Check the number before you dial

Searching for a customer care number is one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance: fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings and social-media replies. Take the number from State Bank of India's own site or from inside its app, and never accept inbound help. No bank, NBFC or lender in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing app, and no genuine refund requires you to pay first.

State Bank of India's own published warning: “State Bank of India never ask for your user id / password / pin no. through phone call / SMSes / e-mails. Any such phone call / SMSes / e-mails asking you to reveal credential or One Time Password through SMS could be attempt to withdraw money from your account. NEVER share these details to anyone.”

If money has already left your account, call 1930 and file at cybercrime.gov.in the same hour — see the first-hour fraud steps.

What you can get done on the State Bank of India helpline

  • Block an ATM/debit card, internet banking (INB) or UPI access via 1800 1234
  • Report an unauthorised electronic transaction on the dedicated helpline 1800 1111 09
  • Forward a transaction SMS from the registered mobile number, or a transaction email from the registered email address, to report an unauthorised electronic transaction
  • Report an unauthorised transaction through the dedicated link on the bank's website home page
  • Lodge a complaint through the SBI complaint portal (crh.sbi.bank.in) and track its status
  • Lodge a complaint by SMS to 8008202020
  • Check balance, get an account statement, update KYC and download certificates via WhatsApp Banking
  • Apply for and track loans, and access deposit, NRI and credit card services via WhatsApp Banking
  • Register for WhatsApp Banking through the Contact Centre IVR (option 50)
  • Reach dedicated helplines for pensioners, senior citizens and differently abled customers, home loans, FASTag, YONO and doorstep banking

Keep these ready before you call — your loan or account number, registered mobile number, the exact date and amount of the transaction in question, and any earlier complaint reference number. Ask for a reference number before the call ends and note the agent's name: without a reference, an escalation has nothing to attach to.

It is published as a 24x7 line. These are taken from State Bank of India's own official contact page — verify anything you find elsewhere against that page or inside the app before calling.
Is there a 24x7 State Bank of India helpline?
Yes. State Bank of India publishes 1800 1234, 1800 2100, 1800 112211, 1800 425 3800, 080-26599990 as available round the clock. SBI's Contact Centre page states the bank offers "services round the clock in your preferred language". WhatsApp Banking is stated to be "available 24x7x365, including weekends and public holidays". The bank's policy also refers to providing "24*7 access to customers" for reporting unauthorised transactions. Toll-free: 1800 1234, 1800 2100, 1800 112211, 1800 425 3800, 1800 1111 09, 1800 1111 01, 1800 11 0009, 1800 11 0001, 1800 11 0018, 1800 11 2017, 1800 11 2018, 1800 425 9760, 1800 8900, 1800 1111 03, 1800 8888.
Does State Bank of India have a WhatsApp number?
Yes — +91 90226 90226, published on its own website. Register by sending "Hi" to the number; registration completes after OTP authentication. Services include balance enquiry, account statement, KYC update, certificates, wealth services, nominee services, cheque and debit card services, loan applications and tracking, deposit information, NRI services, credit card services, digital banking access, complaints and feedback, and branch/ATM locator. Available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi. SBI states: "SBI WhatsApp Banking services are available 24x7x365, including weekends and public holidays enabling uninterrupted access to banking services." Save it from the official page rather than from a forwarded message: impersonating support on WhatsApp is one of the most common fraud methods in Indian lending today.
How do I file a complaint against State Bank of India?
Start with customer care and get a complaint reference number — every later step depends on it. If it is unresolved, write to the Grievance Redressal / Nodal Officer listed above with that reference, your account or policy number and dates. If 30 days pass without a satisfactory reply, complain to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in — it is free, online and needs no lawyer.
Who is the grievance redressal officer of State Bank of India?
State Bank of India publishes a grievance channel but not a named officer on the pages we verified. RBI requires every regulated lender to display its grievance officer inside the app, which is the one place the detail cannot be faked.
How do I know a State Bank of India customer care number is genuine?
Take it from only two places: the official website, and the support section inside the app. RBI requires the detail to be displayed there, and it is the one place a fraudster cannot edit. Never dial a number from a search snippet, a map listing, a social-media reply or a comment thread. And never accept inbound help — if someone calls claiming to be State Bank of India, hang up and dial the official number yourself. No company will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV or a screen-sharing app.
