Best Grocery Credit Cards in India 2026: The Monthly Cap Decides
The best grocery credit card is the one whose monthly cap fits your basket. HSBC Live+ pays 10% up to ₹1,200 a month, ₹14,400 a year on a ₹12,000 grocery month, while HSBC RuPay Cashback and Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank lead for a fee of ₹500 or less. App shoppers gain from 5% on Swiggy Ornge or Kotak Cashback+.
In short
HSBC Live+ returns the most on a ₹12,000 grocery month if you meet HSBC's income and city rules; SBI SimplySAVE and RBL Shoprite are the low-fee choices otherwise.
Best for
- Families whose grocery and food bill is near ₹12,000 a month, where HSBC Live+ reaches its ₹1,200 cap
- People who want a fee of ₹1,000 or less that grocery spend can earn back
- Shoppers who place most orders on one app, such as Instamart or BigBasket
Skip it if
- You shop mostly at Metro Cash & Carry or Walmart, where SBI cards pay no extra points
- You carry a balance, since 3.75% to 3.99% a month in interest erases the reward
- You will not track a monthly cap on each card
Highlights
- HSBC Live+: 10% on groceries, capped at ₹1,200 a month
- HSBC RuPay Cashback: 10% on groceries, all cashback capped at ₹400 a month
- RBL Shoprite: 20 points per ₹100 on groceries, up to 1,000 points a month
- SBI SimplySAVE: 10 points per ₹150, up to 5,000 points a month
- Data verified on 5 November 2026

The short answer on grocery cards
If you live in one of HSBC's listed cities and earn ₹6,00,000 a year or more, HSBC Live+ return the most on a normal grocery month, because its 10% rate runs all the way to ₹1,200 a month. Everyone else should read the cap first and the headline rate second, since a 10% card capped at ₹400 can pay less than a 5% card with room to spare.
How we chose
We kept every active card in our data that pays extra on grocery merchant codes or on a grocery app it is tied to, then checked four things: the reward in rupees after a point's real value, the monthly cap, what grocery spend alone does for the fee waiver, and the published income rules. Cards that are paused or not taking applications was left out.
Figures come from our card files, built from the banks' own pages, MITCs and terms and verified on 5 November 2026. Fees are before GST, which is 18% on card fees. No bank paid for a place on this page; the order is our own.
Banks spot grocery by the shop's merchant category code, mostly 5411 for grocery stores and supermarkets, so a card pays its grocery rate only when the merchant bills under a code the bank names. One supermarket can earn full rate on one card and base rate on a other.
Eight grocery cards worth a look
Grouped by annual fee, lowest first. Each pick have one deciding figure, and on grocery cards it is nearly always a cap.
Annual fee up to ₹500
- HSBC RuPay Cashback, ₹499, reversed above ₹2,00,000 of yearly spend: 10% on dining, food delivery and groceries, 1% elsewhere, and it works on UPI. The deciding figure is the ₹400 monthly cap on all its cashback, which a ₹4,000 grocery bill reach alone (₹4,000 x 10%).
- SBI SimplySAVE, ₹499, reversed from the second year on ₹1,00,000 of yearly spend: 10 Reward Points per ₹150 at grocery stores, supermarkets, departmental stores, restaurants and movies. At 4 points to the rupee that's ₹2.50 per ₹150, about 1.67%. The 5,000-point monthly cap needs ₹75,000 of such spend (5,000 / 10 x ₹150), so very much room is there.
- RBL Shoprite, ₹500, which RBL charges as an annual fee from the first year rather than a joining fee, waived for the next year on ₹1,50,000 of purchases. Grocery earns 20 points per ₹100, 5% at RBL's stated value of up to ₹0.25 a point. The deciding figure is 1,000 points a calendar month: the 5% stops at ₹5,000 of grocery and drop to 1 point per ₹100 after.
- Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank, ₹500, waived from the second year on ₹1.5 lakh of spend: 5% cashback on the Swiggy app, Instamart included, up to ₹1,500 a billing cycle, and 1% on most other spends up to ₹1,000 a cycle. The pick if your weekly shop already comes from Instamart.
Annual fee ₹501 to ₹1,500
- Kotak Cashback+, ₹750, waived on ₹2 lakh of retail spends: 5% on online grocery and online food delivery, but only 0.5% on supermarket bills paid in the store. Its 750-point cap per billing cycle is shared with online entertainment and fuel, which makes it a online-only grocery card.
