Mahindra Finance Loan App Real or Fake? Who Can Borrow, What It Costs
By Abhishek Kumar · Content Writer Edited by BankCreds Content & SEO Team Updated 4 November 2026 Reviewed by BankCreds Financial Experts Mahindra Finance is real, and so is its app. The lender is Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited, an RBI-registered NBFC. It lends in its own name, so no unknown partner sits in the middle. Before you apply, check one thing: can you even get this loan? It goes only to people who already borrow from Mahindra Finance and have repaid well, plus people who work for the Mahindra Group.
Real and safe are two different questions, though. On safety, this lender is about as closely watched as a non-bank gets. The weak spots are elsewhere. Its pages give clashing figures for tenure and early closure, and it has paid three RBI penalties since 2023. So check what the Key Fact Statement (KFS) says about early closure, then sign.
Quick answer
- Real company: Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited of Mumbai, a Mahindra Group firm best known for vehicle loans.
- RBI registered: RBI's register, with data to 30 September 2026, shows it at number 4189. It is in the Upper Layer and may take public deposits.
- Its own app: on the company's digital lending page, the Customer App appears against personal loans.
- Not open to all: only current borrowers who have repaid well, and Mahindra Group staff, can apply. The age limits are 21 and 58.
- Costs to watch: interest runs from 8% to 25% a year, and there's a 2% fee plus GST. Overdue sums cost 36% a year, and the early closure terms change from page to page.
Who owns the Mahindra Finance app, and whose money you borrow
On Google Play the app is called "Mahindra Finance: Loans & FD". The developer is Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited, which is also the lender. The company's grievance policy links to this exact app, so you know you have the right one.
Most of its lending is for vehicles, from tractors and cars to trucks and three-wheelers. So the app works mainly as a servicing tool. People use it to pay EMIs, download statements, book fixed deposits and look for pre-approved offers.
The personal loan sits inside that app as an extra. Its website says these loans are "available exclusively for customers and Mahindra Group employees". So if you have never borrowed from Mahindra Finance, the website gives you no route to one. There is no separate personal loan app.
Of its three named partners, Mahindra One and Maruti Suzuki Subscribe pass it leads, while Lendingkart works on business loans.
Watch for two name mix-ups:
- Kotak Mahindra is a different group. Kotak Mahindra Bank is not Mahindra Finance. Kotak's NBFCs, such as Kotak Mahindra Investments and Kotak Mahindra Prime, are listed by RBI under their own names.
- Other apps by the same developer aren't for borrowers. That includes M TEZZ, the Dealer App and Quiklyz. Mahindra Rural Housing Finance is a separate lender.
Is Mahindra Finance RBI registered? Checks you can repeat
Apps don't get RBI licences; lenders do. We ran these checks on 4 November 2026, and you can repeat them.
- Get the lender's full name. Your KFS and loan agreement should say Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited. Any other name is a warning sign.
- Open RBI's NBFC register. Ours was the edition dated 15 October 2026, covering data up to 30 September 2026. RBI's own server timed out for us, so we read the same official PDF from an Internet Archive copy.
- Match the entry. Look for serial 4189, the Mumbai regional office, the ICC class and the Upper Layer. The CIN should read L65921MH1991PLC059642, and the public deposits column says "Yes".
- See if the lender claims the app. Mahindra Finance's digital lending page names three platforms for its personal loans: the Customer App, a Customer Web Link and a Customer Web Portal.
- Try RBI's Digital Lending Apps directory. It wouldn't load for us, so this check is still open. Run it yourself before you sign.
- Look for RBI action. RBI's press releases show three fines and a 2022 curb on outside recovery agents. We explain each one below.

What a Mahindra Finance personal loan costs
The company spreads its terms over several pages, and they don't always agree. This is what each page said when we checked in November 2026.
