RBL Bank and its cards
RBL Bank run one of the longer card lists of any Indian bank: its all-cards page showed 64 cards when we read it on 5 November 2026. A good part of them are co-brands, made with IndianOil, Shoppers Stop, IRCTC, TVS Credit, Patanjali and several fintech and lending partners, and the list opens with an invite-only card called Lumiere.
In RBI's bank-wise statistics for September 2026 (provisional), RBL BANK LTD shows 47,16,637 credit cards outstanding. A year earlier, in September 2025, the figure was 45,85,190, so the book grew by 1,31,447 cards (47,16,637 minus 45,85,190), about 2.9% (1,31,447 divided by 45,85,190). All banks together grew around 10.4% over the same year, so RBL has been growing slow compared to the market.
That puts RBL seventh in the table, just behind Kotak Mahindra Bank at 48,86,687 and IDFC FIRST Bank at 50,09,549, and its share of the 12,53,15,381 total is about 3.8% (47,16,637 divided by 12,53,15,381). If you are weighing it against those two, our Kotak cards hub and IDFC FIRST hub cover their ranges, and the credit cards guide start from the basics.
The five cards we checked
We researched five RBL cards in full, and they spreads from a monthly-fee starter to a travel card:
- Cookies: ₹100 plus GST a month, no annual fee, aimed at online spends and three brands.
- Shoprite: ₹500 a year, built around groceries.
- IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA: ₹1,500 a year, a fuel card for IndianOil stations.
- Platinum Maxima Plus: ₹2,500 a year, everyday points with lounge visits that depends on your spend.
- World Safari: ₹3,000 a year, with a 0% forex markup.
One thing to get right before comparing fees. RBL's MITC writes the joining fee as nil, but these cards charge an annual fee from the first year itself, so the year-one cost is the same as the yearly fee. Every figure here is before 18% GST, and an add-on card costs ₹200 on all five.
Status notes
All five researched cards are active. The Bajaj Finserv RBL Bank SuperCard is closed to new customers: RBL Bank and Bajaj Finance agreed to stop issuing new co-branded cards, as reported on 2 December 2024, though cards already issued continues, and it is no longer on RBL's current card list. The RBL Bank Play card is live at ₹500 a year, waived on ₹1.5 lakh of spend, but we have not researched it in full.
Picking an RBL card by what you spend on
RBL points are mostly worth ₹0.20 to ₹0.25 each, so a headline like 20 points per ₹100 mean 5% at best. We use the value RBL itself quotes for each card. All five keep rent, utilities, wallets and insurance out of points, and all except the IndianOil card leave out fuel too.
Groceries: Shoprite
Shoprite give 20 reward points per ₹100 at grocery stores, worth up to ₹0.25 each, which is 5%. Grocery points are capped at 1,000 a calendar month, and that cap is used up at ₹5,000 of grocery spend (1,000 points divided by 20 per ₹100), worth ₹250 (1,000 multiplied by ₹0.25). Above it, groceries earn 1 point per ₹100 like everything else. The ₹500 fee is waived if you spend ₹1.5 lakh in the membership year, about ₹12,500 a month (₹1,50,000 divided by 12).
A family spending ₹5,000 a month on groceries would collect about ₹3,000 a year in grocery points (₹250 multiplied by 12), which cover the fee six times over even before any waiver. RBL's network guide lists Shoprite on Mastercard and Visa only, so don't plan on using it for UPI.
Online spends and three brands: Cookies
Cookies costs ₹100 plus GST every month instead of a yearly fee, but the next month's fee is waived whenever eligible spends reach ₹5,000 in a calendar month. Miss that every month and you pay ₹1,200 a year (₹100 multiplied by 12) plus GST. It gives 10% cashback on Zomato, Myntra and Uber for transactions above ₹100, capped at ₹300 per brand a month, so ₹3,000 at each brand fill its cap (₹300 divided by 10%). Online purchases earn 5 points per ₹100 with no stated cap, which at RBL's maximum of ₹0.20 a point is 1%.
Fuel: IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA
The IndianOil XTRA card gives 15 fuel points per ₹100 at listed IndianOil stations, up to 2,000 points a month. Converted to IndianOil XTRAREWARDS and used at the pump, a fuel point is worth ₹0.50, so that is 7.5% back, and the monthly cap is hit at about ₹13,333 of fuel (2,000 divided by 15 per ₹100), worth ₹1,000 (2,000 multiplied by ₹0.50). Redeem on RBL's own rewards portal instead and a point is only ₹0.10. The welcome 3,000 fuel points, given once you pay the annual fee and make a purchase above ₹500 within 30 days, is worth ₹1,500 at the pump (3,000 multiplied by ₹0.50), the same as the fee.
