LoanTap Loan App Real or Fake? Who Lends and What to Watch

LoanTap isn't a fake app. It's a working loan app, and its personal loans come from LoanTap Credit Products, an NBFC that is on RBI's list of registered lenders. Before you apply, check that your offer names that NBFC, or another RBI-registered lender, and shows the full APR.

Whether it's real and whether it's safe aren't the same question. The company exists and its lender is regulated. But LoanTap's own pages quote different prices, and many recent Play reviews say EMIs were paid but never marked as paid. Below is what our checks showed as of November 2026, plus how to run them yourself.

Quick answer

  • Real company: LoanTap Financial Technologies Private Limited builds and runs the app from Pune.
  • RBI link: the lender is the group's NBFC, LoanTap Credit Products. It is entry 3999 in RBI's register as on September 30, 2026.
  • Second lender: MAS Financial Services, also on RBI's list, is named as a co-lender. Its own website says so too.
  • Cost: interest starts at 12% a year and goes up to 26% on LoanTap's site. Google Play caps the APR at 29%.
  • Main worry: since mid-2026, most new reviews complain about payments not updating and support that doesn't reply.

Who runs LoanTap, and whose money you borrow

Two companies share the LoanTap name. LoanTap Financial Technologies is the tech firm. It builds the app, finds customers and services loans for lenders. It is not a lender, and it does not appear in RBI's NBFC register.

The lender is LoanTap Credit Products Private Limited. It is the group's own NBFC, and it used to be called Lotus Sree Filco Private Limited. The Play listing says plainly that LoanTap gives loans "through its own NBFC". LoanTap's FAQ also says your money is paid out by this in-house NBFC.

A third name turns up in LoanTap's papers. MAS Financial Services, an Ahmedabad NBFC, is listed as "Lender 1" in LoanTap's disclosure for the personal loan. MAS posts its own version of that disclosure on its website. That matters, because it means the second lender itself confirms the tie-up.

LoanTap's contact page lists one more NBFC, I-Loan Credit Private Limited. RBI's register shows the same contact email for I-Loan as for LoanTap Credit Products, so the two are closely linked.

LoanTap also runs a loan marketplace. Its "Our Lending Partners" page lists about 30 names, such as KreditBee, CASHe, mPokket, Kissht and Prefr. Entrackr reported on 5 June 2025 that LoanTap had scaled down its own consumer loans. It said LoanTap now mostly finds such loans for partner NBFCs. One reviewer in October 2026 said the app sent them to Branch.

So the lender on your loan may not be LoanTap's own NBFC. Read the lender's name on your offer, every time.

Is LoanTap RBI registered? Our checks, step by step

RBI registers the lender behind an app, not the app itself. LoanTap's app page says the app is "approved by the RBI", but that's loose wording. What counts is the lender. We ran these on 4 November 2026. Anyone can redo them.

  1. Get the lender's full name. It is printed on the Key Fact Statement (KFS) and the loan agreement. For a LoanTap loan it should read LoanTap Credit Products Private Limited, or MAS Financial Services Limited as co-lender.
  2. Search RBI's NBFC register. Our copy was the October 15, 2026 edition, with data up to September 30, 2026. LoanTap Credit Products is entry 3999 under RBI's Mumbai office, in the Base layer.
  3. Check the other names. MAS Financial Services is entry 4357 under Ahmedabad, in the Middle layer. I-Loan Credit is entry 3086 under New Delhi.
  4. See if the lender claims the app. LoanTap's lender page for LoanTap Credit Products names the Play app. MAS's website names LoanTap Credit Products too.
  5. See if RBI's lending-app list shows LoanTap. The RBI page never opened for us, so this one is unconfirmed. Try it before you sign.
  6. Read the KFS. Check the APR, every fee and the cooling-off period. Don't sign until the lender's name matches your search.

We explain each step at more length in our RBI check for loan apps. If a lender is missing from RBI's list, you can report it on RBI's Sachet portal.

What a LoanTap loan costs

LoanTap publishes its prices in four places: its personal loan page, its app page, its Play listing and a lender disclosure. They don't fully match. This table shows what each one says, as of November 2026.

