Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank vs SBI Card: Same Name, Different Rules
Both Tata Neu Infinity cards charge ₹1,499 plus GST, reverse it at ₹3 lakh of yearly spends and pay 5% as NeuCoins on Tata brands and 1.5% elsewhere, so what you are really choosing is the issuer. SBI Card's version moves NeuCoins to NeuPass on its own, pays 1.5% on UPI from any app and publishes no income floor, while HDFC Bank's version gives easier lounge vouchers, written insurance cover and NeuCoins on merchant EMI, but asks for ₹1 lakh of gross monthly income and, from 25 November 2026, a claim in the Tata Neu App.
In short
The SBI Card version is simpler to live with and open to more applicants, while the HDFC Bank version gives more around the card, from lounge vouchers at ₹50,000 a quarter to travel insurance, if you meet its income rule and remember to claim.
Best for
- SBI Card version: people who pay by UPI from any app and want NeuCoins credited without a claim
- HDFC Bank version: earners above ₹1 lakh gross a month who fly and want insurance and lounge vouchers
- HDFC Bank version: buyers who convert Croma or other big purchases to merchant EMI
Skip it if
- You rarely shop at Tata brands, since 1.5% elsewhere is ordinary for a ₹1,499 card
- You spend under ₹25,000 a month, which leaves the ₹3 lakh waiver out of reach
- You would forget a 12-month claim window, on the HDFC Bank version
Highlights
- Same fee on both: ₹1,499 plus GST, reversed at ₹3 lakh of yearly spends
- Same headline earn: 5% NeuCoins on Tata brands, 1.5% on other spends, 1 NeuCoin = ₹1
- UPI: 1.5% from any app on SBI Card; 0.5% on HDFC unless you use the Tata Neu UPI ID
- Domestic lounges: HDFC on ₹50,000 in the same quarter, SBI Card on ₹75,000 in the previous quarter
- Income: HDFC asks above ₹1 lakh gross a month; SBI Card publishes no floor

One brand, two banks, two sets of terms
Tata Neu Infinity is the name of two different credit cards. HDFC Bank issue one and SBI Card issues the other, each in partnership with Tata Digital, and on the box they look like twins: same ₹1,499 fee, same ₹3 lakh reversal, same 5% on Tata brands and 1.5% elsewhere, same 1,499 welcome NeuCoins. The differences sit in the fine print, and they decide which one is right for you.
That matters because RBI's co-brand rules make the issuing bank, not Tata, responsible for the card. The bank approves you, sets the fees, runs the statement and has to deliver the advertised NeuCoins on time, and the partner can't see your transactions. So when something goes wrong, you deals with HDFC Bank or SBI Card, whichever card is in your wallet.
Who each version is for
- Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank: salaried people above ₹1 lakh gross a month, or self-employed with an ITR above ₹12 lakh, who travel, want written insurance, buy big items on merchant EMI and don't mind claiming NeuCoins in the Tata Neu App.
- Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card: people who want the coins to just appear, pay a lot by UPI from PhonePe, Google Pay or other app, or can't show HDFC's income, since SBI Card publishes no minimum for any card.
The verdict in two sentences
For most Tata shoppers the SBI Card version is the easier card, because its NeuCoins move automatic and its UPI rate doesn't depend on which app you use. The HDFC Bank version is worth it for higher earners who will use its lounge vouchers and insurance, and who'll claim their coins inside 12 months.
Both cards are active. Each issuer's card has its own page on us: the HDFC Bank Tata Neu Infinity review and the SBI Card Tata Neu Infinity review.
