ICICI Bank Rubyx Credit Card Review: Two Cards in One and a ₹3 Lakh Target

The middle rung of ICICI's rewards ladder
Rubyx sits between Coral and Sapphiro in ICICI Bank's range. It is issued as a dual card, so one account gives you two cards, either a Mastercard with an American Express card or a Visa with a RuPay card. The RuPay one works on UPI, which is handy when a shop take only QR payments. The card is active and accepting applications.
Joining costs ₹3,000 + GST and every year after cost ₹2,000 + GST. Points come at 2 per ₹100 in India and 4 per ₹100 on spends abroad. Our credit cards guide explains how rewards cards differ from cashback ones.
Know these before you apply
- The fee reversal. ICICI's terms reverse that year's ₹2,000 fee once you spend ₹3 lakh in the card year. The card page say instead that the fee is waived for the next year.
- No published point value. ICICI's current pages give no rupee value for a Rubyx point, and each redemption costs ₹99 + GST.
- Two networks, one set of visits. On the dual card the 2 domestic lounge visits a quarter are split as 1 per variant.
Changes since 2024
Points on rent and wallet top-ups ended on 5 February 2024. Then November 2024 bring an interest rate of 3.75% a month (45% a year), new 1% charges on fuel beyond ₹10,000, on utility payments beyond ₹50,000 and on education paid through apps, a ₹199 add-on fee, spend ceilings for points on utility, insurance and groceries, and the exclusion of rent, government and education payments from milestone and reversal counts.
Airport lounges became conditional on 1 January 2025, when ICICI tied them to ₹75,000 of spend in the previous quarter. In 2026 the list grew longer: a 3.5% currency conversion fee from 15 January, in place of 1%, with charges on wallet loads, transport and gaming the same day; a ceiling on transport points from 1 February; a new minimum due calculation from 1 March; and BookMyShow linked to ₹25,000 of quarterly spend from 1 April.
A ₹3,000 entry, then ₹2,000 a year
Add 18% GST and the joining fee become ₹3,540 (₹3,000 plus ₹540), and the yearly fee ₹2,360 (₹2,000 plus ₹360). Paying the joining fee is what brings the welcome vouchers, which ICICI says come within 45 days.
How the ₹3 lakh reversal works
Per ICICI's terms, when you complete a card year with ₹3 lakh of spends, the fee for that year is reversed. The card page words it as a waiver for the next year if you spend over ₹3 lakh; our reading follow the terms. ₹3,00,000 over 12 months is ₹25,000 a month, and EMIs, fees, interest, reversals and rent, government and education payments don't count toward it.
A salaried person who meets the ₹75,000-a-month income bar and run most spending through the card should clear it comfortably. If Rubyx is only for travel and the odd dinner, budget ₹2,360 every year.
Interest and penalties
Carrying a balance costs 3.75% a month (45% a year). Say ₹40,000 is left unpaid for a month, that is ₹1,500 of interest before GST (3.75% of ₹40,000). Late fees climb with the unpaid balance after the due date, nil below ₹100 and up to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000, and apply only after the minimum due has stayed unpaid 3 days past the due date. Cash advances cost 2.5%, at least ₹500, with interest from the same day; in the first 180 days cash is limited to 10% of your limit, up to ₹20,000.
Abroad, and the other charges
- Forex mark-up 3.5%, and from 15 January 2026 a 3.5% currency conversion fee on rupee payments to merchants abroad.
- Rent 1%; fuel above ₹10,000 1%; utilities and transport above ₹50,000 1% each.
- Education through third-party apps 1%; wallet loads of ₹5,000 or more 1%; skill-based gaming 2%.
- Add-on ₹199; branch cash payment ₹150; bounced cheque or auto-debit 2% of the total due, minimum ₹500; over-limit, only if you opt in, 2.5% with a ₹550 minimum.
- Replacement card ₹200, rising to ₹300 from 11 December 2026; each reward redemption ₹99 + GST.
Fuel gets a 1% surcharge waiver at any pump on bills of ₹400 to ₹4,000, and the MITC counts up to ₹50,000 of such spends a cycle. The fuel itself earns nothing.

Earning, ceilings and the milestone ladder
The base rate is 2 ICICI Bank Reward Points per ₹100 on domestic spends and 4 per ₹100 on international spends, while utility and insurance payments earn 1 per ₹100. ICICI states no cap on the international rate. Nothing is earned on cash advances, rent, wallet loads, fuel, EMI transactions, or fees, interest and charges.
Some categories earn only up to a spend ceiling each statement cycle: ₹80,000 for utilities, ₹80,000 for insurance, ₹40,000 for grocery and departmental stores, and ₹20,000 for transport since 1 February 2026. Spending past those amounts earn no points.
