The best card for eating out and ordering in
For someone spending ₹9,000 a month on restaurants and food delivery, HSBC Live+ returns the most in our data, about ₹12,780 a year, as its 10% rate cover dining and delivery together up to ₹1,200 a month and the ₹999 fee is reversed above ₹2 lakh of yearly spend. EazyDiner IndusInd comes close if you eat out at EazyDiner partner restaurants a lot, and IDFC FIRST Millennia is the choice if you want no fee.
What decided the order
Dining rewards look generous on the banner. Then the cap arrive. We looked at:
- The dining rate and whether it cover restaurants, delivery apps or both, as each bank defines dining by merchant code or by named app.
- The cap per month or statement cycle, and whether it is shared with other categories.
- The rupee value of a point, or the cashback, by the bank's own figure.
- The fee and the yearly spend that removes it.
Cards in the list were open for applications when we checked the banks' pages and MITCs on 5 November 2026. We don't take payment for placement from any bank; the picks follow the maths only.
Nine dining cards and the figure that decides each
No annual fee
- IDFC FIRST Millennia: lifetime free, with 10 points per ₹200 on dining including food delivery from the first spend since 18 June 2026. At 25 paise a point that's 1.25%, with no cap published. Small return, but with nothing to pay it is easy card to hold.
Order in more than you eat out
- Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank: 5% cashback in the Swiggy app, which cover food, Instamart and Dineout, capped at ₹1,500 a billing cycle, and 1% elsewhere up to ₹1,000. ₹500, with the fee from year two waived on ₹1.5 lakh. It launched in March 2026 as the successor to the old Swiggy HDFC card.
- Kotak Cashback+: 5% on online food delivery and online grocery, sharing one ₹750 cap a cycle with entertainment and fuel. Eating at the restaurant itself earn only 0.5%. ₹750, waived on ₹2 lakh.
- RBL Bank Cookies: 10% cashback on Zomato, Myntra and Uber above ₹100, up to ₹300 per brand a month. It costs ₹100 plus GST a month, but next month fee goes away whenever you spend ₹5,000 in a month.
Restaurants and delivery in one category
- HSBC Live+: 10% cashback on dining, food delivery, grocery, shopping and utilities, capped at ₹1,200 a month, and 1.5% on most other spends. ₹999, reversed above ₹2 lakh. Deciding figure: the ₹1,200 cap, which covers up to ₹12,000 of category spends a month (₹1,200 is 10% of ₹12,000).
- HSBC RuPay Cashback: 10% on dining, food delivery and grocery, works on UPI too, but all cashback on the card together stop at ₹400 a month. ₹499, reversed above ₹2 lakh.
- SimplySAVE SBI Card: 10 points per ₹150 on dining, movies, grocery and departmental stores, 1.67% at 25 paise, up to 5,000 points a month. ₹499, reversed at ₹1 lakh. A modest card; SBI Card's own card finder lists it under incomes of less than ₹50,000 a month, though that is a browsing filter and not a rule.
Eat out a lot
- EazyDiner IndusInd Bank: an extra 25% off, up to ₹1,000 a bill, when you pay through PayEazy in the EazyDiner app, up to ₹2,000 a month (₹5,000 if you spent ₹30,000 on non-dining things the month before). The MITC lists ₹2,999 with no waiver, and IndusInd says the actual fee is told at application. Deciding figure: ₹2,000 a month of restaurant discount.
- BOBCARD ETERNA: 15 points per ₹100 on restaurants (merchant code 5812), online, international and travel spends, so 3.75% at 25 paise as cashback, up to 5,000 points a cycle. ₹2,499 in the MITC, waived on ₹2.5 lakh of yearly spend; the ₹0 joining fee on the card page is a limited-period offer.
