Check the number before you dial

Searching for a customer care number is one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance: fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings and social-media replies. Take the number from HDFC Life's own site or from inside its app, and never accept inbound help. No insurer in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing app, and no genuine refund requires you to pay first.

HDFC Life's own published warning: “"BEWARE OF SPURIOUS PHONE CALLS AND FICTITIOUS/FRAUDULENT OFFERS — IRDAI or its officials do not involve in any activities of insurance business like selling insurance policies, announcing bonus or investment of premiums, refund of amounts. Policyholders or the prospects receiving such phone calls are requested to lodge a police complaint." HDFC Life additionally states on its Customer Service page: "If it's HDFC Life calling, it starts with 1600. Calls starting with 1600 are genuine policy servicing calls from HDFC Life."”

If money has already left your account, call 1930 and file at cybercrime.gov.in the same hour — see the first-hour fraud steps.

What you can get done on the HDFC Life helpline

  • Get information on policy benefits, premium payment, claim status and change requests (022-68446530 / service@hdfclife.com)
  • Pay premium online and register for auto-debit
  • Get premium receipt, annual premium statement, annual unit statement, payment summary and policy soft copy via the WhatsApp Etty bot
  • Check fund value and sum assured (WhatsApp bot, or missed call to 08000006609 for fund value, premium amount and due date — ULIPs only)
  • Update mobile number / email ID, NEFT bank details, PAN, KYC and address (Quick Services / My Account / service@hdfclife.com / 022-68446530 / branch)
  • Revive a lapsed, paid-up or discontinued policy and set up standing instructions
  • Intimate and register a death claim — at a branch, on the website claim form, or by messaging "Death Claim" to WhatsApp 8291890569; track an individual death claim online
  • Apply for a loan against an HDFC Life policy (022-62874200)
  • Register a grievance and escalate it through Level 1 and Level 2, and escalate to Bima Bharosa / Insurance Ombudsman
  • Locate the nearest branch (including by sending location to the WhatsApp bot)

Keep these ready before you call — your policy number, registered mobile number, the exact date and amount of the transaction in question, and any earlier complaint reference number. Ask for a reference number before the call ends and note the agent's name: without a reference, an escalation has nothing to attach to.

Registering a claim with HDFC Life

Claim intimation

Turnaround
HDFC Life publishes on its claims page: "2 Days Avg. Claim Settlement Time — Requests with complete documentation" and "99.72% Individual Claims* FY 2025–2026" ("Average TAT for all Individual death claims settled for the financial Year"). The IRDAI-prescribed maximum processing timelines quoted by HDFC Life: "Claim which does not require an investigation — 15 days from the date of lodging the claim; Claim which requires an investigation — 45 days from the date of lodging the claim."

Keep the claim moving

Intimate the claim first and get the claim number, then send documents against it — a claim that is not intimated cannot be tracked or escalated. Ask for the deficiency list in writing rather than over the phone, so that every pending document is on record; repeated requests for documents already submitted are the single most common reason a claim drifts. If the claim is repudiated, ask for the repudiation in writing with the policy clause cited: the Insurance Ombudsman will ask for exactly that letter.

HDFC Life grievance redressal — officer, address and timelines

IRDAI requires every insurer to appoint and publish a Grievance Redressal Officer. This is who you write to when customer care has not fixed the problem — and the step you must complete before the Ombudsman will hear you.

Timeline
First-time concern: "You will receive a response within the regulatory turnaround time (TAT) of 14 days of form submission." Level 1: response within 10 working days. Level 2 (GRO): response within 7 working days. Complaint may be re-opened within 8 weeks of receipt of HDFC Life's communication.

What to put in the escalation email

One screen, no adjectives. Open with your policy number and the earlier complaint reference. Then: what happened, with dates and amounts; what you have already been told; and what specific outcome you want — a reversal, a corrected bureau entry, a closure letter. Attach screenshots and statements as files rather than describing them. Close with a line saying that if it is not resolved within 15 days you will take it to the IRDAI Bima Bharosa portal and the Insurance Ombudsman. That sentence changes how the file is handled, because it starts a clock the company is measured on.