What a point is worth
ICICI's current Rubyx pages give no rupee value for a point. You redeem through the ICICI Bank Rewards catalogue at ₹99 + GST a time, and points expire 3 years after issue. Because the value is unknown, each worked example below ends with a break-even figure, the amount one point must be worth to pay the fee.
Welcome vouchers
On payment of the joining fee, ICICI lists these vouchers: Tata CLiQ ₹2,000, EaseMyTrip ₹2,000 as two ₹1,000 domestic flight vouchers, Croma ₹1,000 as two ₹500 vouchers, EaseMyTrip holiday packages ₹3,000, Elivaas ₹10,000, a 3-month EazyDiner Prime membership valued at ₹1,095, and up to 35% off Avis car rentals. The bank state the total two ways, over ₹15,000 in one place and over ₹5,000 in another, so judge each voucher by whether you would really use it.
Milestones and perks
Crossing ₹3 lakh in a year earns 3,000 bonus points, and every further ₹1 lakh adds 1,500, up to 15,000 points a year. The ceiling arrive at ₹11 lakh: 3,000 at ₹3 lakh plus 8 more steps of 1,500, one for each lakh from ₹4 lakh to ₹11 lakh.
Golf gives 1 round or lesson for each ₹50,000 of retail spend in the previous calendar month, up to 2 a month. BookMyShow and INOX give 25% off up to ₹150 twice a month, BookMyShow needing ₹25,000 of spend in the previous quarter. There is a 24/7 concierge, and the RuPay card adds ₹2 lakh of personal accident cover.
Three spenders
| Spender | Monthly split | Points a month | Points in 12 months | Milestone points | Year's total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light, ₹20,000 | Shopping ₹14,000, grocery ₹4,000, utilities ₹2,000 | 280 + 80 + 20 = 380 | 4,560 | 0 (₹2,40,000 a year) | 4,560 |
| Typical, ₹55,000 | Shopping ₹33,000, grocery ₹10,000, utilities ₹6,000, abroad ₹6,000 | 660 + 200 + 60 + 240 = 1,160 | 13,920 | 7,500 (₹6,60,000 a year) | 21,420 |
| Heavy, ₹1,00,000 | Shopping ₹55,000, grocery ₹20,000, utilities ₹15,000, abroad ₹10,000 | 1,100 + 400 + 150 + 400 = 2,050 | 24,600 | 15,000, the cap (₹12,00,000 a year) | 39,600 |
Light. 4,560 points, no milestone and a ₹2,360 fee, so a point would need to be worth about ₹0.52 (₹2,360 divided by 4,560) just to break even. Quarterly spend of ₹60,000 (₹20,000 times 3) misses the ₹75,000 condition, so airport lounges are out; the 8 railway lounge visits a year carry no spend condition that ICICI states.
Typical. ₹6,60,000 a year passes ₹3 lakh, so the year's fee is reversed and 7,500 milestone points arrive (3,000 at ₹3 lakh, then 1,500 each at ₹4, ₹5 and ₹6 lakh). With 13,920 regular points that make 21,420 at no fee. ₹1,65,000 a quarter (₹55,000 times 3) keeps the airport lounges open. The ₹6,000 spent abroad is the weak spot: 240 points against ₹210 of mark-up (3.5% of ₹6,000) and ₹37.80 of GST (18% of ₹210), ₹247.80, so each of those points must be worth more than ₹1 to break even.
Heavy. ₹12 lakh a year goes past the ₹11 lakh at which the 15,000-point ceiling arrives, so the last lakh adds no milestone. 24,600 regular points plus 15,000 is 39,600, the fee is reversed, and ₹1,00,000 a month should earn the maximum of 2 golf rounds a month, if ICICI counts all of it as retail spend. The grocery and utility ceilings of ₹40,000 and ₹80,000 a cycle are not touched at this level.

Income bar and the application
ICICI asks salaried applicants for ₹75,000 a month and self-employed ones for ₹9,00,000 a year. Divide the second figure by 12 and both comes to ₹75,000 a month. The FAQ puts the age range at 21 to 65 years, applicants must be Indian citizens, and the document list is identity, address and income proof.
Applying, and picking the pair
Apply on ICICI's website, which take you through the KYC and income uploads, or check iMobile under Pre Approved Loans/Offers for a ready offer. Since Rubyx comes as Mastercard with Amex or as Visa with RuPay, decide which pair suit you before you start. Only the Visa and RuPay pair includes the RuPay card, which is the one that works on UPI and carries the ₹2 lakh personal accident cover.
