Best Credit Cards in India 2026: One Pick for Each Need, in Rupees

There is no single best credit card in India; the best one pays the most on your biggest spend at a fee you can get waived. On our ₹50,000 sample month HSBC Live+ returned the most, ₹1,350, while CASHBACK SBI Card, BPCL SBI Card OCTANE, Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank and Scapia Federal each win for a different kind of spender.

No single best card, but a best card for each need

Ask ten card users for the best credit card in India and you will get ten answers, because a card is only as good as its fit to where the money go. So this page don't crown one winner. It names one pick per need, runs all nine through one ₹50,000 month and links our narrower lists for depth.

How we picked

From every card in our database open to new applicants (American Express has paused new applications while it updates its systems), we chose for each need the best value after caps, at no fee or at a fee a normal earner can get reversed.

Each pick is checked against the bank's MITC, terms and card pages as of 5 November 2026. No bank pays to appear on this page and we earn nothing from your application; the choices is ours alone.

Two rules behind every pick

  • Pay in full. Most of these cards charges 3.75% a month on a carried balance, and no reward here comes close to that.
  • Count the cap, not the rate. A 10% card capped at ₹400 a month pay less than a 5% card capped at ₹2,000 once you spend over ₹8,000 in the category.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • On our ₹50,000 month the nine picks returned between ₹180 and ₹1,350
  • Fee waivers from ₹2 lakh a year make most of the paid picks free in practice
  • IDFC FIRST cards and Scapia Federal charge zero forex markup
  • FD-backed IDFC FIRST WOW! gives people with no credit history a way in

Cons

  • Rent, wallet loads and most utility bills earn little or nothing on these cards
  • Income rules shut many out, such as over ₹1.5 lakh gross a month for HDFC Bank Regalia Gold
  • Banks cut benefits often, with changes to SBI Card, HSBC and HDFC Bank cards through 2026
  • Carrying a balance costs 3.75% a month on most of these cards

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best credit card in India in 2026?
No single card suits everyone. HSBC Live+ paid the most in our ₹50,000 example, ₹1,350 a month, but needs ₹6 lakh a year of income. CASHBACK SBI Card is the pick for online shopping, IDFC FIRST Millennia for no fee, and BPCL SBI Card OCTANE for fuel at BPCL pumps.
Which credit card is best on a salary of ₹25,000 a month?
IDFC FIRST Millennia is a good start: its ₹3 lakh a year income rule works out to ₹25,000 a month and it is lifetime free. SBI Card publishes no minimum income for CASHBACK SBI Card or BPCL SBI Card OCTANE. In every case approval is the bank's decision.
Which credit card has the lowest forex markup?
Among our picks, IDFC FIRST cards have charged zero forex markup since 9 September 2026, and Scapia Federal also charges zero. HSBC Live+ and Amazon Pay ICICI Bank charge 1.99%, HDFC Bank Regalia Gold and Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank 2%, and the SBI cards on this page 3.5%, all plus GST.
Can I use a credit card on UPI?
Only a RuPay credit card can be linked to UPI, and only for merchant payments, not transfers to people or cash. Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank on RuPay pays up to 1.5% on UPI with the Tata Neu UPI ID, capped at 500 NeuCoins a month. Using a card on UPI is free, though surcharges such as on fuel can apply.
Is it better to have one credit card or two?
Two often pay more. In our ₹50,000 example, HSBC Live+ for groceries and restaurants plus CASHBACK SBI Card for online shopping and travel came to ₹2,060 a month, against ₹1,350 on Live+ alone. The cost is two fees until each waiver is reached and two due dates to manage.
Which credit card is best with no credit history?
An FD-backed card is the usual route, such as IDFC FIRST WOW! It is issued against a fixed deposit of ₹20,000 or more, needs no income proof or credit history, sets the limit at 100% of the deposit and has no joining or annual fee. Paying it on time builds the history that unsecured cards look for.
