Muthoot FinCorp Loan App Real or Fake? The ONE App Checked
By Abhishek Kumar · Content Writer Edited by BankCreds Content & SEO Team Updated 4 November 2026 Reviewed by BankCreds Financial Experts Muthoot FinCorp ONE is real. Its gold loans come from Muthoot FinCorp Limited, a company on RBI's register of NBFCs, and that same company owns the app. So it's a genuine lender, not a fake app.
Real and safe are different questions, though. The app is safe enough if you understand its rates, because the rate you're shown lasts only while you pay interest on time. Before you pledge any jewellery, read the interest slabs on your pledge papers. For scores, see our full Muthoot FinCorp review.
Quick answer
- Is it real? Yes. The app belongs to Muthoot FinCorp Limited, a Muthoot Pappachan Group company.
- Who lends? For gold loans, Muthoot FinCorp itself. It's entry 4703 on RBI's NBFC list as on 30 September 2026.
- Personal loans? The app shows them, but partner lenders like Bajaj Finance and Tata Capital provide that money.
- What to watch: late interest moves a gold loan into a higher rate slab, up to 30% a year on some schemes.
- Not the same company: Muthoot Finance, which runs the iMuthoot app, is a separate NBFC.
Who runs Muthoot FinCorp ONE and who lends the money
Muthoot FinCorp Limited runs the app. Google Play names it as the legal entity and calls ONE a business unit of the company. The company's homepage links to that same listing.
The company is the flagship of the Muthoot Pappachan Group. Its website says it ran 3,781 gold loan branches as of 31 March 2026. Gold loans are its core business and the main loan in ONE.
Here's who funds each kind of loan in ONE:
- Gold loans: Muthoot FinCorp lends from its own books. On its Restart India Pradhan and Easy Scale Up schemes, it shares loans with banks under co-lending deals. It names DCB Bank, UCO Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Axis Bank and Punjab & Sind Bank.
- Loyalty Loan: a small pre-approved loan of ₹45,000 to ₹75,000 for people who already borrow from Muthoot Capital Services. That's a separate NBFC in the same group.
- Other personal loans: here the app is a marketplace. The partner list names Bajaj Finance, Tata Capital, IDFC First Bank, Hero Fincorp, Poonawalla Fincorp and a few others. The Play listing says the partner alone decides the rate, fees and approval.
So check the lender on your papers. A gold loan should say Muthoot FinCorp, and a personal loan should name a partner.
Is Muthoot FinCorp RBI registered? How we checked
Yes. We checked on 4 November 2026, and you can repeat each step yourself.
- Open RBI's list of registered NBFCs. The edition we read is dated 15 October 2026. It covers companies registered as on 30 September 2026.
- Search for "Muthoot Fincorp". It sits at entry 4703 as Muthoot Fincorp Limited, once called Muthoot Debt Management Services Limited. RBI's Thiruvananthapuram office supervises it.
- Match the company number. The register shows CIN U65929KL1997PLC011518. The same number is printed at the foot of Muthoot FinCorp's website.
- Read the class. It's an investment and credit company in the Middle Layer. It doesn't take public deposits.
- Don't mix up the rows. Entry 4702, just above, is Muthoot Finance Limited, an Upper Layer NBFC with a different CIN. Entry 4701 is Muthoot Capital Services.
- Check the app link. Muthoot FinCorp's regulatory page names Muthoot FinCorp ONE as its digital lending platform.
RBI's directory of digital lending apps didn't load when we tried, so the app's entry there is unconfirmed. Our guide on how to check if a loan app is RBI approved shows where to search it.
Also look at RBI's press releases. In an order of 24 September 2025, RBI fined Muthoot FinCorp ₹2.70 lakh. The reason was narrow: rejected complaints weren't passed on automatically to its Internal Ombudsman. RBI said the fine doesn't judge any customer's loan. Its grievance policy from 11 February 2026 now includes that step.
What a Muthoot FinCorp gold loan costs
Most of the detail sits in a rate chart dated 16 July 2026, linked from the gold loan page. Here are the main terms.
