What MoneyBack+ is, and who it is for
MoneyBack+ is HDFC Bank's entry shopping card. It pays rewards as CashPoints: 10X at Amazon, BigBasket, Flipkart, Reliance Smart SuperStore (with Reliance Fresh, Reliance Smart and Sahakari Bhandar) and Swiggy, and 2 CashPoints per ₹200 on other spends. The card is active and confirmed on RuPay, which mean you can use it on UPI. HDFC's documents don't confirm a Visa or Mastercard version.
It is pitched at people taking there first card, with a ₹500 fee and a ₹20,000 monthly income floor. If your month is Amazon parcels, Swiggy dinners and a BigBasket basket, the 10X list covers most of it.
Three things that decide its value
- What a CashPoint is worth. 20 paise as cashback since 1 November 2025, or 25 paise on SmartBuy flights, hotels and the catalogue. At 20 paise the base earn is just 0.2% (2 points per ₹200).
- The 10X cap. 2,500 CashPoints a calendar month, which is ₹500 as cashback (2,500 times 20 paise) or ₹625 on SmartBuy (2,500 times 25 paise).
- The redemption cost. ₹50 plus GST every time you take cashback, with ₹500 as the minimum.
Changes since 2024
- 1 August 2024: the ₹50 fee on cashback redemptions started.
- 1 September 2024: 5X CashPoints on merchant EMI was removed, and wallet loads, EasyEMI and education paid through third-party apps stop earning. Utility and telecom points got a 2,000-a-month cap each.
- 1 July 2025: online skill-based gaming stopped earning; 1% fees came on wallet loads and gaming above ₹10,000 a month, and the rent fee got a ₹4,999 cap.
- 1 November 2025: the cashback value fell from 25 paise to 20 paise a CashPoint.
- 15 May 2026: the base earn moved to 2 CashPoints per ₹200, counted in multiples of ₹200 instead of ₹150, and a 1.75% markup arrived on rupee payments abroad.
MoneyBack+ fees and charges
You pay ₹500 to join and ₹500 at each renewal, plus GST, which make it ₹590 at 18% (₹500 plus ₹90). HDFC bills the first-year fee, with GST, 120 days after the card is issued; once it's paid, 500 welcome CashPoints arrive, worth ₹100 as cashback (500 times 20 paise). Each renewal fee paid also earns 500 CashPoints.
The waiver. HDFC's MITC waives the renewal fee on annual spends of ₹50,000, about ₹4,167 a month (₹50,000 divided by 12 is ₹4,166.67). That is a low bar; a few Amazon orders, some Swiggy dinners and the monthly groceries reaches it. Add-on cards are lifetime free.
Interest, late fee and cash
HDFC's MITC puts interest at 3.75% a month (45% a year) on revolving credit and cash, with GST extra. On ₹15,000 carried for 30 days you will paying about ₹555 (₹15,000 times 45% times 30, divided by 365).
The late fee, excluding GST, follows the bill amount: nil up to ₹100, ₹100 for ₹101 to ₹500, ₹500 for ₹501 to ₹1,000, ₹600 for ₹1,001 to ₹5,000, ₹750 for ₹5,001 to ₹10,000, ₹900 for ₹10,001 to ₹25,000, ₹1,100 for ₹25,001 to ₹50,000 and ₹1,300 above ₹50,000. It's charged only when the minimum due stay unpaid 3 days after the due date. Cash withdrawals cost 2.5% or ₹500, whichever is higher, plus interest from the day you withdraw. Going past the limit, which needs your explicit consent, costs 2.5% with a ₹550 minimum.

How CashPoints are earned, and what they are worth
Outside the five brands you get 2 CashPoints per ₹200, counted only in full multiples of ₹200 since 15 May 2026, so a ₹350 bill earns on ₹200 only. At the five brands HDFC pays 10X CashPoints. Its August 2024 terms put that at 20 CashPoints per ₹150, but HDFC have not said whether the 10X is now counted per ₹200 like the base. Our examples use 20 per ₹200, the lower reading.
The two readings explains why HDFC's own pages disagree. At 25 paise on SmartBuy, 20 points per ₹200 is the 2.5% on the product page, while 20 per ₹150 is about the 3.3% on the RuPay microsite (20 divided by 150, times 25 paise). As cashback at 20 paise those rates become 2% and about 2.67%.
