Best Fuel Credit Cards in India 2026: Matched to Your Pump Brand

The best fuel card is the one that matches your pump: at ₹6,000 of fuel a month, BPCL SBI Card OCTANE returns about ₹6,000 a year at BPCL with its fee reversed, IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA leads at IndianOil with ₹5,580 after its fee, and IDFC FIRST Power+ leads at HPCL with ₹4,800. Monthly caps and new 1% fuel fees decide more than the headline rates.

Which fuel card pays most

It depend first on the pump you use. At ₹6,000 of fuel a month, BPCL SBI Card OCTANE gives the most back in our data for BPCL pumps, about ₹6,000 a year with its fee reversed, the IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA card leads at IndianOil pumps with ₹5,580 after its fee, and IDFC FIRST Power+ leads at HPCL with ₹4,800.

How we judged them

Every fuel co-brand in our data that was taking applications on 5 November 2026 went through the same test. A fuel card is only as good as its monthly cap, so the cap counted as much as the rate.

  • Fuel return: points or cashback at the partner pumps, valued at the bank's own rupee figure for the best fuel redemption.
  • Cap: the monthly or per-cycle limit, and the fuel spend where it bites.
  • Surcharge waiver: pumps add a surcharge, typically 1%, to card payments; a waiver refunds it up to a cap, but not the GST on it.
  • Fee and waiver: what a ₹2.4 lakh a year spender actually pay.
  • New fuel fees: the 1% charges several banks now add above a monthly fuel amount.

Our sources are the banks' card pages, MITCs and notices as read on 5 November 2026. BankCreds takes no money from banks for these picks, the list is ours alone. The IndusInd Jio-bp Mobility+ card is left out of the ranking only because IndusInd does not publish what a Smile is worth in rupees.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fuel co-brands return 3.25% to 7.5% at their partner pumps before caps
  • Most charge ₹449 to ₹500 a year and drop the fee at ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh of yearly spend
  • A 1% surcharge waiver on most picks cancels the pump surcharge, up to each card's cap
  • Low published income floors, from ₹12,000 a month on IndianOil HDFC Bank

Cons

  • The fuel rate works only at one oil company's pumps, and some only at listed outlets
  • Caps stop the fuel reward between ₹3,000 and about ₹13,333 of monthly fuel
  • GST on the surcharge is not refunded on cards such as IndianOil Axis Bank, and IDFC FIRST Power+ has no waiver at all
  • Several banks now charge 1% on fuel above a threshold, SBI Card from 1 December 2026

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best fuel credit card in India in 2026?
It depends on your pump. At ₹6,000 of fuel a month, BPCL SBI Card OCTANE returns about ₹6,000 a year at BPCL with its fee reversed, IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA nets ₹5,580 at IndianOil after its ₹1,500 fee, and IDFC FIRST Power+ nets ₹4,800 at HPCL. A card from another oil company earns little on fuel.
What is a fuel surcharge waiver?
Petrol pumps add a surcharge, typically 1%, when you pay by card. A waiver refunds that surcharge within a range per transaction and up to a monthly cap, for example up to ₹100 a cycle on BPCL SBI Card OCTANE. Banks such as Axis say the GST charged on the surcharge is not refunded.
Do fuel credit cards give rewards on UPI payments at the pump?
Often not. On both BPCL SBI cards, fuel paid by UPI with the RuPay card earns no points and gets no surcharge waiver. IndianOil Kotak's waiver also excludes UPI, and its UPI spends earn only 0.5%. To get the fuel rate, swipe or tap the card at the pump.
Which banks charge a 1% fee on fuel spends?
SBI Card charges 1% on fuel above ₹50,000 a billing cycle from 1 December 2026. ICICI charges 1% on fuel transactions above ₹10,000, HDFC on a single fuel transaction above ₹15,000, IDFC FIRST above ₹30,000 a cycle and Axis at ₹50,000 a cycle. IndianOil Kotak charges no fuel fee.
Which fuel card has the lowest income requirement?
Among our picks, IndianOil HDFC Bank publishes the lowest floor: gross monthly income above ₹12,000 for salaried applicants, aged 21 to 60. ICICI HPCL Super Saver asks ₹20,000 a month and IDFC FIRST Power+ ₹3 lakh a year. SBI Card publishes no minimum income. Approval remains the bank's decision.
Why does the IndianOil HDFC Bank card earn less after six months?
Its fuel rate of 5% as Fuel Points is capped at 250 points a month for the first 6 months and 150 points a month after that. At 5%, 150 points cover only ₹3,000 of fuel, so heavier drivers earn nothing extra above that. Each point is worth ₹0.96 only when redeemed as free fuel.
