Check the number before you dial
Searching for a customer care number is one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance: fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings and social-media replies. Take the number from IDFC FIRST Bank's own site or from inside its app, and never accept inbound help. No bank, NBFC or lender in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing app, and no genuine refund requires you to pay first.
IDFC FIRST Bank's own published warning: “"Do not search for Bank/UPI customer care numbers on search engines or social media. Always visit the official website." "Do not search for your banking app or bank's customer care numbers on search engines like Google, Bing etc. or Don't believe all content you come across on social media/WhatsApp. If you want to reach out to your bank, you will find the contact details on the back of your credit/debit card." "Fraudsters populate/spread fake customer care numbers of banks and UPI platforms on social media platforms ... Users call on these numbers; fraudsters pose as official representatives. The fraudster extracts sensitive information and deducts money from the user's account." "Verify the authenticity of contact details that are found on search engine result page with the official and/or authorised website and contact details of the Bank/Institution." "Never share any PIN/OTP/password ever on call/email/SMS." "Never entertain calls from people posing as bank representatives asking for your card/wallet/bank account information." "Disconnect calls asking for KYC verification or bank account/card blocking." "Official SMS communication from your bank will come from official headers which contains their names, for example, an SMS from IDFC FIRST Bank will come from a header which will have IDFCB with a prefix. Any communication from bank triggered from a personal mobile number should always be looked at suspiciously and be ignored." On digital arrest scams: "Hang Up If Threatened or Pressurized: Genuine authorities never force you to stay on a call, demand secrecy, or threaten immediate arrest." "Never download screensharing apps like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, QuickSupport and alike on your mobile or other device on request or insistence of unknown callers."”

Keep these ready before you call — your loan or account number, registered mobile number, the exact date and amount of the transaction in question, and any earlier complaint reference number. Ask for a reference number before the call ends and note the agent's name: without a reference, an escalation has nothing to attach to.