Caps. The 10X stops at 2,500 CashPoints a calendar month across the five brands. Grocery points are capped at 1,000 a month, utility and telecom at 2,000 each, UPI spends on the RuPay card earn 2 per ₹150 up to 500 a month, and no statement cycle can earns more than 15,000. HDFC doesn't say whether BigBasket and Reliance Smart points count against the grocery cap, or what spends past the 10X cap earn, so we count the latter at nothing.
No CashPoints on fuel, rent, government payments, wallet and gift card loads, EasyEMI, education through third-party apps, online skill-based gaming, cash advances, fees, SmartEMI and voucher purchases. Buys at the five brands through SmartBuy or PayZapp earns only the base rate.
Value and bonuses. Cashback needs a ₹500 minimum, so 2,500 CashPoints before you can redeem (₹500 divided by 20 paise), and each redemption costs ₹59 with GST (₹50 plus ₹9). SmartBuy pays 25 paise, for up to 50% of a flight or hotel booking. CashPoints lapse 2 years after they're earned. Every calendar quarter with ₹50,000 of spends bring a ₹500 gift voucher.
| Per month | Light | Typical | Heavy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Five 10X brands at 20 per ₹200 | ₹5,000: 500 | ₹15,000: 1,500 | ₹30,000: 2,500 (capped) |
| Other spends at 2 per ₹200 | ₹6,000: 60 | ₹9,000: 90 | ₹18,000: 180 |
| Fuel, rent and other excluded spends | ₹1,000: 0 | ₹1,000: 0 | ₹2,000: 0 |
| CashPoints a year | 6,720 | 19,080 | 32,160 |
| Cashback at 20 paise | ₹1,344 | ₹3,816 | ₹6,432 |
| Quarterly vouchers | None | ₹2,000 | ₹2,000 |
| Redemption fees | ₹118 | ₹236 | ₹354 |
| Net yearly value, fee waived | ₹1,226 | ₹5,580 | ₹8,078 |
Light, ₹12,000 a month. ₹5,000 at Amazon and Swiggy earns 500 CashPoints and ₹6,000 elsewhere earns 60, so 560 a month, 6,720 a year (560 times 12), or ₹1,344 as cashback. Quarters of ₹36,000 (₹12,000 times 3) miss the voucher, but ₹1,44,000 a year (₹12,000 times 12) easily clear the ₹50,000 waiver. Two redemptions cost ₹118 (2 times ₹59), leaving ₹1,226.
Typical, ₹25,000 a month. Say ₹8,000 on Amazon and Flipkart, ₹4,000 on BigBasket and ₹3,000 on Swiggy: that ₹15,000 earns 1,500 CashPoints, and ₹9,000 elsewhere adds 90. So 1,590 a month, 19,080 a year and ₹3,816 in cashback. Each quarter is ₹75,000 (₹25,000 times 3), so four ₹500 vouchers add ₹2,000. After four redemptions at ₹59 (₹236), the year are worth ₹5,580.
Heavy, ₹50,000 a month. ₹30,000 at the five brands would be 3,000 CashPoints, but the cap stops at 2,500, which ₹25,000 already fills, so the last ₹5,000 should goes on another card. Add 180 from ₹18,000 of other spends: 2,680 a month, 32,160 a year, ₹6,432. With ₹2,000 in vouchers and ₹354 in fees (6 times ₹59), that's ₹8,078 on ₹6,00,000 of yearly spend (₹50,000 times 12), about 1.35% (₹8,078 divided by ₹6,00,000).

Who can get MoneyBack+, and how to apply
For salaried applicants HDFC's eligibility page asks for age 21 to 60 and gross monthly income above ₹20,000; the product page says net monthly income above ₹20,000 instead, so it is safer to count your take-home pay. Self-employed applicants needs an ITR above ₹6 lakh a year and an age between 21 and 65. You must be an Indian national.
There's no card-specific document list from HDFC. The bank's general advice is proof of identity, address and income, which existing HDFC Bank customers may not have to give again. Applications go through the card page online or through a branch, and HDFC's FAQ says the branch visit isn't mandatory. For a online application expect a Video KYC call, which the RBI's KYC Directions treat equal to a face-to-face check.
What HDFC will weigh
- Your income and all the credit limits you holds elsewhere, which card issuers must assess under the RBI's 2025 Directions.
- Your credit history. On Experian's 300 to 900 scale, above 750 is generally considered good; CRIF draws the line at 700.
- Your KYC papers: passport, driving licence, proof of possession of Aadhaar, voter ID, NREGA job card or NPR letter, along with PAN or Form 60.