Item | What Mahindra Finance says | Source page |
|---|---|---|
Amount | ₹50,000 to ₹15 lakh | Personal loan page |
Amount | Based on eligibility | Play listing and loan FAQ |
Tenure | 6 to 36 months | Play listing |
Tenure | 24 to 60 months | Personal loan page |
Tenure | 36 months for mature customers, 18 for current ones | Loan FAQ |
Interest | 8% to 25% a year | Interest rate policy, from 21 July 2026 |
APR | Up to 22.5% | Play listing |
Processing fee | 2% of the sanctioned amount, plus GST | Fee schedules |
Penal charge | 36% a year on the overdue amount | Fee schedules |
Bounce charge | ₹500 or ₹450 per returned EMI, plus GST | Fee schedules |
Early closure | Free, "nominal", 4%, or 6% then 3% | Different pages |
Interest-only period | Optional, 12 to 24 months | Personal loan page |
The Play listing gives a worked example. You borrow ₹55,000 for 18 months and pay an EMI of ₹3,655. Interest comes to ₹10,790, the fee is ₹1,100 with GST, and stamp duty adds ₹100. Your total cost is ₹66,990.
Those figures don't fit the 22.5% APR printed next to them. At 22.5% interest, that loan's EMI would be about ₹3,628. An EMI of ₹3,655 points to roughly 23.5% interest. Add the fee and stamp duty, and the true APR is about 26.5%. APR counts fees on top of interest, so it can't sit below the rate.
Here is a plainer example of our own. Take ₹1,00,000 for 24 months at 25%, the top of the published band. The EMI is ₹5,337, and you repay ₹1,28,088 in all. The 2% fee with GST is ₹2,360, taken before payout, so about ₹97,640 reaches your bank.
Early closure needs extra care. The loan page promises "no pre-payment penalty". One fee schedule says 4% of what you still owe. The schedule for pre-approved loans says 6% in the first 24 months, then 3%.
Why people ask if Mahindra Finance is fake
Most doubts come from loose ends, not fraud. Here's what we found.
- Name confusion. Mahindra Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kotak Mahindra sound alike, so people mix them up.
- A dead link. The FAQ's link for pre-approved personal loans showed a Cloudflare "Origin DNS error" twice on 4 November 2026.
- RBI fines. The first of the three, in April 2023, was ₹6.77 crore over how it disclosed interest rates. April 2025 brought ₹71.30 lakh; one reason was fees missing from some application forms. The latest, ₹11.50 lakh in February 2026, covered revised foreclosure charges that loan agreements didn't provide for, among other lapses.
- A recovery ban. On 22 September 2022, RBI stopped the company from using outside agents for recovery and repossession. This came after a pregnant woman died in Hazaribagh trying to stop a tractor seizure. RBI lifted the curb on 4 January 2023.
- Data wording. The app's privacy policy keeps the right to ask, once, for your contacts and SMS. Yet Play's data safety section mentions just location and photos.
Keep the fines in proportion. RBI says such penalties rest on "deficiencies in regulatory compliance" and don't rule on any customer's loan. They show lapses at a regulated lender, not a fake one.
Some steps feel intrusive but are normal: a credit bureau check, video KYC, an e-NACH mandate and a call to confirm your details.
What users say about the Mahindra Finance app
When we looked on 4 November 2026, the app showed 4.3 stars, 48.8K reviews and 50L+ downloads. The listing was last updated in late October.
Then we sorted the reviews by newest. In the latest 200, from 3 October to 3 November 2026, 107 people gave five stars and 77 gave one. Most write about vehicle loans, not personal loans.
The common complaints were:
- the app crashing or not opening after an update, a wave that peaked in early October 2026
- NOCs held up for weeks after a loan was closed, with repeat visits to the branch
- ₹500 bounce charges that users say hit even with money in the account
- frequent reminder calls, even to people who pay on time
- one reviewer says an agent promised 9% interest, but 19% was charged
Happy users say the app is handy for checking a loan statement and paying EMIs. Treat the star rating with care. Most five-star posts are three words or fewer, such as "good" or "nice", and each gets a stock thank-you reply. We saw no burst of copied text, though.
How to spot fake Mahindra Finance calls, apps and agents
Big brands get copied, and this one runs its own fraud advisory page and a video series called "Scam ka Kaam Tamam". The checks that matter:
- Use the Play app only. Install "Mahindra Finance: Loans & FD" by Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited. Never install an APK sent on WhatsApp or by SMS.
