What SBI Card PRIME is, and who it suits
By fee, PRIME sits between SBI Card's ₹499 SimplySAVE and its ₹4,999 ELITE. It earns 2 Reward Points per ₹100 on retail spends except fuel, and 10 points per ₹100 at restaurants, departmental stores, grocery stores and cinemas. With 4 points worth ₹1 as statement credit, that's 0.5% and 2.5%. The card is active, offered on Visa, Mastercard, American Express and RuPay, and SBI Card is taking application.
It is made for family spender. Weekly groceries, weekend dinners and the odd movie are exactly what it rewards, and the cap is roomy: 7,500 points a month, which takes ₹75,000 of category spend to fill (7,500 divided by 10, times ₹100).
What matters most
- Fee against benefits. ₹2,999 plus GST, a ₹3,000 welcome e-gift voucher once the fee is paid, and a waiver on ₹3 lakh of yearly spends.
- Vouchers for steady use. A ₹1,000 Pizza Hut e-voucher for each quarter with ₹50,000 of spends, and a ₹7,000 Yatra or Pantaloons e-voucher on ₹5 lakh in a year.
- Lounges with no spend bar stated. 8 domestic and 4 Priority Pass visits abroad each year, unlike two of the rivals in the last tab, which ties lounges to spending.
What changed from 2024 to 2026
- Reward Points stopped on rent from 1 April 2024, on government transactions from 1 June 2024 and on digital gaming from 1 December 2024.
- The complimentary ₹50 lakh air accident cover were discontinued from 15 July 2025.
- From 10 January 2026, domestic lounge visits work only at lounges on SBI Card's Set B list.
- From 1 April 2026, statement credit is possible only in multiples of 4,000 points, at most 60,000 a month.
- Due on 1 December 2026: 1% on transport spends above ₹30,000 and on fuel above ₹50,000 a billing cycle.
PRIME fees and charges
The annual fee is ₹2,999, and the renewal fee from the second year onwards is also ₹2,999, both plus GST. At 18% that adds ₹539.82, so ₹3,538.82 in a year you pay it (₹2,999 plus ₹539.82). Add-on cards are free.
The waiver. SBI Card waives the renewal fee when spends in the preceding year reach ₹3 lakh, which is ₹25,000 a month (₹3,00,000 divided by 12). A family that put groceries, shopping and dining on this one card usually gets there. In year one the ₹3,000 welcome voucher, given after the fee is paid, covers the fee but not the GST.
Interest, late fee and cash
Interest on unsecured SBI cards is 3.75% a month, or 45% a year, since 1 November 2024. Carry ₹30,000 for 30 days and you pay about ₹1,110 (₹30,000 times 45% times 30, divided by 365). The minimum finance charge is ₹25. The interest-free period of 20 to 50 days works only when the last bill was paid in full, and a 3-day grace is given after due date.
The late fee scale is nil up to ₹100, ₹100 for ₹100 to ₹500, ₹500 for ₹500 to ₹1,000, ₹750 up to ₹10,000, ₹950 up to ₹25,000, ₹1,100 up to ₹50,000 and ₹1,300 above that, plus taxes. Miss the minimum due two cycles running and ₹100 more is added every cycle until it's cleared. The lower slabs was revised on 1 May 2026.
Cash advances cost 2.5%, minimum ₹500, with interest from the day of withdrawal and at most ₹15,000 a day at ATMs. Over-limit use costs 2.5%, minimum ₹600, only if you has opted in.
Forex and the special fees
- Foreign currency: 3.5% plus GST. The same rate applies as a currency conversion fee on rupee payments of ₹1,000 or more abroad or to merchants registered overseas.
- Rent: a flat ₹199 plus taxes per payment. On ₹25,000 of rent that's ₹234.82 with GST (₹199 plus ₹35.82), under 1% of the rent.
- Utilities: 1% of the total if utility payments cross ₹50,000 in a billing cycle, since 1 December 2024.
- Education through third-party apps such as CRED or MobiKwik, and wallet loads above ₹1,000: 1% each, since 1 November 2025. Paying the school or college directly is free.
- From 1 December 2026: 1% on each transport transaction above ₹30,000, and 1% on all fuel spends if they exceed ₹50,000 in a cycle. The 1% fuel surcharge waiver on fills of ₹500 to ₹4,000 still apply, up to ₹250 a month.
- Branch cash payment ₹250; cheque payment ₹200; dishonoured payment 2%, minimum ₹500.

