What the Axis Privilege card offers
Privilege is an Axis Bank rewards card with one flat earn: 10 EDGE REWARD Points for every ₹200 spent, in India or abroad. It is open to new applicants and comes on Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Axis values 12,500 points at ₹2,500 in vouchers, so a point is ₹0.20 and the earn work out to about 1%.
The price in Axis's MITC is ₹1,500 to join and ₹1,500 a year, plus GST. Right now the card page and listing call the Visa version lifetime free, a limited-period offer the listing says is valid till 31 December 2026. Axis has not said whether the Mastercard and American Express versions gets the same deal, so check the variant before you sign.
Where the value comes from
- The milestone. ₹2.5 lakh of eligible spends in a card anniversary year brings 10,000 bonus points, worth ₹2,000 in vouchers, the biggest single piece of value for most users.
- Welcome points on paid cards only. 12,500 points, worth ₹2,500, come when the joining fee is charged and you transact within 30 days. Free, first-year-free and priority-segment cards don't get them, so the free Visa offer means giving these up.
- Lounges with a condition. 2 domestic visits a calendar quarter at selected lounges, provided the last 3 months saw ₹50,000 of spends.
Recent changes
Since 1 May 2024 domestic lounge access is needing ₹50,000 of spends in the previous 3 calendar months, waived for new cards in the issue month and the 3 months after. 20 December 2024 brought interest of 3.75% a month, up from 3.6%. From 20 June 2025 the buy-one-get-one movie offer moved to the District app, up to ₹250 off a month. The 28 August 2026 revision lifted the conversion markup on rupee spends overseas from 1.5% to 3.5% and ended rewards on tolls, and since 1 November 2026 the District offer asks for ₹25,000 of card spends in the 3 months before.
Privilege fees and charges
On a paid card you are charged ₹1,500 when it is issued and ₹1,500 every year, and GST at 18% adds ₹270 to each, so ₹1,770. Add-on cards are free. If you get the Visa card on the lifetime-free offer, both fee are nil, but the welcome points does not come with free cards.
Is the ₹5 lakh waiver realistic?
From the second year, the annual fee is reversed if you spent ₹5 lakh in the previous card anniversary year. That is ₹5,00,000 divided by 12, about ₹41,667 a month, and utilities and telecom, rent, wallet loads, government, insurance, gold and jewellery, fuel, education, gift cards and tolls don't count. For a household putting ₹30,000 a month on the card, the fee stays. The ₹2.5 lakh milestone, about ₹20,833 a month (₹2,50,000 divided by 12), is the easier target, and its ₹2,000 of points alone is more than the ₹1,770 fee, so very much enough.
Interest and penalty charges
Interest on revolving balances runs at 3.75% a month, 55.55% yearly. If ₹8,000 is outstanding after the due date you pay ₹750 as late fee; ₹30,000 attracts ₹1,200 and more than ₹50,000 attracts ₹1,300, with ₹100 added every cycle once the minimum due is missed two cycles running. Cash withdrawals cost 2.5% (minimum ₹500) with interest from day one, and going over the limit costs 2.5%, minimum ₹500.
- Forex 3.5%; paying in rupees overseas has carried the same 3.5% since 28 August 2026.
- Rent 1% plus GST on each payment; education fees through third-party apps 1%.
- Utilities 1% once a cycle passes ₹25,000, wallet and online gaming once they pass ₹10,000, fuel once it passes ₹50,000.
- Paying the bill in cash at a branch costs ₹175, a bounced cheque or auto-debit 2% with a ₹500 minimum, and each redemption ₹99, the amount Axis lists on its other card pages.

