FIRST Power+ in short
FIRST Power+ is a fuel card that IDFC FIRST Bank run with HPCL, Hindustan Petroleum. It costs ₹499 + GST a year and is built around one number: 5% back on fuel bought at authorised HPCL pumps, for up to ₹12,000 of fuel in a statement cycle. Grocery, utility bills and IDFC FIRST FASTag recharges also get 5%, but on much smaller amounts.
Three things to know before applying. The caps are tight, so the boosted categories are worth about ₹750 in the card's best month. It works on UPI directly with any app; the bank lets only its RuPay-powered cards link on UPI, and Power+ link with every UPI app. And unlike the other fuel cards compared here it has no fuel surcharge waiver, you get points instead.
The card is active. A cheaper sibling, FIRST Power, costs ₹199 a year (waived at ₹50,000) and earns 21X on HPCL fuel and 15X on grocery, utility and FASTag per ₹150. The bank's whole range is on our IDFC FIRST Bank cards page.
Changes since 2024
- 1 September 2024: Minimum Amount Due became 2% of principal plus EMI, interest and charges on all IDFC FIRST cards.
- 10 June 2025: for cards set up from this date, the first HPCL fill for the welcome voucher can be done within 60 days, up from 30.
- 18 June 2026: the movie discount now need a transaction in the previous calendar month, and the travel bonus terms was reissued.
- 9 September 2026: forex markup cut to zero on every IDFC FIRST card.
- 26 October 2026: the bank's notice ends points on international spends for all its cards except seven named ones, and Power+ is not among them.
Fees and the waiver
Joining fee and annual fee are both ₹499 plus GST, which make ₹588.82 each (₹499 plus ₹89.82). The joining fee has to be paid before the card is dispatched, and an add-on card is also ₹499 as per the MITC.
The annual fee is reversed when you cross ₹1,50,000 of spends in the previous anniversary year, which works out to ₹12,500 a month (₹1,50,000 divided by 12). The count include all purchases except ATM cash, balance transfers, monthly EMIs and fees, net of refunds, so UPI payments and fuel both count. Anyone using it as their main fuel and UPI card should reach it; someone who keep it only for a ₹3,000 monthly fill will not.
Interest and penalties
The bank prices each cardholder's interest between 0.71% and 3.85% a month, or 8.5% to 46.2% yearly, and charges 3.99% a month (47.88% a year) when the minimum due is missed. Late fee is 15% of the last statement's total due minus payments before the due date, between ₹100 and ₹1,300; in the MITC's table a ₹500 due costs ₹100. Cash withdrawals are ₹199 + GST each, interest-free for up to 45 days. Over-limit, with your consent, cost 2.5% with a ₹550 minimum.
Category fees that hit drivers
- Fuel: 1% on the whole cycle's fuel spend if it goes above ₹30,000. Since rewards stop at ₹12,000 anyway, very large fuel bills on this card make little sense.
- Tolls and bridges: 1% on the whole total above ₹10,000 a cycle.
- Utilities: 1% on the whole total above ₹20,000 a cycle. Railway: 1% above ₹25,000.
- Rent, and education through third-party apps: 1%, minimum ₹249 a transaction. Bounced payment: 2%, minimum ₹500.
Forex markup is zero. There is no fuel surcharge waiver at all, so the surcharge pumps add to card payments, typically 1%, stay with you. GST at 18% applies on every fee and charge.

Where Power+ pays 5%
Points are earned per ₹150 and each point is worth ₹0.25 on every redemption. So 30 points per ₹150 is ₹7.50 on ₹150 (30 times ₹0.25), the 5% the bank advertises, and 3 points per ₹150 is 0.5%. The catch is how little spend qualify for the 5%.
| Category | Rate | Spend cap a cycle | Most points a cycle | Worth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HPCL fuel at authorised pumps | 30 per ₹150 (5%) | ₹12,000 | 2,400 | ₹600 |
| Grocery and utility | 30 per ₹150 (5%) | ₹2,000 | 400 | ₹100 |
| IDFC FIRST FASTag recharge | 30 per ₹150 (5%) | ₹1,000 | 200 | ₹50 |
| UPI and other retail | 3 per ₹150 (0.5%) | No cap | No cap | 0.5% of spend |
Add the three capped rows and the most you can collect is 3,000 points a cycle (2,400 + 400 + 200), or ₹750. The bank doesn't say what spend above those caps earns, so our examples count nothing on it. Fuel points come only at HPCL stations whose merchant IDs HPCL shared with the bank. Insurance premiums, non-HPCL fuel, EMIs and ATM cash earn no points, nor does any transaction under ₹150, and from 26 October 2026 spends abroad doesn't earn either.
