IIFL Finance Loan App Real or Fake? What It Lends Now and Costs
By Rashmi Mandana · Content Writer Edited by BankCreds Content & SEO Team Updated 4 November 2026 Reviewed by BankCreds Financial Experts The IIFL Finance loan app is real. It belongs to IIFL Finance Limited, a big RBI-registered NBFC, and the money comes from IIFL itself, not a hidden partner. Today the app is mostly for gold loans and small business loans.
Here is the catch most people miss. IIFL's fee page carries a short note: personal loans were dropped with effect from 16 February 2024. So if a caller offers you an "IIFL personal loan" for a fee, stop and check. Real and safe are two different questions, and this guide answers both, as of November 2026.
Quick answer
- Real company: IIFL Finance Limited sits in RBI's NBFC list at entry 3077, as on 30 September 2026.
- Own lender: the app on Google Play is "IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan", and its developer is IIFL Finance Limited.
- No new personal loans: IIFL ended them from 16 February 2024; only staff loans carry on.
- Mainly gold loans: ₹3,000 to ₹30 lakh, repaid within 12 to 24 months, priced from 9.72% up to 27% a year.
- Not spotless: RBI halted its new gold loans in March 2024 and fined it twice in 2026.
Who runs the IIFL Finance app and who lends the money
IIFL Finance Limited runs the app and lends the money. That's simpler than most loan apps, where a tech firm runs the app and a separate NBFC lends. Here the brand, the app owner and the lender are one company.
The same app goes by three names, which confuses people:
- Google Play: "IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan", package com.iifl.mobile.hfc, developer IIFL Finance Limited
- App Store: "IIFL: Gold & Business Loans", with IIFL as developer
- IIFL's website: the "IIFL Loans Mobile App", for gold, SME and home loan customers
The IIFL name also covers other firms. IIFL Home Finance is a separate housing finance company, at entry 3078 in RBI's list. IIFL Samasta Finance, entry 3079, is a microfinance company.
IIFL Capital, listed as a group company, is a separate business too. If your loan papers name one of these, it's a different lender from the one we cover here.
IIFL also works with referral partners for gold loans. Its gold loan partners page names Google Pay, PhonePe Lending Services, Tata Digital, Bajaj Finserv Direct, Buddy Loan, Freo and ABCD. These apps may send you to IIFL, but IIFL Finance still makes the loan.
Is IIFL Finance RBI registered? How we checked
Yes. Here is how we checked on 4 November 2026, so you can repeat it yourself.
- Find the lender's full name. Your sanction letter should name the lender in full. The Play listing shows IIFL Finance Limited as developer.
- Open RBI's list of registered NBFCs. We used the list as on 30 September 2026, dated 15 October 2026.
- Match the entry. IIFL Finance Limited is entry 3077, under RBI's Mumbai office, as a non-deposit-taking investment and credit company in the Middle Layer. Its CIN is L67100MH1995PLC093797.
- Check that the lender names the app. IIFL's website has a page for its loans app and links straight to the Play package com.iifl.mobile.hfc.
- Try RBI's Digital Lending Apps directory. It timed out for us, so this check stayed open. Try it yourself before you sign.
- Search RBI press releases. This is where IIFL's record shows up, and it matters, so it gets its own section below.
Our step-by-step guide to checking any loan app with RBI walks through each of these screens.
What an IIFL Finance gold loan costs
A gold loan is secured. You hand over gold jewellery, and IIFL lends against its value. IIFL says you can borrow up to 75% of the market value. It values your gold at the average 22-carat rate over the past 30 days.
Here are the terms as published, as of November 2026:
Term | What IIFL publishes | Where we saw it |
|---|---|---|
Amount | ₹3,000 to ₹30 lakh, extra checks above ₹30 lakh | Google Play listing |
Tenure | 12 to 24 months | Play and App Store listings |
Interest | 9.72% to 27% a year, by scheme | IIFL gold loan rates page |
APR | 11.88% to 27% | Google Play listing |
Processing fee | Up to 2% plus GST, from zero on some schemes | IIFL rates page |
Late payment | 0.5% a month (6% a year) on the overdue amount | IIFL rates page |
Foreclosure | Nil, but at least 7 days of interest if closed within 7 days | IIFL rates page |
Part payment | Nil | IIFL rates page |
Other charges | ₹500 mark-to-market, ₹5 a quarter for SMS, ₹200 per overdue notice, ₹1,500 auction charge | IIFL fee table, updated August 2026 |
Notice the two starting rates. IIFL's rates page says 9.72%, but the same page's headline, the Play listing and the App Store say 11.88%. The rate in your sanction letter is the one that counts.