How Privilege points add up
Every ₹200 of eligible spend gets 10 points, in India or abroad, and no category earns more. At ₹0.20 a point that is ₹2 per ₹200, or 1%. Points is not earned on insurance, rent, fuel, education, utilities, government, wallet loads, gold and jewellery, gift cards or tolls, and points on a purchase converted to EMI are taken back.
Points have a 3-year life from allotment, die early after 365 days of no account activity, and may be forfeited 30 days after you close the card or once the minimum due goes 90 days unpaid. Voucher value of ₹0.20 is the only one Axis states for this card; for air miles or other options it gives no figure. Each redemption cost ₹99.
Milestone: 10,000 points, worth ₹2,000, on ₹2.5 lakh of spends in a card anniversary year, with add-on spends counted and the same exclusions. Fuel: 1% surcharge refund on fills of ₹400 to ₹4,000 at any pump, up to ₹400 a statement cycle, per the card page. Movies: up to ₹250 off a second ticket on District once a month, after ₹25,000 of spends in 3 months.
The cases below use ₹0.20 a point. On a paid card the yearly cost is ₹1,770 plus one ₹99 redemption, so ₹1,869.
Light: ₹20,000 a month
₹12,000 on shopping, dining and groceries, ₹5,000 on bills, ₹3,000 on fuel. Only the ₹12,000 earn: 60 times 10, so 600 points a month, 7,200 a year, ₹1,440. Eligible spend is ₹12,000 times 12, or ₹1,44,000, short of the milestone. On a paid card year one adds 12,500 welcome points (₹2,500), so ₹3,940 against ₹1,869, which is ₹2,071 ahead; from year two ₹1,440 against ₹1,869 is ₹429 behind. On the free Visa card there is no welcome bonus but no fee, so ₹1,341 a year after ₹99.
Typical: ₹40,000 a month
₹33,000 of shopping, dining, travel and groceries, ₹7,000 of bills and insurance. The ₹33,000 gives 165 times 10, so 1,650 points, 19,800 a year, ₹3,960. Eligible spend of ₹33,000 times 12 is ₹3,96,000, so the 10,000-point milestone comes in, making 29,800 points or ₹5,960 totally. That is under ₹5 lakh, so a paid card still pay ₹1,770, and after that and ₹99 you keep ₹4,091 from year two. ₹33,000 a month is also ₹99,000 in 3 months, enough for the lounge rule.
Heavy: ₹75,000 a month
₹60,000 of eligible spends including flights and purchases abroad, ₹10,000 of rent, ₹5,000 of fuel. Eligible spends give 300 times 10, so 3,000 points, 36,000 a year, ₹7,200, plus the ₹2,000 milestone, ₹9,200 in all. Yearly eligible spends are ₹7,20,000, over ₹5 lakh, so from year two the annual fee are reversed. Rent earns nothing and costs 1% plus GST, ₹118 a month or ₹1,416 a year. Net of rent fees and one redemption, ₹9,200 minus ₹1,416 minus ₹99 leaves about ₹7,685.
| Spender (year two on) | Points value | Paid card cost | Net on a paid card | Net on free Visa |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light, ₹20,000 a month | ₹1,440 | ₹1,869 | minus ₹429 | ₹1,341 |
| Typical, ₹40,000 a month | ₹5,960 | ₹1,869 | ₹4,091 | ₹5,861 |
| Heavy, ₹75,000 a month | ₹9,200 | ₹99 (fee reversed) plus ₹1,416 rent fees | ₹7,685 | ₹7,685 |
On the free Visa card the typical spender keeps ₹5,960 minus ₹99, which is ₹5,861.

Eligibility and applying for Privilege
Axis wants the primary cardholder between 18 and 70 and an Indian resident, and add-on holders must be over 18. The card page sets no income level for Privilege. Across its cards Axis quotes ₹15,000 of monthly income as the general floor, and calls that indicative.
The page asks for a PAN card copy, income proof (latest payslip, Form 16 or tax return) and residence proof such as a driving licence or an electricity or landline bill. Apply on Axis's website, where you enter mobile number and PAN or birth date, see offers and verify by OTP, or through the Axis Mobile app, or at a Axis branch. Ask at the time of applying whether the Visa lifetime-free offer still apply, since it is time-limited.
What Axis weighs
The RBI's 2025 card Directions require an independent credit assessment based on your own financial means, and the limit has to account for limits you hold with other lenders. The RBI prescribes no age or income itself, banks does. Your credit history counts: Experian treats scores above 750 on its 300 to 900 range as generally good. If Axis refuses, it must give you the reasons in writing, and no one else can approve the card for you. Axis's phone lines are on our Axis Bank customer care page.

Who Privilege suits
Privilege is a good everyday card for someone spending from about ₹20,833 a month up to ₹40,000 on shopping, dining and travel, enough to clear ₹2.5 lakh a year. On that ₹2.5 lakh the base points give ₹2,500 and the milestone ₹2,000, so ₹4,500, which is 1.8%. If you can get the Visa card free, nearly all of that stays with you.
The limits are just as clear. One flat 1% with no bonus categories is thin for a ₹1,770 fee if you miss the milestone. Bills, rent, fuel, insurance and gold earn zero, and 3.5% forex beat the 1% earn abroad by a long way. Lounge access are only 2 domestic visits a quarter, and only after ₹50,000 in 3 months.
- Choose it if you will spend ₹2.5 lakh a year on eligible categories, or you can take the free Visa offer.
- Skip it if you want bonus categories, travel abroad often, or tend to roll over dues at 3.75% a month.
A quick test for the paid card: without the milestone, covering ₹1,869 at 1% needs ₹1,86,900 of eligible spends a year (₹1,869 divided by 1%). See how it ranks among reward points credit cards.
