TapLend Loan App Real or Fake? The Lender, the Fees and the Fine Print
By Anjali Bhargawa · Content Writer Edited by BankCreds Content & SEO Team Updated 30 October 2026 Reviewed by BankCreds Financial Experts TapLend is a real loan app, and it belongs to the lender itself. That lender is Barbarik Finco Private Limited, an RBI-registered NBFC formerly known as Baba Lease and Investment, so the app is not a fake. It is, though, a costly way to borrow, and its own pages disagree on fees, foreclosure and even its registration number.
Before you accept, find one line in the Key Fact Statement: the amount that will actually reach your bank. In the sample loan on TapLend's website, ₹50,000 shrinks to ₹42,890 once fees are taken. Also check how many instalments the autopay mandate covers. Everything here is as of October 2026.
TapLend in brief
- Real company? Yes. TapLend is the in-house app of Barbarik Finco Private Limited, a Delhi NBFC.
- RBI registered? Yes. The NBFC is at serial 972 in RBI's register for 30 September 2026, listed with its former name.
- Cost? High. Interest is 24% to 36% a year. A processing fee, a 2% risk charge and ₹25 for e-signing all come off before payout.
- How long? Short. You repay in 4 to 8 instalments over roughly 64 to 128 days, not in monthly EMIs over a year.
- Trust signals? Mixed. Many five-star reviews talk about renting flats or booking home help, which has nothing to do with loans.
Barbarik Finco, Baba Lease and TapLend: one company, two names
Searchers often get confused here, and TapLend's pages don't help. The Play listing calls TapLend "a product of Baba Lease and Investment Private Limited". The website calls it "a product of Barbarik Finco Private Limited". The developer account on Play still carries the Baba Lease name.
RBI's register settles it. The entry is for Barbarik Finco, with Baba Lease shown in brackets as its old name, under CIN U65929DL1986PTC249297. TapLend's privacy policy prints the same CIN. So this is one company that changed its name, and TapLend is its own app.
The website FAQ muddles things. It describes Barbarik Finco and Baba Lease as two separate partner NBFCs, each with a number of its own. That is misleading, since RBI shows a single renamed company. The footer and About page use B-14.03554, while the home page shows N-07.00784.
A few other loose ends stand out. The About page gives both 2018 and 1986 as the year the company began. The "LSPs & DLAs" page lists no apps at all, only a debt recovery agent, Bpoium Services Private Limited.
How to confirm TapLend's RBI registration
This takes a few minutes and no login. We ran these checks on 30 October 2026:
- Search either name. Open RBI's NBFC register, a PDF on its website, and search "Barbarik". The row also shows "Baba Lease", so either word finds it.
- Read the entry. Serial 972, New Delhi regional office, no public deposits, ICC type, Base layer. The address is the Model Town, Delhi office the app gives.
- Match the CIN. U65929DL1986PTC249297 appears in the register and in TapLend's privacy policy.
- Check the app directory. RBI's list of digital lending apps, sorted by lender, timed out on our end. Search it for "Taplend" yourself.
- Look for alerts. No RBI caution, Sachet alert, police case or news report about TapLend, Barbarik Finco or Baba Lease turned up in our searches. RBI's list of cancelled registrations could not be read.
RBI's register does not print registration numbers, so we could not match either of TapLend's numbers there. If that matters to you, ask the company for its certificate.
TapLend charges and APR, as published
TapLend publishes several sets of numbers. This table shows the main ones, and where each one appears.
Term | Figure | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
Loan amount | ₹1,000 to ₹2,00,000 | Play listing (site footer says from ₹10,000) |
Repayment | 64 to 120 days | Play listing |
Repayment | Up to 128 days, in 4 to 8 instalments | Website and its calculator |
Interest | 24% to 36% a year | Schedule of charges (Play says 0% to 36%) |
Processing fee | 10% of principal, plus 18% GST | Schedule of charges (signed PDF: 2% to 10%) |
Risk assessment fee | 2%, plus 18% GST | Schedule of charges |
Signing fee | Flat ₹25 | Schedule of charges |
APR | Up to 75.99% | Website (Play says up to 125%; footer says 50.88%) |
Late payment | 2% of overdue principal on day 1, then 0.2% a day | Schedule of charges |
Bounced mandate | ₹100, plus GST | Signed PDF |
Foreclosure | 4% | Schedule of charges (a home page card says zero) |
The website's sample loan shows where the money goes. On ₹50,000 for 128 days at 36%, the fees are ₹5,000 for processing, ₹1,000 for risk assessment and ₹25 for signing. GST adds ₹1,084.50. That is ₹7,110 gone before payout, so ₹42,890 reaches you.
