Tata Neu Plus: the entry Tata Neu card from HDFC
HDFC Bank issue two Tata Neu cards. Infinity is the bigger one; Plus, reviewed here, is the starter, with a lower fee and a much lower income bar. It pays 2% back as NeuCoins on partner Tata brands and 1% on most other spends. You can have it on Visa or RuPay, and only RuPay links to UPI. The card is active and open for applications.
NeuCoins are Tata Digital's reward currency. One NeuCoin is ₹1 on the Tata Neu app and at eligible Tata brands, and HDFC charges nothing to redeem them. The flip side is they work only inside the Tata world, so the card is mainly for people who already shops there.
The 25 November 2026 change
So far NeuCoins have landed in your Tata Neu account on their own. From 25 November 2026 they won't. You will have to claim them in the Tata Neu App within 12 months of the statement they was earned in, and once claimed they stay valid for 12 more months. Miss the window and the coins are gone.
Earlier changes
- 1 August 2024: UPI split into 0.25% from the bank plus 0.75% via the Tata Neu UPI ID, capped at 500 a month.
- 1 September 2024: utility and telecom capped at 2,000 NeuCoins a month each; none on education through apps.
- 15 January 2025: extra NeuPass 5% only for purchase done from the primary cardholder's account.
- 10 June 2025: lounge access become a voucher for each quarter with ₹50,000 of spends.
- 1 July 2025: none on online gaming; insurance capped at 2,000 a month.
- 17 November 2025: none on the monthly principal billed for SmartEMI and off-us merchant EMI.
What Tata Neu Plus costs after GST and the welcome coins
The joining fee and annual fee are ₹499 each, plus GST. At 18% the tax is ₹89.82 (18% of ₹499), so the bill shows ₹588.82. In the first year Tata Digital gives back 499 NeuCoins as a reversal of the fee, if you make a first transaction within 30 days of the card being issued, and the coins comes inside the Tata Neu App. GST is not returned, so year one really costs ₹89.82, provided you use the NeuCoins.
From year two the renewal fee goes if you spend ₹1 lakh in the year before the renewal date. That's ₹8,334 a month (₹1,00,000 divided by 12, rounded up), which a family running groceries and bills on the card should reach easy. Below it you pay ₹588.82 a year. Add-on cards are free.
Interest and late payment
A carried balance costs 3.75% a month, 45% a year, plus GST. Leave ₹25,000 unpaid for 20 days and about ₹616 of interest is added (₹25,000 times 45% times 20, divided by 365, is ₹616.44), more than three months of NeuCoins for our light spender below (170 a month). Late fees go in slabs since 1 August 2024, such as ₹100 on a ₹101 to ₹500 bill, ₹750 on ₹5,001 to ₹10,000 and ₹1,300 above ₹50,000, plus GST, after 3 grace days.
Fees on particular payments
- Foreign currency: 3.5% markup plus GST. Rupee payments to overseas merchants: 1.75% since 15 May 2026.
- Rent: 1% a transaction up to ₹4,999, and no NeuCoins on it.
- Fuel: 1% surcharge refunded on fills of ₹400 to ₹5,000, up to ₹250 a statement cycle; one fuel bill over ₹15,000 is charged 1%.
- Wallet loads and online gaming over ₹10,000 a month, and utilities over ₹50,000 a month, cost 1% each, capped at ₹4,999 a month.
- Cash withdrawal: 2.5% or ₹500, whichever are more. Card reissue: ₹199.

NeuCoins on Tata Neu Plus, with the caps applied
Partner Tata brands pays 2% as NeuCoins on non-EMI spends. Each brand has a monthly fair-usage limit on spends that earn, for example ₹50,000 at BigBasket and Tata Pay and ₹3,00,000 at Croma, which very few peoples will touch. Other brands earn 1%, and so do merchant EMI spends.
NeuPass members can earn an extra 5% on selected categories bought on the Tata Neu app or website. Tata Pay bill payments, Tanishq, Cult.fit, Air India and Tata Play are left out, and the purchase must come from the primary cardholder's own account. HDFC doesn't list the categories, so we kept this extra out of our sums.
