Check the number before you dial

Searching for a customer care number is one of the most exploited moments in Indian consumer finance: fraudsters seed fake helplines into search results, map listings and social-media replies. Take the number from New India Assurance's own site or from inside its app, and never accept inbound help. No insurer in India will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV, full card number or a screen-sharing app, and no genuine refund requires you to pay first.

New India Assurance's own published warning: “"BEWARE OF SPURIOUS PHONE CALLS AND FICTITIOUS / FRAUDULENT OFFERS - IRDAI or its officials do not involve in activities like selling insurance policies, announcing bonus or investment of premiums. Public receiving such phone calls are requested to lodge a police complaint."”

If money has already left your account, call 1930 and file at cybercrime.gov.in the same hour — see the first-hour fraud steps.

What you can get done on the New India Assurance helpline

  • Raise a query on a policy or claim with the policy-issuing office by policy-number-derived email
  • Register a grievance online through NIA Grievance Redressal, or via IRDAI's Bima Bharosa
  • Look up the Customer Care Officer / branch Grievance Officer for a city or policy number
  • Find the network hospitals list and the office-wise retail TPA list
  • Get technical help with online payments, policy numbers and transaction issues
  • Use the senior-citizen helpline, dedicated email and landline
  • Escalate from the policy-issuing office to Regional Office, then Head Office, then Ombudsman

Keep these ready before you call — your policy number, registered mobile number, the exact date and amount of the transaction in question, and any earlier complaint reference number. Ask for a reference number before the call ends and note the agent's name: without a reference, an escalation has nothing to attach to.

Turnaround
New India does not publish its own cashless turnaround on the readable pages. IRDAI's Master Circular on Health Insurance Business (29.05.2024) applies: "Insurer shall decide on the request for cashless authorization immediately but not more than one hour of receipt of request" and "Insurer shall grant final authorization within three hours of the receipt of discharge authorization request from the hospital."

Senior citizen channel

IRDAI requires insurers to handle senior-citizen complaints through a dedicated channel. New India Assurance publishes one:

1800-209-1415 (Senior Citizen Helpline); 022-22708348 (senior citizen grievance landline) · seniorcitizencare.ho@newindia.co.in

New India Assurance grievance redressal — officer, address and timelines

IRDAI requires every insurer to appoint and publish a Grievance Redressal Officer. This is who you write to when customer care has not fixed the problem — and the step you must complete before the Ombudsman will hear you.

Grievance Redressal Officer

Name
Mr. K K Sunil Kumar
Designation
Deputy General Manager & Grievance Redressal Officer
Address
The New India Assurance Co. Ltd., Head Office, #87, M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai 400 001
Hours
not published
Timeline
"Every Grievance is expected to be resolved within a maximum period of fourteen (14) days from the date of receipt of the Grievance by the concerned office or department." On receipt the office sends an acknowledgement "intimating a Registration Number" and "Promising necessary action within fourteen days", plus "The name, address, email id and Phone number of the authority to whom the Complainant could escalate the matter".

What to put in the escalation email

One screen, no adjectives. Open with your policy number and the earlier complaint reference. Then: what happened, with dates and amounts; what you have already been told; and what specific outcome you want — a reversal, a corrected bureau entry, a closure letter. Attach screenshots and statements as files rather than describing them. Close with a line saying that if it is not resolved within 15 days you will take it to the IRDAI Bima Bharosa portal and the Insurance Ombudsman. That sentence changes how the file is handled, because it starts a clock the company is measured on.

If New India Assurance does not resolve it: the escalation ladder

Each level has to be attempted before the next one will hear you, and each one needs the reference number from the level below. Nothing here costs money and none of it needs a lawyer.

"For any grievances, please first contact the policy issuing office"; nia.xxxxxx@newindia.co.in (first 6 digits of the policy number)

Acknowledgement with a Registration Number; resolution within 14 days of receipt

Level 2

Regional Office / Corporate Business Office / Auto Hub Customer Care Officer (a senior officer designated as Grievance Redressal Officer)

"Know Your Customer Care Officers" lookup by city or first 2 digits of the policy number; bssxx@newindia.co.in

New India Assurance customer care — frequently asked questions

What is the New India Assurance customer care number?
1800-209-1415 (Toll Free customer helpline - policy and claim queries), 1800-209-1415 (Senior Citizen Helpline (published under "Senior Citizen Helpline - Call us : 1800-209-1415")), 022-22708348 (Dedicated senior-citizen grievance landline (per the Grievance Redressal Policy)), 022-2270 8212 (Grievance Redressal Officer (Head Office) landline). Check the hours listed above before you dial. These are taken from New India Assurance's own official contact page — verify anything you find elsewhere against that page or inside the app before calling.
Is there a 24x7 New India Assurance helpline?
Only the hours New India Assurance itself publishes are listed on this page. Where no hours appear beside a number, the company has not stated them — treat it as a business-hours line rather than assuming round-the-clock support. Fraud and card-block requests are the exception at banks, which run those lines 24x7.
Does New India Assurance have a WhatsApp number?
Yes — +91 98333 19191, published on its own website. "WhatsApp Us" link published on the Contact Us page (api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=919833319191). New India does not publish an itemised list of what the WhatsApp channel can do. Save it from the official page rather than from a forwarded message: impersonating support on WhatsApp is one of the most common fraud methods in Indian lending today.
How do I file a complaint against New India Assurance?
Start with customer care and get a complaint reference number — every later step depends on it. If it is unresolved, write to the Grievance Redressal Officer listed above with that reference, your account or policy number and dates. If the insurer does not attend to it within 15 days or the resolution does not satisfy you, complain to IRDAI through the Bima Bharosa portal, and after the insurer’s final reply you may approach the Insurance Ombudsman free of charge.
Who is the grievance redressal officer of New India Assurance?
Mr. K K Sunil Kumar, Deputy General Manager & Grievance Redressal Officer, reachable at gro@newindia.co.in or 022-2270 8212. Officer names change — the full current details are always on New India Assurance's own grievance page, linked at the foot of this page.
How do I know a New India Assurance customer care number is genuine?
Take it from only two places: the official website, and the support section inside the app. IRDAI requires the detail to be displayed there, and it is the one place a fraudster cannot edit. Never dial a number from a search snippet, a map listing, a social-media reply or a comment thread. And never accept inbound help — if someone calls claiming to be New India Assurance, hang up and dial the official number yourself. No company will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV or a screen-sharing app.
