24x7: at least one line above is published as round-the-clock. Fraud and card-block requests should always go to that line immediately — speed, not paperwork, is what limits your loss.

Check the number before you dial

Searching for a customer care number is one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance: fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings and social-media replies. Take the number from Star Health Insurance's own site or from inside its app, and never accept inbound help. No insurer in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing app, and no genuine refund requires you to pay first.

Star Health Insurance's own published warning: “"BEWARE OF SPURIOUS PHONE CALLS AND FICTITIOUS/FRAUDULENT OFFERS - IRDAI or its officials do not involve in activities like selling insurance policies, announcing bonus or investment of premiums. Public receiving such phone calls are requested to lodge a police complaint." Star also publishes, on hospital empanelment: "In the event that you receive any solicitation for fees (whether from a Star Health Employee or any third party), you are hereby advised to promptly notify the company by emailing us at complaints.empanelment@starhealth.in. Any such solicitation should be deemed unauthorized and potentially fraudulent."”

If money has already left your account, call 1930 and file at cybercrime.gov.in the same hour — see the first-hour fraud steps.

What you can get done on the Star Health Insurance helpline

  • Buy a new policy (1800 425 2255) and renew a policy (1800 102 4477)
  • Intimate a claim - mandatory before a reimbursement claim form is filled
  • Intimate emergency hospitalisation within 24 hours of illness/hospitalisation
  • Intimate planned hospitalisation 48 hours before admission for the Cashless Anywhere facility at a non-network hospital
  • Get cashless pre-authorisation processed by the in-house medical team
  • Check claim status (Claim Status / Claim Dashboard on the site)
  • Locate a network hospital, agreed network hospital, excluded hospital or network lab
  • Locate the nearest branch office
  • Report a lost or stolen health card
  • Raise and escalate a grievance with a unique reference number
  • Update CKYC, register for DND, request portability (Portability page under Services)

Keep these ready before you call — your policy number, registered mobile number, the exact date and amount of the transaction in question, and any earlier complaint reference number. Ask for a reference number before the call ends and note the agent's name: without a reference, an escalation has nothing to attach to.

Claim intimation

Turnaround
Star publishes a performance claim, not a committed TAT: "Over 96% cashless final approvals within 3 hours." IRDAI's Master Circular on Health Insurance Business (29.05.2024) sets the binding rule: "Insurer shall decide on the request for cashless authorization immediately but not more than one hour of receipt of request" and "Insurer shall grant final authorization within three hours of the receipt of discharge authorization request from the hospital. In no case, the policyholder shall be made to wait to be discharged from the Hospital."

"1. Approach the insurance desk at a network hospital and they will intimate Star Health. Meanwhile, you could also notify us by contacting 1800 425 2255 / 1800 102 4477 or by emailing support@starhealth.in". For planned admission: "For a planned surgery, approach the hospital prior to the date of admission who will send the completed pre-authorisation form", and the hospital "will send the duly filled pre-authorisation form through the hospital portal or via the email cashless.network@starhealth.in". Under "Cashless Anywhere" at a non-network hospital, "claim intimation must be done 48 hours before admission for planned hospitalisation and within 24 hours of admission for emergency hospitalisation". Emergency: "Star Health must be intimated within 24 hours of the illness / hospitalisation".

Senior citizen channel

IRDAI requires insurers to handle senior-citizen complaints through a dedicated channel. Star Health Insurance publishes one:

044 4002 0888 (Senior Citizen Claims) / 044 6900 7500 (Senior Citizen Grievance)

Star Health Insurance grievance redressal — officer, address and timelines

IRDAI requires every insurer to appoint and publish a Grievance Redressal Officer. This is who you write to when customer care has not fixed the problem — and the step you must complete before the Ombudsman will hear you.