If HDFC Life does not resolve it: the escalation ladder

Each level has to be attempted before the next one will hear you, and each one needs the reference number from the level below. Nothing here costs money and none of it needs a lawyer.

Step 1 — State your concern

HDFC Life customer service / Grievance Redressal Officer at your nearest HDFC Life branch, or the online grievance redressal form

service@HDFCLife.com or 022-68446530 (Call Charges Apply, Mon to Sat, from 10 am to 7 pm IST), or the form at https://www.hdfclife.com/customer-service/grievance-redressal, or in person at a branch

"You will receive a response within the regulatory turnaround time (TAT) of 14 days of form submission. In case of non-receipt of response within 14 days or if you are not satisfied with the response, you may raise it to the next level (Level 1)"

Level 1

Chief Manager and above — Customer Relations

Level One form on https://www.hdfclife.com/customer-service/grievance-redressal (requires the reference number emailed to you plus policy/application number)

"You will receive a response within 10 working days of form submission. In case of non-receipt of response within 10 working days or if you are not satisfied with the response, you may raise it to the next level (Level 2)"

Level 2

Grievance Redressal Officer / Vice President (Customer Relations) — Ms. Valencia Rodricks

gro@hdfclife.com, or the Level Two form on https://www.hdfclife.com/customer-service/grievance-redressal

"You will receive a response within 7 working days of form submission." The GRO is the highest level of escalation within the company.

HDFC Life customer care — frequently asked questions

What is the HDFC Life customer care number?
022-68446530 (Existing customers / policy servicing — "For information on your policy benefits, premium payment, claim status, change request or to buy new policies"; also the number to state a grievance and the Indian-resident claims helpline), +91-8916694100 (NRI service helpline (existing NRI customers; also NRI claims)), 1800-266-9777 (Toll-free "Call to Buy" — new policy purchase / online applications), +91-8916613503 (NRI customers — to buy a policy), 022-62874200 (Loan against your HDFC Life policy), 08000006609 (Missed-call service — "to get details on your Fund Value (Applicable for Unit Linked Plans only), Premium Amount and Due Date"), 9980970424 (Missed-call number to buy a policy). It is published as a 24x7 line. These are taken from HDFC Life's own official contact page — verify anything you find elsewhere against that page or inside the app before calling.
Is there a 24x7 HDFC Life helpline?
Yes. HDFC Life publishes 022-68446530, +91-8916694100, 1800-266-9777, 022-62874200 as available round the clock. Toll-free: 1800-266-9777.
Does HDFC Life have a WhatsApp number?
Yes — +91 8291890569, published on its own website. HDFC Life WhatsApp "Etty" bot: "I can help you buy a new policy or answer queries on your existing insurance plan, at a time and place of your convenience, 24/7." Published services: Annual Unit Statement, Annual Premium Statement, Online Premium Payment, Premium Reciept [sic], Fund Value, Sum Assured, Payment Summary, Policy Soft Copy, Policy Details, Nearest Branch. Death claims can also be initiated by messaging "Death Claim" to 8291890569. Available in English, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi. Save it from the official page rather than from a forwarded message: impersonating support on WhatsApp is one of the most common fraud methods in Indian lending today.
How do I file a complaint against HDFC Life?
Start with customer care and get a complaint reference number — every later step depends on it. If it is unresolved, write to the Grievance Redressal Officer listed above with that reference, your account or policy number and dates. If the insurer does not attend to it within 15 days or the resolution does not satisfy you, complain to IRDAI through the Bima Bharosa portal, and after the insurer’s final reply you may approach the Insurance Ombudsman free of charge.
Who is the grievance redressal officer of HDFC Life?
Ms. Valencia Rodricks, Grievance Redressal Officer / Vice President (Customer Relations), reachable at gro@hdfclife.com or 022-68446530. Officer names change — the full current details are always on HDFC Life's own grievance page, linked at the foot of this page.
How do I know a HDFC Life customer care number is genuine?
Take it from only two places: the official website, and the support section inside the app. IRDAI requires the detail to be displayed there, and it is the one place a fraudster cannot edit. Never dial a number from a search snippet, a map listing, a social-media reply or a comment thread. And never accept inbound help — if someone calls claiming to be HDFC Life, hang up and dial the official number yourself. No company will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV or a screen-sharing app.
