FIRST WOW! Credit Card Review: FD-Backed, Zero Forex, Points Abroad
FIRST WOW! is IDFC FIRST Bank's fixed-deposit-backed credit card: put at least ₹20,000 in an FD and you get a credit limit equal to 100% of it, with no income proof, no credit history and no joining or annual fee. It earns 4 points per ₹200 (0.5%) on online, offline and international spends, and it is one of seven IDFC FIRST cards that still earn points abroad after 26 October 2026, with zero forex markup.

What FIRST WOW! is
FIRST WOW! is a secured card. You open a fixed deposit with IDFC FIRST Bank and the bank give you a credit limit worth 100% of it, so a ₹50,000 FD means a ₹50,000 limit. The smallest FD it accept is ₹20,000. There's no joining fee, no annual fee, and the bank doesn't ask for income proof or any credit history.
What make it different is a combination most cards don't have. Forex markup is zero and foreign spends still earn points, something the bank's FIRST Millennia and FIRST Select lost on 26 October 2026. The earn rate is flat: 4 points per ₹200, worth 0.5%, whether you buy online, in a shop or abroad. And it runs on the Visa Infinite platform, pitched by the bank at students and new professionals.
The card is active. NRIs can get a version against a singly held NRE FD of at least ₹25,000, with limits from ₹25,000 to ₹10,00,000. Lounge access isn't part of WOW!; that's on the separate FIRST WOW! Black. Compare the full range on our IDFC FIRST Bank credit cards page.
Recent changes
- Statements from 1 September 2024: like every IDFC FIRST card, the Minimum Amount Due is 2% of principal plus EMI, interest, fees and taxes.
- 9 September 2026: zero forex markup across all IDFC FIRST cards. WOW! was sold as a zero-forex card even before.
- 26 October 2026: most IDFC FIRST cards stopped earning points on international spends, but WOW! is on the bank's list of cards that keeps them.
What WOW! charges
Joining fee and annual fee are ₹0 on the card page and nil in the MITC, so there is no waiver condition and no spend target. Add-on cards are not offered at all (NA in the MITC). If you want to pay by UPI, the FIRST Digital RuPay card cost ₹199 + GST a year. GST at 18% sits on top of every charge.
Interest and late payment
Even though it is secured, this card charges normal card interest if you don't pay in full: the bank sets yours between 0.71% and 3.85% a month, i.e. 8.5% to 46.2% a year, and 3.99% a month (47.88% a year) if the minimum isn't paid. Interest runs daily, so ₹10,000 carried for 30 days at 46.2% costs ₹379.73 (46.2% of ₹10,000 is ₹4,620 for a year, divided by 365, times 30), plus GST.
Miss the due date and the late charge are 15% of what was due on the last statement, after deducting payments, within a ₹100 minimum and ₹1,300 maximum. Over-limit isn't possible on WOW!, so there's no over-limit fee.
Cash, forex and category fees
Cash facility is quite much generous here: ATM withdrawals up to 100% of the FD, with no interest for up to 45 days and ₹199 + GST per withdrawal. Forex markup is nil, currency conversion too.
- Rent or property payments: 1% of the amount, minimum ₹249 per transaction.
- Utility bills: 1% of the full total once they go past ₹20,000 in a cycle.
- Fuel above ₹30,000, railway above ₹25,000 and tolls above ₹10,000 a cycle: 1% of the total. On a ₹20,000 limit you'd rarely get near the fuel line in one cycle.
- Education fees through third-party apps: 1%, minimum ₹249. Bounced payment: 2%, minimum ₹500. Reward redemption: ₹99 + GST.