Term

What LoanTap publishes

Loan amount

₹50,000 to ₹10,00,000

Tenure

6 to 60 months (site and Play); 12 to 48 months (lender disclosure)

Interest

12% to 24% (app page); up to 26% (personal loan page); 16% to 24% (Play)

APR

Up to 29% (Play); up to 27% (lender disclosures)

Processing fee

2% to 3% plus GST, taken from the loan

Platform charge

₹750 plus GST (personal loan page only)

Bounce charge

₹550

Penal interest

36% a year on overdue amounts (app page)

Prepayment

4% plus GST before 6 EMIs; free after 6 months

Stamp duty

0.1% of the loan amount

LoanTap's own example on Google Play uses ₹1,00,000 for 36 months at 18%. The EMI is ₹3,615. The fee is ₹2,000 plus GST, so ₹2,360 comes off the top and ₹97,640 reaches your bank. You repay ₹1,30,140 in all, and the loan costs ₹32,500 in interest and fees.

At 26%, the top rate on LoanTap's site, the EMI on that same loan climbs to about ₹4,029. Interest alone would come to about ₹45,044. That gap is why the rate on your KFS matters more than any advert.

The site also describes a salary advance. It ranges from ₹25,000 up to ₹1,00,000 and lasts 3 to 12 months, for people who earn ₹40,000 a month or more. A flat fee applies: ₹2,500 plus GST on amounts up to ₹50,000, and ₹5,000 plus GST on bigger ones. Early repayment isn't allowed. The NBFC's own site calls it a 10 or 20 day loan. The Play listing leaves it out, so ask before you count on it.

Why some people think LoanTap is fake

Search for LoanTap and you'll see "fraud" and "loan trap" in reviews. The lender is real, so where does that come from? Mostly from service problems, not from a missing licence.

Here's what actually worries us:

  • Payments not showing. Since mid-2026, reviewers keep saying they paid an EMI or closed the loan, yet the app still shows dues. Some say AutoPay kept running and no NOC came.
  • Loans people say they never took. A few reviewers say an EMI of a few hundred rupees, such as ₹226 a month, appeared with AutoPay already set. We could not verify any of these. Other reviewers mention small EMIs from online shopping, so check your own orders too.
  • Muddled contact details. The Play listing gives a Gmail address for support. LoanTap's papers also give two phone numbers for the grievance officer and three different names for the nodal officer.
  • Mixed terms. Rates, tenure and age limits differ from page to page, as the table shows.
  • Other lenders. The app may show offers from partner lenders, which some users say wasted their time.

Some things that look odd are normal. LoanTap takes a NACH or AutoPay mandate for EMIs, like most lenders. Its FAQ says it collects a couple of security cheques. It checks your credit score, and it takes the processing fee out of the loan rather than asking you to pay first.

What borrowers say about LoanTap

On 4 November 2026 the app had 3.0 stars from 10.4K reviews, with 10L+ downloads. Google Play shows it was last updated on 7 January 2026. We read the newest reviews through Play's own feed.

Since March 2026, the newest reviews are mostly one star. The common themes are EMIs not marked as paid, repeated reminders, double debits, missing NOCs and calls or emails nobody answers. One April 2026 reviewer said the site and app showed a "Bad Gateway" error for days while they tried to pay.

Some praise is real. A March 2026 reviewer said the app "works well" and the process is simple, though rates could be lower.

Treat the five-star reviews with care. A large burst of short, generic five-star posts landed on a single day in November 2025. Another wave came over a few days in February 2026, and many of those posts start with a stray full stop. That pattern looks inorganic. Older reviews, from 2021 to 2023, also describe harsh collection calls to family members.

How to spot a fake LoanTap app, agent or call

LoanTap's name is easy to copy, and we found no fraud warning on its own pages. So use these checks.

  • One real app. On Google Play it is "LoanTap - Personal Loan App", published by LoanTap Financial Technologies Private Limited. LoanTap's site also mentions an LTCash app, but Play said that page was not found on 4 November 2026.
  • No APK files. Never install a LoanTap app from a link sent by SMS or WhatsApp.
  • No upfront fees. LoanTap takes its fee from the loan amount. Anyone who asks you to pay a "processing fee" first, to a personal UPI ID, is a scammer.
  • Check the email. LoanTap's website uses addresses ending in loantap.in or help.loantap.in. Be wary of anything else, even the Gmail address on Play.
  • Check the number. LoanTap's care line is +91 7888040000. Its site also links a WhatsApp number, 9146030002, for loan applications.
  • Never share OTPs. No real lender needs your OTP, PIN or screen share.