How ICICI weighs an application
Under the RBI's 2025 card Directions, the bank must check your independent financial means and count all limits you hold with other lenders before fixing yours. ICICI's listing page adds that credit score and repayment history may be considered. CRIF scores runs from 300 to 900 and above 700 is generally considered good; someone with no credit file gets an NH, or no history, report instead of a score.
KYC means PAN or Form 60 with an officially valid document, and a Video KYC call is accepted the same as an in-person check.
Hitting the income figure doesn't make approval automatic, the bank decides. A rejection must come with the specific reasons in writing, and the Key Fact Statement you get with the application lists the interest rate and every charge. ICICI's toll-free helpline is 1800 1080 and its fraud helpline 1800 2662; our ICICI customer care page has the other contacts.

Who Rubyx suits, and who should look elsewhere
Rubyx works best for someone earning ₹75,000 or more a month who puts ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 a month on the card, travels within India by air or rail a few times a year and plays the odd round of golf. At that level the fee is reversed, milestones add up to 15,000 points and the airport and railway lounges get used.
It is a hard sell to points maximisers. With no published point value and ₹99 + GST on every redemption, nobody can say for sure what 2 points per ₹100 is worth, and the 4 points abroad is eaten up by a 3.5% mark-up plus GST.
Light users should think twice too. Below ₹25,000 a month the fee stays, airport lounges stays locked unless you reach ₹75,000 a quarter, and the welcome vouchers is the main gain. If that sounds like you, ICICI's ₹500 Coral card do a similar job for a smaller fee.
And for more lounge visits and a bigger welcome kit, Sapphiro is the step up, at more than twice the joining fee (₹6,500 against ₹3,000). That comparison is below, and our best reward points cards list covers the wider field.
Pros
- ₹2,000 + GST fee reversed for the year on ₹3 lakh of spends, about ₹25,000 a month
- 4 points per ₹100 on international spends, double the domestic rate
- Milestone points of up to 15,000 a year
- 8 railway lounge visits a year on top of airport lounges
- ₹1 crore air accident cover and ₹84,000 lost baggage cover
- RuPay variant works on UPI and adds ₹2 lakh personal accident cover
Cons
- No published rupee value for a point, and ₹99 + GST per redemption
- Airport lounges need ₹75,000 of spend in the previous quarter
- No international lounge access
- 3.5% forex mark-up and 3.5% currency conversion fee
- No points on rent, fuel, wallet loads or EMI
- Joining fee of ₹3,540 once GST is added
Rubyx against three mid-range rewards cards
The comparison that matter most is with ICICI's own Sapphiro, then with HDFC Bank's Regalia Gold and SBI Card PRIME, which sit at a similar fee.
ICICI Sapphiro costs ₹6,500 + GST to join and ₹3,500 + GST a year, waived on ₹6 lakh. The earn are the same, 2 points per ₹100 in India and 4 abroad, with the same ceilings. But Sapphiro gives 4 domestic lounge visits a quarter on ₹75,000 of quarterly spend instead of 2, adds 2 international visits a year through Priority Pass, offers golf up to 4 rounds a month and milestones up to 20,000 points, and carries ₹3 crore of air accident cover against Rubyx's ₹1 crore.
HDFC Regalia Gold charges ₹2,500 plus taxes, waived on ₹4 lakh of retail spends. Since 15 May 2026 it earns 5 points per ₹200, and HDFC values a point at ₹0.65 on its gold catalogue and ₹0.5 on flights and hotels, so about 1.6% at best (5 times ₹0.65 is ₹3.25 on ₹200). It gives 3 domestic lounge visits a quarter on ₹60,000 of spend in the previous quarter and up to 6 Priority Pass visits a year abroad, and its 2% forex mark-up is well below Rubyx's 3.5%. Its income bar is higher, more than ₹1.5 lakh a month for salaried people.
SBI Card PRIME costs ₹2,999 + taxes, waived on ₹3 lakh, the same target as Rubyx. Base earn is 2 points per ₹100 at 4 points to ₹1, so 0.5%, but dining, departmental stores, groceries and movies earn 10 per ₹100, or 2.5%, up to 7,500 points a month. It gives 8 domestic lounge visits a year (2 a quarter, at participating lounges) and 4 Priority Pass visits with no spend condition stated, plus a ₹3,000 welcome voucher. Forex is 3.5%, and its ₹50 lakh air accident cover was discontinued from 15 July 2025.
Who should pick which: Rubyx if you want UPI through RuPay, railway lounges and an easy ₹3 lakh target with ICICI. Sapphiro if you will use more lounges and golf and can reach ₹6 lakh. Regalia Gold for a published point value and cheaper spending abroad, and PRIME for heavy grocery and dining spends. The rest of ICICI's lineup is on our ICICI Bank cards page.
