Sapphiro in brief
Sapphiro is ICICI Bank's premium card for people who travel within India and actually use their perks. It come on Mastercard, American Express and RuPay, and the RuPay card works on UPI. ICICI's page also describes a dual setup where you hold both a Mastercard and an Amex variant, and then the domestic lounge visits split as 2 per variant.
The joining fee of ₹6,500 + GST is steep, but it buys welcome vouchers that ICICI puts at over ₹13,000. From the second year the fee is ₹3,500 + GST, waived for the next year if you spend ₹6 lakh in a card year. Our credit cards hub explains how premium cards differ from entry ones.
Three things to weigh first
- Domestic lounges depend on spend. The 4 visits a quarter need ₹75,000 of eligible spends in the previous quarter. No spend condition is stated for the 2 international visits a year through Priority Pass.
- Points have no published value. You earn 2 points per ₹100 in India and 4 per ₹100 abroad, but ICICI doesn't tell what a point is worth.
- Insurance is strong. ₹3 crore of air accident cover for the primary cardholder (conditions apply), ₹1,40,000 of purchase protection and ₹84,000 for lost checked baggage.
What changed from 2024 to 2026
Sapphiro has moved with the rest of ICICI's range. Rent and e-wallet loading lost their points on 5 February 2024. Mid-November 2024, on the 15th, interest moved to 3.75% monthly (45% annually), an add-on fee of ₹199 came in, points got capped on utility, insurance and grocery spends, and rent, government and education spends stopped counting toward the fee waiver and milestones.
The ₹75,000 quarterly condition for domestic lounges dates from 1 January 2025. In 2026 there was four more steps. January 15 brought a 3.5% currency conversion fee in place of 1%, plus new charges on wallets, transport and gaming; February 1 capped points on transport; March 1 revised how the minimum due is worked out; and April 1 tied the BookMyShow offer to ₹25,000 of spending a quarter. Sapphiro is active and taking applications.
Fees: the first year is the expensive one
With GST at 18%, the ₹6,500 joining fee becomes ₹7,670 (₹6,500 plus ₹1,170), and each renewal of ₹3,500 becomes ₹4,130 (₹3,500 plus ₹630). Against the first payment you get vouchers which ICICI value at over ₹13,000, so the first year is really about using those vouchers, not about points.
Getting the renewal waived
Spend ₹6 lakh in a card year and the following year's ₹3,500 fee is waived. That means ₹50,000 every month (₹6,00,000 divided by 12) of eligible spending, since rent, government and education payments, EMIs, fees and interest are left out of the count. A household running its main bills and shopping through this card can get there, someone who uses it only for flights and dinners out probably won't.
Interest, late fees and cash
Interest is 3.75% per month, 45% per annum, and once you revolve it runs from the transaction date. The late fee kicks in when the minimum due is still unpaid 3 days after the due date, ranging from ₹100 on small balances to ₹1,300 when more than ₹50,000 is outstanding. The cash advance fee is 2.5% with a ₹500 minimum and interest from day one, a expensive way to get money.
Spending abroad and the special fees
Abroad you pay a 3.5% mark-up on foreign currency spends, and since 15 January 2026 a rupee payment to an overseas merchant also cost 3.5% as a currency conversion fee, where it was 1% before. So a ₹2,00,000 holiday abroad adds ₹7,000 of mark-up and ₹1,260 of GST on it, ₹8,260 in all.
At home, rent attracts 1% and earns nothing. Fuel above ₹10,000, utilities and transport above ₹50,000, education through third-party apps and wallet loads of ₹5,000 or more each pay 1%, and skill-based gaming pays 2%. Smaller charges are ₹150 for a cash payment at a branch, ₹199 for an add-on and ₹200 for a replacement card, rising to ₹300 from 11 December 2026.
Fuel itself gets a 1% surcharge waiver on transactions up to ₹4,000 at any pump, with waiver-eligible spends capped at ₹50,000 a statement cycle, but fuel earn no points.

Rewards, welcome vouchers and milestones
Sapphiro earns 2 ICICI Bank Reward Points per ₹100 spent in India and 4 per ₹100 on international spends, while utility and insurance payments get 1 point per ₹100. Points also have ceilings per statement cycle: utility and insurance spends earn on up to ₹80,000 each, grocery and departmental store spends on up to ₹40,000, and transport on up to ₹20,000 since 1 February 2026. Cash, rent, wallet loads, fuel, EMIs and fees earns nothing.
