IDFC FIRST Bank Loan App Real or Fake? What FIRSTmoney Really Costs
By Ramesh Kulkarni · Content Writer Edited by BankCreds Content & SEO Team Updated 4 November 2026 Reviewed by BankCreds Financial Experts The IDFC FIRST Bank loan app is real. It's the bank's own mobile banking app. The personal loans inside it come from IDFC FIRST Bank Limited, a private sector bank that RBI counts among scheduled commercial banks.
Real and cheap are two separate questions, though. The loan sold as FIRSTmoney has no processing fee and a starting rate of 9.99% a year. Yet the same app can also show pre-qualified loans that charge a fee, capped at 3.5% plus GST. So before you accept, open the Key Fact Statement (KFS) and find the product name and the APR.
Quick answer
- Real app, real bank: the bank itself publishes "IDFC FIRST Bank: MobileBanking" on Google Play. Its own lending page names that app as the home of FIRSTmoney.
- Regulated: RBI's list of scheduled commercial banks includes IDFC FIRST Bank Limited. Being a bank, it won't show up on the NBFC register.
- Good best case: FIRSTmoney has no processing fee, no foreclosure charge and rates from 9.99% a year.
- Wide range: the bank's own Play listing quotes an APR of 11% to 28%.
- Weak spot: agents and sales calls. Recovery and sales agents make up 30% of complaints in the bank's own data.
Who runs the IDFC FIRST Bank app and who lends the money
There's no middleman here. The app and the loan both belong to IDFC FIRST Bank Limited. Its registered office is in Chennai and its corporate office is in Mumbai.
The bank took its current form on 18 December 2018. That's when IDFC Bank merged with Capital First, a lender to consumers and small firms. Its loan agreement describes it as a banking company under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. Its company number (CIN) is L65110TN2014PLC097792.
Loans are only one part of the app. It's a full banking app for accounts, cards, UPI and investments. The personal loan you'll see most often is FIRSTmoney, which the bank calls a Smart Personal Loan.
The app may also show "pre-qualified" loan offers. These follow a different list of charges, set out in the cost section below. Your KFS tells you which kind you've got.
IDFC FIRST Bank lends through other apps as well. Its digital lending page lists these partners for personal loans:
- Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm
- CRED, INDmoney, ET Money, Groww and Angel One
- Navi, which co-lends with the bank (see our Navi review)
- Paisabazaar, which shows pre-qualified offers
The same page says Moneyview, PaySense, Flipkart and Ola now only service old loans. The bank has stopped taking new borrowers through them. In every partner app the bank is still your lender, but the amount, tenure and fees can differ.
Is IDFC FIRST Bank RBI registered? Five checks you can repeat
Banks and NBFCs sit on different RBI lists. So if you search the NBFC register for IDFC FIRST Bank and find nothing, don't panic. That's expected. Here's what we checked on 4 November 2026.
- Find the bank on RBI's bank list. Open RBI's List of Scheduled Commercial Banks. IDFC FIRST Bank Limited is entry 11 under Domestic Private Sector Banks.
- Confirm the app belongs to the bank. The bank's Digital Lending Partners page has an entry for FIRSTmoney. It names the app "IDFC FIRST BANK" and links its Google Play page.
- Match the developer on Play. The genuine app is "IDFC FIRST Bank: MobileBanking". The developer line should read IDFC FIRST Bank Ltd.
- Try RBI's directory of lending apps. RBI publishes a list of apps used by regulated lenders. It wouldn't load for us, so this check stays open. Try it yourself before you sign.
- Look for RBI action. RBI press releases show two fines on the bank, covered further down. We found no RBI order stopping it from lending.

What an IDFC FIRST Bank personal loan costs
The bank publishes plenty of numbers. The trouble is that its pages don't always agree. Here's each figure with the page it came from, as of November 2026.
