The IIFL Finance app, listed on Google Play as IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan, is run by IIFL Finance Limited, an RBI-registered NBFC that lends its own money. The one thing to know first: IIFL's own fee schedule says its personal loan was discontinued on 16 February 2024, so the app now mainly sells gold loans, with business loans alongside. So this review covers the gold loan. IIFL publishes amounts from ₹3,000 to ₹30 lakh over 12 to 24 months, at 9.72% to 27% a year depending on the scheme, plus a processing fee of up to 2% and GST. We tested those terms against RBI records, including a 2024 order that halted its new gold loans, and against recent Play reviews, as of November 2026.

Our Ratings

Disbursal speed 3.0/5

IIFL publishes no payout time and needs a branch visit for valuation; one reviewer says the loan comes fast but getting gold back can take a day or two.

Interest & cost 3.5/5

A published 9.72% to 27% a year with a fee of up to 2% and no foreclosure charge is fair for a secured loan, though SMS, MTM, notice and auction charges add up.

App experience 2.5/5

The app holds 4.7 stars, but recent written reviews describe wrong EMI amounts, failed payments, no UPI option and top-ups that still need a branch.

Customer support 3.0/5

A helpline six days a week, product-wise complaint emails and named nodal officers with a 15-day reply promise, against many complaints about slow branch service.

Safety & transparency 3.5/5

An RBI-registered NBFC lending its own money with a full fee table, but RBI halted its gold lending in 2024 and fined it twice in 2026, once over unpaid auction surpluses.

Loan Details & Charges

Loan Amount ₹3,000 to ₹30,00,000
Interest Rate 9.72% to 27% a year
Tenure 12 months to 24 months
Processing Fee 0% to 2% + GST
Late Payment Penal charge 0.5% a month (6% a year) on the outstanding due amount, no GST; overdue notice ₹200 each (once in 90 days); auction charge ₹1,500; notice plus auction charges capped at ₹1,500 per loan account; all plus GST where stated
Foreclosure Nil, and no part-payment charge; a minimum of 7 days' interest is charged if the loan is closed within 7 days

Eligibility Criteria

Age 18-72 years
Employment Salaried and self-employed; the applicant must be the rightful owner of the gold
Documents KYC: Aadhaar, PAN, and passport, driving licence or voter ID; passport-size photographs may be asked; income proof for some high-value gold loans; gold jewellery of 18K to 22K

What It Actually Costs

Loan amount ₹3,00,000
Tenure 12 months
Monthly EMI No EMI: ₹3,000 interest a month, principal repaid at the end
Total interest ₹36,000
Processing fee ₹531 (0.15% = ₹450 + 18% GST of ₹81)
Total repayment ₹3,36,531

This is IIFL's own worked example from its Play listing: 12% a year, interest paid monthly and the ₹3,00,000 repaid at the end, with the fee counted in the total. At the 27% ceiling the same loan would cost ₹81,000 in interest (₹6,750 a month), and the maximum 2% fee would be ₹7,080 with GST.

Pros

  • The lender is IIFL Finance itself, an RBI-registered NBFC, not a middleman app
  • Gold loans from ₹3,000 at a published 9.72% to 27% a year, depending on the scheme
  • No foreclosure or part-payment charge, apart from 7 days' interest if you close within a week
  • A full fee table is published, down to SMS, notice, auction and top-up charges
  • Clear complaint ladder with named nodal officers, plus a published fraud advisory

Cons

  • IIFL's personal loan was discontinued on 16 February 2024, though old pages still advertise it
  • RBI stopped its new gold loans in March 2024 over purity checks, LTV breaches and auction lapses
  • RBI fined it twice in 2026, once for not paying some borrowers their gold auction surplus
  • Needs a branch visit for valuation; reviewers report slow gold release and app payment errors
  • Many small add-ons: ₹500 MTM, ₹5 a quarter for SMS, ₹200 notices and a ₹1,500 auction charge