Term | What's published | Where we read it |
|---|---|---|
Loan amount | From ₹1,000, top limit "as per policy" | Play listing |
Tenure | 180 to 365 days (6 to 12 months) | Play listing |
Starting rate | 9.6% a year on Play, 9.95% on the website | Play listing, gold loan page |
Base rates | 10.95% to 24% a year, by scheme | Rate chart, July 2026 |
Highest slab | 30% a year | Rate chart, interest rate policy |
Processing fee | Nil to ₹1,000 flat by scheme, GST included | Rate chart |
Foreclosure | Nil (minimum 7 days' interest if closed within 7 days) | Play listing |
Notice charges | ₹12 ordinary, ₹26 registered, ₹30 auction notice | Rate chart |
Auction charge | 2% of auction value, up to ₹2,000 plus GST | Rate chart |
APR | Not published | None |
How the slabs work. Each scheme starts at a reduced rate that holds while you pay interest promptly. Miss the window and a higher rate applies, counted from the last date you paid. Take the Pradhan scheme in the company's own example. It's 12.99% if you pay within 30 days, 15% after that, and 19.20% once 60 days pass.
The worked example. The Play listing shows ₹5,00,000 at 12.99% for 180 days, with interest paid every 30 days. Interest comes to ₹32,030 and the fee is ₹1,000, so you'd pay ₹5,33,030 in all. That's about ₹5,338 of interest every 30 days. If the fee comes out of the loan, ₹4,99,000 reaches your account.
How much you can borrow. No maximum is printed. It depends on your gold's net weight, its purity (18 to 22 carat is accepted) and RBI's loan-to-value cap. RBI lets lenders give up to 85% of the gold's worth on consumption loans of ₹2.5 lakh or less. The cap falls to 80% up to ₹5 lakh and 75% beyond.
Personal loans. The Play listing shows partner loans between ₹25,000 and ₹1 crore, repaid in 3 to 60 months, at 9.99% to 30%. The matched lender, not Muthoot FinCorp, sets the real terms.
Why some people think Muthoot FinCorp is fake
We found no sign that the app or company is fake. The doubts come from a few genuine problems.
- The rate went up. This is the biggest source of anger in reviews. One October 2026 reviewer says they were quoted less and later charged 23% or more. Another, in Hindi, says 15% was shown but 24% was taken. That fits how the slabs behave when interest is late.
- Three starting rates. Play says 9.6%, the gold loan page says 9.95%, and the chart starts at 10.95%, for new branches only. Mismatches like this make any lender look shifty.
- The app sends people to the branch. Reviewers describe failed interest payments, top-up errors and closures that couldn't be paid by NEFT or RTGS. Frustrating, but not fraud.
- Calls nobody asked for. One reviewer says the calls started without ever signing up. The privacy policy lets the company share details with group companies for marketing.
- A police complaint in Amravati. Navbharat Live wrote on 6 August 2026 that 13 people had gone to the City Kotwali police about one employee at a local branch. They spoke of payments without receipts and less gold handed back. Police were looking into it, and we don't know how it ended.
That last item is an allegation against one person, not a finding against the company. Some worries are just how gold loans work. Branch checks of the gold, original KYC papers and auction notices after long defaults are standard.
What borrowers say about Muthoot FinCorp ONE
As of November 2026, the app holds 4.4 stars from 57,807 ratings on Google Play, with more than 1 crore downloads. Its last update came on 28 October 2026.
We read the newest month of reviews. The praise is mostly about branch staff, like a friendly team in Chikmagalur, and an app that's easy when it works. The complaints are longer and more specific: rates above the quote, failed payments and closures that needed a branch trip.
Treat the stars with care. Most recent five-star reviews are one or two words, such as "good". The line "good service more product available is way" was posted word for word on 13, 20, 22 and 23 October 2026. Replies are all the same template. That doesn't prove anything is bought, but the detailed one-star posts say more.
How to spot a fake Muthoot FinCorp app, agent or call
Muthoot FinCorp's homepage warns that some people hand out fake sanction letters, cash receipts and investment offers in its name, then ask for money. Run these checks before you share anything.
- No advance fees. The company says it never asks for advance money, deposits or a processing fee to sanction a loan. That goes for its agents too, whether in cash or into a personal account.
- Pay only into the company's account. Payments should go to Muthoot FinCorp's own bank account, as given by staff at a registered branch. A personal UPI ID is a warning sign.
- Never share PINs. The company says it never asks for your PIN, CVV or internet banking password.
- Install only from Google Play. The real app is Muthoot FinCorp ONE, and its developer details name Muthoot FinCorp Limited. Don't install an APK sent by link or WhatsApp.
