IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA Credit Card Review: 7.5% Back at IndianOil
The IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA Credit Card earns 15 fuel points per ₹100 at IndianOil, worth 7.5% when redeemed as fuel at 50 paise a point, up to 2,000 points a month, plus 2 points per ₹100 on most other spends. Instead of a joining fee, RBL bills a ₹1,500 + GST annual fee starting in year one, and its terms waive it when eligible spends reach ₹2.75 lakh in a year. It pays off for people who fill up often at IndianOil and redeem their points at the pump.

IndianOil XTRA in brief
XTRA is the richer of RBL Bank's two IndianOil co-brand cards. It comes on Mastercard or RuPay, and the RuPay version works on UPI and carry National Common Mobility Card features. At select IndianOil stations it earns 15 fuel points per ₹100, and once converted for fuel at IndianOil a point is worth ₹0.50, so that is 7.5% back. RBL's headline of "8.5% Valueback" adds the 1% fuel surcharge waiver on top.
Three details decides how good it really is for you:
- Where you redeem. At the pump a point is ₹0.50; on RBL's rewards portal it's ₹0.10, five time less.
- The fee. You pay ₹1,500 plus GST as an annual fee starting in year one, not as a joining fee, and the terms waive it at ₹2.75 lakh of eligible spends a year.
- Big fills. RBL's common terms charge 1% on any fuel or auto transaction above ₹10,000, and no exemption is stated for this fuel card.
Status and recent changes
The card is active and open for applications. Two RBL-wide changes touch it: since 17 October 2025 a late payment costs 12.5% of what's outstanding, never under ₹5 or over ₹1,300, and since 7 January 2026 FASTag top-ups and toll payments over ₹10,000 carry 1%. RBL also disclose that it has a revenue-sharing arrangement with IndianOil for this card, as RBI rules require for co-brands. The bank's full range is on our RBL Bank credit cards page, and the basics of surcharge waivers are in our fuel credit cards guide.
What XTRA costs
RBL bills XTRA as a yearly membership: ₹1,500 plus GST in year one and again each year, with no joining fee as such. With tax that's ₹1,770 (₹1,500 plus ₹270, which is 18% of ₹1,500). Each add-on card cost ₹200 plus GST.
The waiver, worded with care
RBL's terms say that a cardmember who makes valid transactions of ₹2.75 lakh or more in a year gets an annual fee waiver of ₹1,500. That works out to about ₹22,917 a month (₹2,75,000 divided by 12), and excluded categories like utilities, insurance and rent doesn't count. The card page, though, says the waiver benefit applies only if the annual fee is paid. Read together, it seem the fee may be billed first and reversed later, so ask RBL how it will work on your account before counting on it.
Interest and penalties
Interest is up to 3.99% a month, 47.88% a year, and RBL sets it by bureau score: a score above 775 gets 3.35% a month (40.20% a year), 725 to 775 gets 3.85%, and below 725 pays 3.99%. On ₹12,000 carried for a month, that's ₹402 at 3.35% (3.35% of ₹12,000) against ₹478.80 at 3.99% (3.99% of ₹12,000). The interest free period are up to 50 days.
Pay late and RBL takes 12.5% of your total outstanding as the fee (₹5 at least, ₹1,300 at most), but only after the account has stayed past due beyond 3 days. On ₹6,000 outstanding it's ₹750 (12.5% of ₹6,000); on ₹40,000 it would be ₹5,000, so the ₹1,300 ceiling apply. Cash advances cost 2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500, with finance charges from the day of withdrawal. Over-limit fee is nil.
Spend fees
- Any fuel or auto bill over ₹10,000 attracts 1%, capped at ₹3,000 for one transaction. Keep fills at ₹10,000 or under.
- Rent payments 1%. Utility bills 1% once they cross ₹50,000 in a month. School or college fees paid via CRED, PhonePe, Paytm or similar apps 1%; paid directly on the institution's site or POS, no fee.
- FASTag top-ups and toll payments over ₹10,000: 1%, since 7 January 2026.
- Foreign currency markup 3.5%. Converting a purchase to merchant EMI costs ₹150 or 1.5%, the higher one. Cash payment at a branch ₹100, cheque return ₹500.
- Reward redemption ₹99 plus GST per redemption day. GST of 18% is added to all charges.

Fuel points, explained
- IndianOil fuel: 15 fuel points per ₹100 at select IndianOil stations listed by RBL, capped at 2,000 points a month. The cap comes at ₹13,333 of fuel (2,000 divided by 15, times ₹100), worth ₹1,000 at ₹0.50 a point (2,000 times ₹0.50).
- Other purchases: 2 fuel points per ₹100, which is 1% at pump value (2 times ₹0.50 is ₹1 on ₹100).
