Mahindra Finance: Loans & FD is the customer app of Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, a Mumbai NBFC best known for tractor, car and commercial vehicle loans. The lender is the company itself, an RBI-registered NBFC in the Upper Layer, and the thing to know first is that its personal loan is for existing Mahindra Finance customers with a good repayment record and for Mahindra Group employees, not for new borrowers. Most people use the app to pay EMIs, download statements, book fixed deposits and check pre-approved offers. Its Play listing gives personal loan tenures of 6 to 36 months, and the company's rate policy puts personal loans at 8% to 25% a year before a 2% processing fee. We checked those terms against its fee schedules, RBI records and recent reviews, as of November 2026.

Our Ratings

Disbursal speed 3.0/5

The FAQ promises a few hours for digital loans to existing customers, but the pre-approved loan portal it links to returned an error when we checked.

Interest & cost 3.0/5

An 8% to 25% rate band and a 2% fee are mainstream NBFC pricing, but 36% a year penal interest and up to 6% foreclosure add up.

App experience 2.5/5

The app holds 4.3 stars, yet recent reviews report crashes after an October 2026 update and missing loan details.

Customer support 3.0/5

Toll-free lines every day from 8am to 10pm, WhatsApp and a named escalation ladder, offset by repeated NOC delay complaints.

Safety & transparency 4.0/5

An Upper Layer, deposit-taking NBFC lending in its own name, marked down for three RBI penalties and conflicting charge pages.

Loan Details & Charges

Loan Amount ₹50,000 to ₹15,00,000
Interest Rate 8% to 25% a year
Tenure 6 months to 36 months
Processing Fee Up to 2% + GST
Late Payment Penal charges 36% per annum on the amount overdue (both fee schedules), plus GST
Foreclosure Pages conflict: PL feature box says 'no pre-payment penalty'; FAQ says a 'nominal pre-closure rate'; schedule for other personal loans says 4% of principal outstanding + tax (part-payment also 4%); the retail schedule the PL fees page points to for pre-approved loans sets 6% of principal outstanding in the first 24 months and 3% after (vehicle and other retail loans). RBI fined MMFSL in February 2026 for levying revised foreclosure charges not provided for in loan agreements.
Bounce Charges ₹500 per returned instrument on the retail schedule that covers pre-approved personal loans; ₹450 on the schedule for other personal loans; plus GST

Eligibility Criteria

Age 21-58 years
Employment Existing Mahindra Finance customers with a good repayment history, and Mahindra Group employees who are not on probation; salary slips are listed among documents
Documents Aadhaar number, PAN, CKYC, Aadhaar-linked mobile number, bank account with e-NACH; address proof (telephone bill, gas bill or bank statement); 3 months' salary slips, last 3 months' bank statement in PDF, cancelled cheque signed as on PAN, passport-size photograph

What It Actually Costs

Loan amount ₹1,00,000
Tenure 24 months
Monthly EMI ₹5,337
Total interest ₹28,088
Processing fee ₹2,360 (2% = ₹2,000 + 18% GST of ₹360), deducted upfront
Total repayment ₹1,28,088

Illustrative at 25% a year, the top of the 8% to 25% personal loan band in its rate policy, with the 2% fee: you'd receive about ₹97,640 before stamp duty, and at 8% the EMI would fall to ₹4,523. By the same formula, Play's own example (₹55,000 for 18 months, EMI ₹3,655) works out to about 23.5% interest, or about 26.5% a year once the ₹1,100 fee and ₹100 stamp duty are counted, above the 22.5% APR it states.

Pros

  • The lender is Mahindra Finance itself, an Upper Layer NBFC that is also allowed to take public deposits
  • A published personal loan rate band of 8% to 25% a year, with a 2% processing fee plus GST
  • Toll-free care every day from 8am to 10pm, plus WhatsApp and named grievance and nodal officers
  • Its FAQ says digital loans for existing customers can be paid out within a few hours
  • It names its lending partners, collection agencies and app service providers on its own site

Cons

  • Only existing customers with a good repayment record and Mahindra Group employees can apply
  • Its pages give three different tenure answers: 6 to 36 months, 24 to 60 months, or 18 months
  • Prepayment is described as free, nominal, 4% or 6% of the principal outstanding, depending on the page
  • Late payment costs 36% a year on the overdue amount, and a bounced EMI costs ₹450 to ₹500 plus GST
  • Recent reviews describe app crashes, NOC delays and bounce charges despite money in the account