Pay for HPCL fuel through the HP Pay app and HPCL adds 1.5% as Happy Coins, taking the total to 6.5%; Happy Coins top out at 600 a month on ₹10,000 of fuel.
Travel bookings in the app
Hotels booked through FIRST Rewards Gallery earn 26.7% bonus points and flights 13.3% (the card page call these 26.67% and 13.33% savings). At ₹0.25 a point that is worth about 6.7% on hotels and 3.3% on flights, up to 8,000 bonus points a calendar month, which is ₹2,000.
Redemption, expiry and joining gifts
Every redemption, whether pay with points, catalogue or travel, values a point at ₹0.25 and costs ₹99 + GST. As per the card page, points never expire. Welcome benefits, stated worth ₹2,500, are a ₹500 gift voucher for your first HPCL fuel transaction of ₹500 or more within 60 days of card set-up (cards set up from 10 June 2025, primary card, joining fee paid), 5% cashback up to ₹1,000 on the first EMI conversion within 30 days, and merchant offers worth ₹1,000 or more. There's also 25% off movie tickets up to ₹100 once a month if you used the card the month before, roadside assistance worth ₹1,399, ₹2,00,000 personal accident cover and ₹25,000 lost card cover.
Three drivers, worked out
| Per month | Light | Typical | Heavy |
|---|---|---|---|
| HPCL fuel | ₹4,000 | ₹8,000 | ₹15,000 |
| Grocery and utility | ₹2,000 | ₹8,000 | ₹10,000 |
| IDFC FIRST FASTag | ₹500 | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 |
| UPI and other retail | ₹5,500 | ₹12,000 | ₹30,000 |
| Insurance (no points) | ₹0 | ₹1,000 | ₹3,000 |
| Points a month | 1,410 | 2,440 | 3,600 |
| Value a year at ₹0.25 | ₹4,230 | ₹7,320 | ₹12,135 with two app hotel stays |
| Annual fee | ₹588.82 (waiver missed) | Reversed | Reversed |
- Light, ₹12,000 a month: ₹4,000 of HPCL fuel at 30 per ₹150 is 800 points (1 point per ₹5), groceries of ₹2,000 are 400, FASTag ₹500 is 100, and ₹5,500 of UPI and shopping at 3 per ₹150 is 110 (1 point per ₹50). That's 1,410 points (800 + 400 + 100 + 110), ₹352.50 a month (1,410 times ₹0.25) and ₹4,230 a year (₹352.50 times 12). But ₹1,44,000 of yearly spend (₹12,000 times 12) fall ₹6,000 short of ₹1,50,000, so the fee stays and you net ₹3,641.18 (₹4,230 minus ₹588.82).
- Typical, ₹30,000 a month: fuel of ₹8,000 is 1,600 points (1 point per ₹5), only ₹2,000 of the ₹8,000 grocery and utility counts, so 400, FASTag ₹1,000 is 200 and ₹12,000 of UPI is 240 (1 point per ₹50). Total 2,440 (1,600 + 400 + 200 + 240), so ₹610 a month (2,440 times ₹0.25) and ₹7,320 a year (₹610 times 12). ₹3,60,000 a year (₹30,000 times 12) clears the waiver, and ₹30,000 a month earns the quarterly lounge visit too. Paying the fuel through HP Pay would add ₹120 of Happy Coins a month (1.5% of ₹8,000).
- Heavy, ₹60,000 a month: fuel caps at ₹12,000, so 2,400 points while the other ₹3,000 of fuel get nothing we can count; grocery and utility give 400, FASTag 200, and ₹30,000 of UPI and shopping 600. That's 3,600 a month (2,400 + 400 + 200 + 600), ₹900, or ₹10,800 a year (₹900 times 12). Two ₹10,000 hotels booked in the app add 2,670 bonus points each (26.7 per ₹100 on ₹10,000), ₹667.50 apiece (2,670 times ₹0.25), so ₹12,135 in all (₹10,800 plus 2 times ₹667.50).
In the heavy case the ₹30,000 of other spending brings just ₹150 a month (600 points at ₹0.25). Past the caps this is a 0.5% card, so a big spender should pair it with a stronger everyday card.

Can you get FIRST Power+?
The published bar is modest. You need an annual income of ₹3 lakh or more, about ₹25,000 a month (₹3,00,000 divided by 12), and must be at least 21 if salaried or 25 if self-employed, though one section of the page simply say 21. The bank also want Indian residency, a good credit score, credit usage within an acceptable level and a fit with its internal credit policy. No separate income figure exist for the self-employed.
If you already hold an IDFC FIRST card, you can apply for Power+ and the two cards share one credit limit.
Documents and the process
Identity proof, income proof and KYC are needed, the online route uses Video KYC. The bank does not list the exact documents. Apply on the IDFC FIRST Bank website or app, or at a branch, and pay the ₹499 + GST joining fee before dispatch.