Grievance Redressal Officer

Name
S. Chandrabose
Designation
Grievance Redressal Officer, Corporate Grievance Department
Address
4th Floor, Balaji Complex, No. 15, Whites Lane, Whites Road, Royapettah, Chennai - 600014
Hours
not published
Timeline
"All grievances are recorded and assigned a unique reference number, which will be shared with you immediately upon receipt" and "any representation escalated through these levels is duly acknowledged, thoroughly reviewed, and responded to within the defined timelines". Star does not publish the number of days on this page.

What to put in the escalation email

One screen, no adjectives. Open with your policy number and the earlier complaint reference. Then: what happened, with dates and amounts; what you have already been told; and what specific outcome you want — a reversal, a corrected bureau entry, a closure letter. Attach screenshots and statements as files rather than describing them. Close with a line saying that if it is not resolved within 15 days you will take it to the IRDAI Bima Bharosa portal and the Insurance Ombudsman. That sentence changes how the file is handled, because it starts a clock the company is measured on.

Registered office: Star Health and Allied Insurance Co Ltd, Registered Office: No 1, New Tank Street, Valluvarkottam High Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai 600034. IRDAI Registration No: 129, CIN: L66010TN2005PLC056649

If Star Health Insurance does not resolve it: the escalation ladder

Star Health Insurance customer care — frequently asked questions

What is the Star Health Insurance customer care number?
1800 425 2255 (Main toll-free helpline - buy policy, policy servicing, claim intimation, claim clarifications), 1800 102 4477 (Second toll-free line - policy renewal and claim intimation), 044 6900 6900 (Claims Assistance - General Helpline (also listed for Partner Services)), 044 4366 4666 (Corporate Claims), 044 6666 5050 (Banca Channel claims), 044 4366 4600 (Grievance Care helpline), 044 4002 0888 (Senior Citizen Claims helpline), 044 6900 7500 (Senior Citizen Grievance helpline), 044-28288800 (Registered office board line (from the site footer)), 044-28886401 / 044-28886405 (Claims help desk, Corporate Office UNIT1 (Ahmedabad, Bhopal & Indore, Chandigarh, Delhi, Lucknow, Pune, Rajasthan zones)). It is published as a 24x7 line. These are taken from Star Health Insurance's own official contact page — verify anything you find elsewhere against that page or inside the app before calling.
Is there a 24x7 Star Health Insurance helpline?
Yes. Star Health Insurance publishes 1800 425 2255 as available round the clock. Toll-free: 1800 425 2255, 1800 102 4477.
Does Star Health Insurance have a WhatsApp number?
Yes — +91 9597652225, published on its own website. "Chat Service" link published in the site header/contact module; the contact page says "You can reach out through call, chat, mail, or WhatsApp, whichever is convenient for you." No itemised capability list is published. Save it from the official page rather than from a forwarded message: impersonating support on WhatsApp is one of the most common fraud methods in Indian lending today.
How do I file a complaint against Star Health Insurance?
Start with customer care and get a complaint reference number — every later step depends on it. If it is unresolved, write to the Grievance Redressal Officer listed above with that reference, your account or policy number and dates. If the insurer does not attend to it within 15 days or the resolution does not satisfy you, complain to IRDAI through the Bima Bharosa portal, and after the insurer’s final reply you may approach the Insurance Ombudsman free of charge.
Who is the grievance redressal officer of Star Health Insurance?
S. Chandrabose, Grievance Redressal Officer, Corporate Grievance Department, reachable at grievances@starhealth.in or 044-4366 4600 (Grievance Helpline); 044-6900 7500 (Senior Citizens Helpline). Officer names change — the full current details are always on Star Health Insurance's own grievance page, linked at the foot of this page.
How do I know a Star Health Insurance customer care number is genuine?
Take it from only two places: the official website, and the support section inside the app. IRDAI requires the detail to be displayed there, and it is the one place a fraudster cannot edit. Never dial a number from a search snippet, a map listing, a social-media reply or a comment thread. And never accept inbound help — if someone calls claiming to be Star Health Insurance, hang up and dial the official number yourself. No company will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV or a screen-sharing app.