Term | What the bank publishes | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
Amount | ₹50,000 to ₹15 lakh | FIRSTmoney loan page |
Amount | Up to ₹10 lakh | Bank's own lending app disclosure |
Amount | ₹20,000 to ₹40 lakh | Google Play listing |
Tenure | 9 to 60 months | FIRSTmoney pages |
Tenure | 6 to 60 months | Google Play listing |
Interest | From 9.99% a year, reducing balance | FIRSTmoney pages |
APR | 11% to 28% | Google Play listing |
Processing fee | Zero on FIRSTmoney | Fees and charges page |
Processing fee | Up to 3.5% + GST on pre-qualified loans | Fees and charges page |
Foreclosure | Nil on FIRSTmoney, part payment not allowed | Fees and charges page |
Foreclosure | 5% of principal, only after 12 EMIs, pre-qualified loans | Fees and charges page |
Late payment | 12% a year or ₹300, whichever is higher | Fees and charges page |
Late payment | Up to 2% of the unpaid EMI | Interest rate page |
Bounce charge | 12% of the EMI, ₹400 to ₹1,000 + GST | Fees and charges page |
Cooling-off | 3 days, no penalty | Fees and charges page |
The Play listing includes a sample loan of ₹1,00,000 over 12 months at 20%. A fee of ₹3,499, GST included, comes off first, so ₹96,501 lands in your account. The EMI is ₹9,264 and you repay ₹1,11,168 in all. Interest and fee together cost ₹14,667.
Now take FIRSTmoney at its best. At 9.99% with no fee, the same ₹1,00,000 over 12 months means an EMI of about ₹8,791. Total interest is about ₹5,493. That gap is exactly why the KFS matters.
One more clue: the loan calculator on the bank's site lets you slide the rate up to 38%. That's only a calculator range. Still, it shows that 9.99% is a floor, not a promise.
Why some people think IDFC FIRST Bank loans are fake
IDFC FIRST Bank is a listed, regulated bank, so "fake" is the wrong word. The doubts come from gaps between the ads and what some borrowers get.
- The 9.99% ad versus the rate offered. In October 2026 reviews, borrowers said they were shown 29% and 32%. The bank calls 9.99% indicative and says the final rate depends on your profile.
- Two kinds of loan in one app. "Zero fee, zero foreclosure" is a FIRSTmoney promise. A pre-qualified loan can carry a fee and a 5% foreclosure charge.
- Pages that disagree. One page sets the late fee at 12% a year or ₹300. Another says up to 2% of the EMI, and a third says up to 2.5%.
- Endless sales calls. Many reviewers say loan and card calls keep coming after DND, and even after a loan is closed.
- The 2026 fraud headlines. In February 2026 the bank reported a suspected staff fraud worth about ₹590 crore at one Chandigarh branch. The money sat in accounts held by the Haryana government. The bank said other customers weren't hit, and it repaid ₹583 crore to state departments.
Then there are RBI's fines. In April 2024 RBI fined the bank ₹1 crore over rules on loans and advances. In April 2025 came a ₹38.60 lakh fine for KYC lapses on some current accounts. These punish rule breaks. They don't mean the loans are fake.
What's normal? Expect a credit check and a video KYC call where you show your PAN card. You'll also set up an EMI mandate, and your state's stamp duty applies. None of these is a warning sign.
What borrowers say about the IDFC FIRST Bank app
On 4 November 2026 the app showed 4.9 stars from 29.7 lakh reviews and over 1 crore downloads. That rating covers the whole banking app, not just its loans.
We read the newest 3,000 reviews, posted from 24 September to 3 November 2026. Of these, 2,473 gave five stars and 314 gave one star. But 2,060 of the five-star posts had three words or fewer, and "good" alone came up 969 times.
Some top-rated posts sound oddly alike. About 84 of them pair an app feature with a jokey line such as "smooth as butter". And when a low-star review has kind words, the bank sometimes replies asking for a higher rating.
Reviews that talk about loans are harsher. Of the 86 we found, 44 gave one star. Common complaints:
- loan and card sales calls several times a day
- EMIs paid but still shown as overdue in the app
- bounce or late charges people say they didn't owe
- slow NOCs, and money debited after a loan was closed
- phone support that feels fully automated
- rates far above the advertised 9.99%
Many of these posts are about two-wheeler, consumer goods and card loans rather than FIRSTmoney. Happy borrowers praise fast approval and the paperless process.
How to spot a fake IDFC FIRST Bank app, agent or call
Big banks get copied a lot, and IDFC FIRST Bank's own safety page lists the usual tricks. These checks cover most of them.
- Install from the official store only. The bank warns never to install APK files sent by SMS or WhatsApp.
- Don't pay to get a loan. The bank warns about fake ads that use its logo and demand money upfront, called a processing fee or a first EMI. Any genuine fee is cut from the loan and printed on the KFS.
- Check who sent the SMS. Real bank texts come from a sender ID that includes "IDFCB". A message from a personal mobile number is suspect.
- Don't search for a helpline. The bank says fake care numbers spread through search engines and social media. Use 1800 10 888 or the number on the back of your card.
