Prefr Review

CRED-group loan app offering ₹51,000–₹5 lakh personal loans through a rotating roster of partner NBFCs at 18–30% p.a.

FINTECH (LENDING PARTNER MODEL)No CIBIL NeededSelf-Employed OK
Reviewed by BankCreds App Review Team· App Review Analysts Updated 28 July 2026

Prefr is the odd one out among loan apps: its minimum ticket is ₹51,000. This is not a micro-loan app. It sits in the CRED group (Dreamplug Technologies, built on the CreditVidya acquisition), uses alternative-data underwriting with no hard CIBIL minimum, and claims disbursal in about 2 hours, with loans of ₹51,000 to ₹5 lakh at 18–30% p.a.

The catch is what you can't see. Prefr itself is not an RBI-registered lender; your contract is with whichever partner NBFC funds the loan, from a roster that keeps changing. Key charges aren't published on prefr.com, aggregators report penal interest of roughly 3% a month, and the app holds a middling 3.2★ on the Play Store despite the pedigree.

Our Ratings

Disbursal speed 4.0/5

Claimed ~2 hours after verification, and user reports of sub-10-minute disbursals are common in the praise.

Interest & cost 3.0/5

18–30% p.a. plus a 3–5% fee is expensive against banks, and the penalty schedule (penal ~3%/month, aggregator-reported) isn't on Prefr's own site.

App experience 3.0/5

The flow itself is quick and paperless, but a 3.2★ Play rating across ~53,600 reviews is middling for a CRED-group product.

Customer support 2.0/5

Named grievance officers per partner are a plus, but users report relentless calls, threatening recovery messages and slow fee-dispute resolution.

Safety & transparency 3.0/5

Reputable RBI-registered partner NBFCs, but Prefr itself isn't registered, the roster rotates, and key charges are unpublished on its own site.

Pros

  • Fast, fully paperless flow: claimed ~2-hour disbursal, with some users reporting money in under 10 minutes
  • CRED-group company (Dreamplug/ex-CreditVidya) with named grievance officers listed per lending partner
  • Alternative-data underwriting with no hard CIBIL minimum, so new-to-credit borrowers are considered
  • Minimal documents: PAN, Aadhaar and a selfie; bank statement only if requested
  • Proper mid-ticket range (₹51,000–₹5 lakh) for thin-file borrowers who need more than a micro-loan

Cons

  • Prefr itself is not RBI-registered; your contract is with a partner NBFC from a roster that keeps changing
  • Key charges aren't published on prefr.com: penal ~3%/month, ₹500 bounce and 4–5% foreclosure are all aggregator-reported
  • Expensive at the top of the band: up to 30% p.a. plus a 3–5% processing fee (min ₹1,500) + GST
  • Middling 3.2★ Play Store rating across ~53,600 reviews despite 1M+ installs
  • 2024–25 consumer-forum allegations of relentless telemarketing and threatening recovery messages

Our Verdict

Prefr makes sense for one specific borrower: someone who needs a genuinely mid-size loan, ₹51,000 to ₹5 lakh, has at least ₹18,000 a month coming in, and may have a thin or non-existent credit file that banks won't touch. The CRED-group backing, named grievance officers per lending partner, and fast paperless flow are real positives. If you need ₹10,000 or ₹25,000, this app is simply not for you. The real cost story is opaque, and that's our biggest gripe. The 18–30% band plus a 3–5% processing fee is already expensive against banks, but the charges that bite hardest, penal interest of about 3% a month, a ₹500 bounce fee, 4–5% foreclosure, come from aggregators, not from prefr.com itself. When a lender's own site won't publish its penalty schedule, you read the sanction letter twice. Be clear-eyed about conduct too. Consumer forums carry 2024–25 allegations of relentless telemarketing and threatening recovery messages, which are user reports, not adjudicated findings, but they fit the 3.2★ rating. Borrow here only if the ticket size fits, you've confirmed every charge in writing, and you know exactly which NBFC you're contracting with.

Who Prefr suits

Borrowers who genuinely need ₹51,000–₹5 lakh, not a small emergency top-up
New-to-credit or thin-file applicants earning ₹18,000+ a month whom banks decline
Salaried or self-employed borrowers aged 22–55 who want a fast, paperless process
People who will read the sanction letter and confirm the funding NBFC and full charges before signing

Look elsewhere if

You need less than ₹51,000; Prefr won't offer it, and micro-loan apps will
You have a clean 750+ CIBIL file; a bank or a cheaper marketplace like MoneyView will likely beat 18–30% plus a 3–5% fee
You want every charge published upfront by the lender itself before you apply
Aggressive recovery practices are a dealbreaker; the 2024–25 allegations here are worth weighing

Things to Watch

  • Prefr's own site doesn't publish its penalty schedule. Penal interest of ~3% a month (about 36% p.a.), a ₹500 bounce charge and 4–5% foreclosure fees come from aggregators, so demand the full charges list in writing before signing
  • Consumer forums carry 2024–25 harassment-style recovery allegations, including one March 2025 filing alleging calls every 30 minutes to someone who never applied. These are user allegations, not adjudicated findings, but factor them in
  • You're not borrowing from Prefr. The loan comes from whichever partner NBFC funds it, and the roster has changed repeatedly, so check your agreement to see who actually holds your loan and sets your charges

How to Apply for Prefr

  1. 1

    Register and check eligibility

Download Prefr from the Play Store or visit prefr.com, verify your mobile number with an OTP, and enter basic personal and income details. Underwriting uses alternative data, so there's no hard CIBIL cut-off.

