BOBCARD, the card arm of Bank of Baroda
If you walk into a Bank of Baroda branch for a credit card, the card you get is issue by BOBCARD Limited, the bank's subsidiary. Bank of Baroda's own card page says as much. Because BOBCARD is a non-banking finance company, it comes under RBI's 2025 Directions for NBFC card issuers, dated 28 November 2025, which run in parallel to the rules for banks.
RBI's card count need a careful reading. Its bank-wise table for September 2026 (provisional) has no separate row for BOBCARD. Under its own label, BANK OF BARODA, it shows 34,91,782 credit cards outstanding, up from 30,72,859 in September 2025. That is 4,18,923 more (34,91,782 minus 30,72,859), a rise of about 13.6% (4,18,923 divided by 30,72,859), faster than the 10.4% growth across all banks. RBI does not say whether that row is the same as BOBCARD's own card base, so we quote it as the Bank of Baroda figure only.
That row is eighth largest in the table, just below RBL Bank at 47,16,637, whose cards we cover in our RBL Bank hub. SBI Card sits in a similar position, a card company owned by a bank whose count RBI prints under the parent's name, and our SBI Card hub explains that one. New to cards? Start with the credit cards guide.
The range
BOBCARD's list has 28 personal cards, and a good share of it are made for particular groups: defence cards such as Yoddha, Vikram, Varunah, Rakshamah and The Sentinel, professional cards for ICAI, ICSI and CMA members, cards issued with partner banks (the Pragati cards for regional rural banks, Nainital Bank Renaissance and the Ujjivan SFB pair) and a PM SVANidhi card. Business cards sits in a separate list.
We researched six of the everyday cards. By the fee BOBCARD lists, plus GST:
- Prime: no joining or annual fee as per its card page, issued against a fixed deposit.
- Cashback: ₹49 a month or ₹499 a year, your choice.
- HPCL Energie: ₹499, a fuel card for HPCL outlets.
- Easy: ₹500, the entry points card.
- Premier: ₹1,000, for travel and dining.
- Eterna: ₹2,499, the premium rewards card.
Select, Tiara and the IRCTC BOBCARD is also active, but we haven't researched them in full. Co-brands with Etihad Guest, Scapia, Snapdeal and Uni GoldX, plus BOBCARD One, appear on the list too.
The ₹0 joining offer
From 1 September 2026, BOBCARD's card pages advertises a ₹0 joining and first-year fee as a limited-period offer. The MITC and the Key Fact Statement still list the normal joining fees, so treat the offer as an offer, not as the card's price. Even without it, the first-year fee on Easy, Premier and Eterna goes away if you spend ₹6,000, ₹10,000 or ₹25,000 within 60 days.
Which BOBCARD suits which spend
Before matching a card to your spending, know what BOBCARD don't reward. On Easy, Premier, Eterna and Prime, supermarkets and grocery stores, fast food outlets, rent, wallets, education, government, insurance, hospitals and transport such as railways, buses and tolls earn no points, fuel earns nothing on any BOBCARD except HPCL Energie, and transactions under ₹100 earn nothing either.
| Card | Annual fee | Faster category | Cap | Point value as cashback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prime | ₹0 (card page) | Only SmartDeal flight and hotel bonuses | Not stated | ₹0.20 |
| Easy | ₹500 | 5 points per ₹100 at departmental stores and movies | 1,000 points a statement | ₹0.20 |
| Cashback | ₹499 a year or ₹49 a month | 5% on domestic online spends | ₹1,500 extra cashback a statement | Paid as cash |
| HPCL Energie | ₹499 | 24 points per ₹150 at listed HPCL outlets | 1,000 points a statement | ₹0.25 |
| Premier | ₹1,000 | 10 points per ₹100 on travel, international and dining | 2,000 points a statement | ₹0.25 |
| Eterna | ₹2,499 | 15 points per ₹100 on online, international, dining and travel | 5,000 points a statement | ₹0.25 |
Online shopping: BOBCARD Cashback
The Cashback card is the simplest one. It pays 1% on most spends and 5% on domestic online spends (1% base plus 4% extra), with the cashback credited straight to your statement. The extra 4% is capped at ₹1,500 per statement and needs at least 4 transactions in the cycle, so the cap fill at ₹37,500 of online spend (₹1,500 divided by 4%), when total cashback on that spend is ₹1,875 (5% of ₹37,500).
