Shriram Finance Loan App Real or Fake? What Shriram One Really Is

Shriram Finance's loan app is real. It's called Shriram One, and its personal loans come from Shriram Finance Limited itself. That's a large NBFC registered with the Reserve Bank of India. With no middleman, it's easier to check than most loan apps.

Real doesn't mean cheap, though. The 11% starting rate is only a floor, and Shriram's own policy lets digital personal loans go up to 36%. Before you accept an offer, read two lines in the Key Fact Statement (KFS): the APR and the foreclosure rule. Early closure can be blocked for the first 12 months.

Quick answer

  • A real company: Shriram Finance Limited of Chennai, once called Shriram Transport Finance, publishes the Shriram One app.
  • RBI registered: it's entry 6915 in RBI's list of NBFCs, in the Upper Layer, and it's allowed to take deposits.
  • It lends directly: no partner NBFC sits in between. Shriram names Shriram One as its own lending app.
  • The price: an APR of 11% to 36% on the app, a fee of up to 5%, and up to 4% to close early.
  • Watch for: two RBI fines in 2025, fake "Shriram" pages and agents, and patchy service in the app.

Who runs Shriram One and who lends the money

Shriram One is built and published by Shriram Finance Limited. Its Google Play listing shows that name as the developer, and Shriram's website links to the same app. The registered office is in Guindy, Chennai, and the corporate office is in the Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

RBI's list still shows the company as "formerly Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited". It lends for vehicles, gold and small businesses, sells fixed deposits and says it has over 2800 branches.

The app does a lot more than loans: FDs, UPI, bill payments, recharges and insurance all live there. After you apply for the personal loan, Shriram says a customer care executive will call you to finish the process. So this is not a fully automatic instant loan.

Shriram uses outside partners for some products: CreditMantri brings in personal loan leads, and Paytm and PhonePe handle merchant loans. Shriram Finance stays the lender in each case.

One name to keep apart is Shriram Housing Finance. It's now a separate company called Truhome Finance, bought by Warburg Pincus, as afaqs reported in January 2025. This post covers only the Shriram One personal loan.

Is Shriram Finance RBI registered? How we checked

RBI licenses lenders, not apps. So the test is simple: is the lender on RBI's list, and does it claim the app? Our checks below date from 4 November 2026, and each one is quick to redo.

  1. Write down the lender's full name. For Shriram One, it's Shriram Finance Limited. Your KFS and loan agreement should print the same name.
  2. Search RBI's NBFC register. Ours was the quarterly edition dated 15 October 2026, which covers firms registered at the end of September.
  3. Match the entry. Shriram Finance is entry 6915, under RBI's Chennai office, marked Upper Layer. The CIN is L65191TN1979PLC007874.
  4. Check that the lender names the app. Shriram's "Lending Service Provider" page lists Shriram One and its website as its own digital lending apps.
  5. Try RBI's directory of lending apps. RBI's home page links to it as "DLA's deployed by Regulated Entities". When we tried, RBI's report timed out, so we couldn't tick this one off. Give it a go yourself.
  6. Look for RBI action. Search RBI's press releases for the lender's name. For Shriram Finance, we found two small fines in 2025, explained below.

What a Shriram One personal loan costs

Shriram publishes its prices in three places: the personal loan pages, the Play listing and its Interest Rate Policy. They mostly agree, but not on every line. Here's each term as of November 2026.

Shriram's Play listing includes a worked example. You borrow ₹1,00,000 for 24 months at 12% a year. The EMI is ₹4,707, so you repay ₹1,12,968, of which ₹12,968 is interest. The fee is ₹2,000 before GST, which leaves ₹98,000 to be paid out.

Add 18% GST and the fee becomes ₹2,360, so about ₹97,640 reaches your bank. Shriram calls these numbers indicative, and your rate depends on your credit record and income.