There is no rupee value per point on ICICI's pages for Sapphiro. You redeem through the ICICI Bank Rewards catalogue at ₹99 + GST each time, and points lapse 3 years after they are issued.
The 4 points abroad need a reality check: ₹1,00,000 spent abroad earns 4,000 points but costs ₹3,500 of mark-up and ₹630 of GST, ₹4,130 in all. A point would have to be worth about ₹1.03 (₹4,130 divided by 4,000) to cover that, so the higher earn abroad is a small offset and not a reason for swiping.
Welcome and milestone benefits
Within 45 days of paying the joining fee you receive Tata CLiQ vouchers of ₹3,000, EaseMyTrip vouchers of ₹4,000 (4 of ₹1,000), Da Milano ₹5,000, Croma ₹1,500 (3 of ₹500) and a 3-month EazyDiner Prime membership worth ₹1,095. On paper they add up to ₹14,595, and ICICI describes the set as worth over ₹13,000. Their real value depend on whether you shop at those brands.
Milestones pay 4,000 points when you cross ₹4 lakh in an anniversary year, then 2,000 for each further ₹1 lakh, up to 20,000 points, a ceiling that arrives at ₹12 lakh (4,000 at ₹4 lakh plus 8 more steps of 2,000). Golf is 1 round for every ₹50,000 spent in the previous month, up to 4 rounds a month. The BookMyShow offer, buy one ticket and get one with up to ₹500 off, works twice a month in a quarter that follows ₹25,000 of spending.
Three worked examples
| Monthly spend | Light: ₹30,000 | Typical: ₹60,000 | Heavy: ₹1,20,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Retail in India at 2 per ₹100 | ₹20,000 = 400 | ₹35,000 = 700 | ₹50,000 = 1,000 |
| Grocery at 2 per ₹100, ₹40,000 cap | ₹6,000 = 120 | ₹12,000 = 240 | ₹45,000, only ₹40,000 counts = 800 |
| Utilities at 1 per ₹100 | ₹4,000 = 40 | ₹8,000 = 80 | ₹10,000 = 100 |
| International at 4 per ₹100 | None | ₹5,000 = 200 | ₹15,000 = 600 |
| Points a month | 560 | 1,220 | 2,500 |
| Points a year, 12 months | 6,720 | 14,640 | 30,000 |
| Milestone points | 0 on ₹3,60,000 a year | 10,000 on ₹7,20,000 a year | 20,000 on ₹14,40,000 a year |
| Total points a year | 6,720 | 24,640 | 50,000 |
| Next year's ₹3,500 fee | Payable, ₹4,130 with GST | Waived | Waived |
Light. 6,720 points a year, no milestone, and the ₹4,130 renewal to pay, so each point would need to be worth about ₹0.61 (₹4,130 divided by 6,720) to cover it. The real draw at this level are the lounges: ₹90,000 a quarter (₹30,000 times 3) clears the ₹75,000 line, so the 4 domestic visits are yours every quarter.
Typical. ₹7,20,000 a year passes ₹6 lakh, so the next renewal is waived, and the milestones pay 4,000 at ₹4 lakh plus 2,000 each at ₹5, ₹6 and ₹7 lakh, 10,000 in all. That's 24,640 points with no renewal fee and 1 golf round a month. The ₹5,000 spent abroad each month earns 200 points but costs ₹175 of mark-up before GST.
Heavy. The grocery cap bites: ₹45,000 of groceries earn on only ₹40,000, losing 100 points a month. The year brings 30,000 regular points and the full 20,000 milestone points, 50,000 together, with 2 golf rounds a month. The ₹15,000 spent abroad costs ₹525 of mark-up (3.5% of ₹15,000) plus ₹94.50 GST each month, ₹619.50 a month or ₹7,434 over the year, more than the ₹4,130 renewal this spender no longer pay.

Eligibility and the application
ICICI wants a salaried applicant to earn ₹75,000 a month and a self-employed one to show ₹9,00,000 a year. Both works out to the same ₹75,000 a month once you divide ₹9,00,000 by 12. The age band is 21 to 65, you need to be an Indian citizen, and the documents are identity proof, address proof and income proof.
How to apply
Apply on ICICI's website, where the journey has you upload KYC and income papers, or look in the iMobile app, where any card offer for you sits under Pre Approved Loans/Offers and then Loan and Card Offers. Decide the network before you start, since Sapphiro is coming in Mastercard, Amex and RuPay forms and only the RuPay one works on UPI.
What ICICI weighs
- Your income and capacity to repay, which the RBI's 2025 card Directions require every bank to check independently.