On UPI the RuPay card earns 0.25% through any UPI app, and 1% in total when you pay with the Tata Neu UPI ID, up to 500 NeuCoins a month. At 1% the cap needs ₹50,000 of UPI spends (500 divided by 1%), so it rarely bites on this card.
Category limits and exclusions
- Grocery NeuCoins stop at 1,000 a month; utilities, telecom and cable, and insurance at 2,000 a month each.
- A limit of 25,000 per statement cycle apply to categories without their own fair-usage limit.
- Nothing on fuel, wallet loads, gift cards and vouchers, rent, government payments, cash, card fees, Smart EMI or Dial an EMI, education through apps or online gaming.
- NeuCoins are rounded down, and the MITC counts transactions in multiples of ₹100.
Lounges: one domestic lounge voucher for each calendar quarter in which you spend ₹50,000 or more, up to 4 a year. Claim it within 120 days and use it within 180 days. No international lounge is listed.
Three spenders, worked out
| Monthly spends | Light, ₹12,000 | Typical, ₹35,000 | Heavy, ₹80,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| BigBasket at 2% | ₹4,000: 80 | ₹8,000: 160 | ₹15,000: 300 |
| Other Tata brands at 2% | Tata 1mg ₹1,000: 20 | Croma and Westside ₹8,000: 160 | Croma and Tata CLiQ ₹25,000: 500 |
| Non-Tata spends at 1% | ₹4,000: 40 | ₹12,000: 120 | ₹25,000: 250 |
| UPI with the Tata Neu UPI ID at 1% | ₹3,000: 30 | ₹7,000: 70 | ₹15,000: 150 |
| NeuCoins a month | 170 | 510 | 1,200 |
| NeuCoins a year | 2,040 | 6,120 | 14,400 |
| Lounge vouchers a year | None | 4 | 4 |
| Fee from year two | Waived | Waived | Waived |
Light: ₹12,000 a month is ₹1,44,000 a year (₹12,000 times 12), past the ₹1 lakh renewal line, so 2,040 NeuCoins (170 times 12) comes in with no fee from year two. A quarter of ₹36,000 (₹12,000 times 3) misses the lounge voucher by ₹14,000 (₹50,000 minus ₹36,000).
Typical: 6,120 NeuCoins (510 times 12), or ₹6,120 to spend on Tata Neu, about 1.46% of ₹4,20,000 yearly spends (₹35,000 times 12). Each quarter crosses ₹50,000, so four lounge vouchers come along too, if you claim it within 120 days.
Heavy: 14,400 NeuCoins (1,200 times 12) on ₹9,60,000 of spends (₹80,000 times 12), which is 1.5%. Croma and Tata CLiQ make ₹25,000 of the ₹40,000 Tata spends (₹15,000 plus ₹25,000), so one big appliance a year does the work of many grocery runs. No cap is near for this person; it's the 2% rate that hold the total back, and that is where Infinity come in, as the Similar cards tab shows.

Who can apply for Tata Neu Plus
Salaried applicants should be 21 to 60 with a gross monthly income above ₹25,000; the card FAQ words the same figure as net monthly income. Self-employed applicants should be 21 to 65, and the FAQ puts their floor at ₹6 lakh a year, while the eligibility section of HDFC's page shows a different figure. Better check with the bank if you are near to the line. The card is for Indian nationals, and existing HDFC cardholders can apply too.
We couldn't read a card-specific document list. HDFC's general guidance ask for identity, address and income proof, and existing customers may not need to submit them again.
How to apply
Apply online with the Apply Now link on the card page or at an HDFC branch; visiting a branch is not compulsory. Pick RuPay if you plan to pay by UPI, because only RuPay credit cards can be linked to UPI. NeuCoins live in the primary cardholder's Tata Neu account.
What HDFC weighs
- Your own income and the card limits you already holds elsewhere, which the RBI's 2025 card Directions require the bank to assess.
- Your credit report: on CRIF's 300 to 900 scale, above 700 is generally good.