Our Verdict

IIFL Finance is a real, regulated lender, and its gold loan is a mainstream product rather than a risky app loan. It sits in RBI's NBFC register as a Middle Layer investment and credit company, it lends from its own books, and it publishes a full fee table, named nodal officers and a clear fraud advisory. Gold loans also usually cost less than unsecured app loans: you can pay interest only, there's no part-payment charge, and closing early costs nothing after the first 7 days. The record has real blemishes, though. In March 2024 RBI ordered IIFL to stop new gold loans after finding lapses in gold purity checks, loan-to-value limits, cash handling, auctions and charges. We found no RBI notice lifting that order, but IIFL is plainly lending gold again in 2026. RBI then fined it ₹5.30 lakh in February 2026 and ₹3.10 lakh in May 2026, the second time for not paying some borrowers the surplus from auctioned gold. Small charges add up too, from SMS fees to a ₹500 mark-to-market charge. It suits people who own gold, live near a branch and need cash for a few months. If you wanted an unsecured personal loan, IIFL no longer offers one, so compare other regulated lenders.

Who IIFL Finance (IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan app) suits

People with 18K to 22K gold jewellery who need ₹3,000 to ₹30 lakh for 12 to 24 months
Borrowers with a thin or weak credit history, since IIFL says a score may not always be needed
Anyone who prefers paying interest only and clearing the principal at the end
People who live near an IIFL Finance branch and can go in for valuation

Look elsewhere if

You want an unsecured personal loan: IIFL stopped offering one to the public in February 2024
You can't visit a branch, because valuation and many top-ups and releases happen there
You might miss payments: penal interest, notice and auction charges apply, and RBI fined IIFL over auction surpluses

Things to Watch

  • RBI's order of 4 March 2024 barred IIFL from new gold loans after it found lapses in purity checks, LTV limits, cash handling and auctions. We found no RBI notice lifting it, though IIFL is lending gold again in 2026.
  • Two RBI penalties in 2026: ₹5.30 lakh (order of 6 February 2026, for not classifying some restructured accounts as NPA) and ₹3.10 lakh (order of 11 May 2026, for not paying some borrowers the surplus from auctioned gold).
  • Old personal-loan pages still show two different rate bands and an Apply Now form, although IIFL's fee schedule says the product was discontinued. Treat any 'IIFL personal loan' offer with care.
  • Play's data-safety form lists only photos as collected, while IIFL's privacy policy says it reads financial SMS and any contact you pick as a reference.
  • Dozens of recent five-star Play reviews praise IIFL home loans in near-identical Hinglish lines on an app built for gold and MSME loans, so the 4.7 average looks inflated.

What Real Users Say

Google Play shows 4.7 stars from 1.37L reviews and 50L+ downloads (updated 22 Oct 2026); the App Store shows 4.6 from 12k ratings. Treat the average with care: in the latest month many five-star posts are one or two words, and dozens praise IIFL home loans in near-identical Hinglish lines on an app built for gold and MSME loans.

Most recent Play reviews are five stars, but the written ones are mostly about servicing gold loans: paying in the app, top-ups and renewals, and getting gold back.

What users love

Short posts praise easy, quick service, and even some unhappy reviewers say the gold loan itself is quick to get at the branch.

Common complaints

Updates that show the wrong EMI or block custom payments, no UPI option, top-up and renewal buttons that fail, missing closure letters, gold release taking a day or two, SMS charges despite 'no hidden charges' claims, and EMI reminders for a business loan the app does not show.

How IIFL Finance (IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan app) Compares

vs Muthoot FinCorp — Another RBI-registered NBFC lending gold loans from its own branches and app; compare scheme rates and add-on charges side by side.

vs Oro Money — A gold loan app funded by Federal Bank and partner NBFCs, worth comparing if you want a bank-backed lender.

vs Tata Capital — If you need an unsecured personal loan rather than a gold loan, Tata Capital is a large RBI-registered NBFC that still offers one.