IIFL's Play listing gives a worked example. Say you borrow ₹3,00,000 at 12% a year, for 12 months. You pay ₹3,000 interest each month and return the ₹3,00,000 at the end. Interest comes to ₹36,000, the fee is ₹531 (₹450 plus GST), and the total is ₹3,36,531.
At the 27% top rate, the same loan would cost ₹81,000 in interest, or ₹6,750 a month. The full 2% fee would be ₹7,080 with GST. So ask which scheme you're on before you sign.
Why some people think IIFL Finance is fake
IIFL is not a fake lender. But a few real problems make people nervous, and you should know them.
- RBI stopped its gold lending in 2024. On 4 March 2024, RBI ordered IIFL to stop giving new gold loans. RBI faulted how gold purity and weight were tested, and found loan-to-value breaches. It also cited cash far above the legal limit, auction lapses and unclear charges.
- We found no lifting notice. We searched RBI's website and found no notice ending that order. Still, IIFL's own fee table covers gold loans paid out from 1 April 2026, so it is lending gold again.
- Two fines in 2026. RBI fined IIFL ₹5.30 lakh by an order of 6 February 2026, for not marking some restructured loans as bad loans. A second fine, ₹3.10 lakh on 11 May 2026, was for not paying some borrowers the extra money left after their gold was auctioned.
- Old personal loan pages. IIFL's personal loan pages still show rates and an Apply Now form. They even give two rate bands, 12.75% to 44% and 12% to 28%. The fee page says the product ended in 2024.
- A thin data safety form. Play's form says the app collects only photos. Yet IIFL's privacy policy admits to reading money-related SMS, plus the name and number of any contact you choose as a reference.
A fine is not fraud. RBI says its penalties don't judge the validity of customer agreements. Still, the 2026 auction fine tells you to check your account closely if you ever fall behind.
What's normal? A branch visit to test your gold, KYC with Aadhaar and PAN, and a small credit check fee on some new loans. None of those is a warning sign.
What borrowers say about IIFL Finance
On 4 November 2026, the Play app showed 4.7 stars from 1.37L reviews (137,208 ratings) and 50L+ downloads. It was last updated on 22 October 2026. On the App Store, it had 4.6 stars from 12k ratings.
We read the latest 400 Play reviews, from 3 October to 3 November 2026. Of those, 326 gave five stars and 43 gave one star. But 123 of the five-star posts were three words or fewer.
Some five-star posts look planted. 27 praised IIFL home loans, even though this app sells gold and MSME loans. Lines like "IIFL home loan bilkul best option." appeared under more than one name. So read the written complaints, not just the stars.
The complaints were mostly about servicing gold loans:
- wrong EMI amounts after an update, and no way to pay a custom amount
- no UPI option inside the app
- top-up and renewal buttons that don't work, so you still visit a branch
- closed gold loans with no closure letter in the app
- gold release taking 1 to 2 days, though the loan itself took 20 to 30 minutes for one reviewer
- SMS charges, even though the app says "no hidden charges"
- reminders for a business loan that the app didn't show (188 people found that review helpful)
We saw no reports of harassment by recovery agents in this sample.
How to spot a fake IIFL Finance app, agent or call
IIFL's own fraud advisory warns about fake loan ads and emails. They use names like "IIFL Loans" or "IIFL Loan desk" and ask for a processing fee or stamp duty first. IIFL's own app is also called the IIFL Loans app, so a name alone proves nothing. Use these checks:
- Get the app from the store only. On Google Play, the developer must read IIFL Finance Limited. Never install an APK sent on WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS.
- Never pay upfront. IIFL says it never asks for extra fees during the loan process. Its charges come out of the loan account.
- Check the bank account. IIFL says a payment request to an account in a person's name is not genuine. A personal UPI ID or QR code is a red flag too.