There's no spend waiver on the fee. You pick ₹49 a month, which is ₹588 a year (₹49 multiplied by 12), or ₹499 once a year, and you can switch plans only once in the card's life, so the yearly plan save ₹89 (₹588 minus ₹499) if you plan to keep the card. It's issued on Mastercard, and BOBCARD doesn't say whether a RuPay version exists.
Premium rewards: Eterna
Eterna gives 15 points per ₹100 on online, international, dining and travel spends and 3 per ₹100 on the rest. Redeemed as cashback at ₹0.25 a point, that come to 3.75% and 0.75%. The faster points stop at 5,000 a statement, reached at about ₹33,333 of those spends (5,000 divided by 15 per ₹100) and worth ₹1,250 (5,000 multiplied by ₹0.25). Dining here means restaurants; fast food outlets earn nothing. Eterna points never expire, the only points card of these six where that's true.
The ₹2,499 fee is waived on ₹2,50,000 of spend in the anniversary year, about ₹20,833 a month (₹2,50,000 divided by 12). There's a welcome of 10,000 points on ₹50,000 of spend within 60 days, worth ₹2,500 (10,000 multiplied by ₹0.25), and 20,000 more on ₹5 lakh in a year. Domestic lounge access are unlimited, but from 1 October 2026 only after ₹75,000 of spend in the previous quarter, up from ₹40,000, with a ₹2 charge per visit. Forex markup is 2%, against 3.5% on most BOBCARDs.
Travel and dining on a smaller fee: Premier
Premier costs ₹1,000 and gives 10 points per ₹100 on travel, international and dining spends and 2 per ₹100 elsewhere, which is 2.5% and 0.5% at ₹0.25 a point. The faster cap is 2,000 points a statement, filled at ₹20,000 of those spends (2,000 divided by 10 per ₹100) and worth ₹500. Its forex markup stays at 3.5%, so the 2.5% on international spends don't even cover the markup. One domestic lounge visit a quarter comes after ₹20,000 of spend in the quarter before, and the fee is waived on ₹1,20,000 a year, which is ₹10,000 a month (₹1,20,000 divided by 12).
Fuel: HPCL Energie
HPCL Energie earns 24 points per ₹150 on fuel at HPCL outlets on HPCL's merchant list, on LPG and in the HP Pay app, which is 4% at ₹0.25 a point (24 points at ₹0.25 is ₹6 on ₹150). Points are capped at 1,000 a statement, used up at ₹6,250 of fuel (1,000 divided by 24, multiplied by ₹150) and worth ₹250. A 1% surcharge waiver on fills of ₹400 to ₹5,000 adds up to ₹100 a statement. Since 15 July 2026 both the extra points and the waiver works only at the outlets on that list, so check your pump before counting on it.
Utilities and departmental stores earn 10 points per ₹150, also capped at 1,000. The ₹499 joining fee has no waiver; the renewal is waived on ₹50,000 a year, UPI spends not counted. One lounge visit per quarter come with ₹20,000 of spend in the previous quarter. Unlike the other BOBCARDs, it doesn't carry the 1% fee on fuel payments of ₹10,000 or more.
Entry level: Easy
Easy is the starter at ₹500 a year, waived on just ₹35,000 of spend in the anniversary year, roughly ₹2,917 a month (₹35,000 divided by 12). It gives 5 points per ₹100 at departmental stores and on movies, up to 1,000 a statement, and 1 per ₹100 elsewhere, worth ₹0.20 each as cashback, so 1% and 0.2%. Note that departmental stores means MCC 5311 only, and supermarkets and grocery stores are excluded altogether.
No income proof: Prime
Prime is issued against a fixed deposit of ₹30,000 or more marked with a lien, needs no income proof and takes applicants aged 18 to 85. Its card page shows zero joining and annual fees, though Prime isn't in the KFS fee tables. The paperwork points to a Bank of Baroda deposit, but BOBCARD doesn't say so outright, and it doesn't publish what share of the FD becomes your limit either. BOBCARD say the applicants it won't take are those delinquent on their credit record, yet the decision on each application is still its own.
Prime earns 2 points per ₹100, worth ₹0.20 each, which is 0.4%, and it has no faster categories. Bank of Baroda also offer an instant lifetime-free RuPay BOBCARD through its bob World and bob iPay apps.