That example sits at the cheap end. At 36%, the top of the digital range, the same loan would have an EMI of about ₹5,905. You'd pay about ₹41,700 in interest. A 5% fee would be ₹5,000, or ₹5,900 with GST.

Leaving early has its own costs. After the lock-in, the fee is capped at 4% of what you still owe. If another lender takes the loan over, add 2% more. One Shriram city page says prepayment can cost up to 5%, and its FAQ page says you can foreclose "at any time". Ask for the foreclosure terms in writing before you sign.

There's one softer exit. If you change your mind during the cooling-off period on a digital loan, you repay the principal and interest for the days used. Shriram keeps a fee of 1% of the loan amount.

Why some people think Shriram Finance is fake

Shriram Finance is not a fake lender. But a few real problems make people uneasy, and some of that worry is fair.

  • RBI fines. In July 2025, RBI fined Shriram Finance ₹2.70 lakh because loan repayments went through a third party's account instead of straight to the lender. In February 2025, it fined it ₹5.80 lakh over KYC reviews, agent contracts and credit bureau data. RBI says such fines don't judge customer agreements, and neither one stopped Shriram from lending.
  • Credit report errors. Several reviewers say loans they closed still show on their credit report. That's poor service, not fraud, but it can hurt your next application.
  • Pushy calls. Reviewers describe sales calls right after logging in, and reminder calls that keep coming.
  • Rate surprises. One September 2026 reviewer said a personal loan first quoted at 18% came back at 35% after documents. We can't verify that case, but it shows why the KFS matters.
  • Look-alike names. Fraudsters borrow the Shriram name, as the section on fakes below explains.

Some things that worry people are normal. Any regulated lender asks for PAN, Aadhaar, bank statements and an eNACH mandate. Shriram also reads financial SMS once at sign-up.

The same policy is muddled on contacts and call logs. One line allows a one-time request for that access, and the next denies using it at all. You can refuse optional permissions in your phone settings.

What borrowers say about Shriram One

As of November 2026, Shriram One has 4.3 stars from about 1.88 lakh ratings and over 1 crore downloads on Google Play. Its latest update came on 29 October 2026.

We read the newest reviews, posted from June to early November 2026. Most are about vehicle loans, gold loans, deposits or UPI, so the stars say more about the app than about the personal loan.

The praise is about convenience. People like seeing loan details, paying EMIs, booking FDs and using UPI in one place. Many call the app simple to use.

The complaints go into detail. Users say the app crashes or logs them out, loan details won't load and there's no foreclosure button. Others say NOCs take weeks and emails get only an auto-reply. One reviewer with a pre-approved offer said no money had arrived after 6 days.

Read the stars with some caution. Many five-star reviews are one or two words, like "good" or "nice". Long, polished five-star posts bunch up on the same days, and we found the same five-star text under two different names.

How to spot a fake Shriram Finance app, agent or call

Big names attract copycats. In January 2025, The Tribune reported that police in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, shut a call centre that ran a fake "Shriram Finserv" Facebook page. It took ₹650 to ₹850 as "processing fees" for loans that never came. Police put the fraud at about ₹1.25 crore.

Shriram's own scam guide says genuine lenders don't ask for processing fees or advance payments before approval. Real charges are cut from the loan when it's paid out. Keep these checks in mind:

  • Install only from the official store. On Google Play, the developer must read Shriram Finance Limited. Never install an APK file sent over WhatsApp or SMS.
  • Refuse any payment before payout. Hang up if someone wants money first, whether they call it a fee, insurance or a file charge.
  • Pay only to Shriram Finance. Use the app, the website, eNACH or a branch. Don't send money to a personal UPI ID or private bank account.
  • Keep your codes private. Never share an OTP, MPIN or UPI PIN, even with a caller who says they work for Shriram.
  • Check agents. Shriram's recovery policy says agents may call only between 8 am and 7 pm and must give a receipt for cash. Ask any visitor for ID.
  • Check the number. Compare any helpline against our Shriram Finance customer care page before you call it.

