InstaPe Loan App Real or Fake? Salary Advance Lenders Checked

InstaPe is real. It's a salary advance app run by InstaPe Synergies, a Mumbai company. The money comes from two regulated lenders, Mufin Green Finance and Suryoday Small Finance Bank, and each one lists InstaPe on its own website.

Is it safe? Mostly, with one big catch. InstaPe won't work unless your employer has joined, and its own sample loans get the numbers wrong. Before you accept an advance, open the lender's Key Fact Statement and check the fee and the amount that will reach your bank.

InstaPe in five lines

  • Real company: InstaPe Synergies Private Limited runs the app from Andheri East in Mumbai. It says it does not lend from its own balance sheet.
  • Regulated lenders: Suryoday holds an RBI licence as a small finance bank. Mufin Green Finance is in RBI's NBFC register, as at 30 September 2026.
  • Employer first: only full-time staff of firms or government offices signed up with InstaPe can use it. Your salary repays the loan.
  • Price: the Play listing shows an APR of 8% to 30% as of November 2026. Suryoday quotes 18% a year on loans made through InstaPe.
  • Weak spots: muddled fee examples, complaints about early closure, and long spells of errors in the app.

Who is behind InstaPe, and whose money you borrow

InstaPe calls itself a Digital Lending App. In plain words, it's the shop window, not the bank. InstaPe Synergies builds the app, signs up employers and passes your details to a lender. The lender decides whether to approve you and pays the money.

Two lenders do that today. Suryoday Small Finance Bank lists "InstaPe (InstaPe Synergies Private Limited)" among its lending service providers, for personal loans and salary advance. Mufin Green Finance, an NBFC in New Delhi, lists InstaPe on its own partner page. InstaPe's website, privacy policy and Play listing name the same two.

Your employer has a part too. The App Store listing says employers set the rules and the limit you can draw. The terms say your salary repays the loan, and an e-NACH mandate on your bank account is only a backup. That's why the app can't serve you if your company isn't signed up.

State governments use it as well. Syllad reported that Assam picked InstaPe in March 2026 for its salary advance scheme, with Suryoday and Mufin as lenders. Highland Post reported in August 2026 that Meghalaya did the same with Suryoday.

Is InstaPe RBI approved? Checks you can repeat

InstaPe itself doesn't need an NBFC licence, because it doesn't lend. What matters is the lender on your loan papers. Here's how we checked, and how you can do it too.

  1. Find the lender's name. Open your offer or Key Fact Statement in the app. It should name Mufin Green Finance or Suryoday Small Finance Bank.
  2. Check an NBFC on RBI's list. Download RBI's list of registered NBFCs and search the name. Mufin Green Finance Limited is serial 4664, under the New Delhi office, in the register as at 30 September 2026.
  3. Check a bank another way. Suryoday is a bank, so it isn't on the NBFC list. An RBI press release from January 2017 says RBI gave it a licence to run a small finance bank.
  4. See if the lender names the app. Suryoday's Digital Lending page lists InstaPe Synergies. Mufin's partner page lists InstaPe too.
  5. Try RBI's apps directory. RBI keeps a directory of lending apps that lenders report to it. It wouldn't load for us in November 2026, so try it yourself.
  6. Use Sachet for anything odd. RBI's Sachet portal takes reports about firms that lend or collect money without permission.

We explain every one of these steps in more detail in our RBI approval checklist for loan apps.

One more thing from RBI's records. In July 2022, RBI fined Suryoday ₹57.75 lakh for not following its fraud reporting rules. That was a fine for a rule breach, not a ban on lending.

InstaPe fees, rates and repayment terms

InstaPe doesn't publish one simple price list. The terms below come from its Google Play and App Store listings, its website and Suryoday's page, as of November 2026.

Term

What InstaPe and its lenders publish

Who can borrow

Full-time staff of signed-up employers, aged 21 or above

Amount

Not published; your employer sets the limit

Repayment

3 to 24 months on Play; 3 to 12 months on the App Store

Interest

18% a year on Suryoday's page; 16% in InstaPe's samples

APR

8% to 30% on Play; up to 30% on the App Store

Processing fee

₹200 plus ₹36 GST in the App Store sample; none in the Play sample

Early closure

"NIL" in the Play sample

Here's the App Store example in plain words. You borrow ₹10,000 for 12 months at 16%. You pay about ₹907 a month, and the interest adds up to about ₹888. A ₹200 fee plus GST comes off first, so roughly ₹9,764 reaches your bank. Count that fee and the yearly cost is close to 20.6%.

The Play listing's version of the same loan is wrong. It calls ₹907 the "Total Interest Payable", but that's the monthly EMI. The website adds a third model: a daily charge for each ₹1,000 you take, cut before payout. It doesn't say how big that charge is.

Do you work for the Assam government? Your state's rules may apply too. The Sentinel reported in February 2026 that Assam caps salary-linked credit at 20% a year, with no processing fee. Check your offer against that.

Why InstaPe gets called fake

Most of the doubt comes from how InstaPe shows its terms, not from who lends. These are the points that worry people:

  • Sloppy numbers. The Play sample mixes up EMI and interest. The App Store sample says ₹9,800 is paid out, but ₹10,000 minus the fee and GST is ₹9,764.
  • A fee that doesn't match. One reviewer wrote on 28 August 2026 that the app showed a 3% rate but took 6%.
  • Data claims that clash. On Play, the Data safety form claims nothing is collected. Yet the privacy policy lists your employer ID, salary details and a selfie.
  • Old lender names. The App Store listing still names Hindon Mercantile, a Delhi NBFC, and not Mufin. A landing page claims 3 financial partners, while the site names two.