Same fee, different charge schedules
| Charge | HDFC Bank version | SBI Card version |
|---|---|---|
| Joining and annual fee | ₹1,499 plus GST | ₹1,499 plus GST |
| Waiver | Renewal waived on ₹3,00,000 in the year before renewal | Reversed on ₹3 lakh of net retail spends in the 365 days before the fee date |
| Welcome NeuCoins | 1,499 after a first spend within 30 days, claimed in the Tata Neu App | 1,499 within 15 days of the joining fee being paid |
| Add-on cards | Free | Nil |
| Interest | 3.75% per month (45% p.a.) | 3.75% per month (45% p.a.) |
| Late fee on ₹15,000 due | ₹900 | ₹950 |
| Rent | 1%, capped at ₹4,999 a transaction | ₹199 plus taxes a payment |
| Wallet loads | 1% once the month's loads pass ₹10,000 | 1% on any load above ₹1,000 |
| Fuel | 1% on a single fuel bill above ₹15,000 | 1% if a cycle's fuel passes ₹50,000, from 1 Dec 2026 |
| Over-limit, with consent | 2.5%, minimum ₹550 | 2.5%, minimum ₹600 |
| Forex markup | 2% | 1.99% |
The fee and its waiver
With 18% GST each card costs ₹1,768.82 a year (₹1,499 plus ₹269.82). Both waive it at ₹3 lakh, which is ₹25,000 a month (₹3 lakh divided by 12). Both also give 1,499 NeuCoins as welcome benefit, so the first year's fee before GST comes back as coins, but the timing differs. SBI Card credits them within 15 days of your joining fee being realised. HDFC gives them after your first transaction within 30 days of issue, and you claim it in the Tata Neu App.
Charges that differ
Interest is identical, but late fees not. A ₹3,000 outstanding costs ₹600 at HDFC and ₹750 at SBI Card; ₹15,000 cost ₹900 against ₹950. SBI Card also adds ₹100 if the minimum due is missed two cycles in a row.
The newer fees split by habit. Rent of ₹30,000 costs ₹300 at HDFC (1% of ₹30,000) and ₹199 plus taxes at SBI Card, and earns no NeuCoins on either. A ₹5,000 wallet load costs ₹50 at SBI Card, while HDFC charges nothing until your month's loads cross ₹10,000. Both take 1% on utility bills above ₹50,000, HDFC per calendar month and SBI Card per billing cycle. HDFC's MITC charge no fee on NeuCoin redemption requests, and SBI Card states none for NeuCoins, which move to NeuPass by themselves.
Same headline rates, different small print
On both cards 1 NeuCoin is worth ₹1 on Tata Neu and partner brands such as BigBasket, Croma, Tata CLiQ, Westside, Tata 1mg, Titan and Tanishq, IHCL hotels and Air India. Partner Tata brands earn 5% and most other spends 1.5%. Grocery, insurance, utility and telecom and cable each stop at 2,000 NeuCoins a month on both. Fuel, rent, wallet loads, government payments, online gaming and education paid through apps earns nothing on either.
Where HDFC Bank's version is different
- UPI: on the RuPay card, 0.5% back with any UPI app, plus 1% more only when you pay with the Tata Neu UPI ID, total NeuCoins capped at 500 a month.
- Merchant EMI: earns 1.5% on any brand, even a Tata one, where non-EMI Tata spends get 5%.
- Brand limits: the 5% stops at monthly spend limits per brand, from ₹50,000 at Qmin to ₹8,00,000 at IHCL and Air India, and no statement cycle can earn above 50,000 NeuCoins on categories without their own limit.
- NeuPass extra 5%: only for the primary cardholder's own Tata Neu account since 15 January 2025, and not on Tata Pay bill payments, Tanishq, Cult.fit, Air India or Tata Play.
- Claiming: from 25 November 2026 coins are no more auto-credited. You claim them in the Tata Neu App within 12 months of the statement, at least 100 per claim and up to 3 claims a day, and claimed coins stay valid 12 months more.
Where SBI Card's version is different
- UPI: 1.5% on UPI from the RuPay variant, with no Tata Neu UPI ID condition stated, also capped at 500 NeuCoins a month.
- Merchant EMI and Flexipay: earn nothing.
- Brand limits: SBI Card states no cap on the 5% partner-brand coins, and the extra NeuPass rate of up to 5% is left to Tata Neu's own terms.