How WOW! earns
The structure is very simple only, which is half of its charm.
- 4 points per ₹200: online, offline and international spends. At ₹0.25 a point that's ₹1 on ₹200, so 0.5%.
- 1 point per ₹200: insurance premiums, utility bills, FASTag and railway, which is ₹0.25 on ₹200, or 0.125%.
- UPI through FIRST Digital: 3 points per ₹200 above ₹2,000, 1 point at ₹2,000 or less.
- Nothing on: fuel, EMI, fees and GST, loan on card, balance transfer, cash, and any transaction below ₹200.
Travel booked in the IDFC FIRST Bank app through FIRST Rewards Gallery earns a bonus: 10% bonus points on hotels and 5% on flights. Ten bonus points per ₹100 at ₹0.25 is ₹2.50, so hotels get 2.5% extra and flights 1.25%, under a cap of 8,000 bonus points a calendar month, worth ₹2,000. You reach that cap only at ₹80,000 of hotel bookings in a month (8,000 divided by 10 per ₹100).
Every point redeem at ₹0.25, whether for online purchases, in-store, vouchers, the catalogue or app travel, and each redemption carry a ₹99 + GST fee. Points stay valid 24 months from credit, are earned only up to your credit limit in a cycle and get cancelled for a cycle if you skip the Minimum Amount Due. There is no welcome gift and no milestone benefit.
Three spenders, worked out
- Student, ₹20,000 FD, ₹6,000 a month: online shopping and food ₹5,000 is 25 lots of ₹200 at 4 points, 100 points; phone and utility bills ₹1,000 is 5 lots at 1 point, 5 points. Total 105 points (100 + 5), ₹26.25 a month at ₹0.25, ₹315 a year (₹26.25 times 12). Redeeming once a year costs ₹116.82 (₹99 plus 18%), leaving ₹198.18 (₹315 minus ₹116.82).
- Young professional, ₹1,00,000 FD, ₹30,000 a month: online ₹10,000 and offline ₹12,000 make ₹22,000, which is 110 lots at 4, so 440 points; bills and insurance ₹4,000 is 20 points; fuel ₹4,000 earn nothing, though the 1% surcharge waiver hands back ₹40 (1% of ₹4,000) within the ₹200 cap. Total 460 points (440 + 20), so ₹115 a month at ₹0.25 and ₹1,380 a year (₹115 times 12).
- Traveller, ₹2,00,000 FD: ₹50,000 a normal month, of which ₹45,000 shopping is 225 lots at 4, 900 points, and ₹5,000 bills is 25 points. That's 925 points, ₹231.25 a month at ₹0.25, ₹2,775 a year (₹231.25 times 12). One ₹60,000 trip abroad adds 1,200 points (300 lots at 4), or ₹300, and one ₹20,000 hotel booked in the app within a normal month's spend adds 2,000 bonus points (₹500). Year total ₹3,575 (₹2,775 plus ₹300 plus ₹500).
The bigger win for the traveller is the forex line. The same ₹60,000 on a card with a 3.49% markup, like AU LIT, would cost ₹2,094 in markup (3.49% of ₹60,000) plus ₹376.92 GST (18% of ₹2,094), so ₹2,470.92 more. With a ₹2,00,000 limit, that trip month (₹60,000 abroad plus ₹50,000 at home) still fit inside the limit, so every rupee earns.
| Spender | FD and limit | Monthly spend | Points a month | Value a year | Annual fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Student | ₹20,000 | ₹6,000 | 105 | ₹315 | ₹0 |
| Young professional | ₹1,00,000 | ₹30,000 | 460 | ₹1,380 | ₹0 |
| Traveller | ₹2,00,000 | ₹50,000 plus one trip | 925 | ₹3,575 | ₹0 |

