IDFC FIRST Bank as a card issuer

Since 9 September 2026 every IDFC FIRST credit card charge zero forex markup, including on dynamic currency conversion. A few weeks later, from 26 October 2026, most of them stopped earning reward points on international spends, except Ashva, Mayura, Gaj:, FIRST Private, FIRST WOW!, FIRST WOW! Black and IndiGo. On 13 September 2026 the bank also said its cashback cards keep cashback on spends abroad. That trade, cheaper spending abroad but fewer points for it, sum up how this bank has been tuning its cards.

The growth is the other story. RBI's figures show 50,09,549 IDFC FIRST credit cards outstanding in September 2026 against 40,49,878 in September 2025. That is 9,59,671 more cards (50,09,549 minus 40,49,878), a rise of about 23.7% in a year (9,59,671 divided by 40,49,878). The bank's own investor presentation for Q2 FY27 says cards in force crossed 5 million on 30 September 2026 and its card book stood at ₹9,875 crore, up 14.3% year on year. If you are comparing banks, our credit cards hub lists the others.

The range is wide at the bottom and short at the top. Lifetime free with no spend condition: FIRST Millennia, FIRST Classic, FIRST Select and FIRST Wealth, plus the FD-backed FIRST WOW!. Low-fee cards: FIRST EA₹N, ₹499 to join per the MITC though the card page shows ₹0 under a limited-period offer, and FIRST Power+ at ₹499, an HPCL fuel card. At the top sits two metal cards, Ashva at ₹2,999 and Mayura at ₹5,999, alongside the IndiGo IDFC FIRST card at ₹4,999, all plus GST. Gaj: and FIRST Private are metal cards by invitation only.

What stands out

  • No forex markup on any card, and points on Ashva and Mayura that never expire.
  • Interest set for each cardholder, between 0.71% and 3.85% a month, rather than one rate for everyone.
  • Rewards accrue only on spends up to your credit limit in a cycle, and a cycle's rewards gets cancelled if the minimum due isn't paid on time.
  • No shopping co-brand at all: the bank's co-brands are IndiGo, HPCL (Power and Power+) and LIC.

Status notes

The Club Vistara IDFC FIRST card programme have ended on 30 September 2026. From 1 October 2026 the card can't be used, and Maharaja Points earned up to 30 September moved to the linked Maharaja Club account, even though the October 2026 MITC still lists its ₹4,999 fee. Business and corporate cards also exist, but they are not consumer cards and are left out here.
