Check the number before you dial
Searching for a customer care number is one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance: fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings and social-media replies. Take the number from SBI Life's own site or from inside its app, and never accept inbound help. No insurer in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing app, and no genuine refund requires you to pay first.
SBI Life's own published warning: “"BEWARE OF SPURIOUS PHONE CALLS AND FICTITIOUS / FRAUDULENT OFFERS - IRDAI or its officials do not involve in activities like selling insurance policies, announcing bonus or investment of premiums. Public receiving such phone calls are requested to lodge a police complaint." SBI Life also publishes: "SBI Life only sends emails from the domain names sbilife.co.in and sbi-life.com. Please do not respond to emails from other domains, as they may be fraudulent or phishing attempts."”
If money has already left your account, call 1930 and file at cybercrime.gov.in the same hour — see the first-hour fraud steps.
What you can get done on the SBI Life helpline
- › Pay premium online through the Pay Premium section or other modes listed on the Premium Payment Procedure page; SBI Life states "you can choose from multiple secure options"
- › Get policy updates, coverage and premium details by SMS from the registered mobile number to 56161 or 9250001848 (SBI Life's "Quick SMS Service"); the contact widget also lists "Send an SMS on LIBERATE to 56161"
- › Register/intimate a claim online, by email, by post or at any branch (Claim Intimation and Settlement Process)
- › Track claim status online using the policy number, or via the Smart Care claim tracker, or by contacting the support team
- › Update address, bank account details and PAN through the Smart Care self-service portal (Profile Update under Services Corner) or at a branch
- › Change nominee by submitting the Change in Nomination Form at a branch or by post to the Central Processing Center, Navi Mumbai
- › Change fund allocation percentage or switch funds using the Fund Switch and Redirection Form (submit at a branch or fax to 022-66456105)
- › Register a grievance by phone, email, letter, SMS, the website, the Smart Care mobile app, or by walking into a branch, and receive a unique Service Request (SR) number to track it
- › Download policy servicing forms, claim forms and ombudsman-related forms from the Download Centre
- › Locate and visit a branch via the Branch Locator; NRI policyholders can manage policies via the NRI portal
Keep these ready before you call — your policy number, registered mobile number, the exact date and amount of the transaction in question, and any earlier complaint reference number. Ask for a reference number before the call ends and note the agent's name: without a reference, an escalation has nothing to attach to.
Registering a claim with SBI Life
Claim intimation
- Phone
- 18002679090 (Toll Free)
- info@sbilife.co.in
- Turnaround
- "We understand that claim settlements are important and time-sensitive. For eligible cases, we aim to process claims within 24 hours of receiving all required documents." SBI Life also states a claim can be submitted "online, by email, by post, or at any branch".
Keep the claim moving
Intimate the claim first and get the claim number, then send documents against it — a claim that is not intimated cannot be tracked or escalated. Ask for the deficiency list in writing rather than over the phone, so that every pending document is on record; repeated requests for documents already submitted are the single most common reason a claim drifts. If the claim is repudiated, ask for the repudiation in writing with the policy clause cited: the Insurance Ombudsman will ask for exactly that letter.
SBI Life grievance redressal — officer, address and timelines
IRDAI requires every insurer to appoint and publish a Grievance Redressal Officer. This is who you write to when customer care has not fixed the problem — and the step you must complete before the Ombudsman will hear you.
Grievance Redressal Officer
- Name
- Mr. Anil Bhatt
- Designation
- Chief of Customer Service & Experience (Grievance Redressal Officer)
- ccseoffice@sbilife.co.in
- Phone
- 022-6645 6200
- Address
- SBI Life Insurance Company Limited, Central Processing Centre, 7th Level (D Wing) & 8th Level, Seawoods Grand Central, Tower 2, Plot No R-1, Sector - 40, Seawoods, Nerul Node, Navi Mumbai - 400706
- Hours
- not published
- Timeline
- "Timeline: You will receive our response to your complaint within 2 weeks of receipt of complaint" (grievance page). The Grievance Redressal Procedure Ver. 9.0 states: a written acknowledgement is sent immediately on receipt; the company seeks any further details from the complainant within one week; "The grievance will be addressed within 14 days of its receipt and the resolution letter will be communicated to the complainant, detailing the decision and the reasons for it." If no reply is received from the complainant within 8 weeks of SBI Life's response, the grievance is treated as closed.
What to put in the escalation email
One screen, no adjectives. Open with your policy number and the earlier complaint reference. Then: what happened, with dates and amounts; what you have already been told; and what specific outcome you want — a reversal, a corrected bureau entry, a closure letter. Attach screenshots and statements as files rather than describing them. Close with a line saying that if it is not resolved within 15 days you will take it to the IRDAI Bima Bharosa portal and the Insurance Ombudsman. That sentence changes how the file is handled, because it starts a clock the company is measured on.
Registered office: REGISTERED & CORPORATE OFFICE: SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd, Natraj, M.V. Road & Western Express Highway Junction, Andheri (East), Mumbai - 400 069. CIN: L99999MH2000PLC129113. IRDAI Registration No. 111 issued on 29th March 2001.
If SBI Life does not resolve it: the escalation ladder
Each level has to be attempted before the next one will hear you, and each one needs the reference number from the level below. Nothing here costs money and none of it needs a lawyer.