You then pay eight instalments of ₹7,050, about every 16 days, for ₹56,400 in all. Put simply, you get ₹42,890 and hand back ₹13,510 more than that within about four months.
TapLend's 75.99% figure treats the whole ₹50,000 as yours, though you only ever hold ₹42,890. Interest also runs on the full principal until the end. Measured against the money you really receive, the yearly cost is higher still.
Foreclosure is muddled too. The schedule says 4%, the signed PDF says you pay interest for the remaining days, and a home page card says zero charges. Get the figure in writing before you prepay.
The red flags behind "TapLend fake" searches
People have good reasons to ask. These are the points that worried us most:
- Reviews that aren't about loans. In August 2026, dozens of five-star posts praised property search filters. TapLend itself replied that it offers no property services and the review "may have been intended for another app". On 27 October 2026, a batch of home-services posts appeared, repeated word for word.
- A template left in a review. One five-star post from 28 October 2025 reads, "If you are writing a 5-star review for Taplend, you could use these phrases".
- Two names, two numbers. The website presents one renamed company as two NBFCs with different numbers.
- Inflated site claims. The site says 4.6 stars and 1.1 Million+ downloads. Play shows 4.5 and 10L+.
- Data sharing. On Play, TapLend declares that SMS, installed apps and approximate location may be shared with other companies. Under its privacy policy, your SMS data can be gathered while the app sits closed.
- Contacts, despite the promise. One page claims "zero access to contact books". But the privacy policy lets third parties see contacts or SMS for "value added services", with your consent.
- Location limits. The site says it serves the whole country. Yet reviewers in Chennai, Bengaluru and Coimbatore say the app isn't open to them, and TapLend's replies talk of "selected locations".
Some of what people find odd is normal. A video selfie for KYC, a bank statement PDF and an autopay mandate are standard for app loans. An NBFC running its own app is also simpler than an app working for a hidden lender.
TapLend ratings and complaints on Google Play
On 30 October 2026, TapLend showed 4.5 stars from 18,349 ratings and 10L+ downloads. It was last updated on 24 October 2026.
Given the off-topic and templated posts above, we don't read that 4.5 as a fair picture. Several one-star ratings even carry praise, such as "Very low interest rate compared to other loan apps". TapLend replies to nearly every review, often asking people to reconsider their rating.
These are the complaints worth knowing about. All are user claims we could not verify:
- Harassment calls. On 16 October 2026, one borrower said they had complained to the cyber cell and police.
- Calls from the due date onwards, then to the reference number, in a 5 May 2026 review.
- An EMI paid on 13 April that still showed as overdue in the app.
- Overdue amounts wrongly sent to CIBIL, per a 22 September 2026 review.
- An autopay mandate set for 36 months, flagged on 24 August 2026.
- A rejection despite a CIBIL score of 762, and three emails to support with no reply.
On the other side, some say money arrived within minutes, and one got a small loan despite a low score. A 3 May 2026 reviewer found the rates "a bit on the higher side", but expected for quick unsecured loans.
Spotting a fake TapLend app or recovery call
- One package only. The genuine app is com.taplend.india. Other TapLend-style package names return nothing on Play, so any look-alike or APK is not the real one.
- Spelling tricks. Reviewers often type "Tapland". TapLend is also not LoanTap, MoneyTap (now Freo) or KredTap, so check the developer before you install.
- No pay-to-borrow. Every TapLend fee is cut from the loan amount. Anyone asking you to pay first by UPI is not TapLend.
- Know the collector. TapLend names Bpoium Services Private Limited as its debt recovery agent. If a caller claims another agency, ask for written proof.