- Nothing on: utilities, insurance, quasi-cash, railways, real estate and rent, education, wallets, government services, contracted services, cash, miscellaneous, Bills2Pay, EMI conversions, and fees, charges and GST.
One more rule for the RuPay card. Offline UPI payments under ₹2,000 at small merchants, those with turnover up to ₹20 lakh, earn no points.
Turning points into fuel
The value hinge on the conversion. Three fuel points become 5 IndianOil XTRAREWARDS points, and each XTRAREWARDS point is worth ₹0.30 at IndianOil, so 3 fuel points give ₹1.50 (5 times ₹0.30), or ₹0.50 each. On RBL's own rewards portal a fuel point is only ₹0.10, which takes the 7.5% down to 1.5% (15 times ₹0.10 is ₹1.50 on ₹100), and RBL charge ₹99 plus GST per redemption day there. RBL's MITC lists the fee as waived on IOCL card conversions above 5,000 points. Points not redeemed within 24 months expire, though RBL doesn't say separately if this applies to fuel points.
The welcome gift is 3,000 fuel points, ₹1,500 at the pump, for a retail transaction above ₹500 within 30 days, after the annual fee is paid. Every calendar quarter with ₹75,000 or more of eligible purchases add 1,000 points, so ₹500. The surcharge waiver gives 1% back on fills of ₹500 to ₹4,000, up to ₹200 a month.
Three drivers, worked out
- ₹13,000 a month: fuel ₹5,000 in two fills of ₹2,500 earns 750 points (₹5,000 divided by 100, times 15), other spends of ₹6,000 earn 120 (times 2), and ₹2,000 of bills earn none. Month 870 points (750 plus 120), ₹435 (870 times ₹0.50); year ₹5,220 (₹435 times 12). Surcharge back ₹50 a month (1% of ₹5,000), ₹600 a year. Total ₹5,820 (₹5,220 plus ₹600). Eligible spends are ₹1,32,000 a year (₹5,000 plus ₹6,000 is ₹11,000, times 12), short of ₹2.75 lakh, so the ₹1,770 fee have to be paid and the net is ₹4,050 (₹5,820 minus ₹1,770). Quarterly spend of ₹33,000 (₹11,000 times 3) miss the milestone.
- ₹28,000 a month: fuel ₹10,000 in four fills earns 1,500 points, other spends ₹15,000 earn 300, bills ₹3,000 earn none. Month 1,800 points (1,500 plus 300), ₹900; year ₹10,800 (₹900 times 12). Surcharge ₹100 a month, ₹1,200 a year. Each quarter has ₹75,000 of eligible spends (₹25,000 times 3), so 4 milestones bring 4,000 points, ₹2,000, and surcharge plus milestones make ₹3,200 (₹1,200 plus ₹2,000). Total ₹14,000 (₹10,800 plus ₹1,200 plus ₹2,000). At ₹3,00,000 a year (₹25,000 times 12) the fee should be waived; if it's billed anyway, the net is ₹12,230 (₹14,000 minus ₹1,770).
- ₹55,000 a month: fuel ₹16,000 in four fills of ₹4,000 would earn 2,400 points (₹16,000 divided by 100, times 15) but stops at 2,000, so 400 points or ₹200 are lost. Other spends ₹30,000 add 600, and ₹5,000 bills plus ₹4,000 insurance earn none. Month 2,600 points (2,000 plus 600), ₹1,300 (2,600 times ₹0.50); year ₹15,600 (₹1,300 times 12). Surcharge ₹160 a month (1% of ₹16,000, under the ₹200 cap), ₹1,920 a year. Milestones ₹2,000, so ₹3,920 with the surcharge (₹1,920 plus ₹2,000). Total ₹19,520 (₹15,600 plus ₹1,920 plus ₹2,000), fee waived.
| Driver | Monthly spend | Fuel at IndianOil | Points value a year | Surcharge and milestones | Total a year | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | ₹13,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹5,220 | ₹600 | ₹5,820 | ₹1,770 paid |
| Typical | ₹28,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹10,800 | ₹3,200 | ₹14,000 | Waived |
| Heavy | ₹55,000 | ₹16,000 | ₹15,600 | ₹3,920 | ₹19,520 | Waived |
All this assume you redeem at IndianOil. On RBL's portal, divide the points value by five.

Applying for IndianOil XTRA
RBL says people aged 21 to 70 are eligible for its IndianOil cards, subject to the bank's internal policy. That is the only rule it publishes; no income figure is given. The application form still ask your net monthly income, so the bank is clearly weighing it.
What the form asks for
- PAN, which is mandatory.
- Net monthly income.
- KYC by any of Aadhaar e-KYC, a video call, biometrics, offline documents, or your CKYC record.