The one-page Key Fact Statement that HDFC must hand over with the application shows the rate and every charge, so read it before signing. Approval is HDFC Bank's decision, and if it declines, it has to give you the specific reasons in writing. By RBI's count HDFC is the largest issuer, with 2,73,79,937 cards outstanding in September 2026, about 21.8% of the 12,53,15,381 for all banks.

Pros, cons and who MoneyBack+ suits
MoneyBack+ is a starter card first and a rewards card second. The ₹500 fee is low, almost anyone using it monthly gets it waived, the ₹20,000 income bar is modest, and the five 10X brands are where many young earner shop already.
But the value has thinned. Cashback fell to 20 paise in November 2025, the base earn now counts in ₹200 blocks, and each redemption takes ₹59. Even the heavy example returns about 1.35% overall. It's more like a good card to build credit history with than a card for squeezing rewards.
Who gains most: someone spending ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 a month at Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy and BigBasket, who crosses ₹50,000 each quarter for the vouchers and who redeem cashback in large lots. Booking flights through SmartBuy gets 25 paise a point instead of 20.
Who should skip it: anyone whose money mostly go to fuel, rent or offline shops off the list, travellers wanting lounges or low forex, and heavy online shoppers who would pass 2,500 CashPoints by mid-month. For them Millennia's 5%, compared below, gives more. And if you want insurance with your card, none is listed for MoneyBack+.
Pros
- A low ₹500 plus GST fee, waived on ₹50,000 of yearly spends, about ₹4,167 a month
- 10X CashPoints at Amazon, BigBasket, Flipkart, Reliance Smart SuperStore and Swiggy
- A ₹500 gift voucher for every calendar quarter with ₹50,000 of spends, up to ₹2,000 a year
- The RuPay variant links to UPI and earns 2 CashPoints per ₹150 there, up to 500 a month
- Free add-on cards and a 1% fuel surcharge waiver up to ₹250 a statement cycle
Cons
- Cashback value cut to 20 paise a CashPoint from 1 November 2025
- The 10X stops at 2,500 CashPoints a month, worth ₹500 as cashback
- Every cashback redemption costs ₹50 plus GST, with a ₹500 minimum
- Base earn of 2 CashPoints per ₹200 is only 0.2% as cashback
- No lounge access and a 3.5% forex markup
- The 10X does not apply through SmartBuy or PayZapp, or on EMI
MoneyBack+ against three similar shopping cards
All three costs ₹500 to ₹1,000 a year and reward online shopping, but they value points very differently.
HDFC Bank Millennia
HDFC's own Millennia costs ₹1,000 plus GST, waived on ₹1 lakh a year. It pays 5% on ten merchants, Amazon, Flipkart and Swiggy among them, plus 1% on other spends; both buckets stop at 1,000 CashPoints a month, and there a CashPoint is worth ₹1. That's up to ₹1,000 a month from its 5% group against ₹500 from MoneyBack+'s 10X. A ₹1 lakh quarter brings a ₹1,000 voucher or a lounge visit.
SimplyCLICK SBI Card
The SimplyCLICK SBI Card costs ₹499 plus GST, reversed on ₹1 lakh a year. It gives 10 points per ₹100 at partners such as Myntra, Swiggy, BookMyShow and Cleartrip with no cap, 5 per ₹100 on other online spends up to 10,000 points a month and 1 per ₹100 offline, at 25 paise a point. It adds a ₹500 Amazon Pay gift card on joining and ₹2,000 travel vouchers at ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh of online spends.
Flipkart Axis Bank
Axis's Flipkart co-brand also charges ₹500 plus GST but needs ₹3.5 lakh for a waiver. Its cashback lands on the statement with no redemption fee. Myntra pays 7.5% and Flipkart and Cleartrip 5%, with a ₹4,000 cap per statement quarter on each; Swiggy, Uber and PVR pay 4% with no cap, and the rest 1%.
None of the three, nor MoneyBack+, has a standing lounge benefit, and all four charge 3.5% on foreign currency.
Who should pick which
- MoneyBack+, if you're new to credit, BigBasket and Reliance Smart are in your routine, and you want RuPay on UPI.
- Millennia, if you spends ₹10,000 or more a month on its ten merchants and want ₹1 a point.
- SimplyCLICK, if your online spending is spread across many sites, including its partner list.
- Flipkart Axis, when most orders go to Flipkart or Myntra and you like cashback without a redemption step.