How PRIME earns, and what the points are worth
Base earning is 2 Reward Points per ₹100, fuel excluded. The 10-point rate covers dining (MCC 5812, 5813 and 5814), departmental stores (5311), grocery (5411) and movies (7832) up to 7,500 points a calendar month, after which spends go back to 2 points. Departmental and grocery buys at Metro Cash & Carry, Flipkart Wholesale and Walmart doesn't get the 10-point rate.
Two smaller bonuses exist. Birthday spends (the day before, the day and the day after) earn 20 points per ₹100, capped at 2,000 a calendar year, which ₹10,000 fills (2,000 divided by 20, times ₹100). Utility bills on a Standing Instruction set up through SBI Card earn 20 points per ₹100 up to 3,000 a month, but new registrations stopped on 1 April 2021, so only old instructions still qualifies.
No points on fuel, e-wallet loads, rent, government transactions, digital gaming, balance transfers, cash advances, fees and charges. Converting a purchase to EMI forfeits its points.
Value. 4 points pay ₹1 of your bill. Since 1 April 2026 statement credit works only in multiples of 4,000 points (₹1,000), up to 60,000 points a month, and each redemption carries ₹99 plus taxes. A single 4,000-point lot so loses ₹116.82 (₹99 plus 18%), almost 12% of it. Points lapse after 24 months, so redeem in bigger lots, but before they expires.
Vouchers and extras. The ₹3,000 welcome e-gift voucher (Yatra, Hush Puppies or Bata, Pantaloons, Aditya Birla Fashion or Shoppers Stop) must be used within 6 months. There's also a 1-year Club ITC Silver Tier membership.
| Per month | Light | Typical | Heavy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dining, departmental, grocery, movies at 10 per ₹100 | ₹8,000: 800 points | ₹15,000: 1,500 points | ₹30,000: 3,000 points |
| Other retail spends at 2 per ₹100 | ₹10,000: 200 points | ₹20,000: 400 points | ₹40,000: 800 points |
| Fuel, rent and other excluded spends | ₹2,000: 0 | ₹5,000: 0 | ₹10,000: 0 |
| Points value a year at 25 paise | ₹3,000 | ₹5,700 | ₹11,400 |
| Vouchers a year | ₹4,000 | ₹4,000 | ₹11,000 |
| Annual fee from year two | ₹3,538.82 | Waived | Waived |
Light, ₹20,000 a month. 800 plus 200 is 1,000 points a month and 12,000 a year, or ₹3,000 as statement credit in one 12,000-point request. Each quarter has ₹54,000 of eligible spends (₹8,000 plus ₹10,000, times 3), so four Pizza Hut vouchers add ₹4,000. But ₹2,40,000 a year (₹20,000 times 12) misses the ₹3 lakh waiver, so the ₹3,538.82 fee is due from year two. On points alone you are ₹538.82 down (₹3,000 minus ₹3,538.82); with the vouchers, if you actually eat at Pizza Hut, ₹3,461.18 ahead.
Typical, ₹40,000 a month. 1,500 plus 400 makes 1,900 points a month and 22,800 a year, worth ₹5,700. Eligible spends of ₹4,20,000 (₹15,000 plus ₹20,000, times 12) clear the ₹3 lakh waiver but not ₹5 lakh. The Pizza Hut vouchers add ₹4,000, so ₹9,700 a year with no fee. Redeem 20,000 points in one go and carry the other 2,800 forward.
Heavy, ₹80,000 a month. ₹30,000 in the bonus categories is well under the ₹75,000 that fills the cap, so all of it earn 10 points. That's 3,800 points a month, 45,600 a year, or ₹11,400. ₹8,40,000 of eligible spends (₹30,000 plus ₹40,000, times 12) brings the ₹7,000 voucher and four Pizza Hut ones, ₹11,000 together, so ₹22,400 in all, plus the lounge visits.

Eligibility and how to apply for PRIME
SBI Card publishes one set of rules for all its cards. Salaried applicants must be at least 21 and self-employed applicants above 25, and retired pensioners above 40 can apply online. The maximum age is the confusing part: SBI Card's page shows 60 in its apply checklist and 70 in its FAQ, so both figures is out there. SBI Card does not publish a minimum income for PRIME or for any other card.
Its card finder do file PRIME under a monthly income of 50 to 99K, but that is a browsing filter, not an eligibility rule. SBI Card also prefers a credit score between 750 and 900, says an SBI banking relationship is not mandatory, and needs your home to be in a location it services.
Documents and ways to apply
- PAN card, and Aadhaar with the first 8 digits masked or any valid government address proof, for digital KYC.
- Income documents such as salary slips or an income tax return, if SBI Card ask for them.