What to do if something goes wrong

Start with Shriram, and put things in writing where you can.

  1. Call or raise a request. Ring 1800 103 4959, the toll-free number for loans, or use Raise a Request in the Shriram One app. Note the ticket number.
  2. Email the right team. Write to grievance@shriramfinance.in for loan problems or appsupport@shriramfinance.in for app faults. Add your loan account number.
  3. Escalate to the grievance officer. If it isn't fixed, contact Ms. Uma Maheswari VR, the Grievance Redressal Officer, on 044-2464 2733. Shriram says it replies within 30 days.
  4. Go to RBI. No answer in 30 days, or an answer you can't accept? Lodge a complaint with RBI's Integrated Ombudsman on its portal, cms.rbi.org.in, or ring 14448.
  5. Act quickly on fraud. If a fake agent or app took your money, dial the cybercrime helpline, 1930, the same day.

Shriram's pages list several different helpline numbers, which is confusing. Our customer care directory covers other lenders too.

Should you use Shriram One for a personal loan?

Shriram One can suit you if:

  • you're salaried with a clean credit record and want a big, regulated lender;
  • you need ₹50,000 or more and are happy to repay over 12 to 60 months;
  • you already borrow or save with Shriram and see a pre-approved offer in the app.

Look elsewhere if:

  • you might repay early, since the lock-in and foreclosure fee can cost you;
  • you're self-employed without a pre-approved offer, as Shriram steers you to a business loan;
  • you want a quick, small loan for a month or so.

Get two or three quotes and compare the APR in each KFS. Other large, regulated lenders worth a quote are Bajaj Finserv, Tata Capital and SMFG India Credit. For our ratings, pros and cons, read our full Shriram Finance review.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Shriram Finance loan app real or fake?

It's real. The app is Shriram One, published on Google Play by Shriram Finance Limited, and Shriram's own website links to it. Shriram Finance is a large NBFC with branches across India. Fake pages and apps do use its name, so install only the listing whose developer reads Shriram Finance Limited.

Is Shriram Finance registered with RBI?

Yes. Shriram Finance Limited is entry 6915 in RBI's NBFC register, in the edition for the end of September 2026. It falls under the Chennai regional office, sits in the Upper Layer and can take deposits. Shriram also lists Shriram One among its own lending apps, so the lender and the app are one company.

How much does a Shriram One personal loan really cost?

The app quotes an APR of 11% to 36%, so the starting rate is only part of the story. Shriram also takes a fee of up to 5%, GST extra, from the payout. Late EMIs can draw penal interest that reaches 36% a year, and a bounce can cost up to ₹1,000. Check the exact APR in your KFS.

What is the Shriram Finance customer care number?

For loans, Shriram's contact page gives the toll-free numbers 1800 103 4959 and 1800 103 6369. Its grievance page lists two other loan numbers, 1800 103 9700 and 1800 103 4300. For app faults, email appsupport@shriramfinance.in. Don't trust numbers from social media posts or random search ads.

What should I do about harassment or fake calls in Shriram's name?

Ask any caller for their name and ID, and never pay before a loan is paid out. Shriram's recovery policy allows calls only from 8 am to 7 pm. Report harassment to grievance@shriramfinance.in and the grievance officer, then to RBI's ombudsman after 30 days. For fraud, call 1930.

Can I cancel or close a Shriram Finance personal loan early?

In the cooling-off period, you can exit a digital loan by repaying the principal and the interest for the days used. Shriram keeps a 1% fee. Later on, a lock-in can block foreclosure for 12 months from your first EMI. After that, the exit fee is capped at 4% of what you owe. Part payment isn't offered.

Does Shriram One give personal loans to self-employed people?

Mostly not. Shriram's personal loan pages aim the loan at salaried workers. If you run a business, you'll need a pre-approved offer from an existing Shriram account; otherwise Shriram suggests a business loan. You also need to live in India, be 21 or older when you apply, and be 60 or younger at the last EMI.