- Mind the clock. Its fair practice code says customer calls happen between 7 am and 7 pm, without harassment. Record calls outside that window and report them.
Complaints: the TapLend escalation path
Collect your loan ID, payment receipts and screenshots of any messages first. Then go step by step:
- Helpline. +91-9355871316 or help@taplend.in. The contact page lists hours from 10 AM until 7 PM, Monday to Saturday, but elsewhere gives shorter weekday hours.
- Grievance officer. Mr. Vikram Yadav, +91-9355871314, grievance@taplend.in.
- Nodal officer. Mr. Mukul Padaliya, +91-9355871315, nodal@taplend.in.
- RBI. The contact page allows escalation after 30 days, while the policy says 30 working days. Use cms.rbi.org.in or the 14448 helpline, and name Barbarik Finco Private Limited.
- Cyber fraud. For morphed photos, threats or cash lost to a fake app, dial 1930. Then take it to the police as well.
Our TapLend customer care page has all of these numbers in one place.
TapLend: who it suits and who should skip it
TapLend may work for a salaried borrower, 21 to 58 years old, with income of ₹15,000 a month or more. Self-employed people need ₹20,000 of monthly turnover. It fits a short, one-off need that you can clear in a few months.
Skip it if losing ₹7,110 of every ₹50,000 to fees would hurt, or if you'd rather pay monthly over a year. Regulated apps such as Zype, Branch and Freo are worth pricing against it. Our scores are in our full TapLend review, and the reviews hub covers many more apps.
Frequently asked questions
Is TapLend real or fake?
Yes, TapLend is real. It is the own app of Barbarik Finco Private Limited, an NBFC on RBI's books that once traded as Baba Lease and Investment. So it is not a fake lender, but it is expensive. Its website example takes ₹7,110 in fees from a ₹50,000 loan, and its pages disagree on several key terms.
Is TapLend RBI registered?
Its lender is. Barbarik Finco Private Limited is at serial 972 in RBI's NBFC register for September 2026, shown with its former name. TapLend's site gives B-14.03554 in its footer and N-07.00784 on the home page, but RBI's list prints neither. RBI's app directory would not respond for us; look TapLend up there yourself.
How much does a TapLend loan cost in total?
On the website's ₹50,000 example, ₹7,110 in fees and GST comes off first, so ₹42,890 reaches you. Eight instalments of ₹7,050 follow over 128 days, or ₹56,400 in total. The interest rate is 24% to 36% a year, and the site puts the APR at up to 75.99%. Play allows an APR of up to 125%.
What is the TapLend customer care number?
Call +91-9355871316 or email help@taplend.in. Calls are taken from 10 AM until 7 PM except Sundays, says the contact page, though it also lists shorter weekday hours. Formal complaints go to grievance officer Mr. Vikram Yadav on +91-9355871314. If that fails, nodal officer Mr. Mukul Padaliya is on +91-9355871315.
What should I do about TapLend recovery calls or harassment?
Keep a log of every call and save recordings. Write to grievance@taplend.in and quote the fair practice code, which promises calls only between 7 am and 7 pm, without harassment. Ask whether the caller works for Bpoium Services, the listed recovery agent. For threats or abuse, call 1930 and go to the police, then to RBI after 30 days.
Can I foreclose a TapLend loan early?
Yes, but the cost is unclear. The schedule of charges lists a 4% foreclosure charge. The signed PDF says interest is charged for the remaining days, and a home page card promises zero charges. Ask the helpline for a written payoff figure first, pay only inside the app, and keep the receipt and the closure letter.
Are Baba Lease and Barbarik Finco the same company?
Yes. RBI's register lists "Barbarik Finco Private Limited (Formerly: Baba Lease and Investment Private Limited)" under one CIN, U65929DL1986PTC249297. The Play developer name was simply never updated. TapLend's website FAQ presents them as two partner NBFCs with separate numbers, which is wrong, so don't let it confuse you.
Why does TapLend say my area is not serviceable?
TapLend lends only in selected locations, going by its own replies on Google Play. Reviewers from Chennai, Bengaluru and Coimbatore were turned away, even though the website claims all of India. If you see that message, stop uploading documents. Apply with a different regulated lender rather than trying again.