- Crediting: coins move to your NeuPass account by themselves within 7 working days of the statement. SBI Card doesn't state an expiry, and coins not yet moved is lost if you switch to a non-Tata Neu SBI card.
Three budgets on both versions
| Budget and card | NeuCoins a month | NeuCoins in the year | Fee with GST | Domestic lounge visits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹20,000 a month, HDFC Bank | 445 (475 with the Tata Neu UPI ID) | 5,340 | ₹1,768.82 | 2 vouchers a quarter |
| ₹20,000 a month, SBI Card | 475 | 5,700 | ₹1,768.82 | None after the first quarter |
| ₹40,000 a month, HDFC Bank | 1,060 (1,160 with the Tata Neu UPI ID) | 12,720 | Waived | 2 vouchers a quarter |
| ₹40,000 a month, SBI Card | 1,160 | 13,920 | Reversed | 2 a quarter |
| ₹60,000 a month plus a ₹60,000 EMI phone, HDFC Bank | 1,250 | 15,900 | Waived | 2 vouchers a quarter |
| ₹60,000 a month plus a ₹60,000 EMI phone, SBI Card | 1,250 | 15,000 | Reversed | 2 a quarter |
₹20,000 a month: BigBasket ₹5,000, other card spends ₹12,000, UPI at shops through PhonePe ₹3,000. Both earn 250 coins at BigBasket (5%) and 180 on other spends (1.5%). The UPI ₹3,000 gives 45 on SBI Card but only 15 on HDFC (0.5%) unless you pay with the Tata Neu UPI ID. A ₹2.4 lakh year falls short of the ₹3 lakh waiver, so both fee is paid. Even without UPI, the quarter's ₹51,000 of card spends (₹17,000 times 3) clears HDFC's ₹50,000 voucher mark, while the full ₹60,000 still misses SBI Card's ₹75,000.
₹40,000 a month: BigBasket ₹8,000, Croma ₹5,000, Tata CLiQ ₹3,000, other spends ₹14,000, UPI ₹10,000 through other apps. Tata brands give 800 coins (5% of ₹16,000) and other spends 210 on both. UPI gives 150 on SBI Card and 50 on HDFC, or 150 with the Tata Neu UPI ID. Over a year that's 12,720 against 13,920 coins, a ₹1,200 gap only for using of the wrong UPI app.
₹60,000 a month plus one EMI purchase: Tata brands ₹10,000 (500 coins), other spends ₹35,000 (525), utilities ₹5,000 (75) and UPI ₹10,000 paid with the Tata Neu UPI ID on HDFC (150), so 1,250 a month, 15,000 a year, on both. Add a ₹60,000 phone at Croma on merchant EMI: HDFC gives 1.5%, 900 coins, SBI Card none. Bought outright, the same phone would earn 5%, 3,000 coins, on either.
Lounges, forex, fuel and insurance
Domestic lounges
Both give 2 domestic visits a quarter, 8 a year, but the rule to earn them is different. HDFC hands out 2 lounge vouchers for any calendar quarter in which you spend ₹50,000, to claim within 120 days and use within 180. SBI Card opens 2 visits a quarter if you spent ₹75,000 in the previous calendar quarter, with the month and quarter of issue exempt. So HDFC needs ₹16,667 a month (₹50,000 divided by 3) and SBI Card ₹25,000 (₹75,000 divided by 3). For a lighter spender, HDFC is the one that actually give lounges.
International lounges
Both offer 4 international visits a year, 1 a quarter. HDFC's Visa card gets Priority Pass on request, and the 4 visits are shared between primary and add-on; its RuPay card has 4 a year of its own. SBI Card's Priority Pass membership is valid 2 years. Extra visits cost US$27 plus GST at HDFC and up to USD 27 plus taxes at SBI Card.
Forex and currency conversion
SBI Card charges 1.99% on foreign currency spends and HDFC 2%. On ₹1 lakh spent abroad, that's ₹1,990 against ₹2,000 before GST, so very less difference is there. Paying in rupees at an overseas merchant is where they part: HDFC's currency conversion fee is 1.75% since 15 May 2026, while SBI Card charges the card's own 1.99% on such payments of ₹1,000 or more.