Our Verdict

On safety, Mahindra Finance is about as solid as a non-bank lender gets. It sits in the Upper Layer of RBI's NBFC register, holds permission to take public deposits, and names a Grievance Redressal Officer, a Principal Nodal Officer and four regional nodal officers. Its own digital lending page lists the customer app as a channel for personal loans, so there's no unknown partner between you and the lender. The problems are fit and clarity. This is a top-up loan for people already on its books. Its pages disagree on tenure and on prepayment, which runs from no penalty to 6% of the outstanding principal in the first 24 months, and the Play example's EMI doesn't match the 22.5% maximum APR printed beside it. RBI has fined the company three times since 2023, most recently ₹11.50 lakh in February 2026, partly for charging revised foreclosure fees that weren't in loan agreements. Recent reviews add slow NOCs, disputed bounce charges and an app that wouldn't open for many users in early October 2026. If you're an existing customer with a pre-approved offer, it's a reasonable choice once you've read the Key Fact Statement and got the foreclosure charge in writing. If you're new to Mahindra Finance, look at lenders that take new customers.

Who Mahindra Finance (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services) suits

Existing Mahindra Finance borrowers with a clean repayment record who see a pre-approved offer in the app
Mahindra Group employees who have finished probation
People who want their vehicle loan, fixed deposit and a top-up loan in one app
Borrowers who want a large, deposit-taking NBFC with a full complaint ladder

Look elsewhere if

You've never borrowed from Mahindra Finance, because the personal loan isn't open to new customers
You may repay early, since its pages put prepayment anywhere from free to 6% of what's left
You want a dependable app, as crash complaints piled up in early October 2026

Not sure the app is genuine? Is Mahindra Finance (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services) real or fake? How to check it yourself

Things to Watch

  • RBI fined the company ₹11.50 lakh in February 2026, partly for charging revised foreclosure fees that its loan agreements did not provide for.
  • Earlier RBI penalties: ₹71.30 lakh in April 2025, partly for not showing processing fees in some application forms, and ₹6.77 crore in April 2023 over interest rate disclosure.
  • RBI barred outsourced recovery on 22 September 2022 after a fatal tractor repossession in Hazaribagh, then lifted the curb on 4 January 2023.
  • The Play example's EMI of ₹3,655 on ₹55,000 over 18 months is higher than a 22.5% APR allows, so the stated APR understates the cost.
  • The app privacy policy reserves one-time access to contacts and SMS, while the Play data safety form lists only location and photos.

How to Apply for Mahindra Finance (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services)

  1. 1

    Check that you qualify

The personal loan is for existing Mahindra Finance customers with a good repayment record and for Mahindra Group employees aged 21 to 58. Log in to the app with your registered mobile number to see whether you have a pre-approved offer.

  2. 2

    Customise the loan

Choose the amount and tenure the offer allows. The website mentions ₹50,000 to ₹15 lakh, but your limit depends on your eligibility.

  3. 3

Complete KYC and set the mandate

Finish KYC, then set up an e-NACH mandate on your bank account, which is how the EMIs are collected.

  4. 4

Read the KFS before you sign

Check the rate, the fee taken upfront, stamp duty and the foreclosure charge before you e-sign. Because the website's pages disagree on prepayment, ask for the foreclosure terms in writing.

Documents Required

Aadhaar number, Aadhaar-linked mobile number, PAN and CKYC details
A bank account with e-NACH and a cancelled cheque signed as on your PAN card
Salary slips for 3 months and the last 3 months' bank statement in PDF
Address proof such as a telephone bill, gas bill or bank statement
A passport-size photograph

What Real Users Say

On 4 November 2026 the listing showed 4.3 stars from 48.8K reviews and 50L+ downloads, last updated 28 October 2026. In the 200 newest reviews (3 October to 3 November 2026), 107 gave five stars and 77 gave one. Most five-star posts are three words or fewer and get a templated thank-you, but we saw no burst of identical text.

Reviews of the app are mostly about running existing loans, usually vehicle loans, rather than about personal loans. Short five-star posts sit beside detailed one-star complaints about loan closure, charges and the app itself.

What users love

Happy users say it's handy for seeing a vehicle loan statement and paying instalments, and a few praise branch staff or an easy loan. Most five-star posts are one or two words, such as good or nice.

Common complaints

A run of reports in early October 2026 that the app crashed or would not open after an update; NOCs delayed weeks after closure, sometimes with repeated branch visits; ₹500 bounce charges disputed by people who say the money was in their account; frequent reminder calls; one reviewer says an agent quoted 9% but 19% was charged.