- Your total credit limits with other lenders, because the new limit is set after counting all of them.
- Credit score and repayment record, which ICICI's listing page says may be considered. On Experian's scale of 300 to 900, above 750 is generally seen as good.
- Full KYC: PAN or Form 60 plus an officially valid document, in person or on a Video KYC call.
Meeting the income line don't mean approval. The decision is ICICI's alone, and if the answer is no, RBI rules require the reasons in writing. The Key Fact Statement given with the application sets out the interest rate and every charge, read it before you accept the card. Service queries go to ICICI's toll-free 1800 1080, and our ICICI customer care page has the rest of the numbers.

Who should carry Sapphiro, and who shouldn't
This card is built for someone who flies within India a few times each quarter, spends ₹75,000 or more a quarter anyway, and enjoys golf or weekend movies. For that person 4 domestic lounge visits a quarter, a golf round on every ₹50,000 of monthly spends and the BookMyShow offer gives real use, and the ₹3 crore air accident cover is a solid safety net.
It is a poorer fit for the overseas traveller. The 4 points per ₹100 abroad sound good until you set them against a 3.5% mark-up plus GST, and only 2 international lounge visits a year come with it.
Points-focused users should think twice too. Without a published rupee value, and with ₹99 + GST taken on every redemption, Sapphiro's earn can't be compared cleanly with cards that publish one. The value here sit in the perks, not the points.
And be honest about the ₹6 lakh. If you won't get near ₹50,000 a month of eligible spends, plan for ₹4,130 every year after the first and ask whether you will use the lounges enough to justify. Lighter spenders can look at ICICI's Coral card, which keeps one domestic lounge visit a quarter on the same ₹75,000 rule for a ₹500 fee.
Pros
- 4 domestic airport lounge visits a quarter and 2 international visits a year
- Welcome vouchers worth over ₹13,000 for the ₹6,500 joining fee
- ₹3 crore air accident cover, ₹1,40,000 purchase protection and ₹84,000 lost baggage cover
- Milestone bonuses of up to 20,000 points a year
- A golf round for every ₹50,000 of monthly spend, up to 4 a month
- Comes on Mastercard, Amex or RuPay, with UPI on RuPay
Cons
- First-year cost of ₹7,670 with GST
- Domestic lounges need ₹75,000 of spend in the previous quarter
- ICICI publishes no rupee value for a point
- 3.5% forex mark-up plus GST on every spend abroad
- No points on rent, fuel, wallet loads or EMI, with caps on grocery and utility spends
Sapphiro against three mid-premium rivals
At this price people usually weigh Sapphiro against the SBI Card ELITE, the Axis Bank Select Credit Card and the HSBC TravelOne Credit Card. Each of them do one thing better than Sapphiro, and none does everything.
SBI Card ELITE costs less at ₹4,999 + taxes but waives only at ₹10 lakh of yearly spends. Its 10 points per ₹100 on dining, departmental stores and groceries are worth 2.5% at ₹0.25 a point, capped at 10,000 points a calendar month. It gives 2 domestic lounge visits a quarter, 6 Priority Pass visits a year abroad and a 1.99% forex mark-up. The catch: SBI Card dropped its ₹1 crore air accident cover from 15 July 2025, while Sapphiro still carries ₹3 crore.
Axis Bank Select is the cheapest at ₹3,000 + GST, waived at ₹8 lakh. It earns 10 EDGE REWARD Points per ₹200 and Axis puts a point at ₹0.20, so the base is about 1% and retail shopping gets 2% on up to ₹20,000 a month. Domestic lounges need ₹50,000 of spends in 3 months, a lighter bar than Sapphiro's ₹75,000 a quarter, and Priority Pass brings 6 international visits a year plus 6 more after ₹3 lakh of yearly spends, that makes up to 12.
HSBC TravelOne suits the international flyer: 4 reward points per ₹100 on flights, travel aggregators and foreign currency spends, up to 50,000 accelerated points a month, and 1:1 transfers to airline programmes such as Air India Maharaja Club and British Airways. It lists 6 domestic and 4 international lounge visits a year with no spend condition stated. The fee is ₹4,999, reversed including GST above ₹8,00,000, and its mark-up is also 3.5%.
Which one: stay with Sapphiro if domestic lounges, golf and strong insurance matter most and you spend ₹75,000 a quarter anyway. Choose ELITE for frequent trips abroad, with its 1.99% mark-up and more international lounges; Axis Select for the smallest fee and a published point value; and TravelOne if airline miles are the goal. The full ICICI Bank card range is on our bank page.