UPI
RuPay BOBCARDs work on UPI, but UPI spends earns at most 500 points per statement cycle and never the accelerated rates. HPCL Energie and Prime look like RuPay cards going by the UPI rules on their pages, though BOBCARD doesn't name the network for either. BOBCARD fees and charges
The figures here come from BOBCARD's Key Fact Statement dated 17 July 2026 and its MITC. GST at 18% is added on top of every fee, interest and charge.
Interest and cash
Every BOBCARD we researched charge 3.75% a month, 45% a year; the KFS lists only Micro Enterprise at 1.5% a month and Uni GoldX at 3.99% as different. Eterna was cheaper until 15 July 2026, at 3.25% a month (39% a year). BOBCARD's worked example for its One card shows how it adds up: ₹1,000 left unpaid for 38 days at 3.75% a month costs ₹46.85 (38 days multiplied by ₹1,000, multiplied by 45%, divided by 365). Scale that up and ₹25,000 for 30 days comes to about ₹925 (₹25,000 multiplied by 45%, multiplied by 30, divided by 365), before GST.
Interest-free days run 20 to 50, and only when there's no balance carried from before. Cash withdrawals cost 2.5% or ₹500, whichever is higher, with interest from the day you take it out; on ₹15,000 the 2.5% is ₹375, so you pays ₹500. Going over your limit is 2.5% of the excess or ₹600, whichever higher.
Late payment
| Statement balance | Late fee |
|---|---|
| Below ₹100 | Nil |
| ₹100 to ₹500 | ₹100 |
| ₹501 to ₹1,000 | ₹400 |
| ₹1,001 to ₹10,000 | ₹750 |
| ₹10,001 to ₹25,000 | ₹950 |
| ₹25,001 to ₹50,000 | ₹1,100 |
| Above ₹50,000 | ₹1,300 |
The wide ₹1,001 to ₹10,000 band are the one to watch. A ₹1,200 bill paid late costs the same ₹750 as a ₹9,500 one, which on the small bill is 62.5% of the amount (₹750 divided by ₹1,200).
Fees on particular payments
- Rent (MCC 6513): 1% of every rent payment, so ₹18,000 of rent adds ₹180.
- Wallet loading: 1% of the amount loaded.
- Utilities: 1% on a single utility payment of ₹50,000 or more, capped at ₹3,000 a transaction.
- Fuel: 1% on a fuel payment of ₹10,000 or more, except on HPCL Energie.
- Education through third-party apps (from 1 April 2026): 1%, up to ₹5,000 a transaction.
- Tolls and buses (from 1 April 2026): a flat 1% on transactions of ₹5,000 or more.
- Railway bookings (from 1 April 2026): 1% on bookings of ₹30,000 or more, up to ₹5,000, though not on the IRCTC BOBCARD.
- Forex markup: 3.5% on most cards, 2% on Eterna, Tiara, Varunah Premium and the ICAI, ICSI and CMA cards, 1% on Etihad Guest, and 0% on Uni GoldX, Scapia and Etihad Guest Premium.
- Paying the bill: ₹250 for each cash payment and ₹100 for each cheque, while a bounced cheque or auto-debit costs 2% of the amount, minimum ₹500.
- Small items: card replacement ₹100 and a duplicate bill ₹25. Redeeming points costs nothing, and add-on cards has no joining or annual fee.
Minimum due
Since 1 October 2025 the minimum amount due is all fees, charges, interest, GST and EMI in full, plus 2% of retail spends and cash advances, or ₹200 if that's higher. On a ₹20,000 bill of plain purchases that is ₹400 (2% of ₹20,000), and paying only that leave the rest of the balance to collect interest at 3.75% a month.
What BOBCARD changed in 2025 and 2026
The last two years brought more takeaways than gifts for BOBCARD holders, mostly on Eterna. Here is the order they came in.
- 1 January 2025: HPCL Energie's quarterly lounge visit started needing ₹20,000 of spend in the previous calendar quarter.
- 1 October 2025: the minimum amount due formula was revised to the one in the fees tab.
- 1 April 2026: telecom bills (MCC 4814) started earning core points on all BOBCARD variants, a small change in cardholders' favour. Same date, 1% fees arrived on third-party education payments, tolls and buses, and large railway bookings.