- HSBC Live+, ₹999, reversed above ₹2,00,000 of yearly spend: 10% on dining, food delivery, grocery, shopping and utility spends up to ₹1,200 a month, and 1.5% on most other spends. The cap is shared, so restaurant and electricity bills eats into the grocery room.
- Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank, ₹1,499, waived on ₹3,00,000 a year: 5% as NeuCoins on BigBasket and other Tata brands and 1.5% elsewhere, with grocery NeuCoins capped at 2,000 a month. A NeuCoin is worth ₹1 only inside Tata Neu, so it suits people who already buy there.
Annual fee above ₹1,500
- SBI Card PRIME, ₹2,999, waived on ₹3 lakh of annual spend: 10 points per ₹100 on grocery, departmental stores, dining and movies, 2.5% at ₹0.25 a point, up to 7,500 points a calendar month. It needs a bigger total spend, grocery on its own will not cover the fee.
One ₹12,000 grocery month on every pick
The basket: ₹12,000 of groceries a month, ₹5,000 ordered on an app and ₹7,000 paid at a supermarket. Each card is used on the app it rewards most (Instamart for Swiggy Ornge, BigBasket for Tata Neu Infinity, any online grocer for Kotak). Nothing else go on the card, so this is grocery alone.
| Card | How the ₹12,000 earns | A month | A year | Annual fee (GST extra) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HSBC Live+ | 10% of ₹12,000 is ₹1,200, exactly the cap | ₹1,200 | ₹14,400 | ₹999 |
| HSBC RuPay Cashback | 10% would be ₹1,200; the cap is ₹400 | ₹400 | ₹4,800 | ₹499 |
| Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank | 5% of ₹5,000 is ₹250; 1.5% of ₹7,000 is ₹105 | ₹355 in NeuCoins | ₹4,260 | ₹1,499 |
| Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank | 5% of ₹5,000 is ₹250; 1% of ₹7,000 is ₹70 | ₹320 | ₹3,840 | ₹500 |
| SBI Card PRIME | 10 points per ₹100 on ₹12,000 is 1,200 points at ₹0.25 | ₹300 | ₹3,600 | ₹2,999 |
| Kotak Cashback+ | 5% of ₹5,000 is ₹250; 0.5% of ₹7,000 is ₹35 | ₹285 | ₹3,420 | ₹750 |
| RBL Shoprite | 1,000 points on the first ₹5,000 plus 70 on ₹7,000 is 1,070 points at ₹0.25 | ₹267.50 | ₹3,210 | ₹500 |
| SBI SimplySAVE | 80 lots of ₹150 x 10 points is 800 points at ₹0.25 | ₹200 | ₹2,400 | ₹499 |
For RBL Shoprite and the two SBI cards we treated all ₹12,000 as grocery-coded, which is generous if your app bills under another code, and the Live+ figure holds only if nothing else from its 10% group shares the cap.
What grocery spend does to the fee
A year of this basket is ₹1,44,000 (₹12,000 x 12). That clears SimplySAVE's ₹1,00,000 waiver, falls ₹6,000 short of the ₹1,50,000 that RBL Shoprite and Swiggy Ornge needs, and is well below the ₹2,00,000 on the HSBC cards and ₹3,00,000 on Tata Neu Infinity and PRIME. With 18% GST, what is left after the fee:
- HSBC Live+: ₹14,400 less ₹1,178.82 (₹999 plus ₹179.82 GST) leaves ₹13,221.18 a year.
- HSBC RuPay Cashback: ₹4,800 less ₹588.82 (₹499 plus ₹89.82) leaves ₹4,211.18.
- Tata Neu Infinity: ₹4,260 in NeuCoins less ₹1,768.82 (₹1,499 plus ₹269.82) leaves ₹2,491.18, and in year one HDFC give 1,499 NeuCoins back for the fee.
- SBI Card PRIME: ₹3,600 less ₹3,538.82 (₹2,999 plus ₹539.82) leaves only ₹61.18, so PRIME works only when other spends push you past ₹3 lakh.
- SBI SimplySAVE: from the second year the ₹499 fee is reversed, so you keep the full ₹2,400.
Redeeming costs too: SBI Card credits points to the bill only in lots of 4,000, at ₹99 plus tax each time, so SimplySAVE's 9,600 points a year (800 x 12) becomes two ₹1,000 credits with 1,600 left over.