Apply online on SBI Card's website, through its chatbot ILA, by calling 39 02 02 02 with your city's STD code, or at an SBI branch. If you hold an SBI fixed deposit, a secured version called SBI Card PRIME Advantage is listed at the same ₹2,999, and since 23 September 2026 it can be applied for on SBI's YONO app. SBI Card does not publish the FD amount or the limit it gives against it, and secured cards carry 2.75% a month interest.
How the decision is made
- SBI Card is a non-bank issuer, so the RBI's 2025 Directions for NBFC card issuers apply to it.
- Issuers must judge your independent means and the limits you already have with other lenders, from your declaration or bureau data.
- If SBI Card turns you down, it must tell you the specific reasons in writing. No RBI rule sets a minimum age or income, that is the issuer choice.
RBI's September 2026 table shows 2,31,65,943 credit cards outstanding under State Bank of India; it has no separate row for SBI Card.

Pros, cons and who PRIME suits
PRIME rewards ordinary family spending well, because the categories it boosts (groceries, eating out, department stores, movies) are where a household's card money really go. Its 7,500-point cap is wide enough that few families will hit it.
Gains most: a household putting ₹25,000 or more a month on card, enough to keep the fee waived, with a good part on food and groceries. If you also go abroad once or twice a year, 4 Priority Pass visits with no spend condition are a real plus.
Should skip: anybody who puts rent, fuel or wallet loads on a card, since those earns nothing and rent costs ₹199 a go. Frequent foreign spenders should look at a card with a lower markup than 3.5%. And someone spending under ₹20,000 a month pay ₹3,538.82 a year for value they don't recover in points alone.
The trade-offs. The voucher-heavy design suits people who already shop at Yatra, Pantaloons or Pizza Hut; to others a voucher is worth less than its face value. Redemption in 4,000-point lots with a ₹99 fee mean you should batch points and watch the 24-month expiry. The lounge list is also narrower since January 2026, so check your home airport is on Set B before counting on it.
Pros
- The 7,500-point monthly cap lets up to ₹75,000 of dining, grocery and movie spend earn 2.5%
- A ₹3,000 welcome voucher roughly matches the ₹2,999 fee
- Up to ₹4,000 a year in Pizza Hut vouchers on ₹50,000 of spend each quarter
- 8 domestic and 4 Priority Pass lounge visits a year with no spend condition stated
- Fee waived on ₹3 lakh a year, about ₹25,000 a month
- Free add-on cards and four networks, including RuPay
Cons
- Rent, fuel, wallet loads, government payments and digital gaming earn no points
- Statement credit only in 4,000-point lots, with a ₹99 fee each time
- The ₹50 lakh air accident cover ended on 15 July 2025
- Domestic lounges are limited to SBI Card's Set B list since 10 January 2026
- Forex markup of 3.5% plus GST
- SBI Card publishes no minimum income
PRIME against three similar cards
Each of these charges ₹2,499 to ₹4,999 a year. The differences is in what they reward and how easily the fee goes away.
SBI Card ELITE
The SBI Card ELITE is PRIME's bigger sibling at ₹4,999 plus GST, waived only on ₹10 lakh a year. It earns the same 10 points per ₹100 on dining, departmental and grocery with a higher 10,000-point monthly cap, and adds milestone points from ₹3 lakh to ₹8 lakh, a ₹5,000 welcome voucher, 6 Priority Pass visits and a 1.99% forex markup.
HDFC Bank Regalia Gold
The Regalia Gold costs ₹2,500 plus GST, waived on ₹4 lakh. It earns 5 points per ₹200 on retail spends, with grocery points capped at 2,000 a month, and its points are worth more on HDFC's travel and catalogue options than as cashback. Forex is 2%, and 3 domestic lounge visits a quarter need ₹60,000 of spends, plus 6 Priority Pass visits abroad. Salaried applicants need gross income above ₹1.5 lakh a month.
BOBCARD Eterna
The BOBCARD Eterna costs ₹2,499 plus GST, waived on ₹2.5 lakh. It earns 15 points per ₹100, 3.75% at 25 paise, on online, international, dining and travel spends up to 5,000 points a cycle, but supermarkets and grocery stores earn nothing. Forex is 2%, and its unlimited domestic lounges need ₹75,000 a quarter.
Who should pick which
- PRIME, if groceries and dining lead your spending and you want lounges without a spend target.
- ELITE, if you spend well over ₹5 lakh a year and travel abroad, where 1.99% forex helps.
- Regalia Gold, if you earn above ₹1.5 lakh a month and redeem for travel.
- Eterna, if most of your money go online or on travel and not at the grocery store.