Watch one catch here. RBL's common MITC charges 1% on each fuel transaction above ₹10,000, up to ₹3,000, and it state no exception for this fuel card, so keeping each fill under ₹10,000 avoids it. The fee is waived on ₹2.75 lakh of eligible spend a year, though RBL's card page and T&C word that waiver differently. If you would rather have an IndianOil card from the biggest issuer, our HDFC Bank cards hub covers its IndianOil card.
Dining, entertainment and lounges: Platinum Maxima Plus
Platinum Maxima Plus earns 10 points per ₹100 on dining, entertainment, grocery and international spends and 2 per ₹100 on the rest. RBL's own example values a point at ₹0.25 (67,600 points for ₹16,900), which makes those rates 2.5% and 0.5%. The 1,000-point monthly cap on the faster categories fill at ₹10,000 of spend, worth ₹250 a month.
The fee is ₹2,500 every year with no spend waiver, but the welcome 10,000 points (for using the card within 30 days and paying the fee on time) are worth ₹2,500 at that rate, so year one roughly pays for itself. After that, milestones of 10,000 points each at ₹2 lakh, ₹3.5 lakh and ₹5 lakh a year, up to 30,000 points or ₹7,500 (30,000 multiplied by ₹0.25), does most of the work. Lounge access is 2 domestic visits a quarter, only if you spent ₹35,000 in the quarter before, and BookMyShow gives one free ticket up to ₹200 a month when you buy two or more.
Travel abroad: World Safari
World Safari is the RBL card for foreign spends. Its forex markup is 0%, against 3.5% on most RBL cards, so ₹1 lakh spent abroad saves ₹3,500 before GST (3.5% of ₹1,00,000). Since the fee is ₹3,000 with no waiver, it pay for itself once you spend about ₹85,714 a year in foreign currency (₹3,000 divided by 3.5%).
Travel spends earn 5 points per ₹100 and domestic purchases 2, but RBL does not publish what a World Safari point is worth, so we can't put a rupee figure on it, and international spends other than travel earns no points at all. You get 2 Priority Pass visits a year outside India plus one more for each quarter with ₹50,000 of spend, 2 domestic lounge visits a quarter after ₹35,000 in the previous quarter, and travel insurance with a USD 50,000 sum insured. The welcome is a ₹3,000 MakeMyTrip voucher, valid for 120 days.
If you travel only once a year, check it against a card whose fee is waived on spend. Our compare page puts two cards side by side.
Lifetime free or secured
None of the five cards we researched is lifetime free. RBL does charge a lower rate on secured cards, 2.5% a month against up to 3.99% on the others, but the secured cards themselves wasn't part of our research.
RBL charges and what they cost in rupees
These come from RBL's MITC and its Schedule of Charges dated 4 June 2026. GST at 18% is added to every one of them.
Interest depends on your credit score
RBL doesn't charge everyone the same interest. The rate depend on your bureau score, and the gap is real money.
| Bureau score | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Above 775 | 3.35% | 40.2% |
| 725 to 775 | 3.85% | 46.2% |
| Below 725 | 3.99% | 47.88% |
| Secured cards | 2.5% | 30% |
The yearly figures for the first two rows are the monthly rate multiplied by 12, the same way RBL turns 3.99% into 47.88%. Interest builds daily, so ₹20,000 carried for 30 days costs about ₹661 at 3.35% (₹20,000 multiplied by 40.2%, multiplied by 30, divided by 365) and about ₹787 at 3.99% (₹20,000 multiplied by 47.88%, multiplied by 30, divided by 365). Same balance, ₹126 more, only because of the score. Purchases get up to 50 interest-free days, but only when the previous bill was paid in full.
Late fee
Since 17 October 2025 the late fee is 12.5% of the total outstanding, never less than ₹5 and never more than ₹1,300, and RBL levies it only once the account is more than 3 days past due. Because it's a percentage, it climb quickly: ₹2,000 outstanding means ₹250, ₹8,000 means ₹1,000, and from ₹10,400 upward it's the full ₹1,300 (₹1,300 divided by 12.5%).
Fees on particular spends
- Rent (MCC 6513): 1% of the payment, so ₹20,000 of rent adds ₹200.
- Fuel and auto: 1% on each transaction above ₹10,000, at most ₹3,000 a transaction.
- Utilities: 1% once the month's utility spends on one card goes above ₹50,000.
- Education through third-party apps: 1%, and nothing when you pay on the school or college's own website or machine.
- FASTag and tolls: 1% on transactions above ₹10,000, since 7 January 2026.
- Cash advance: 2.5% with a ₹500 minimum, plus interest from the day of withdrawal, so any withdrawal up to ₹20,000 cost the flat ₹500 (₹500 divided by 2.5%).