- Mind the name. A Play app called "FirstMoney", from a developer named 1st Money, is an investment app. It has no link to the bank's FIRSTmoney loan.
- Keep your OTP, PIN and password to yourself. No genuine bank staff will ask for them.
You can forward phishing emails to reportphishing@idfcfirstbank.com.
What to do if your IDFC FIRST Bank loan goes wrong
Save screenshots of the KFS, the sanction letter and your bank statement. Then climb the bank's complaint ladder.
- Customer care. Ring 1800 10 888 at any hour, or send a WhatsApp message to 95555 55555. Email works too: banker@idfcfirstbank.com.
- Regional Nodal Officer. No useful reply within 7 days? Write to rno@idfcfirstbank.com, or phone 022-41652700 between 9:30 am and 6 pm on working days.
- Principal Nodal Officer. After another 7 days, take it to Vipul Raj at pno@idfcfirstbank.com or 1800 209 9771.
- RBI Ombudsman. If 30 days pass without a fix, complain at cms.rbi.org.in or on 14448.
- Money lost to a fake agent? Ring the cybercrime helpline, 1930, right away, and then inform the bank.
Every contact we confirmed sits on our IDFC FIRST Bank customer care page. Helplines for other lenders are in our customer care directory.
Should you take an IDFC FIRST Bank personal loan?
It can be a sound pick if:
- you're 21 to 60, you earn a salary or run your own work, and your CIBIL score is 710 or higher
- the offer in your app says FIRSTmoney, with no fee
- you may repay early and want no foreclosure charge
Think twice if:
- your score is under 710, or you need less than ₹50,000
- the KFS shows a pre-qualified loan with a fee and a 5% exit charge
- frequent sales calls would wear you down
Get at least one other bank's offer first, such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Insta Loan or Axis Bank's instant loan. Put the total rupee cost side by side, not the headline rate. Scores and full terms are in our full IDFC FIRST Bank review.
Frequently asked questions
Is the IDFC FIRST Bank loan app real or fake?
The app is genuine. "IDFC FIRST Bank: MobileBanking" on Google Play belongs to IDFC FIRST Bank. The bank's digital lending page names it as the app for FIRSTmoney. The bank lends the money itself, so no third party sits in between. Real doesn't mean every offer is cheap, though, so read the APR on your KFS.
Is IDFC FIRST Bank RBI registered?
It's a bank, so you won't find it on RBI's NBFC register. RBI's list of scheduled commercial banks includes it under domestic private sector banks. Its loan agreement calls it a banking company under the Banking Regulation Act. RBI fined it in 2024 and 2025 for rule lapses, but we found no order stopping it from lending.
What interest rate does IDFC FIRST Bank charge on a personal loan?
The lowest FIRSTmoney rate is 9.99% a year, worked out on the falling balance, and there's no processing fee. That's the floor, not the typical rate. The bank's Play listing puts the APR between 11% and 28%. Some reviewers say they were offered 29% or 32%. Your exact rate and fee appear on the KFS before you sign.
What is the IDFC FIRST Bank customer care number?
It's 1800 10 888, which the bank says works 24x7. For chat, WhatsApp banking runs on 95555 55555. For complaints, start with banker@idfcfirstbank.com, then the Regional Nodal Officer, then Principal Nodal Officer Vipul Raj on 1800 209 9771. Don't trust a number from a search ad. Check it against the bank's own site first.
How do I stop IDFC FIRST Bank loan calls or harassment?
Sales calls and recovery calls are different things. For sales calls, ask the bank in writing to stop, and complain if they don't. If a recovery agent threatens you or rings your contacts, keep a log of dates and caller numbers. Then write to the Regional Nodal Officer. The bank says it handles collection call disputes in 1 to 15 working days. For threats, call 1930.
Can I cancel or foreclose an IDFC FIRST Bank personal loan?
Yes. FIRSTmoney gives you 3 days to cancel without penalty, and you can foreclose at any time for free, though you'll need a sanction letter. Part payments aren't allowed. Pre-qualified loans work differently: you can cancel free within 15 days, but foreclosure waits until 12 EMIs and costs 5% of the principal left.
Which other apps give IDFC FIRST Bank loans?
The bank's digital lending page lists Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, CRED, Navi, Groww, INDmoney, ET Money, Angel One and Paisabazaar as partners. In each one, IDFC FIRST Bank is the lender. Moneyview, PaySense, Flipkart and Ola now only service old loans. Partner terms can differ, so check the lender's name on the KFS.