How we tested

Checked in November 2026. On 4 November 2026 we read IIFL Finance's gold loan, personal loan, fees and charges, grievance, contact, advisory and partner pages and its privacy policy, plus the Google Play and App Store listings and the latest month of Play reviews. We checked RBI's NBFC register as on 30 September 2026, RBI's March 2024 order and two 2026 penalty notices. RBI's Digital Lending Apps directory would not load, we found no RBI notice lifting the 2024 order, and we took no loan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IIFL Finance safe and RBI registered?
Yes. IIFL Finance Limited is an RBI-registered NBFC, entry 3077 in RBI's list as on 30 September 2026, and it lends its own money through the app. Its record isn't spotless: RBI stopped its new gold loans in March 2024 over purity, LTV and auction lapses, and fined it in February and May 2026. It is lending gold again, but read your sanction letter closely.
What does an IIFL Finance gold loan really cost?
IIFL's rates page shows 9.72% to 27% a year, while its Play listing gives an APR of 11.88% to 27%. The processing fee is up to 2% plus GST. In IIFL's own example, ₹3,00,000 for 12 months at 12% costs ₹36,000 in interest and a ₹531 fee. Add-ons include ₹5 a quarter for SMS and a ₹500 mark-to-market charge.
How much can I borrow from IIFL Finance, and for how long?
IIFL's app lists gold loans from ₹3,000 to ₹30 lakh, with extra checks above ₹30 lakh, for 12 to 24 months. The amount depends on your gold: IIFL lends up to 75% of its market value, using the 30-day average rate for 22-carat gold. You can pay interest monthly and the principal at the end, or choose EMIs.
Can I still get an IIFL Finance personal loan?
Not as a new customer, going by IIFL's own fee schedule, which says its personal loan was discontinued from 16 February 2024, apart from loans to its own employees. Some old IIFL pages still show personal loan rates and an Apply Now form. If anyone offers you an IIFL personal loan, check with IIFL before you share documents or pay anything.
What do I need for an IIFL Finance gold loan?
You must be 18 to 72 years old at disbursal, salaried or self-employed, and the owner of the gold. Bring 18K to 22K jewellery with Aadhaar and PAN; a passport, driving licence or voter ID also works as ID. IIFL says a credit score may not always be needed, but some high-value loans need income proof.
What is the IIFL Finance customer care number?
IIFL's helpline is 1860-267-3000 or 7039-050-000, from 9:30 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 9:30 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. Gold loan complaints can go to gold-helpline@iifl.com. If that fails, write to the nodal officers at nodalofficer@iifl.com, then the Principal Nodal Officer at pno@iifl.com, and after 30 days to RBI's ombudsman.
How do I file a complaint against IIFL Finance (IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan app)?
Work the escalation ladder in order. First, raise the complaint with IIFL Finance (IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan app) support (gold-helpline@iifl.com) and insist on a written complaint reference number — a call with no reference number effectively did not happen. If it is unresolved, escalate to the grievance redressal officer at nodalofficer@iifl.com. The regulated entity has 30 days to resolve it. After that, you can complain free of cost to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in — no lawyer is needed, and the decision is binding on the lender.
How do I stop harassment calls from IIFL Finance (IIFL Finance: Gold & MSME Loan app) recovery agents?
RBI's rules on recovery conduct are specific: agents may not call before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m., may not use threats, abuse or intimidation, and may not contact people from your phonebook to shame you. Blanket access to your contacts and photos is prohibited for digital lenders. If this is happening, save the evidence — call logs, screenshots, recordings — and complain to the lender's grievance officer (nodalofficer@iifl.com), then to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in if it continues. If the app is not a regulated entity at all, report it on the RBI Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in) and to the cyber-crime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in. Harassment, morphed images and contact-list shaming are criminal offences regardless of whether you owe money.