- Forex markup: 3.5% by default, 0% on World Safari, World Safari Lite, World Safari Plus and Lumiere, 2% on Nova and 1.5% on Insignia, iGlobe and World Xclusive.
- Over-limit: nil, RBL does not charge it.
- Smaller charges: merchant EMI processing at 1.5% or ₹150, whichever is higher; ₹100 for paying the bill in cash at an RBL branch; ₹500 for a bounced cheque or auto-debit; ₹99 for each day you redeem points, however many redemptions you make that day.
Minimum due
RBL's minimum amount due add up all GST and the month's EMI, then the larger of ₹200 or all fees and charges plus 5% of retail spends, cash advance and interest, plus any unpaid minimum from before and any over-limit amount. Paying only that keeps the account current, but interest keeps running on the rest at your score-based rate.
RBL card changes, 2024 to 2026
RBL's changes over the last two years has mostly been about fees and conditions rather than earn rates. Here they are by date.
| Date | Change | Cards |
|---|---|---|
| 15 Oct 2024 | Quasi-cash, education, government services, contracted services, cash and Bills2Pay stop earning points; excluded categories stop counting toward the fee waiver | Shoprite |
| 2 Dec 2024 (reported) | RBL Bank and Bajaj Finance stop issuing new co-branded cards; existing cards continue | Bajaj Finserv RBL Bank SuperCard |
| 1 Jul 2025 | Domestic lounge access needs ₹35,000 of spend in the previous calendar quarter | World Safari |
| 17 Oct 2025 | Late fee becomes 12.5% of total outstanding, minimum ₹5, maximum ₹1,300 | All five researched cards |
| 7 Jan 2026 | 1% fee on FASTag loading and toll payments above ₹10,000 per transaction | Cards in the Schedule of Charges |
| 4 Jun 2026 | Current Schedule of Charges version issued | All cards |
What this mean in practice. The late fee change matters most if you ever miss a due date: under a percentage rule a ₹6,000 balance attracts ₹750, while a ₹9,000 one attracts ₹1,125 (12.5% of ₹9,000), so the fee now grows with what you owe until it hits the ₹1,300 ceiling.
The World Safari lounge rule means the 2 domestic visits a quarter now depend on about ₹11,667 a month of spend (₹35,000 divided by 3), and Platinum Maxima Plus uses the same ₹35,000 test. The toll fee only touches people who load large FASTag amounts in one go, since anything up to ₹10,000 a transaction is free of it. If Shoprite was your tool for reaching the fee waiver through government bills or Bills2Pay payments, those no longer counts toward the ₹1.5 lakh since October 2024.
Applying for an RBL credit card
RBL publishes no age or income criteria for four of the five cards we researched. The exception is the IndianOil cards, where the age band is 21 to 70, and even there no income figure is given and approval is subject to the bank's internal policy. So unlike banks that print an income line, you finds out only when you apply.
The application is online, from the Apply Now link on each card page. PAN is a mandatory field, you declare your net monthly income, and KYC is done through Aadhaar e-KYC, Video KYC, biometric KYC, offline KYC or an existing CKYC record. RBL say processing takes up to 20 days once your KYC and other details are complete.
What RBL will look at
RBI's rules make the bank assess your own capacity to repay and set a limit after counting the credit limits you already have with other lenders. Your bureau score counts twice at RBL, once in that credit check and again for the interest rate, since 775 and 725 are the cut-offs in its rate table. Experian says scores above 750 are generally considered good on its 300 to 900 scale. If RBL turn you down, it must tell you the specific reasons in writing.
Choosing a network and UPI
Where a card comes on more than one network, RBL let you pick Mastercard, RuPay or Visa when you apply, and existing cardholders can ask for another network on +91 22 6232 7777. RuPay versions, such as the IndianOil XTRA card, can be linked to UPI for merchant payments. Offline UPI payments under ₹2,000 at small merchants with turnover up to ₹20 lakh earns no reward points on RBL RuPay cards, though.
Rights you keep from day one
As a commercial bank, RBL works under RBI's credit card Directions of 28 November 2025. You must give clear consent, written or digital, before any card is issued, and an unsolicited card or upgrade that gets billed has to be reversed with a penalty of twice the charges. Ask RBL to close your card and it has 7 working days to do it once dues are paid, after which it owes you ₹500 a calendar day. You can also move your billing date at least once to suit when your salary come in.
RBL Bank card customer care
RBL's contact page gives +91 22 6232 7777 for card support, covering billing, payments and activation. The MITC also lists a toll-free number, 1800 102 6222. Use the +91 22 number as well if you want an other network on your existing card.
If a complaint isn't sorted, escalate it within RBL first, and if there's no reply in 30 days or you are unhappy with the answer, the RBI Ombudsman is the next step. Keep the complaint reference number from your first call, it make the escalation quicker.