- No cash, no personal accounts. The company says it does not collect cash for processing or login fees. It also says it "never asks the customer to transfer money to a personal account".
- Know the call numbers. The company's service calls use numbers starting 1600, and its sales calls numbers starting 1400. Treat a "Mahindra Finance" call from an ordinary mobile number with suspicion.
- Question surprise offers. Its scam videos cover fake EMI collection, fake foreclosure deals, fake approvals and fake offer letters. Personal loans are only for existing customers, so a cold call offering one to a stranger is a red flag.
- Beware lookalike websites. The company warns about imposter websites with other names.
- Report it. Write to service.mmfsl@mahindra.com or call 1800-233-1234. Lost money already? Ring the national cybercrime line, 1930, the same day.
If something goes wrong with your Mahindra Finance loan
Keep your loan number and screenshots ready, then climb the company's three-level ladder.
- Level 1, customer care. Call 1800 268 1234 or 1800 233 1234, from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week, national holidays excepted. Email SERVICE@mahindrafinance.com, or WhatsApp "Hi" to 7066331234 from your registered mobile. An SMS gives you a reference number.
- Level 2, the Grievance Redressal Officer. Write to Mr. Brijesh Kumar at GRIEVANCEREDRESSAL@mahindrafinance.com, or call 022 6652 3540 on weekdays.
- Level 3, the Principal Nodal Officer. Mr. Anand Dubey is on 022 6652 6039 and NODALOFFICER.HO@mahindrafinance.com.
- Then RBI. If you have no fix after 30 days, file on cms.rbi.org.in, the RBI Integrated Ombudsman portal, or call 14448.
- Fraud. If someone threatens you, or a fake agent takes your money, ring 1930.

Should you take a Mahindra Finance personal loan?
It may suit you if:

- you like keeping your vehicle loan, FD and a top-up loan in one app

Frequently asked questions
Is Mahindra Finance real or fake?
Mahindra Finance is real. It's the brand name of Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited, a Mumbai NBFC registered with RBI. That company publishes the "Mahindra Finance: Loans & FD" app on Google Play. Scammers do borrow the name, so use only the official app and numbers.
Is Mahindra Finance approved by RBI?
Yes. RBI's register, with data to 30 September 2026, shows Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited at number 4189. It is filed under RBI's Mumbai office, placed in the Upper Layer and cleared to take public deposits. The three RBI penalties since 2023 were for compliance lapses, and the registration stays active.
What does a Mahindra Finance personal loan really cost?
Its interest rate policy sets 8% to 25% a year for personal and consumer loans. The fee is 2% of the sanctioned amount, with GST on top. In Play's own example, ₹55,000 over 18 months costs ₹66,990 in total. Pay late and you're charged 36% a year on what's overdue, and each bounce costs ₹450 or ₹500.
What is the Mahindra Finance customer care number?
Its two toll-free lines are 1800 268 1234 and 1800 233 1234. Both run 8am to 10pm, all week, except on national holidays. You can also WhatsApp "Hi" to 7066331234 or email SERVICE@mahindrafinance.com. If a complaint stays open, escalate to Brijesh Kumar, the company's Grievance Redressal Officer.
What should I do about fake calls or harassment in Mahindra Finance's name?
Check the number first. Mahindra Finance says its service calls use numbers starting 1600. Never pay a caller in cash or into a personal account, because the company says it never asks for either. If a real collector is abusive, note the date and number and complain to the Grievance Redressal Officer. For fraud or threats, call 1930.
How do I close a Mahindra Finance loan early?
Ask customer care or your branch for a written foreclosure statement first. The pages disagree: no penalty, 4% of the outstanding principal, or 6% in the first 24 months. RBI's 2026 fine was partly about foreclosure charges, so get the figure in writing before you pay.
Can a new customer get a Mahindra Finance personal loan?
Going by its website, no. The loan is kept for people who already borrow from it and have repaid on time. Mahindra Group employees can apply too, if they're past probation and between 21 and 58. A new borrower can try its vehicle or home loans instead, or pick a lender that welcomes new customers.
