run to 36% on Play and a 4% to 6% fee plus GST is taken upfront.

App experience 2.5/5

The application is fully digital, yet recent reviews report the app freezing, wrong loan details and payments not showing.

Customer support 2.0/5

Toll-free lines and a clear escalation ladder exist, but reviewers report unanswered emails and slow foreclosure letters and NOCs.

Safety & transparency 4.0/5

An Upper layer NBFC lends directly and names the app itself, though rate figures conflict and RBI's app directory was unreadable.

Loan Details & Charges

Loan Amount ₹10,000 to ₹3,00,000
Interest Rate 14% to 36% a year
Tenure 3 months to 60 months
Processing Fee 4% to 6% + GST
Late Payment Penal charges of 30% a year on the amount under default, from the due date to the date of payment (CholaOne D2C column of Chola's Interest Rate Policy).
Foreclosure 4% of the principal outstanding (D2C column); standard loan terms ask for 21 days' written notice; no preclosure charge if you exit within the cooling-off period stated in your loan schedule.
Bounce Charges Up to ₹1,000 per cheque or mandate bounce; mandate rejection up to ₹500; mandate swap up to ₹500 + GST (D2C column). Chola's branch CSEL personal loans charge up to ₹1,500 per bounce.

Eligibility Criteria

Age 21-58 years
Min Income ₹15,000 per month
Employment salaried, professionals (CA, CS, CMA, doctors), self-employed sole proprietors
Documents PAN, Aadhaar with linked mobile, photo, 6 months' bank statement (DigiLocker accepted); business proof (GST, ITR, IEC or FSSAI) for self-employed; registration or education proof for professionals

What It Actually Costs

Loan amount ₹1,00,000
Tenure 24 months
Monthly EMI ₹4,992
Total interest ₹19,818
Processing fee ₹4,000 + 18% GST = ₹4,720, deducted upfront
Total repayment ₹1,19,818

Illustrative: 18% is the rate in Chola's own Play example and 4% is its lowest published fee, so about ₹95,280 reaches your bank. At the policy's 30% cap with a 6% fee, the EMI would be ₹5,591 and you'd receive ₹92,920.

Try the Chola One (Cholamandalam) EMI calculator

Pros

  • The lender is Cholamandalam itself, an Upper layer NBFC on RBI's register, not an unnamed partner
  • Chola's own digital lending page names CholaOne as its app, so the lender link is easy to confirm
  • Loans of ₹10,000 to ₹3 lakh with repayment over 3 to 60 months
  • A published complaint ladder: toll-free lines, Head Customer Service, then a named grievance officer
  • Chola publishes fraud warnings and a D2C collection agency list, so you can check a caller or agent

Cons

  • Play lists 14% to 36% a year, but Chola's rate policy caps these loans at 30%, so only the KFS counts
  • A 4% to 6% processing fee plus 18% GST comes off the loan before payout
  • Foreclosure costs 4% of the principal still owed, and the loan terms ask for 21 days' written notice
  • Penal charges of 30% a year on overdue sums, plus up to ₹1,000 for each bounced EMI
  • Recent reviewers report slow payouts, unanswered emails and long waits for foreclosure letters

Our Verdict

Chola One is real and regulated. Cholamandalam sits in the Upper layer of RBI's NBFC list, it owns and runs the app, and its own digital lending page names CholaOne as its app. That settles the biggest worry with loan apps, which is not knowing who holds your loan. Existing Chola customers also use the same app to manage home, business and property loans. Cost is harder to pin down. The Play listing quotes 14% to 36% a year and an APR of up to 45%, yet Chola's own rate policy caps these loans at 30%. The 4% to 6% fee is steep for a lender this size, foreclosure costs 4% of the principal you still owe, and a late EMI draws penal charges of 30% a year on the overdue sum. Service is the weak spot. Recent reviews describe slow payouts, unanswered emails and long waits for foreclosure letters, and Chola's annual report shows complaints across all its loans rising to 21,036 in the year to March 2026. Take a Chola One loan only after reading the KFS rate, fee and net amount, and keep every request in writing.

Who Chola One (Cholamandalam) suits

Salaried people, professionals or sole proprietors who want a loan from a large regulated NBFC
Existing Chola customers who see a pre-approved offer and already manage loans in the app
Borrowers who want ₹10,000 to ₹3 lakh repaid over a longer tenure, up to 60 months
People who will read the KFS closely and can absorb a 4% to 6% upfront fee

Look elsewhere if

You have a strong credit score and want a small fee, since several big lenders charge less upfront
You may close the loan early, because foreclosure costs 4% of what's still owed
You need quick, responsive support, which recent reviewers say Chola often doesn't give

Things to Watch

  • Rate figures clash: 14% to 36% on Google Play, 10% to 30% in Chola's rate policy, and a site calculator that pairs 2.25% a month with 14% a year
  • Chola's own Play example shows ₹10,846 of charges on a ₹3,00,000 loan, less than its stated 4% to 6% fee would come to, so read your own fee line
  • The Play Data safety form says SMS may be shared with third parties and installed apps are collected, while the privacy policy says SMS is read only for OTPs
  • Customer complaints across all Chola loans rose from 5,113 to 21,036 in the year to March 2026, led by collections, disbursal and foreclosure issues
  • Fake Chola sanction letters and fee demands circulate; Chola says it never takes loan fees in cash or into a personal account

What Real Users Say

Checked on 4 November 2026. The iOS app rates 3.4 from 336 ratings. Many recent five-star Play reviews are one or two words, some name the staff who helped, and a few five-star ratings carry complaint text, so the 4.0 average flatters the service.