Who can get FIRST WOW!
The rules are short: age 18 to 80, an Indian citizen with a permanent address in India, and a fixed deposit of at least ₹20,000 with IDFC FIRST Bank. The bank says no credit history or income proof is required, and the same 18 to 80 range apply to salaried and self-employed people.
FD rules
- Only singly held FDs qualify. Deposits by HUFs, partnership firms, societies or trusts, a minor's FD, joint FDs, tax-saver deposits and flexi (auto-sweep) deposits doesn't count.
- Your limit is 100% of the FD. That's more generous than some other banks; Axis Bank gives 80% to 90% on a ₹15,000 minimum FD, and ICICI Bank up to 90%.
- NRIs need a singly held NRE FD of at least ₹25,000.
- The card page doesn't say when the bank would use the FD against unpaid dues. Federal Bank's FD-backed One card, by comparison, can liquidate the FD at 31 days past due, so do ask IDFC FIRST before you sign.
Applying
Apply online, where you open the FD online and then finish Video KYC, or walk into a branch. No income papers is needed, but the KYC document list for this card isn't published. Under RBI's KYC norms a passport, driving licence, voter ID or proof of Aadhaar possession is valid, along with PAN or Form 60.
Even a secured card is the bank's decision, and the RBI requires it to assess your own financial means and, if it refuses, give reasons in writing. Someone new to credit usually show up as "NH" (no history) in a CRIF report rather than with a score, which is exactly the gap WOW! is built for. Questions can go to 1800 10 888; see our IDFC FIRST Bank helpline page.

| How to apply | Online on the IDFC FIRST Bank website or mobile app (fully digital with Video KYC; FD-backed cards need an FD opened online), or at a branch. |

These are the bank's published conditions. Meeting them does not guarantee a card: approval and the credit limit are the bank's decision.
Should you take FIRST WOW!?
It suits anyone who has some savings but no paper trail: a college student, a fresher waiting for the first salary slips, a homemaker, a freelancer whose income is hard to prove, or someone rebuilding after a bad patch. It's also a smart second card for trips abroad, because zero markup plus 0.5% back beat paying a markup on other cards.
It's not for you if you want a large limit without locking money away, since the limit is only as big as the deposit. Lounge hunters should look at FIRST WOW! Black instead. And foodies who order in a lot would earn more on the FIRST Millennia's 10X, once they can show ₹3 lakh of income.
The trade-offs
The flat 0.5% is honest but never exciting. ₹1,00,000 of card spends in a year give ₹500 worth of points (500 lots of ₹200 at 4 points, 2,000 points at ₹0.25), and the ₹99 + GST redemption fee take a chunk out of small balances. Spends below ₹200, like a chai or a short auto ride, earn nothing. No welcome, no milestones, no add-ons. What you get instead is a card that's easy to get and cheap to hold.
Pros
- No income proof or credit history needed; a ₹20,000 FD is enough
- Credit limit equal to 100% of the FD
- Zero forex markup, with points still earned on international spends
- Nil joining and annual fee
- Cash withdrawals up to 100% of the FD with no interest for up to 45 days
Cons
- Flat 0.5% earn rate with no accelerated categories beyond app travel bonuses
- No lounge access and no welcome or milestone benefits
- No add-on cards
- Transactions under ₹200 earn no points
- ₹99 + GST per redemption cuts into small point balances
Alternatives to FIRST WOW!
Two kinds of card compete here: other easy-entry cards, and IDFC FIRST's own unsecured card you might move to later. The side-by-side table below gives the numbers.
WOW! or One Credit Card
The One Credit Card is lifetime free, asks no income proof and has an FD-backed route for people who aren't approved for the regular card; on Federal Bank's version each extra FD adds 100% of its value to the limit. It gives 1 point per ₹50 and 5X on your top 2 categories, but no issuer publish the point value, and forex is 1%. WOW! wins for foreign spends; One is more flexible for domestic categories.
WOW! or AU LIT
AU LIT is unsecured and lifetime free, but needs income (AU doesn't publish the figure) and an age of 21 to 60 for salaried applicants. Rewards come from paid 90-day features, and forex is 3.49%. Choose LIT if you have income and want to customise; choose WOW! if you don't have income proof or you travel abroad.
WOW! or FIRST Millennia
Once you earn ₹3 lakh a year, the FIRST Millennia is the natural next step: no FD needed, 10 points per ₹200 on dining and travel, railway lounges. But it earns no points abroad, so frequent traveller may keep WOW! for the trips.

BankCreds does not sell cards or take applications. Fees and rewards change; the bank's own terms on the day you apply are what count, and approval is the bank's decision.