Before you sign
- A one-page Key Fact Statement with the interest rate and charges must come with the application, under the RBI's 2025 card Directions.
- The bank must check your own financial means and the limits you hold with other lenders.
- RBI fixes no minimum income; the ₹3 lakh is the bank's own rule.
- If you are refused, the bank must tell you why in writing. A card you never asked for must not be billed; if it is, the bank reverses the charges and pays a penalty of twice the amount.
Experian rates a score over 750 as generally good on its 300 to 900 scale, but no score settle the decision. Questions: 1800 10 888, and more numbers on our IDFC FIRST Bank customer care page.

Who should carry FIRST Power+
It's best for a commuter who fill ₹6,000 to ₹12,000 a month at HPCL and pays daily bills on UPI. That person gets close to 5% on fuel, the fee back through the waiver, a lounge visit each quarter if the month's spend reach ₹20,000, and a card that links to any UPI app.
For the typical driver at ₹30,000 a month the card returns about ₹7,320 a year with the fee reversed, roughly 2% of spend (₹7,320 divided by ₹3,60,000), which are solid for a ₹499 card.
Skip it if your nearest pump is IndianOil or BPCL, because non-HPCL fuel earns nothing and the card has no surcharge waiver to fall back on. Skip it too if your fuel bill runs far above ₹12,000 a cycle; past the cap you pay the surcharge and earn nothing back.
Trade-offs
- The capped categories top out at ₹750 a cycle, so this is a fuel card with a small grocery bonus, not a full rewards card.
- Only 0.5% on everything uncapped, which is low.
- Points abroad are gone since 26 October 2026, even with the forex markup at zero.
- Points never expire as per the card page, which help if you redeem rarely.
Pros
- 5% back as points on HPCL fuel, plus 1.5% in HP Pay Happy Coins through HPCL's app
- Links directly to UPI apps without a separate companion card
- Annual fee reversed on ₹1,50,000 of spends in the previous anniversary year
- Uncapped 3 points per ₹150 (0.5%) on UPI and other retail spends
- ₹500 welcome gift voucher on the first HPCL fuel fill of ₹500 or more within 60 days
- Zero forex markup
Cons
- Fuel rewards stop at ₹12,000 of HPCL spend a statement cycle, worth ₹600
- The 5% on grocery and utility covers only ₹2,000 a cycle, worth ₹100
- No fuel surcharge waiver on this card
- No points on insurance, non-HPCL fuel, EMI or international spends
- ₹99 + GST on every redemption, at ₹0.25 a point
Power+ against other fuel cards
Three co-brand fuel cards are worth comparing, two of them also tied to HPCL. Full numbers are in the side-by-side table.
Power+ or ICICI HPCL Super Saver
The ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver costs ₹500 + GST, waived from the second anniversary year on ₹1,50,000 of spends. It gives 4% cashback on HPCL fuel but caps it at ₹200 a month, which a ₹5,000 fill already reach (4% of ₹5,000), plus a 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400 to ₹4,000 fills and HPCL's 1.5% through HP Pay. Utilities and department stores get 20 points per ₹100 up to 400 points a cycle, and forex is 3.5%. At ₹8,000 of HPCL fuel, filled ₹4,000 or less at a time, ICICI gives ₹200 plus ₹80 of waiver, against ₹400 on Power+ (5% of ₹8,000); below about ₹5,000 the two are close.
Power+ or HPCL ENERGIE BOBCARD
The HPCL ENERGIE BOBCARD is ₹499 + GST per its MITC (its card pages show a ₹0 joining fee as a limited-period offer from 1 September 2026), with renewal waived at a much easier ₹50,000 of annual spends, UPI not counted. It earns 24 points per ₹150 on HPCL fuel, 4% at ₹0.25, capped at 1,000 points (₹250) a statement, which ₹6,250 of fuel reach (1,000 divided by 24, times ₹150), plus a 1% surcharge waiver up to ₹100 a statement. One lounge visit a quarter needs ₹20,000 spent in the previous quarter, and forex is 3.5%. For a small spender who can't reach ₹1,50,000, BOBCARD is cheaper to keep.
Power+ or BPCL SBI Card
The BPCL SBI Card is for BPCL pumps instead. It costs ₹499 + GST, reversed on ₹1 lakh of annual spends since 1 May 2026, and pays 13 points per ₹100 on BPCL fuel, 3.25% at ₹0.25, up to 1,300 points a cycle, with a 1% surcharge waiver up to ₹100. Groceries, department stores, movies and dining earn 5 points per ₹100 up to 5,000 a month. No lounge, and 3.5% forex. Choose by the pump brand you actually use.