The process
You apply online through the Apply Now link on the card page. Once KYC and your details is in, RBL puts processing at up to 20 days. You can choose Mastercard or RuPay at the start; existing cardmembers can ask for the other network on +91 22 6232 7777. Pick RuPay if UPI payments matter to you.
What decides approval
Your credit score do double duty at RBL. It shapes the approval and also your interest rate, because RBL charges 3.35% a month above 775 and 3.99% below 725. Under the RBI's 2025 Directions the bank must assess your own means and the limits you hold elsewhere, and a rejection must come with written reasons. A card cannot be issued without your explicit consent, and you can close it within seven working days on request once dues are paid. The decision is RBL's alone. For service, RBL's card line is +91 22 6232 7777, and its MITC also lists the toll-free 1800 102 6222.

Who XTRA works for
The ideal holder drives a car, fills at IndianOil three or four times a month in fills of ₹4,000 or less, and redeem the points at the pump. That person earns 7.5% plus 1% surcharge back on fuel, collects the quarterly milestone if total spends are around ₹25,000 a month, and usually gets the fee waived as well. Few fuel cards in our data comes close to ₹1,000 of fuel value a month.
It suits less well people who fill at BPCL or HP pumps, because non-IndianOil fuel earn only 2 points per ₹100. People who use the card mostly for bills, rent or insurance get nothing on those. And light users below ₹2.75 lakh a year pay ₹1,770, which a ₹5,000 monthly fuel bill still covers, but only just covers if fuel is lower.
Trade-offs
The redemption route is the big one. Pump value of ₹0.50 makes this a top fuel card; portal value of ₹0.10 makes it ordinary. The waiver wording is unclear, so treat the fee as likely until RBL confirms. The 1% fee on fuel transactions above ₹10,000 punishes full-tank fills of big SUVs. There's no lounge, no insurance listed and a 3.5% forex markup, so keep a different card for travel.
Pros
- 15 fuel points per ₹100 at IndianOil, worth 7.5% at ₹0.50 a point
- High fuel cap of 2,000 points a month, worth ₹1,000 as fuel
- 3,000 welcome fuel points, worth ₹1,500 at the pump
- 1,000 bonus fuel points in each quarter with ₹75,000 of spends
- Fuel surcharge waiver of up to ₹200 a month on fills of ₹500 to ₹4,000
- RuPay variant works on UPI and carries NCMC features
Cons
- ₹1,500 + GST annual fee is charged from the first year
- RBL's 1% fee on fuel and auto transactions above ₹10,000 applies, with no exemption stated
- Points redeemed on RBL's portal are worth only ₹0.10, with a ₹99 + GST fee per redemption day
- No points on utilities, insurance, rent, education, wallets or government payments
- No lounge access, no insurance listed and a 3.5% forex markup
- Interest of up to 3.99% a month, depending on your credit score
XTRA against other fuel cards
Three fuel cards from other banks compete for the same driver. The comparison table below has every fee and cap; the short version is here.
XTRA or SBI Card BPCL OCTANE
BPCL SBI Card OCTANE costs ₹1,499 plus GST, reversed on ₹2 lakh of yearly spends, almost same like XTRA. At BPCL it gives 25 points per ₹100, worth 6.25% at ₹0.25 a point (25 times ₹0.25 is ₹6.25), capped at 2,500 points a cycle, which is ₹625 (2,500 times ₹0.25) and reached at ₹10,000 of fuel (2,500 divided by 25, times ₹100). It also pays 10 points per ₹100 on groceries, dining, department stores and movies and has 4 domestic lounge visits a year. XTRA's fuel ceiling is higher at ₹1,000 a month; OCTANE is the better all-rounder for BPCL users.
XTRA or IndianOil Kotak
The IndianOil Kotak card costs just ₹449 plus GST, waived at ₹50,000, and gives 4% at IndianOil up to ₹300 a cycle plus 2% on grocery and dining. It charges no fuel transaction fee. XTRA beats it by 3.5% on fuel (7.5% minus 4%), and on fuel alone that extra earn pays for XTRA's ₹1,770 fee once you fill about ₹4,214 a month (₹1,770 divided by 3.5%, divided by 12). Above that XTRA earn more; for small fuel bills, or if groceries is your bigger spend, Kotak is the cheaper keep.
XTRA or ICICI HPCL Super Saver
If your nearest pump is HP, look at ICICI HPCL Super Saver: ₹500 plus GST, reversed on ₹1.5 lakh, 4% cashback at HPCL up to ₹200 a month, an extra 1.5% through the HP Pay app, and 20 points per ₹100 on utilities, groceries and department stores up to 400 points a cycle. ICICI publish a ₹20,000 monthly income bar for salaried people.