When a second card helps
Add ₹4,000 of restaurant bills to Live+ and ₹16,000 sits in its 10% group, still capped at ₹1,200. Move the ₹5,000 of Instamart orders to Swiggy Ornge and Live+ earns ₹1,100 on the remaining ₹11,000 while Ornge adds ₹250: ₹1,350 against ₹1,200, a gain of ₹150 a month that over the year is ₹1,800 coming.
Where grocery rewards leak
- Shared caps. Live+'s ₹1,200 covers dining, food delivery, grocery, shopping and utility bills together. RuPay Cashback's ₹400 covers its 10% and its 1% both, and Kotak Cashback+'s 750 points are shared with online entertainment and fuel.
- Wholesale clubs. SBI SimplySAVE and PRIME give no accelerated points on grocery or departmental spends at Metro Cash & Carry, Flipkart Wholesale and Walmart, and the HSBC cards exclude wholesale clubs from cashback altogether. If you stock up at one of these, the headline rate don't apply.
- Rounding. SimplySAVE earns per full ₹150, so an ₹80 bill earns nothing, and Tata Neu cards count in multiples of ₹100. Lots of small top-up orders loses more than you think.
- Rule changes. Kotak raises the minimum Cashback+ redemption from 100 to 500 points on 1 December 2026. From 25 November 2026 Tata Neu HDFC cardholders must claim NeuCoins in the app within 12 months of the statement, they no longer arrive automatic.
- Interest wipes it out. Most of these cards charge 3.75% a month (45% a year); RBL Shoprite charges 3.99%. Carry a ₹12,000 grocery bill for 30 days and the interest is about ₹443.84 (30 x ₹12,000 x 45% / 365), more than any pick except Live+ earns in a month.
- Wallet loads. They earn nothing here, and HDFC charges 1% on wallet loads above ₹10,000 a calendar month, capped at ₹4,999. Loading a grocery wallet to "save" is a costly price for nothing.
Which grocery card fits which family
- Salaried on ₹6,00,000 a year or more in an HSBC city, grocery and food near ₹12,000 a month: HSBC Live+ (self-employed need ₹12,00,000). Nothing else here come close at that spend.
- A basket of about ₹4,000, same income and cities: HSBC RuPay Cashback, which reaches its ₹400 cap exactly at ₹4,000 and costs ₹499 against ₹999.
- Supermarket shopper outside HSBC's reach: SBI SimplySAVE if yearly spend clears ₹1,00,000 so the fee goes away, or RBL Shoprite if your grocery bill sit near ₹5,000, where its 1,000-point cap is used fully and worth ₹250 a month.
- Instamart regular: Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank, with a floor of ₹20,000 net monthly income if salaried or an ITR above ₹6 lakh.
- BigBasket and Tata brands: Tata Neu Infinity above ₹1 lakh a month of income, or Tata Neu Plus HDFC Bank at ₹499 above ₹25,000, paying 2% on Tata brands with grocery NeuCoins capped at 1,000 a month.
- Online grocery, no HSBC: Kotak Cashback+, as long as the orders is placed online.
- High total spender who eats out: SBI Card PRIME once yearly spend passes ₹3 lakh, when 2.5% on grocery and dining and a ₹1,000 Pizza Hut voucher for each ₹50,000 quarter add up.
- Paying only the minimum due: none. Clear the interest first, then a grocery card make sense.
For bills paid by UPI QR at a local shop only RuPay cards work; our UPI credit card picks show which still pay on UPI. See also our dining picks, cashback cards explained and the credit cards hub.
Before you apply
RBI leaves income and age rules to the issuer. It does require the bank to assess your independent financial means, set the limit after looking at your other credit limits, give a one-page Key Fact Statement with the application and tell you the specific reasons in writing if it say no.
- HSBC Live+ and RuPay Cashback: ₹6,00,000 a year salaried, ₹12,00,000 self-employed, and an address in one of HSBC's 21 listed cities such as Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune.
- Swiggy Ornge: age 21 to 60 salaried or 21 to 65 self-employed; Tata Neu Infinity: gross monthly income above ₹1 lakh or an ITR above ₹12 lakh.
- SBI SimplySAVE and PRIME: SBI Card publishes no minimum income for any card, prefers a credit score between 750 and 900, and its page gives the maximum age as 60 in one place and 70 in another.
- RBL Shoprite and Kotak Cashback+: neither bank publish age or income criteria for these cards.
Approval is the bank's decision and nobody else. If one turns you down, read the written reasons before trying the next.