There's also a name mix-up. In April 2026, Kerala police booked a loan app called "Insta Pay" after a dental student in Kannur died, Onmanorama reported. Two InstaPe reviews from 17 April 2026 blame InstaPe for that death. The news reports we read never name InstaPe, its company or its lenders.

Some things that look odd are normal here. A salary advance needs your employer's data, so the app asks for your employee ID. It uses your rough location only to stamp the KYC selfie, as its privacy policy says.

InstaPe ratings and reviews from real users

On Google Play, InstaPe has 3.6 stars from 140 reviews and 10K+ downloads as of November 2026. On the App Store it shows 3.0 from 8 ratings. We read the 71 newest Play reviews on 4 November 2026.

They split almost down the middle: 33 five-star and 32 one-star. Happy users, several of them Rajasthan government staff, call it easy and reliable. Some ask for longer tenures and top-up loans.

The complaints repeat. People report "under maintenance" screens for days, including on the Assam FinAssam route in October 2026. Others say the app can't find their job data. Many say they can't close the loan early, and that calls and emails go unanswered.

Are the reviews fake? We didn't see bursts of identical posts. Many five-star reviews are just one or two words, though, and one thanks a named agent who arranged the loan. InstaPe hadn't replied to any of the reviews we read.

Fake InstaPe offers: warning signs to watch for

InstaPe doesn't sell to the general public. So a cold call or WhatsApp message offering an "InstaPe loan" with no link to your employer should make you careful.

  • Check the developer. The real app is listed under INSTAPE SYNERGIES PRIVATE LIMITED. Don't install an APK file someone sends you in a chat.
  • Know the partner app. "Instape Partner" is for referral agents who earn from sign-ups. It's not where you borrow.
  • Never pay first. Any fee is cut from the payout and shown in your KFS. Nobody should ask you to send a "processing fee" upfront.
  • Watch the UPI ID. Repayment comes from your salary or the e-NACH mandate. Don't pay a person's UPI ID to "clear" a loan.
  • Report threats. InstaPe's terms say loans are repaid from salary, with e-NACH as a backup. Treat any threat or abuse over a loan as possible fraud.

One more point. InstaPe's terms let it and its partners call you with offers, even if you're on the DND list. A sales call alone isn't proof of fraud, but never share an OTP on one.

If an InstaPe loan goes wrong: who to call

Start with InstaPe. Write to support@instape.com, or call +91 86554 08340, the support number on its Play listing. Keep every reply. All the numbers are on our InstaPe customer care page.

If that fails, go up a level. InstaPe's grievance officer, Mr. Durairaj Ponnusamy, is at nodalofficer@instape.com and +91 86554 08338, from 9:30am to 6:00pm. A bank or NBFC holds your loan, so complain to it as well. For Suryoday, ring Mrs. Rekha Britto, who handles digital loan complaints, on 022-40941556. For Mufin, the grievance officer's number is 9910418787.

Still stuck after 30 days? Take it to the RBI Ombudsman online at cms.rbi.org.in. The RBI helpline number is 14448. If someone has cheated or blackmailed you, report it to the national cybercrime helpline, 1930, the same day.

Is InstaPe a good choice for you?

InstaPe makes sense if your employer already offers it. Repayment comes out of payroll, the lenders are regulated, and the published APR tops out at 30%.

It's a weaker choice if you may want to close the loan early or need a clear fee upfront. Ask HR how the deductions and early closure work before you sign. Our full InstaPe review scores the app on cost, support and safety.

If your company isn't on InstaPe, you can't use it at all. Look at regulated lenders that serve salaried people directly, such as Fibe, CASHe or FlexSalary. Compare their KFS with any InstaPe offer, or browse more loan app reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Is InstaPe real or fake?

InstaPe is a real app run by InstaPe Synergies Private Limited in Mumbai. It arranges salary advances and salary-linked loans for staff of employers that have signed up. Mufin Green Finance and Suryoday Small Finance Bank put up the money, and each names InstaPe on its website. Its fee examples are messy, so check your KFS.

Is InstaPe RBI registered?

InstaPe doesn't lend, so it doesn't hold an RBI licence itself. One lender, Suryoday, holds an RBI licence to run a small finance bank. The other, Mufin Green Finance, is serial 4664 in RBI's NBFC register, as at 30 September 2026. Your loan papers show which one lends to you.

How much does an InstaPe salary advance cost?

InstaPe's Play listing, checked in November 2026, gives an APR of 8% to 30%. Suryoday's own page quotes 18% a year. InstaPe's App Store example charges a ₹200 fee plus GST on ₹10,000 at 16%, which puts the yearly cost close to 20.6%. Your offer screen and KFS give your real price.

What is the InstaPe customer care number?

InstaPe's Play listing gives +91 86554 08340, and its support email is support@instape.com. For complaints, call the grievance officer on +91 86554 08338 between 9:30am and 6:00pm, or email nodalofficer@instape.com. Never trust a number from a search ad or a WhatsApp message.

Is InstaPe the loan app linked to harassment in Kerala?

Kerala police booked an app called "Insta Pay" in April 2026 after a Kannur student's death. The reports we read don't mention InstaPe, InstaPe Synergies or its lenders. InstaPe serves staff of signed-up employers and recovers loans from salary. If anyone threatens you over a loan, report it on 1930.

How do I close or cancel an InstaPe loan?

InstaPe's Play sample says early closure costs nothing, yet reviewers keep saying there's no button for it in the app. Email support and the grievance officer for a closure statement, and copy your lender. Mufin's charges sheet lets it levy up to 5% for paying early, so read your KFS first.

Can I use InstaPe if my company isn't signed up?

No. InstaPe says it is only for full-time employees of companies that have signed up with it. Your employer shares your salary details and sets your limit. If your employer isn't on it, ask HR, or compare a regulated app that lends to salaried people directly.