- 15 July 2026: Eterna's interest rose from 3.25% to 3.75% a month, which is 39% to 45% a year. On a ₹30,000 balance carried for 30 days that adds about ₹148 (₹30,000 multiplied by 6 percentage points, multiplied by 30, divided by 365). The air and non-air accidental death cover was also withdrawn on Eterna and Premier for cards issued after this date, and it ended on 25 August 2026 for older cards. HPCL Energie's extra points and surcharge waiver became limited to HPCL outlets on HPCL's merchant list.
- 1 September 2026: card pages began showing the limited-period ₹0 joining and first-year fee.
- 1 October 2026: Eterna's unlimited domestic lounge access now needs ₹75,000 of spend in the preceding quarter, up from ₹40,000. That is ₹25,000 a month on average (₹75,000 divided by 3), against about ₹13,333 before (₹40,000 divided by 3).
For an Eterna holder who used the lounge a lot, the October rule is the big one. If your spending sit around ₹15,000 a month, you qualified under the old ₹40,000 test (₹15,000 multiplied by 3 is ₹45,000) and you won't under the new one. The insurance withdrawal matter if you kept Eterna or Premier partly for that cover, because it is gone now. The KFS we read is dated 17 July 2026 and the features T&C 2 November 2026, so these rules are current as of this page.
Applying for a BOBCARD
Who can apply?
BOBCARD wants Indian residents aged 21 to 60 for its regular cards, with the lower and upper age at its discretion, and 18 to 85 for the FD-backed Prime. Income floors is published card by card, as net annual income:
| Card | Salaried | Self-employed |
|---|---|---|
| Cashback | ₹3 lakh | ₹3.6 lakh |
| HPCL Energie | ₹3.6 lakh, or ₹3 lakh for Bank of Baroda customers | ₹4.8 lakh, or ₹3.6 lakh for Bank of Baroda customers |
| Premier | Above ₹7.2 lakh | Above ₹7.2 lakh |
| Eterna | Above ₹12 lakh | Above ₹12 lakh |
| Easy | Not published | Not published |
| Prime | No income proof; FD of ₹30,000 or more | No income proof; FD of ₹30,000 or more |
In monthly terms the Eterna floor come to ₹1 lakh (₹12 lakh divided by 12) and Premier's to ₹60,000 (₹7.2 lakh divided by 12). Meeting it doesn't settle anything by itself. RBI requires the issuer to judge your own means to repay and to count the limits you hold elsewhere, and a rejection must come with the specific reasons in writing.
What documents?
A recent passport-size photo, your PAN card, and permanent address proof, which can be Aadhaar (both sides), Voter ID, passport, driving licence, NREGA job card or a National Population Register letter. For income, salaried applicants give a bank statement showing salary credits for the last 2 months (salary slips only along with that statement), and self-employed applicants a PDF bank statement with 3 months of business transactions. Prime needs the bank's declaration of the FD lien instead of income proof.
How do I apply?
It's digital end to end: fill the online application, e-sign it with Aadhaar, then complete Video KYC. Bank of Baroda also offers the lifetime-free RuPay BOBCARD inside its bob World and bob iPay apps. Video KYC is not BOBCARD's own fancy, RBI's KYC rules treat it on par with a face-to-face check, which is why card apps lean on it.
What can you insist on?
- No card without your clear consent, given in writing or digitally. An unsolicited card that gets billed must be reversed, with a penalty of twice the charges.
- A one-page Key Fact Statement with your application, which BOBCARD publish as its KFS.
- Closure within 7 working days of asking, once dues are paid, or ₹500 paid to you for each calendar day of delay.
- A billing date that suits you. BOBCARD issues cards on cycles starting the 1st, 7th, 13th, 16th, 18th or 25th and offers a one-time change, while RBI's rules say you must be allowed to change it at least once.
- No reporting to credit bureaus before you activate the card, and a card left unused for over a year can be closed only after you're told and given 30 days to reply.
BOBCARD customer care
BOBCARD's 24x7 toll-free helplines are 1800 2090 and 1800 1210. Eterna and Tiara holders has their own 24x7 line on 1800 103 1002. Our Bank of Baroda customer care page lists more contacts in one place.
If the helpline doesn't fix a problem, raise a written complaint with BOBCARD and keep the reference number. Should 30 days pass with no reply, or with a reply you're not satisfied, the RBI Ombudsman is where you go next.