If a loan you never asked for shows up, pull your credit report. Then check the AutoPay mandates in your UPI app and bank.

What to do if a LoanTap loan goes wrong

Complain to LoanTap in writing first, so there's a record. Keep your loan account number and payment receipts ready. Full details are on our LoanTap customer care page.

  1. Customer care. Call +91 7888040000 or email cs.loantapcredit@help.loantap.in. Lines are open 9:30 am until 6:30 pm on weekdays.
  2. Grievance officer. No answer within 14 days? Email Rebecca Nunes at gro.loantapcredit@loantap.in. LoanTap lists her phone as 07447471230 on one page and 020-48521022 on another.
  3. Principal Nodal Officer. Next, write to Chintamani Kalburge at nodal.loantapcredit@loantap.in or pno.loantapcredit@loantap.in.
  4. RBI Ombudsman. Still stuck after 30 days? Use cms.rbi.org.in, RBI's complaints portal, or phone 14448.
  5. Fraud. For money taken by a scammer, call 1930 at once and report it on the national cybercrime portal.

LoanTap's contact form has a "Mandate Cancel" option for AutoPay problems. You can also withdraw data consent by writing to cs.fintech@loantap.in, and LoanTap says it replies within 72 hours.

Should you use LoanTap?

LoanTap can work for a salaried person whose credit score is at least 700 and who wants ₹50,000 or above. It suits people who want a long tenure and may repay early, once foreclosure turns free after 6 months. It also suits careful borrowers who save every receipt.

Look elsewhere if you need a small loan, want a phone line that answers, or may close the loan in the first 6 months. Fair alternatives at a similar loan size include Moneyview, Fibe and Navi. Get two quotes and compare the APR on each KFS. Our full LoanTap review scores the app on cost, speed and support, and the reviews page has the rest of our app ratings.

Frequently asked questions

Is LoanTap real or fake?

LoanTap is real. LoanTap Financial Technologies runs the app from Pune, and the loans come from its own NBFC, LoanTap Credit Products, which is on RBI's register. Being real doesn't make it trouble-free. Many recent reviews report payments that don't update and support that doesn't answer, so keep proof of every EMI you pay.

Is LoanTap RBI registered?

The app isn't registered, because RBI registers lenders. LoanTap's lender, LoanTap Credit Products Private Limited, is entry 3999 in the September 30, 2026 edition of RBI's NBFC register. The co-lender, MAS Financial Services, sits at entry 4357. We couldn't open RBI's list of lending apps, so look LoanTap up there yourself.

What is the real cost of a LoanTap loan?

Interest runs from 12% to 26% a year on LoanTap's pages, and Play caps the APR at 29%. Add a fee of 2% to 3% plus GST, taken from the loan. LoanTap's Play example puts ₹1,00,000 over 36 months at 18%, which costs ₹32,500 in interest and fees. Your KFS shows your exact figure.

What is the LoanTap customer care number?

Call +91 7888040000 or write to cs.loantapcredit@help.loantap.in. Both are staffed on weekdays, 9:30 am until 6:30 pm. For complaints, email the grievance officer at gro.loantapcredit@loantap.in. LoanTap doesn't publish a toll-free number, so be wary of any free helpline that claims to be LoanTap.

Does LoanTap harass borrowers or make fake calls?

Our searches found no police case or RBI action against LoanTap. Its Fair Practices Code bars bothering borrowers at odd hours or using muscle power. Still, older reviews describe harsh collection calls, and newer ones complain of reminders after payment. If a caller threatens you, note the number and complain in writing. Report any scam to 1930.

How do I close a LoanTap loan or stop AutoPay?

Pay the full amount through the app or as LoanTap's team tells you. Then ask for a No Due Certificate in writing. After 6 months there's no foreclosure fee; before that, 4% plus GST applies. If AutoPay keeps running after closure, raise a "Mandate Cancel" request and escalate to the grievance officer.

Why does the LoanTap app show offers from other lenders?

LoanTap also works as a loan marketplace. Its partners page lists about 30 lenders and platforms, such as KreditBee, CASHe and Prefr. An offer from one of them comes from that lender, at that lender's price. Check the name on the KFS, and read that lender's review before you accept.
