What the HPCL ENERGIE BOBCARD is
HPCL ENERGIE is a fuel co-brand card from BOBCARD Limited, the card subsidiary of Bank of Baroda, made with Hindustan Petroleum. It is open for applications. BOBCARD's page don't name the card network, but its UPI rules for the card only fits a RuPay card, since only RuPay credit cards run on UPI.
The card pays where HPCL does business. Fuel at HPCL outlets on HPCL's merchant list, LPG purchases and fuel paid through the HP Pay app earn 24 reward points per ₹150, and at ₹0.25 a point that is ₹6 per ₹150, or 4%. Utilities and department stores get 10 points per ₹150, about 1.67%, though BOBCARD's page rounds this to "up to 2%". Everything else eligible get 2 points per ₹150.
Three numbers to remember
- 1,000 points. Each accelerated category stops at 1,000 points per statement, worth 1,000 times ₹0.25, or ₹250.
- ₹50,000. Spend this in an anniversary year, not counting UPI, and the ₹499 renewal fee is waived.
- ₹20,000. Spend this in a calendar quarter and you get one domestic lounge visit in the next.
Changes from 2024 to 2026
From 1 January 2025 the quarterly lounge visit needs ₹20,000 of spends in the preceding quarter. From 1 April 2026 BOBCARD added 1% fees on education paid through third-party apps, toll and bus spends of ₹5,000 or more and large railway bookings. From 15 July 2026 accelerated points and the surcharge waiver work only at HPCL outlets on the list HPCL shares, so fuel at a pump outside that list earn no accelerated points and no waiver.
RBI's September 2026 card statistics show 34,91,782 credit cards outstanding under "Bank of Baroda"; the RBI table has no separate row for BOBCARD.
HPCL ENERGIE fees and charges
BOBCARD's Key Fact Statement and MITC list a ₹499 joining fee and a ₹499 annual fee. GST of 18% applies on all fees, so each is ₹499 plus ₹89.82 (18% of ₹499), or ₹588.82. Up to 3 add-on cards are free.
An easy renewal waiver
The ₹499 renewal fee is waived in every anniversary year you spend ₹50,000, if the account is not delinquent. ₹50,000 divided by 12 is about ₹4,167 a month, which many fuel-card user cross with fuel alone. One condition: UPI spends do not counts towards it, so pay by card at the pump or online.
Interest, late fees and cash
Interest is 3.75% a month, which BOBCARD states as 45% a year. Late fees go by the statement balance: nil below ₹100, ₹100 up to ₹500, ₹400 up to ₹1,000, ₹750 up to ₹10,000, ₹950 up to ₹25,000, ₹1,100 up to ₹50,000 and ₹1,300 above. So a ₹12,000 bill paid late cost ₹950 plus GST. Cash withdrawals are charged 2.5% or ₹500, whichever is higher, and going over the limit costs 2.5% or ₹600, whichever higher.
- Forex: 3.5% of the transaction amount.
- 1% processing fees: rent; wallet loads; utility bills of ₹50,000 or more (maximum ₹3,000 a transaction); education through third-party apps (maximum ₹5,000); toll and bus spends of ₹5,000 or more; railway bookings of ₹30,000 or more (maximum ₹5,000). The 1% fuel fee on ₹10,000-plus fills that other BOBCARDs carry does not apply to HPCL ENERGIE.
- Smaller charges: ₹250 per cash payment, ₹100 per cheque payment, 2% (minimum ₹500) on a bounce, ₹100 for a replacement card and ₹25 for a duplicate bill. Redeeming points is free.

How the reward points work
| Spend | Points per ₹150 | Value at ₹0.25 a point | Cap per statement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel at listed HPCL outlets, LPG, HP Pay app fuel | 24 | 4% | 1,000 points |
| Utilities (MCC 4812, 4899) and department stores (MCC 5311) | 10 | About 1.67% | 1,000 points |
| Other eligible spends | 2 | About 0.33% | None stated |
The fuel cap is reached at ₹6,250 of fuel, because 1,000 divided by 24, times ₹150, is ₹6,250. The utility cap of 1,000 points take ₹15,000 of spends to reach (100 lots of ₹150, times 10). Transactions under ₹150 earns nothing.