How Mahindra Finance (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services) Compares

vs Bajaj Finserv — A large RBI-regulated NBFC that lends personal loans to new customers too, so it's the obvious quote to get if Mahindra Finance won't consider you.

vs Tata Capital — Another big NBFC with a published personal loan schedule; compare its foreclosure terms with Mahindra Finance's conflicting 4% and 6% figures.

vs Shriram Finance — Like Mahindra Finance, a vehicle-finance-led NBFC with its own app, useful if you want a similar lender for a personal loan.

How we tested

On 4 November 2026 we read Mahindra Finance's personal loan, fee schedule, interest rate policy, digital lending, fraud advisory, customer care and grievance pages, plus both privacy policies. We checked RBI's NBFC register as on 30 September 2026 and RBI press releases from 2022 to 2026, then the Play listing, its data safety section and the 780 newest reviews, all checked in November 2026. RBI's Digital Lending Apps directory would not load, the pre-approved loan portal returned an error, and we did not take a loan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mahindra Finance safe and RBI registered?
Yes. Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited is serial 4189 in RBI's list of registered NBFCs as on 30 September 2026, under the Mumbai office, in the Upper Layer, with permission to take public deposits. It lends in its own name through the app. RBI has fined it three times since 2023, most recently ₹11.50 lakh in February 2026, which points to compliance lapses, not fraud.
What does a Mahindra Finance personal loan really cost?
Its rate policy puts personal and consumer loans at 8% to 25% a year, before a processing fee of 2% of the sanction amount plus GST. Late payment costs 36% a year on the overdue sum, a bounced EMI ₹450 to ₹500, and early closure up to 6% in some schedules. Play's example of ₹55,000 over 18 months totals ₹66,990.
How much can I borrow from Mahindra Finance, and for how long?
The website mentions ₹50,000 to ₹15 lakh, while the app listing says the amount depends on eligibility. Tenure answers differ: the Play listing says 6 to 36 months, a website feature box says 24 to 60 months, and the FAQ says 36 months for mature customers but 18 months for current ones. Your offer letter and KFS decide.
Who can get a Mahindra Finance personal loan, and what documents are needed?
Only existing customers with a good repayment history and Mahindra Group employees aged 21 to 58 who are not on probation. You'll need your Aadhaar number and linked mobile, PAN, CKYC, a bank account with e-NACH, address proof, 3 months' salary slips, 3 months' bank statements, a cancelled cheque and a photograph.
What is the Mahindra Finance customer care number, and how do I complain?
Call toll-free 1800 268 1234 or 1800 233 1234, every day from 8am to 10pm except national holidays, email SERVICE@mahindrafinance.com, or send Hi on WhatsApp to 7066331234. If that fails, write to the Grievance Redressal Officer, Mr. Brijesh Kumar, then the Principal Nodal Officer. After 30 days, you can go to the RBI Ombudsman.
Is Mahindra Finance the same as Kotak Mahindra Bank?
No. Mahindra Finance is Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited, a Mahindra Group NBFC focused on vehicle loans. Kotak Mahindra Bank is a different company, and Kotak NBFCs such as Kotak Mahindra Prime have their own entries in RBI's register. Check the lender's full name on your loan papers. Mahindra Finance says its service calls now come from 1600-series numbers.
How do I file a complaint against Mahindra Finance (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services)?
Work the escalation ladder in order. First, raise the complaint with Mahindra Finance (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services) support (SERVICE@mahindrafinance.com) and insist on a written complaint reference number — a call with no reference number effectively did not happen. If it is unresolved, escalate to the grievance redressal officer at GRIEVANCEREDRESSAL@mahindrafinance.com. The regulated entity has 30 days to resolve it. After that, you can complain free of cost to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in — no lawyer is needed, and the decision is binding on the lender.
How do I stop harassment calls from Mahindra Finance (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services) recovery agents?
RBI's rules on recovery conduct are specific: agents may not call before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m., may not use threats, abuse or intimidation, and may not contact people from your phonebook to shame you. Blanket access to your contacts and photos is prohibited for digital lenders. If this is happening, save the evidence — call logs, screenshots, recordings — and complain to the lender's grievance officer (GRIEVANCEREDRESSAL@mahindrafinance.com), then to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in if it continues. If the app is not a regulated entity at all, report it on the RBI Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in) and to the cyber-crime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in. Harassment, morphed images and contact-list shaming are criminal offences regardless of whether you owe money.