- Use numbers from the company's own site. Muthoot FinCorp's own toll-free line is 1800 102 1616. Numbers from search ads can be fake.
- Question any personal loan offer. Muthoot FinCorp doesn't publish a personal loan of its own. If a caller offers one in its name and wants a fee first, hang up.
What to do if something goes wrong
Go to the company first, and save every reply you get. Then move up the ladder.
- Customer care. Ring 1800 102 1616, free of charge. It answers from 9 am until 6 pm, Monday through Saturday, but not on national holidays. Email and a WhatsApp chat in the ONE app also work.
- Your branch. For payments, closures and gold release, the branch is often quicker. The company also holds a Grievance Day on the first Friday of each month.
- Grievance Officer. Still unhappy? Write to Ms. Julia Mathew, the Grievance Officer, or ring 0471-4911626.
- RBI ombudsman. If the complaint isn't settled within 30 days, file it at cms.rbi.org.in or call 14448.
- Fraud. If someone took money while posing as Muthoot FinCorp, call the cybercrime helpline on 1930 straight away.
Two RBI rules help gold borrowers. Your gold must come back within seven working days of paying in full. And every charge, auction costs included, must appear in your loan agreement and Key Fact Statement. Every contact is on our Muthoot FinCorp customer care page.
Should you use Muthoot FinCorp ONE?
It can suit you if you have gold jewellery and need money for a few months. It works best if paying monthly interest is easy for you and a branch is close by.
Look elsewhere if you might miss interest dates or can't risk an auction of your jewellery. For an unsecured personal loan, go straight to a regulated lender.
Regulated alternatives worth comparing:
- Oro Money is another gold loan option we've reviewed. Compare its Key Fact Statement with a branch quote here.
- Bajaj Finserv offers unsecured personal loans, and Bajaj Finance is one of ONE's partners.
- Tata Capital is another large partner lender. Going direct lets you read its own terms first.

Frequently asked questions
Is Muthoot FinCorp loan app real or fake?
It's real. Muthoot FinCorp ONE is the official app of Muthoot FinCorp Limited, a gold lender in the Muthoot Pappachan Group. Google Play lists the company as the legal entity. We found no RBI caution or Play removal. Most complaints are about rates and app glitches, not fake loans.
Is Muthoot FinCorp RBI registered?
Yes. Muthoot FinCorp Limited is entry 4703 on RBI's list of NBFCs as on 30 September 2026. It's a Middle Layer company that doesn't take public deposits, and it lends gold loans itself. Personal loans in the app come from other regulated lenders, so check the lender named on your papers.
What is the real cost of a Muthoot FinCorp gold loan?
Base rates in the July 2026 chart range between 10.95% and 24% a year. Fees are flat, from nil to ₹1,000, with GST included. Those rates assume you pay interest on time. If you pay late, a higher slab kicks in, backdated to your last payment, and some schemes reach 30%. There's no foreclosure fee after 7 days.
What is the Muthoot FinCorp customer care number?
Call 1800 102 1616, which is toll free. Lines open at 9 am and close at 6 pm, Monday through Saturday, except on national holidays. If a complaint isn't sorted, ask for the Grievance Officer, Ms. Julia Mathew, whose published number is 0471-4911626. Use only numbers from the company's website or app.
Does Muthoot FinCorp harass borrowers or make fake calls?
We found no RBI or police action over recovery harassment. Some reviewers do complain about marketing calls they didn't ask for. Fake calls in the company's name are a separate risk, and Muthoot FinCorp warns about them. It says it never asks for advance fees, deposits or payments into personal accounts.
How do I close a Muthoot FinCorp gold loan?
Pay the full interest and principal, then collect your gold from the branch. There's no foreclosure fee, though closing within 7 days costs at least 7 days' interest. Some reviewers say closure payments by NEFT or RTGS weren't accepted, so ask your branch how to pay. RBI rules say the gold must come back within seven working days.
Is Muthoot FinCorp the same as Muthoot Finance?
No. They're separate companies with separate RBI registrations. Muthoot FinCorp runs the ONE app, while Muthoot Finance runs an app called iMuthoot. On RBI's list, Muthoot Finance sits in the Upper Layer and Muthoot FinCorp in the Middle Layer. Each one handles only its own loans and complaints.
