Every contact below is taken from LIC's own official contact and grievance page — not from a directory listing. Along with the numbers you will find what each channel can actually resolve, the grievance officer to escalate to, and the free IRDAI route above them if LIC does not fix your problem.

WhatsApp

+91-8976862090

LIC's official WhatsApp service. Per LIC's press release: "Policyholders who have registered their Policies on the LIC Portal will be able to make use of these services on WhatsApp by saying 'Hi' on Mobile No. 8976862090." The published list of the individual menu options appears only as a screenshot image in that press release, so the exact per-service wording could not be read from a primary source.

Email

24x7: at least one line above is published as round-the-clock. Fraud and card-block requests should always go to that line immediately — speed, not paperwork, is what limits your loss.

Check the number before you dial

Searching for a customer care number is one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance: fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings and social-media replies. Take the number from LIC's own site or from inside its app, and never accept inbound help. No insurer in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing app, and no genuine refund requires you to pay first.

LIC's own published warning: “Beware of misleading telephone calls from people posing as LIC officials, agents, IRDAI Officials, Officials from ECI (Office of the Executive Council of Insurers) etc. and offering alluring benefits. Please be informed that: LIC does not share bonus information with the policyholders through phone calls. LIC never encourages policyholders to discontinue their existing policy/policies.”

If money has already left your account, call 1930 and file at cybercrime.gov.in the same hour — see the first-hour fraud steps.

What you can get done on the LIC helpline

  • Pay premium (cash counter, alternate channels, customer portal, credit card, premium points)
  • Check policy status
  • Check premium due, bonus information, loan eligibility/repayment quotation, loan interest due, premium paid certificate and ULIP unit statement via WhatsApp/portal (menu list image-only on LIC's press release)
  • Update contact details (offline)
  • Change of address, policy revival, nomination change, premium certificates and customer-portal registration at Customer Zones
  • Intimate a death claim in writing to the servicing branch and obtain claim forms
  • Check claims settlement requirements for maturity and death claims
  • Search for unclaimed amounts
  • Register and track a grievance (ICMS portal for registered customer-portal users; e-mail; Grievance Redressal Officer at branch/divisional/zonal/central level)
  • Report spurious calls
  • NRI services via the NRI Centre

Keep these ready before you call — your policy number, registered mobile number, the exact date and amount of the transaction in question, and any earlier complaint reference number. Ask for a reference number before the call ends and note the agent's name: without a reference, an escalation has nothing to attach to.

Claim intimation

Turnaround
LIC does not publish a numeric claim settlement turnaround on its claims pages. It states: "The settlement of claims is a very important aspect of service to the policyholders. Hence, the Corporation has laid great emphasis on expeditious settlement of Maturity as well as Death Claims." For death claims, intimation in writing (with the death certificate) must be given to the servicing branch; LIC states intimation should be notified within 90 days from the date of death for claims to be admissible. For maturity claims, the servicing branch sends a letter at least two months before the policy monies become payable.

Keep the claim moving

Intimate the claim first and get the claim number, then send documents against it — a claim that is not intimated cannot be tracked or escalated. Ask for the deficiency list in writing rather than over the phone, so that every pending document is on record; repeated requests for documents already submitted are the single most common reason a claim drifts. If the claim is repudiated, ask for the repudiation in writing with the policy clause cited: the Insurance Ombudsman will ask for exactly that letter.

LIC grievance redressal — officer, address and timelines

IRDAI requires every insurer to appoint and publish a Grievance Redressal Officer. This is who you write to when customer care has not fixed the problem — and the step you must complete before the Ombudsman will hear you.

Grievance Redressal Officer

Name
Rachna Khare
Designation
Executive Director (CRM-PS), Customer Relationship Management, HQ Mumbai — Corporate Grievance Redressal Officer for Policy Services (Conventional Policies)
Phone
022-22029593
Address
Life Insurance Corporation of India, Central Office 'Yogakshema', Jeevan Bima Marg, Nariman Point, Mumbai 400021
Hours
"The respective Grievance Redressal Officers are available at their Offices for personal interviews with the customers on all Mondays between 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., except on holidays without prior appointment." Customers may meet them on other days with prior appointment.
Timeline
IRDAI requires the insurer to resolve a complaint within 15 days of registration.

What to put in the escalation email

One screen, no adjectives. Open with your policy number and the earlier complaint reference. Then: what happened, with dates and amounts; what you have already been told; and what specific outcome you want — a reversal, a corrected bureau entry, a closure letter. Attach screenshots and statements as files rather than describing them. Close with a line saying that if it is not resolved within 15 days you will take it to the IRDAI Bima Bharosa portal and the Insurance Ombudsman. That sentence changes how the file is handled, because it starts a clock the company is measured on.

Registered office: Life Insurance Corporation of India, Central Office 'Yogakshema', Jeevan Bima Marg, Nariman Point, Mumbai 400021

LIC customer care — frequently asked questions

What is the LIC customer care number?
+91-22-68276827 (Main call centre / customer helpline (policy enquiries, grievances)), 9222492224 (SMS service — send "LICHELP " for policy information), 56767877 (SMS service (alternate short code) — send "LICHELP "), 022-22029593 (Corporate Grievance Redressal Officer, Policy Services - Conventional Policies (CRM HQ Mumbai)), 022-22024597 (Corporate Grievance Redressal Officer, Conventional New Policies (New Business & Reinsurance HQ Mumbai)), 022-22029594 (Corporate Grievance Redressal Officer, Pension & Group Schemes / Group Annuity Policies), 022-22027527 (Corporate Grievance Redressal Officer, Agents / Development Officers / Intermediaries), 8976923091 (Health Insurance TPA (Healthindia Insurance TPA Services Pvt. Ltd) toll free — LIC health policies), 8976923092 (Health Insurance TPA senior citizens toll free). It is published as a 24x7 line. These are taken from LIC's own official contact page — verify anything you find elsewhere against that page or inside the app before calling.
Is there a 24x7 LIC helpline?
Yes. LIC publishes +91-22-68276827 as available round the clock.
Does LIC have a WhatsApp number?
Yes — +91-8976862090, published on its own website. Save it from the official page rather than from a forwarded message: impersonating support on WhatsApp is one of the most common fraud methods in Indian lending today.
How do I file a complaint against LIC?
Start with customer care and get a complaint reference number — every later step depends on it. If it is unresolved, write to the Grievance Redressal Officer listed above with that reference, your account or policy number and dates. If the insurer does not attend to it within 15 days or the resolution does not satisfy you, complain to IRDAI through the Bima Bharosa portal, and after the insurer’s final reply you may approach the Insurance Ombudsman free of charge.
Who is the grievance redressal officer of LIC?
Rachna Khare, Executive Director (CRM-PS), Customer Relationship Management, HQ Mumbai — Corporate Grievance Redressal Officer for Policy Services (Conventional Policies), reachable at co_complaints@licindia.com or 022-22029593. Officer names change — the full current details are always on LIC's own grievance page, linked at the foot of this page.
How do I know a LIC customer care number is genuine?
Take it from only two places: the official website, and the support section inside the app. IRDAI requires the detail to be displayed there, and it is the one place a fraudster cannot edit. Never dial a number from a search snippet, a map listing, a social-media reply or a comment thread. And never accept inbound help — if someone calls claiming to be LIC, hang up and dial the official number yourself. No company will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV or a screen-sharing app.