₹9,000 of food spends a month, nine ways
Our diner eat out twice a month with ₹2,500 bills, so ₹5,000 at restaurants. They orders ₹2,000 on Swiggy and ₹2,000 on Zomato, so ₹9,000 of food in all, and spend ₹11,000 on other things we count at each card's base rate. That's ₹20,000 a month, ₹2.4 lakh a year. Each card is used how its bank intend: Swiggy Ornge pays the restaurant bill through Swiggy Dineout and EazyDiner through PayEazy; the others pay at the table.
- HSBC Live+: 10% of ₹9,000 is ₹900, under the ₹1,200 cap. 1.5% of ₹11,000 is ₹165. ₹1,065 a month, ₹12,780 a year, and ₹2.4 lakh is above ₹2 lakh so the fee comes back.
- EazyDiner IndusInd: 25% of a ₹2,500 bill is ₹625, below the ₹1,000 limit, and two of them make ₹1,250, below the ₹2,000 monthly cap. ₹15,000 a year less the ₹2,999 fee is ₹12,001. We count no points, as IndusInd publish no value for them, and the discount work only at EazyDiner restaurants taking PayEazy.
- Swiggy Ornge HDFC: 5% of ₹7,000 (₹2,000 of delivery plus ₹5,000 through Dineout) is ₹350. 1% of the ₹2,000 on Zomato and the ₹11,000 is ₹130. ₹480 a month, ₹5,760 a year, fee waived from year two.
- HSBC RuPay Cashback: 10% of ₹9,000 is ₹900 and 1% of ₹11,000 is ₹110, but the card stops at ₹400 a month in all. ₹4,800 a year, fee reversed. The cap, not the rate, sets this figure.
- Kotak Cashback+: 5% of ₹4,000 of delivery is ₹200. The restaurant bills and other spends, ₹16,000 (₹5,000 plus ₹11,000), earn 0.5%, ₹80. ₹280 a month, ₹3,360 a year, fee waived.
- RBL Bank Cookies: 10% of ₹2,000 on Zomato is ₹200. Swiggy, as an online spend, earns 5 points per ₹100, 100 points; ₹16,000 in shops and restaurants at 1 per ₹100 gives 160. 260 points at up to ₹0.20 is ₹52. ₹252 a month, ₹3,024 a year, and the monthly fee keeps getting waived.
- BOBCARD ETERNA: restaurants and delivery apps (online), ₹9,000 at 15 per ₹100, give 1,350 points; ₹11,000 at 3 per ₹100 gives 330. 1,680 points at ₹0.25 is ₹420 a month, ₹5,040 a year. ₹2.4 lakh falls ₹10,000 short of the ₹2.5 lakh waiver, so the ₹2,499 fee leave ₹2,541.
- IDFC FIRST Millennia: ₹9,000 at 10 points per ₹200 is 450 points, ₹112.50; ₹11,000 at 3 per ₹200 is 165 points, ₹41.25. ₹153.75 a month, ₹1,845 a year, no fee.
- SimplySAVE SBI: SBI Card counts dining by merchant code and doesn't say if delivery apps fall in it. Restaurants only: ₹5,000 at 10 per ₹150 is about 333 points, about ₹83, plus 100 points (₹25) on the other ₹15,000, so about ₹108 a month, ₹1,300 a year. If delivery count too, ₹9,000 at 10 per ₹150 is 600 points (₹150) and the other ₹11,000 about 73 points (about ₹18), so about ₹168 a month and ₹2,020 a year.