- Tata Digital has no say in approval. A co-brand partner only markets the card and cannot see your transactions; HDFC decides, and is answerable for delivering the NeuCoins it advertises.
A rejection must come with the specific reasons in writing. Agents can only collect your form, the decision is always HDFC's.

Who Tata Neu Plus suits, and who should skip it
The best match is a salaried person on a modest income who already orders groceries on BigBasket, buys medicines on Tata 1mg and picks up electronics at Croma. For them the card pay 2% where they spend anyway, the fee is close to nil after year one, and the RuPay version earns 1% on UPI. Those who spend ₹50,000 a quarter also gets a lounge voucher.
Skip it if Tata brands are a small part of your month. A 1% card paying only in NeuCoins is weaker than one paying 1% to your statement. Skip it too if the new claim step is likely to slip your mind, as NeuCoins not claimed within 12 months simply lapses. Our shopping and co-brand cards guide explains such closed-loop rewards.
Plus or Infinity?
Infinity charges ₹1,000 more a year (₹1,499 against ₹499) and needs ₹3 lakh of spends for its waiver, but pays 5% on Tata brands and 1.5% elsewhere. Only salaried people earning above ₹1 lakh a month qualifies, so for many readers Plus is the one they can actually get. If you qualify for both and spend big at Tata brands, the numbers in the next tab favours Infinity.
Pros
- ₹499 plus GST fee returned as 499 NeuCoins in the first year
- Renewal fee waived on ₹1 lakh of yearly spends
- 2% NeuCoins on partner Tata brands, with 1 NeuCoin worth ₹1 on Tata Neu
- RuPay version earns 1% on UPI through the Tata Neu UPI ID
- A domestic lounge voucher for each quarter with ₹50,000 of spends
- No fee to redeem NeuCoins, and free add-on cards
Cons
- Only 1% on non-Tata spends, paid in NeuCoins that work only with Tata Neu and its brands
- From 25 November 2026 NeuCoins must be claimed in the app within 12 months
- UPI through other apps earns just 0.25%
- Grocery NeuCoins capped at 1,000 a month
- 3.5% forex markup and no international lounge listed
Tata Neu Plus against three shopping cards
Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank
The Infinity version costs ₹1,499 plus GST, returned as 1,499 NeuCoins in year one and waived on ₹3 lakh a year. It earns 5% on Tata brands, 1.5% on other spends and up to 1.5% on UPI, gives 2 domestic lounge vouchers a quarter on ₹50,000 of spends, and charges 2% on forex. Take our heavy spender: ₹40,000 at Tata brands earns 2,000 NeuCoins a month on Infinity at 5% against 800 at 2%, ₹25,000 of other spends 375 at 1.5% against 250, and ₹15,000 of UPI 225 against 150. That's 2,600 against 1,200 a month, a gap of 1,400, or 16,800 a year (1,400 times 12), with the fee waived on both at that spend. The catch is income: above ₹1 lakh a month for salaried applicants.
Amazon Pay ICICI Bank
Amazon Pay ICICI has no joining or annual fee at all. Prime members get 5% on Amazon and others 3%, with 2% at Amazon Pay partner merchants and 1% elsewhere, paid as Amazon Pay balance. Forex is 1.99%. It's invite only and the application starts on Amazon, it needs ₹30,000 a month.
Flipkart Axis Bank
Flipkart Axis costs ₹500 plus GST and pays 7.5% on Myntra and 5% on Flipkart and Cleartrip, each capped at ₹4,000 a statement quarter, as statement credit. Its waiver needs ₹3.5 lakh a year, a real cost for a light spender.
SBI Card issues its own Tata Neu Infinity card too.
Who should pick which
- Tata Neu Plus: a Tata shopper on a moderate income who will claim the NeuCoins.
- Tata Neu Infinity: the same shopper earning above ₹1 lakh a month and spending ₹3 lakh a year.
- Amazon Pay ICICI: Amazon is your main store and you has an invite.
- Flipkart Axis: Myntra and Flipkart orders are your biggest spends.