  2. 2

    Complete KYC

Submit PAN and Aadhaar and take a selfie. A bank statement is asked for only if the funding NBFC requests it.

  3. 3

    Review your offer carefully

Check the sanctioned amount (minimum ₹51,000), rate, tenure and every charge. Note which partner NBFC is funding the loan; that's who your contract is with.

  4. 4

    Sign and receive funds

E-sign the agreement and set up auto-debit. Prefr claims disbursal in about 2 hours after verification; some users report under 10 minutes.

Documents Required

PAN card
Aadhaar (for KYC)
Selfie (in-app verification)
Bank statement, only if requested by the funding NBFC

What Real Users Say

Prefr sits around 3.2★ on the Play Store across ~53,600 reviews (July 2026), a middling score for an app with 1M+ installs and CRED-group backing. Some sites cite 4.2★, which appears to be older data.

Sentiment splits sharply: speed gets praised, conduct and charges draw the anger, and the 3.2★ rating reflects it.

What users love

Borrowers praise very fast disbursal (some under 10 minutes), the paperless flow, minimal documents, and approvals for thin-file and new-to-credit profiles.

Common complaints

Users report relentless telemarketing and collection calls (one March 2025 filing alleges calls every 30 minutes to a non-applicant), threatening late-night WhatsApp messages mentioning court cases, steep penal charges, and fees higher than expected.

How Prefr Compares

vs MoneyView — The closest marketplace rival, with a much lower entry ticket and a better-rated app; pick Prefr only if the ₹51,000+ range and new-to-credit underwriting fit you specifically.

vs Fibe — Fibe offers smaller minimums and cheaper starting rates for good-credit salaried profiles; Prefr is looser on credit history but pricier and more opaque on charges.

vs KreditBee — KreditBee is the better fit for first-time small-ticket borrowers; effective pricing is similar or higher, but you aren't forced to borrow at least ₹51,000.

How we tested

We reviewed Prefr's published terms across its website and Play Store listing, checked Dreamplug Technologies against RBI NBFC records (it isn't registered; its lending partners are), verified the current partner roster on prefr.com, and read recent borrower feedback on the Play Store and consumer forums. Several charges are aggregator-reported because Prefr doesn't publish them, and we flag those throughout. Conduct complaints are user-reported allegations, not adjudicated findings. Figures are accurate as of July 2026 and vary by funding NBFC, so always confirm your actual offer and a full charges breakdown before borrowing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Prefr RBI approved?
Not directly. Prefr (Dreamplug Technologies, a CRED-group company) is a loan service provider, not an RBI-registered lender. The actual loans come from RBI-registered partner NBFCs such as Aditya Birla Capital Finance, Poonawalla Fincorp, SMFG India Credit, Zype and MAS Financial Services. Your loan contract is with the partner NBFC, not with Prefr itself.
What is the minimum loan amount on Prefr?
₹51,000, which is unusually high for a loan app. Prefr doesn't do micro-loans: the range runs ₹51,000 to ₹5,00,000 over 6 to 48 months. If you need ₹5,000 or ₹20,000, look at small-ticket apps like KreditBee or mPokket instead; Prefr simply won't offer amounts that low.
What interest rate and fees does Prefr charge?
Interest runs 18–30% p.a. with a processing fee of 3–5% (minimum ₹1,500) plus GST. Aggregators also report penal interest of about 3% per month on overdue EMIs, a ₹500 bounce charge and 4–5% foreclosure fees, but Prefr doesn't publish these on its own site, so confirm every charge in your sanction letter.
Who actually lends the money on Prefr?
Whichever partner NBFC funds your loan at the time. The roster currently lists Aditya Birla Capital Finance, Poonawalla Fincorp, SMFG India Credit, Zype and MAS Financial Services, and it has changed over the years. Check your loan agreement to see which lender you're contracting with, because that lender sets your final rate and charges.
Can I get a Prefr loan with no credit history?
Possibly. Prefr uses alternative-data underwriting built on CreditVidya's technology and publishes no hard CIBIL minimum, so new-to-credit borrowers are considered. You still need to be 22–55 years old with income of at least ₹18,000 a month, and expect pricing toward the higher end of the 18–30% band if your file is thin.