No points come on rent, wallets, education, government, insurance, supermarkets (MCC 5411 and 5499), fast food (MCC 5814), transport and tolls and the other codes in BOBCARD's Annexure 1, or on HP Pay wallet loads and direct debit. UPI spends earn only the core 2 points, at most 500 points a statement on RuPay BOBCARDs, and count for neither the joining bonus nor the waiver. Points expire 2 years after they are earned, also they lapse if the card goes unused for 365 days.
Welcome: 500 bonus points, worth 500 times ₹0.25 or ₹125, on ₹5,000 of spends within 60 days. HPCL separately gives 1.5% back as HP points on fuel bought through the HP Pay app; that is HPCL's benefit, not BOBCARD's. The surcharge waiver refunds 1% on HPCL fills of ₹400 to ₹5,000, up to ₹100 a statement, and the page's "up to 5% savings" is that 1% plus the 4% points. Since the waiver only cancels a surcharge, the examples count points only.
Light: ₹15,000 a month
₹4,500 of HPCL fuel in two fills, ₹1,500 of utility bills, ₹6,000 of other shopping and ₹3,000 at a supermarket. Fuel gives 30 lots of ₹150 times 24, so 720 points; bills 10 times 10, so 100; shopping 40 times 2, so 80; the supermarket nothing. That is 900 points, ₹225 a month, ₹2,700 a year. Even counting only the ₹12,000 that earns, ₹12,000 times 12 is ₹1,44,000, far above ₹50,000, so renewal is waived. Year one pays ₹588.82 but adds the ₹125 welcome bonus, netting ₹2,236.18; later years keep ₹2,700.
Typical: ₹30,000 a month
₹6,000 of HPCL fuel, ₹3,000 of utilities, ₹3,000 at a department store, ₹12,000 of other spends and ₹6,000 at supermarkets. Fuel gives 40 times 24, so 960 points, just under the cap; utilities and the department store together 40 times 10, so 400; other spends 80 times 2, so 160. That is 1,520 points, ₹380 a month, ₹4,560 a year, all of it kept from year two once the fee is waived. The quarter's spends, ₹30,000 times 3 or ₹90,000, easily clears the ₹20,000 lounge rule.
Heavy: ₹50,000 a month
₹9,500 of HPCL fuel, ₹15,000 of utilities and department store spends, ₹19,500 of other spends and ₹6,000 paid by UPI. Fuel would earn well over 1,000 points, but the cap stops it there, so fuel above ₹6,250 gets no accelerated points; BOBCARD doesn't say whether it earns base points, so we count none. Utilities and department stores hit their cap exactly. Other spends give 130 times 2, so 260, and UPI 40 times 2, so 80. That is 2,340 points, ₹585 a month, ₹7,020 a year. Above about ₹6,250 of fuel a month, a second fuel card do better.

Eligibility and how to apply
BOBCARD wants applicants aged 21 to 60 and resident in India, with add-on holders above 18. The income floor depends on whether you already bank with Bank of Baroda:
- Salaried: ₹3.6 lakh net a year, or ₹3 lakh for Bank of Baroda customers.
- Self-employed: ₹4.8 lakh net a year, or ₹3.6 lakh for Bank of Baroda customers.
The lowest figure, ₹3 lakh a year, is ₹25,000 a month. Documents are a recent passport-size photo, PAN, and an permanent address proof such as Aadhaar (both sides), voter ID, passport, driving licence, NREGA job card or National Population Register letter. Salaried applicants show salary credits in 2 months of bank statements, with salary slips accepted only alongside it; self-employed applicants give 3 months of business bank statements as a PDF.