| Card | Value a month | Fee at ₹2.4 lakh a year | Net a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| HSBC Live+ | ₹1,065 | Reversed | ₹12,780 |
| EazyDiner IndusInd Bank | ₹1,250 in discounts | ₹2,999 | ₹12,001 |
| Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank | ₹480 | Waived from year two | ₹5,760 |
| HSBC RuPay Cashback | ₹400 (capped) | Reversed | ₹4,800 |
| Kotak Cashback+ | ₹280 | Waived | ₹3,360 |
| RBL Bank Cookies | ₹252 | Waived each month | ₹3,024 |
| BOBCARD ETERNA | ₹420 | ₹2,499 | ₹2,541 |
| IDFC FIRST Millennia | ₹153.75 | Nil | ₹1,845 |
| SimplySAVE SBI Card | About ₹108 to ₹168 | Reversed | About ₹1,300 to ₹2,020 |
Fees are before GST. Welcome gifts like the Swiggy One membership or the EazyDiner Prime membership are not counted in these number. If you spend more on food, the caps matter even more: HSBC Live+ stops adding at ₹12,000 a month of category spends, Swiggy Ornge at ₹30,000 on Swiggy (₹1,500 is 5% of it), and HSBC RuPay Cashback at just ₹4,000 (₹400 is 10% of it).
What eats into dining rewards
- "Dining" means a merchant code. IDFC FIRST counts codes 5812, 5813 and 5814 and says food delivery is included; BOBCARD ETERNA's dining rate names only code 5812, though delivery apps still earn its online rate. A restaurant whose card machine is set up under another code may earn base rate only. Banks don't promise otherwise.
- Shared and total caps. Kotak's ₹750 cap is shared by food delivery, grocery, entertainment and fuel. HSBC RuPay Cashback's ₹400 cap covers the 1% spends too. Swiggy Ornge has a ₹2,500 limit on all cashback in a statement cycle. It is not clear from HSBC whether the Live+ ₹1,200 cap run by calendar month or statement month.
- Offline vs online. Kotak Cashback+ pays 5% only on online food delivery; the same meal at the restaurant earns 0.5%. RBL Cookies gives 5 points per ₹100 online but 1 in shops and restaurants.
- Exclusions inside the app. Swiggy Money wallet loads and Swiggy Liquor do not earn the 5% on Swiggy Ornge.
- UPI earns less. On Kotak's RuPay variant, every UPI spend earns 0.5%, even food delivery; on BOBCARD ETERNA, UPI earn core points only. HSBC RuPay Cashback does pay its rates on UPI, apart from excluded categories.
- Points that expire fast. EazyDiner IndusInd reward points expire at the end of every anniversary year. Kotak's minimum cashback redemption go up from 100 to 500 points on 1 December 2026, and IDFC FIRST points now last 24 months.
- Monthly fee on Cookies. Any month you spend under ₹5,000, the next month's ₹100 plus GST is charged. Twelve such months would be ₹1,200 before GST.
- Interest and other changes. BOBCARD raised ETERNA's interest from 3.25% to 3.75% a month on 15 July 2026 and withdrew its accidental death cover. The old Swiggy HDFC card is being phased out until March 2027, with holders moved to Ornge or BLCK.
Which dining card fits your eating habits
- Most of your food comes from Swiggy: Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank. Use Dineout for restaurant bills too and the 5% cover nearly all your food spends.
- You order on Zomato: RBL Bank Cookies, but only up to ₹3,000 of Zomato a month, where the ₹300 cap is reached (10% of ₹3,000). Above that, HSBC Live+ pays better.
- A mix of restaurants, delivery and groceries: HSBC Live+, if you earn ₹6 lakh a year as a salaried person and live in a city HSBC serves. It is the strongest all-round card here till your category spends crosses ₹12,000 a month.
- Fine dining several times a month: EazyDiner IndusInd Bank, as long as your regular restaurants take PayEazy. Check the app before applying, because the card is of no use at places where PayEazy are not taken.
- Small food budget and you pay by UPI: HSBC RuPay Cashback. Up to ₹4,000 of food spends a month is fully rewarded at 10%, as long as little else goes on it.
- You want no annual fee: IDFC FIRST Millennia. Lower return, but you never pay to keep it.
- High income, eats out and travels: BOBCARD ETERNA once your yearly spend is above ₹2.5 lakh, since its 5X also covers travel and international spends.
- You want an SBI card and a low entry bar: SimplySAVE SBI Card, which also rewards grocery and movies.