Fuel
Both waive the 1% fuel surcharge up to ₹500 a statement cycle. HDFC's waiver works on bills of ₹400 to ₹5,000 and SBI Card's on ₹500 to ₹4,000, so a ₹4,500 tank-full get the waiver only on HDFC. Fuel earns no NeuCoins on either.
Insurance
This is HDFC's most clearest extra. Its group policy for 23 July 2026 to 22 July 2027 gives the primary cardholder air accident cover of USD 125,000, emergency medical expenses abroad of USD 18,750, card liability of ₹9,00,000 and a credit shield of ₹9,00,000, plus USD 313 each for missed connections and flight delays. SBI Card's page lists no insurance for its version. For someone flying a few times a year, that alone can tilt the choice.
Published rules side by side
| Rule | HDFC Bank version | SBI Card version |
|---|---|---|
| Age, salaried | 21 to 60 | 21 or above; maximum given as 60 in one place and 70 in another |
| Age, self-employed | 21 to 65 | Above 25 for an online application |
| Income, salaried | Gross monthly income above ₹1 lakh | Not published |
| Income, self-employed | ITR above ₹12 lakh a year | Not published |
| Credit score | Not published | Preferably 750 to 900 |
| Networks | Visa or RuPay | Visa or RuPay |
| Documents | Identity, address and income proof | PAN, masked Aadhaar or other address proof, income papers if asked |
The income rule is the biggest gap
HDFC asks salaried applicants for gross monthly income above ₹1 lakh, ₹12 lakh a year (₹1 lakh times 12), and self-employed applicants for an ITR above ₹12 lakh. SBI Card publishes no minimum income for this card or any of its cards. Its card finder files the card under a monthly income band it labels 50 to 99K, but that's only a filter for browsing, not a rule. If you earn under ₹1 lakh a month, SBI Card's version is the one whose published terms you don't fail, though approval still lie with SBI Card.
SBI Card's own page gives the maximum age as 60 in one spot and 70 in another, so do check it if you're close to it. Both issue the card on Visa or RuPay, and you need the RuPay one for UPI.
Applying
HDFC takes applications online through its card page or at a branch, and existing customers may not have to send documents again. SBI Card takes them online, through its ILA chatbot, on its helpline or at SBI branches. Whichever you pick, the bank checks your own income and existing limits before deciding, as RBI rules require, and owes you written reasons if it declines. Queries go to HDFC Bank customer care or SBI Card customer care, not to Tata Neu, because the bank are your card issuer.
Which Tata Neu Infinity to take
Take the SBI Card version if
- You pay a lot by UPI from PhonePe, Google Pay or similar apps and don't want to switch to the Tata Neu UPI ID.
- You'd rather the NeuCoins just turns up in NeuPass without any claim to remember.
- Your income is below HDFC's line of ₹1 lakh gross a month.
- You want the slightly lower 1.99% forex markup.
Take the HDFC Bank version if
- You earn above ₹1 lakh gross a month and fly often enough to value its air accident and travel cover.
- You spend ₹50,000 to ₹75,000 a quarter, where only HDFC's lounge vouchers kick in.
- You buy big items on merchant EMI, which earns 1.5% here and nothing on SBI Card.
- You are fine to claim coins in the Tata Neu App at least once a year.
When neither is worth ₹1,499
If Tata brands are a small part of your spending, a 1.5% card for ₹1,499 is not special, and a plain cashback card may serve better, see our online shopping cards. If you spend under ₹25,000 a month, the fee won't be waived, and HDFC's cheaper Tata Neu Plus at ₹499 plus GST, waived at ₹1 lakh, pays 2% on Tata brands instead. Heavy UPI users can also look at our RuPay cards for UPI. Both issuers' wider ranges are on our HDFC Bank and SBI Card pages.