Applying
The process is online: fill the form, e-sign with Aadhaar, then finish identity checks by Video KYC, which the RBI's KYC Directions treat at par with face-to-face KYC. Bank of Baroda also offer a separate instant lifetime-free RuPay card in its bob World app, but that is a different product.
Approval is BOBCARD's call. It is an NBFC issuer and follows the RBI's 2025 card Directions for NBFCs, which run parallel to the bank rules; under those rules the issuer checks your own means and existing limits and gives written reasons for a refusal. On Experian's 300 to 900 scale, above 750 is generally good. Help lines are on our Bank of Baroda customer care page.

Who should take the HPCL ENERGIE card
It fits anyone who fills at HPCL for ₹4,000 to ₹6,250 a month and also pays utility and department store bills on the card. That person gets 4% on fuel and about 1.67% on those bills, for a fee that disappears after ₹50,000 a year. The one lounge visit a quarter is very much handy for small extra, and most cards at ₹499 doesn't have it.
It's weak elsewhere. Supermarket groceries and fast food earn zero, other spends make about 0.33%, and there is no insurance. Fuel above ₹6,250 a statement earn no accelerated points, only HPCL outlets on HPCL's list qualify, so check your regular pump first, and foreign spends cost 3.5%.
- Take it if HPCL is your usual pump and you want a cheap card with an easy waiver.
- Skip it if you drive a lot, buy most groceries at supermarkets, or want one card for everything.
A simple test: ₹4,000 of HPCL fuel a month earns 4% of ₹4,000, or ₹160, which is ₹1,920 a year, more than three times the ₹588.82 fee even before the waiver. Other choices are in our best fuel credit cards list and the guide to fuel cards and surcharge waivers.
Pros
- 24 points per ₹150 at listed HPCL outlets, 4% at ₹0.25 a point
- Renewal fee waived on just ₹50,000 of yearly spends
- 10 points per ₹150 on utilities and department stores, about 1.67%
- One domestic lounge visit a quarter after ₹20,000 of quarterly spends
- Free redemption and up to 3 free add-on cards
Cons
- Fuel points cap at 1,000 a statement, reached at ₹6,250 of fuel
- Since 15 July 2026 only HPCL outlets on HPCL's merchant list qualify
- Supermarkets, fast food, rent and insurance earn nothing
- UPI spends earn only 2 points per ₹150 and do not count for the waiver
- No insurance cover and a 3.5% forex fee
HPCL ENERGIE against other fuel cards
The ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver costs ₹500 plus GST, waived from the second year on ₹1,50,000 of spends. It gives 4% cashback at HPCL pumps capped at ₹200 a month, plus the 1% surcharge waiver, and 20 points per ₹100 on utilities and department stores up to 400 points a statement. Its lounge visit needs ₹75,000 of spends in the previous quarter, far more higher than BOBCARD's ₹20,000.
IDFC FIRST's FIRST Power+ is ₹499 plus GST, waived on ₹1,50,000. It earns 30 points per ₹150 at HPCL, 5% at ₹0.25 a point, on up to ₹12,000 of fuel a statement (2,400 points, ₹600), and 5% on grocery and utility up to ₹2,000. It has zero forex markup but no fuel surcharge waiver, and interest of 3.85% a month.
The IndianOil Axis Bank card is the IndianOil version of the idea: ₹500 plus GST and 20 points per ₹100 at IndianOil, 4% at ₹0.20 a point, on up to ₹5,000 of fuel a month, but its fee waiver needs ₹3,50,000.
Which to pick
For heavy HPCL use, wins FIRST Power+: its ₹600 fuel cap is more than double ENERGIE's ₹250. For moderate fuel plus bills and the easiest waiver, ENERGIE is cheaper to keep. ICICI suits people with HPCL fuel under ₹5,000 a month, since ₹200 divided by 4% is ₹5,000. Browse all BOBCARD cards or the credit cards section.