- Check the email. IIFL says real emails end in iifl.com. You can ask reach@iifl.com to confirm an ad is genuine.
- Know IIFL's calling numbers. IIFL says its service and transaction calls come from the 1600413309 number series.
- Be wary of "personal loan" offers. IIFL says it stopped personal loans in February 2024. A caller selling one in IIFL's name needs checking first.
What to do if something goes wrong
Keep screenshots, your loan account number and any letters. Then go up this ladder:
- Call the helpline. Ring 1860-267-3000 or 7039-050-000. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 9:30 am to 4 pm.
- Write by product. Gold loan complaints go to gold-helpline@iifl.com. Business loan complaints use the raise-a-request form on IIFL's website.
- Go to the nodal officers. Write to Ms. Sarika Pachbhai (north and east) or Ms. Neelam Kadam (west and south) at nodalofficer@iifl.com, or call +91 22-62066499. IIFL promises a reply within 15 days.
- Escalate to the Principal Nodal Officer. Mr. Suresh M is on pno@iifl.com and +91 22-41035099, with call charges as applicable.
- Go to RBI. No fix after 30 days? File on cms.rbi.org.in, RBI's Integrated Ombudsman portal, or call 14448.
- Report fraud fast. If a fake agent took money, call the cybercrime helpline on 1930.
Our IIFL Finance customer care page keeps these contacts in one place. Our list of lender helplines covers other apps too.
Should you use IIFL Finance?
IIFL Finance may suit you if:
- you own 18K to 22K gold jewellery and need ₹3,000 to ₹30 lakh
- your credit history is thin, since IIFL says a score may not always be needed for gold loans
- you'd rather pay interest monthly and return the principal at the end
- a branch is close enough to visit for the gold check
Look elsewhere if:
- you want an unsecured personal loan, because IIFL no longer offers one to the public
- you can't get to a branch for valuation, top-ups or release
- you might miss payments, since penal interest, notices and auction charges stack up
For another gold loan, compare Muthoot FinCorp and Oro Money. If you need a personal loan without gold, Tata Capital is a large regulated NBFC that still offers one. Scores and full terms are in our full IIFL Finance review.
Frequently asked questions
Is the IIFL Finance loan app real or fake?
It's real. The Play Store listing, "IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan", is published by IIFL Finance Limited, and the company lends the money itself. It's a registered NBFC with a long fee table and a public complaint ladder. The app is mainly for gold and business loans now, not personal loans.
Is IIFL Finance RBI registered?
Yes. IIFL Finance Limited is entry 3077 in RBI's list of registered NBFCs as on 30 September 2026, under the Mumbai office. It's a non-deposit-taking investment and credit company. RBI did act against it: it halted new gold loans in March 2024 and fined the company in February and May 2026.
What does an IIFL Finance gold loan really cost?
IIFL lists 9.72% to 27% a year, and its Play listing puts the APR at 11.88% to 27%. Processing costs up to 2%, plus GST. Take IIFL's sample loan: borrow ₹3,00,000 at 12% for a year, and you pay ₹36,000 interest and a ₹531 fee. Small add-ons like SMS and mark-to-market charges come on top.
Can I get an IIFL Finance personal loan?
Not as a new customer. IIFL's fee schedule notes the end of personal loans from 16 February 2024, except loans to its staff. Old pages still show rates and an Apply Now form, which adds to the confusion. If someone offers you an IIFL personal loan, call IIFL first and never pay a fee upfront.
What is the IIFL Finance customer care number?
Call 1860-267-3000, or the second line, 7039-050-000. Both are open Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 9:30 am to 4 pm, but not on Sundays or holidays. Gold loan customers can also write to gold-helpline@iifl.com. Check any other "IIFL number" against IIFL's own site first.
What should I do about fake IIFL calls or harassment?
Don't pay a caller, and don't share an OTP. IIFL says its service calls come from the 1600413309 number series, and fraud calls can be reported on the government's Chakshu platform. If calls about a real loan turn abusive, write to the nodal officers. If someone threatens you or takes money, call 1930.
How do I close an IIFL Finance gold loan?
You can close it at any time without a foreclosure charge. IIFL does charge at least 7 days of interest if you close within 7 days. Part payments are free too. Some reviewers say gold release can take a day or two, so ask the branch for a closure letter.