Chola One rates 4.0 on Google Play from 42.7K reviews, but the newest reviews split sharply between short five-star posts and detailed one-star complaints. Some reviewers are existing Chola customers writing about other loans, such as a vehicle loan or a phone bought on EMI.

What users love

Happy reviewers say the process is easy and fully digital, the money helped in an emergency, and some thank named staff for their help.

Common complaints

Payouts stuck after approval, less money credited than the sanctioned amount, higher interest or insurance than expected, bounce and overdue charges even after paying, repeated reminder calls, unanswered emails, and slow foreclosure letters and NOCs.

How Chola One (Cholamandalam) Compares

vs Bajaj Finserv — Another large NBFC with its own app; compare its fee and foreclosure terms with your Chola One KFS before choosing.

vs Tata Capital — A big, long-running NBFC worth a second quote if the rate Chola offers you comes back near the top of its range.

vs SMFG India Credit — A regulated NBFC with app-based personal loans, useful as a side-by-side quote for salaried borrowers.

How we tested

Checked in November 2026. On 4 November we read the Chola One page and FAQs, its loan terms and privacy policy, Chola's rate and charges policy, grievance page and fraud notices, plus the Google Play listing, its Data safety page and the newest dated reviews. We found Cholamandalam in RBI's NBFC list as on 30 September 2026 through an archived copy. RBI's Digital Lending Apps directory would not load, and we didn't take a loan or see a KFS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Chola One safe and RBI registered?
Yes. Chola One is owned and run by Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company, which appears in RBI's NBFC list as on 30 September 2026 as an Upper layer NBFC. Chola lends to you directly, and its own digital lending page names CholaOne as its app. Safe also means affordable, so read the KFS for the rate, APR and fee before you accept any offer.
What does a Chola One personal loan really cost?
The Play listing quotes interest of 14% to 36% a year and an APR of 14.5% to 45%. Chola's rate policy gives 10% to 30% for these loans, so the two don't match. A 4% to 6% processing fee plus 18% GST is deducted upfront. On ₹1,00,000 at 18% for 24 months with a 4% fee, the EMI is about ₹4,992.
How much can I borrow on Chola One and for how long?
The Play listing and the Chola One page both say ₹10,000 to ₹3 lakh, though one FAQ answer mentions up to ₹5 lakh. Repayment runs from 3 to 60 months in monthly EMIs. You can hold only one Chola One loan at a time, and if you're rejected you can reapply after three months, according to Chola's own FAQ.
Who is eligible for a Chola One loan and what documents do I need?
Indian citizens who are salaried, professionals such as CAs and doctors, or sole proprietors can apply. Chola's pages give different limits: ages 21 to 58 for new customers on Play, a minimum salary of ₹15,000 in the FAQ. You'll need PAN, Aadhaar with a linked mobile, a photo and 6 months of bank statements.
What is the Chola One customer care number?
Chola's toll-free numbers are 1800 102 4565 and 1800 123 4565, open Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. You can also raise a request in the app or email customer care. If a complaint isn't resolved in 10 days, escalate to the Head Customer Service, then the Grievance Redressal Officer, and after 30 days to the RBI Ombudsman.
Can I close a Chola One loan early?
Yes, but it costs money. Chola's rate policy sets a 4% charge on the principal still outstanding for CholaOne personal loans, and the loan terms ask for written notice at least 21 days ahead. The one free exit is the cooling-off period named in your loan schedule, when you repay the principal and proportionate APR only.
How do I file a complaint against Chola One (Cholamandalam)?
Work the escalation ladder in order. First, raise the complaint with Chola One (Cholamandalam) support (customercare@chola.murugappa.com) and insist on a written complaint reference number — a call with no reference number effectively did not happen. If it is unresolved, escalate to the grievance redressal officer at gro@chola1.murugappa.com. The regulated entity has 30 days to resolve it. After that, you can complain free of cost to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in — no lawyer is needed, and the decision is binding on the lender.
How do I stop harassment calls from Chola One (Cholamandalam) recovery agents?
RBI's rules on recovery conduct are specific: agents may not call before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m., may not use threats, abuse or intimidation, and may not contact people from your phonebook to shame you. Blanket access to your contacts and photos is prohibited for digital lenders. If this is happening, save the evidence — call logs, screenshots, recordings — and complain to the lender's grievance officer (gro@chola1.murugappa.com), then to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in if it continues. If the app is not a regulated entity at all, report it on the RBI Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in) and to the cyber-crime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in. Harassment, morphed images and contact-list shaming are criminal offences regardless of whether you owe money.
